Chapter 27

Violet brought over the last few files to Phillips. "Here are the last Howling Commando files including mine." She said putting it before him. She knew that it was going to be hard on them to destroy the files, but it needed to be done. It was so the people could be protected from anything and everything that the outside world could do to those who were part of the Howling Commandos.

"Thank you Agent Howlett." Phillips said as he looked up at Violet.

Violet nodded her head moving back as Peggy came into the room.

Phillips signed the official report on the Classified Captain America. He picked up the stamp stamping it with Inactive. He slid it into a red box that was marked to be destroyed.

Violet took a breath and grabbed the file and turned her attention to Peggy. She handed the file to Peggy. "No one said we have to forget the man, Agent." She said softly.

Peggy looked at Violet with tear filled eyes. "Thank you." She said softly.

Violet nodded her head slowly. "Any time Peggy." She said softly as she turned her attention to Colonel Phillips as he stamped Classified Howling Commando Violet Howlett to inactive. He slid it into the destroy box. Violet took a breath knowing that this was probably a good thing that he file would be destroyed.

"You seem happy to see your file destroyed."

Violet nodded her head. "It is where it is meant to be. It is meant to be destroyed. No one should know of this… not of what I can do. It's too dangerous for it to ever become public knowledge." She said softly as he put the last few files into the destroy file box.

"You don't want anyone to know your true self."

"It's better this way." She said as she picked up the box. "Trust me no one would want to know about me. They'd want to experiment on me." She shook her head softly as she turned on her heels. She saw the file of Steve Rogers on the table where Peggy once was. She took a sharp breath and walked over and put the box down onto the table and carefully opened the file up to see the photo of Steve pre-serum missing. She took a breath knowing that Peggy took it and probably was keeping it as a keepsake.

She didn't blame Peggy for wanting to take the photo to keep his memory alive and well. She knew that Peggy held onto the hope that Steve would be found, but Violet wasn't as sure that they would find him. She put the file into the destroyed box and took a soft breath. She picked the box up once again.

"Good luck in your future endeavors Agent."

Violet turned her head and looked at Phillips. "You too, sir." She said softly before turning again to leave. She took a breath as she headed towards the door. She knew that this was the last time that she was probably going to be seeing anyone. She made it to the door and opened the door. She took a breath and walked out of the room. Her low heels clicked on the floor as she walked. She was kind of glad that the war was now over and now she would be able to go home and live for a bit. She could only hope that Jimmy would be returning home safe and sound.

She looked up seeing Peggy in the hallway. "Agent Carter." She said softly.

"We need to talk." Peggy said softly. "About what you promised to tell me…"

"Tomorrow." Violet said softly. "Can you give me till tomorrow? I promise I'll tell you everything."

Peggy swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded her head slowly. "Alright."

Violet nodded her head slowly. "I promise that I'll tell you everything that you need to know."

"I'll see you tomorrow then."

Violet nodded her head once again before slowly walking away from Peggy. She took a breath in hopes that she didn't have to worry about telling Peggy sooner about how she was. She could only hope that Peggy wouldn't judge who she was. She didn't want to be judged for being a monster that she saw herself as. She took a breath as she opened a door that was to destroy the files. She put the box down letting out a breath shaking her head lightly as she turned to leave.

She knew that she could say goodbye to this life for the most part. She could only hope that her life would go back to somewhat being normal and being out of the eye of the public. She could only hope that Jimmy would be home so the two of them could spend time together out of the eyes of the world going on around them.
