Chapter 25

Violet walked into the room with Colonel Phillips as the rest of the team was rounding up the last few Hydra men that had given themselves up in surrender.

"Agent Carter, come in…" Steve's voice came across the radio.

Peggy moved quickly shoving Morita out of the way, grabbing the radio. "Steve, is that you? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine."

"Where's Schmidt?"

Violet gripped onto the dog tags once again hoping that Steve had stopped Schmidt. Her heart rammed in her chest in worry.

"Schmidt's dead."

"What about the plane?" Peggy asked, grasping onto the radio even tighter than before. She was worried that something bad was going to happen.

"That's a little bit harder to explain."

"Give me your coordinates. I'll find a landing site."

"There isn't going to be a landing. Schmidt's locked the navigation system. And there's more than enough power to reach the East Coast."

Peggy waved Colonel Phillips down looking rather grave at the whole thing.

Violet took a sharp breath knowing that this wasn't a good thing. She knew exactly what he was going to do. It was something that she worried about for quite some time. She knew that right then and there he needed to do something that wasn't going to be very good to do. He was going to have to bring the plane down in his own way. She felt her heart crumble a little knowing that Peggy was now going to have to go through the same heartache that she was going through with losing Bucky.

"I'll get Howard on the line. He'll know what to do."

"I'm sitting on a hundred tons of explosives. Hotwiring this thing's not an option. I've got to put her in the water."

Peggy spread her fingers on the console, her knuckles turning white from the force.

Violet looked away as she felt tears coming to her eyes.

"But you said you couldn't steer it."

"I can't. But I think I can crash it."

"Steve, don't do this. We've got time. We can figure this out."

"I already did. Right now, I'm in the middle of nowhere. If I wait any longer, a lot of people are going to get hurt. Peggy, this is my choice."

Violet moved away sniffling softly knowing that this was the only choice. This was not the plan. The plan was to stop Scmidt, but it didn't work.

"We'll send out rescue ships. We'll find you."

"I don't think there's going to be much left to find. Peggy?"

Peggy sniffled softly trying to get control of her emotions. "I'm here."

"I'm going to need a raincheck on that dance."

Peggy held her tears back. "All right. A week Saturday. The Stork Club."

"Okay. You got it."

"8:00 on the dot. If you're three minutes late I'm leaving, do you understand?"

"I still don't know how to dance."

Peggy closed her eyes as a few tears slid down her cheeks. "I'll show you. I'll show you everything. Just be there."

"Maybe the band could play something slow, I'd hate to step on your…"

There was a hiss as the radio went silent.

Colonel Phillips put his hand on Peggy's shoulder as she looked out into the clear blue sky.

Violet took a soft breath as she moved next to them. She looked out to the sky. "I'll get Howard on the line." Violet said softly, squeezing her hands tightly as she stood there. "He'll try his best to help I'm sure. We can't have our first Super Soldier forgotten."

Peggy looked at Violet with tear filled eyes. "When will we talk about why you're covered in blood?"

"I promise we'll talk about it soon." She said softly knowing that it wasn't going to be easy for her to talk about what she was. She didn't want Peggy to worry at that moment since Steve was lost.
