Topic: New Cape on the scene?
In: Boards - Places - America - Brockton Bay
Robby (Original Poster)
Posted on 16 October 2010:
So, apparently there is a new Cape running around Brockton Bay.
Eye witnesses spotted the Cape in various situations yesterday, mostly jumping from the roofs but the biggest drop in the pond was when they fought off five E88 thugs single handedly.
Discuss.

Well if they are fighting against the gangs here then all the more power to them.
We need more Capes that fight for the little guy.

Apparently this new Cape was seen using knives of some kind.
According to reports he was able to create them from nothing, they just appeared in his open palm when he wanted.
It's kinda scary in my opinion that we are looking up to someone who is using such deadly implements to protect us all.

If you think that our protectors should be unarmed when they take the fight to the likes of Hookwolf or Lung then we all may as well let them do as they like without resistance.
It's guys like this new Cape who use what they have at their disposal to protect us from the likes of those mentioned before.
And there was no mention of any lethal force used in any reports, so your argument is null.

I dunno about you guys but this feels fishy, a new Cape shows up and on his first day takes down five E88 gangsters?
What if he is really a new member of the E88 sent out to deal with the new recruits?
I mean he was seen wearing colours similar to their Capes for crying out loud!

Void if you really believe that a Cape who wears colours that may or may not be used by a gang that they are then part of said gang, there is something wrong with your thought processes or are just a shit stirrer.
As the Cape in question was me, I will come forward and say the E88, ABB and Merchants can go screw themselves.
For verification that I am the Cape in question I have included the recording of my patrol [HERE], faces of civilians are blurred for privacy reasons of course.
Jordan sighed as he peeled himself away from the screen that displayed his reply. At first whenever he read anything from this XxVoid_CowboyxX character was funny for the shit he would start but after a while it just got annoying and somewhat inane with the shit they pull from their ass.
'Taylor would probably smack me upside the head for how I am handling things.' He thought in amusement.
After a moment to think about his newfound ability to feel feelings after his patrol yesterday, he took the time to examine what he felt for each person in his life. For his mother, he loved her dearly, for she was the type to give you either enough rope to pull yourself up or to hang yourself with, yet if you asked she would help you if needed.
His feelings for his father bordered on absolute hatred for his behaviour. Absent from birth, only ever around to pay money out of some twisted sense of responsibility yet fucking a new hooker every week. It's honestly surprising that his mother hadn't gotten a restraining order put on him yet.
Emma and her family had earned his scorn the moment she decided to drop Taylor and bully her. But looking at it closer, she only ever started after she met her new 'best friend' Sophia Hess, and if looked at with a different lens could be seen as her being Mastered by the new girl and forced to turn on Taylor.
Sophia Hess was also another person who had earned his hatred. From the moment she showed up at Winslow, she spouted her Social Darwinism bullshit of her being a 'Predator surrounded by Prey'. Jordan decided from the moment she opened her mouth that she wasn't worth his time and spent most of his effort keeping Taylor out of her gaze. Though his plan had failed since he was moved to separate classes and that left Taylor wide open to her attacks.
The father of the victim, one Danny Hebert, was arguably just as bad as the rest. Ever since Aunt Anne died he shut down, moving as if on auto-pilot and barely spared any time for Taylor in his grieving. Whenever it was brought up he would break down into tears and say that he would try to be better but it was sorely obvious that he couldn't keep his word.
And Taylor Hebert herself, the person who has been with him since birth was his greatest confidant. She was beautiful in his eyes, her green eyes that shone with intelligence, her long dark slightly curly hair that he could waste away his time running his fingers through, her wide expressive mouth that gave the most beautiful of smiles. It also didn't hurt that she was starting to fill out after eating a proper diet at his house, her body was starting to build a small amount of muscle that was most prominently seen in her long legs.
It was safe to say that Jordan was smitten with the girl, and yet he didn't know how to navigate this new and dangerous path. Oh if only there was a guide to how to deal with this he would kiss the author.
'Maybe I could ask mom? No… she would probably squeal and rush me around trying to make the "perfect date" for me to take Taylor on, probably dinner at some fancy restaurant or something like that.' Jordan shook his head wryly at his mother.
"Are you awake yet Jordan?!" His mothers voice pierced his thoughts and the air like an arrow.
"Yeah what's up?!" He shouted back.
"Come here! I need to speak to you!" She retorted loudly.
'Oh shit… that doesn't sound good.' Jordan cringed momentarily before getting up.
Jordan made his way out of his room and towards the living room where he heard his mothers shout. Once there he was met with the stern visage of his mother looking at him while Taylor sat next to her, looking apologetic and sheepish.
"Yes mom?" Jordan asked.
"Sit." She said sternly.
Jordan did as asked of him and sat on the couch in front of his mother. They sat in unnerving silence while the mother stared at the son. After a minute and some nervous shuffling from the son, the mother decided to speak up.
"What is this I hear about you going out yesterday and fighting thugs?"
Jordan gulped hearing his mothers tone, "I did exactly that mom. I took the proper precautions if that is what you are asking."
His mother raised a brow at him, "And just what are these precautions Jordan?"
"Learning the full scope of my abilities, making sure to watch the scene to gather a battle plan that would put civilians in the least amount of danger and taking down each thug as quickly as possible to prevent any possible deviations." Jordan answered dutifully.
Jackie stared at her son for a moment before speaking,"And what about that one woman that was stabbed yesterday?"
Jordan winced, remembering his almost failure of a first day and spoke up again, "I will admit that I didn't expect the last guy to attack a civilian when he was outmatched, but I fixed it by transferring the injury to myself, leaving the woman perfectly healthy after the paramedics checked her out."
Her eyes widened when she caught the end of his words, "What about you?! You said you took the wound but you look fine."
"That's because as a part of my powers, I have the ability to heal from anything except for decapitation theoretically, my body will stitch itself back together with thousands of miniature swords." Jordan answered, trying to keep his mother calm.
"Look, there isn't even a scar here." He said as he lifted his shirt, revealing his unscarred toned stomach.
Taylor flushed at seeing his stomach and his mother came closer. She looked at it and then raised a hand and poked the area lightly, not seeing any other reaction out of her son she accepted it and backed away.
"Alright, I'll let you off for now young man, but if I find that you are taking unnecessary risks I'll do something you will regret." His mother said with an evil grin.
Jordan thought of all the possible things she could do to him, ranging from physical punishments to psychological and it sent a cold shiver down his spine.
"How did you find out about me going out?" Jordan asked.
"Well Taylor here, bless her heart, told me about your comment on PHO and sent me the link." Jackie answered.
Jordan shot Taylor with a look of betrayal that everyone knew was fake. She tried to look apologetic but when she saw that his lips were twitching, trying to hold back a smile, she let a smile show on her face.
The two were then let off the hook by his mother and left the house for the day, ready to go for a walk and spend time with each other.

Hephaestus found himself jumping from one roof to another in the dead of night. He had managed to stay as an independent for almost full month at this point, and he has only had one run in with the PRT in the form of Miss Militia and even though she tried to convince him to join the Protectorate, proving that they thought he was older than he was, she didn't push him or aim a firearm at him when he declined, only asked him to reconsider.
He has also gained a certain following on PHO of people congratulating him on each of his posts that had his patrol videos uploaded. He didn't know that having people appreciate him was such a powerful feeling and felt that it was dangerous to equate his mental state to those of unknown civilians.
"Reports of a robbery in downtown about 3 minutes from your location, head South." Taylors voice interrupted his thoughts over the radio.
"Got it, moving south." He responded and turned around.
With his greater reserves that had been expanding ever since his first patrol he projected a simple knife and reinforced his arm. Getting into a standard pitchers stance he launched the knife in an upward arc, ready to switch places once it was closer to the ground.
'I should probably be concerned with the rate which my reserves are growing but I will just accept it for what it is. I'm pretty sure I might soon be able to Trace a Noble Phantasm someday.'
And his observations were correct, if his first time out could be numbered then it would be that he had 100 units of energy to use everything he had, Tracing a regular sword took five units and keeping them around took one unit for every hour it was around. Reinforcement needed two units a minute to keep up. But now that his reserves have grown it's more like he has 450 units of energy and a Noble Phantasm would take somewhere between 500 and 2000 according to his estimations.
'I cannot wait to be able to use Noble Phantasms like Caladbolg II or even Hrunting. Though those two will decimate anything I aim for so I guess I shouldn't try using those unless I absolutely have to.'
He was broken from his thoughts when he heard the screams below him. Snapping his head in the direction he saw what looked like something closer to a gang skirmish than a robbery.
"T, are you sure it was a robbery that was reported?" He asked loud enough for her to pick up but not anyone else.
"Thats what PHO says it is." Taylor responded, sounding a little panicked.
"Then either it devolved into a gang skirmish or it was a trap." Hephaestus concluded.
"'I'm sorry…! If I knew I wouldn't have sent you…!" Taylor said, starting to panic a little.
"It's fine, you couldn't have known. Besides these aren't enough thugs to take me down." Hephaestus responded, trying to calm his only friend down.
With Taylor slowly calming down, he turned his attention to the skirmish below him.
'Ten thugs on either side armed with various weapons. Three ABB are armed with standard issue revolvers while the rest are armed with bats, knives or crowbars. About six E88 have standard Glocks while the rest are armed with knives of varying lengths.' He observed.
'The ideal plan would be to take down the E88 shooters first, they have superior firepower when it comes to ammo and fire rate so taking them down would be the primary objective. After that would be going for those ABB thugs who have revolvers, although they are slower firing, they pack quite a punch and I'm not entirely sure if what I'm wearing can withstand sustained fire from them.'
'After taking the ones with guns down I will need to target the ones with knives, they could do the most harm when the guns are taken away. After that it's a free game. Maybe I can try restraining them with Black Keys? Would that actually work though? No I don't think so, they were mainly used to temporarily restrain spirits and such for a moment before exorcism.'
Hephaestus instead decided to try a different course of action, and try a different experiment.
'I need something to either restrain the shooters or take out their guns.' He thought to himself.
The gears of Unlimited Blade Works began to turn as the criteria was input into the search.

[Throwing Picks]
'That's the best you can come up with?!' Hephaestus thought before stopping to think again.
'Wait, if I can recreate sword barrel I could use the picks to launch their ways through the guns, disabling them if aimed right.'
From the rooftop he was standing on he raised his right hand and spoke.
"I am the bone of my sword, Sword Barrel."
With the first line of his discovered aria spoken to reinforce his will upon the world, he began to trace a handful of two inch picks that floated next to him.
"Single Fire." His hand fell and the picks flew for their targets.
Each pick flew towards their designated guns, though some were bound to miss due to their targets moving and swaying a lot but that was to be expected, as Hephaestus jumped into the fray shortly after. His first target was one E88 member who thought he could do him harm with a knife.
Weaving out of the way Hephaestus smacked the knife away before kneeing the guy in the stomach and punching him in the face hard, dropping him to the floor. The thugs knew that Hephaestus was among them the moment they saw that some of their guns had been destroyed by something they couldn't see, their thoughts were only cemented when the first guy went down.
"Oh shit he's here!" One of them shouted.
Not bothering to answer their voices, he went to work immediately. The closest thug caught the flat of a newly projected broadsword to the face. Seeing that he brought out something other than his regularly seen throwing knives got some of them to pause. During their moment of pause Hephaestus got into a signature Obi-Wan stance, legs spread, left arm forward with his right pulled back, sword level with his head. Twitching his fingers in a 'come here' motion snapped them out of their stun.
The next thug to run at him was a thug from the ABB wielding a wooden baseball just shook his head before shifting stances slightly. The thug with the bat swung at him and Hephaestus countered with his own swing.
The sword was sharp enough and swung at the correct angle, resulting in the bat being cut in half, and with the thug being right behind it, the sword was twisted in his grip. Instead of cutting through the thug like what normally would have happened if it were anyone else, Hephaestus reacted quick enough and turned the flat of the blade onto the target instead of the sharp side.
The thug ended up getting hit in the side of the head and fell to the ground out cold immediately. As he was about to shift his focus onto whoever was closest, he heard a gunshot and felt the impact hit the side of his chest, staggering him for a moment.
The thugs stupidly thought that they had won, thinking him to be in the middle of stumbling to his death momentarily, but no, he was just trying to regain his breath as the round had stolen it.
"Nice try." Was the only warning the E88 member who shot him got.
Because in the next second he caught the pommel of a dagger to his forehead, him right away. The others stepped back for a moment before rushing him all together.
'Good, come to me… I can use their lack of coordination to redirect strikes into each other.' He thought with a grin, unseen to his foes.
When the group descended on him, he used the chaos and confusion of the mass of bodies and loyalties to weave his way through and get them to start targeting each other again. In the foray of limbs, Hephaestus was thriving, each punch, kick or stab and swing that was directed at him was either dodged or redirected towards another thug.
"You guys are making this too easy for me." He taunted.
The thugs redoubled their efforts to attack him and became more vicious.
14th November 2010
Today was one of Jordan's days off from going out as a cape and he was spending it getting ready for a day out with Taylor. After analysing his feelings for as long as he had, he came to the conclusion that it's better to ask her out than to forever live in the limbo of not knowing the possibility.
Today he decided to try and dress in something nice, going with a pair of jeans and a white button up t-shirt with white sneakers. He had asked her to hang out yesterday and told her to dress in something nice but didn't tell her what was happening, he was instead planning to do so at the end of the day. His mother had handed him some money to help him pay for the day, though she was squealing when he told her his plans, it was the most embarrassing thing for him to witness.
Right now he was walking down the road towards the Hebert residence, taking in the home that his best friend and crush lived in. Arriving at the home he took care to avoid the step that was rusted through, Structural Analysis helping to confirm whether it was fixed or not. He then knocked on the door and waited.
Soon enough the door was opened, revealing Taylor.
She was dressed in a pair of jeans too, and wearing a plain black shirt and jacket over the top with black sneakers on her feet. Jordan had his breath stolen by her looks, the way her green eyes lit up when she saw him, to the way her hair swayed slightly in the breeze pushing past him.
"Hello Jordan." Taylor spoke, sounding bashful.
"...Hi Taylor." Jordan swallowed.
"Are you ready for the day?"
"Yes, but you still haven't told me what we're doing." Taylor stated as she closed the door behind her.
"Well you'll see." He responded before steppin next to her as they both began walking.
The pair began to walk down the street in a comfortable silence before arriving at the bus stop. When it arrived they both got on and sat next to each other while Jordan thought on his plans.
'Today should be a fun one. I've planned for us to go to the arcade and then have lunch at the mall before watching a movie to end the day.'
"You know, you still haven't told me what we are doing or where we are going." Taylor's voice said from his right.
"You are right in that regard Taylor. I have planned out a fun day for us, starting with going to the arcade." Jordan answered with a smile.
The smile was also reciprocated to a lesser extent on Taylor's face, yet it was no less genuine. He almost found himself leaning into her face but managed to stop his impulse, not wanting to push too far in case she were to get mad with him.
After a short bus ride they found themselves near the arcade. Jordan pulled Taylor alongside him with a wide grin on his face and paid for some tokens to use.
The pair ended up playing a bunch of arcade games together, showing competitive spirit to each other that drove the other to try their hardest.
"Come on Taylor! Eat my dust!" Jordan shouted as he turned the steering wheel in a driving game he was competing in.
"How about you!" Taylor retorted, overtaking Jordan and brake checking him.
Jordan had spun out trying to get around Taylor and slammed his hand on the wheel. After the pair had finished the racing game, which Taylor did not win no matter how much she tells you otherwise shut up, they moved onto other games.
After two hours of playing they got hungry and decided to go to the food court in the mall. They decided to just get a small meal so they didn't ruin their diets they worked on together, settling on a small burger and fries.
While they ate, Jordan caught a scent that always put him on edge, mainly because it was associated with the one person who made him burn inside. A smell of smoke that always felt like it was just out of reach of his nostrils was what alerted him to her presence. Jordan subtly looked around for any signs of her, catching her watching them from a distance with a disgusting scowl on her face.
He narrowed his gaze at her subtly and watched as her scowl deepened. He turned away from her and brought his attention back to Taylor and listened as she talked about how much fun she had today.
"Who said today was over?" Jordan asked with a sly grin.
"What else do you have planned?" She then asked.
"We are going to the theatre to watch a movie." He answered with a smile.
"What movie are we going to watch?" She asked with a big smile.
"We will see when we get there. I didn't want to pick on only for you to not like it." Jordan said, being considerate of her feelings on the matter.
"That's sweet, I doubt I'd wanna be stuck watching some kind of corny horror movie or something." Taylor responded.
The pair soon got up and made their way towards the theatre. The faint smell of smoke followed the two, alerting Jordan to the fact that Sophia was stalking them. Jordan would normally tell Taylor that they were being followed but he didn't want to ruin the day by choosing to tell Taylor and letting her paranoia run wild and ruin it.
Once they arrived Jordan let Taylor pick the movie, and surprisingly she picked a movie that he would be interested in watching. It was an action movie, one that reminded him of Azur Lane but with were World War Two era tanks too, but instead of it being in an anime like style, it's more like a gritty action movie in the same vein as Fury.
"That was a good movie you picked Taylor." Jordan said after they stepped out of the theatre.
"Thanks! I honestly wasn't sure what to pick so I went for the most interesting one and this was it." Taylor explained.
"Well I'd say you picked correctly!" Jordan said with a laugh.
The pair began to walk to Taylors home to end their day. At some point they drifted closer towards each other and their hands touched, causing Taylor to jolt away in shock. Jordan just turned and smiled at her, as she calmed down she smiled too.
"Do I get to know why you took me out today?" Taylor asked when they were near her home.
"Well I don't know how to say this correctly so could you wait until I finish?" Jordan asked, feeling awkward at the moment.
"Sure, say what you need to say." Taylor said, letting him get his words together.
Jordan took a moment to close his eyes and compose what he wanted to say, opening his eyes he looked into hers and spoke, "Taylor ever since we were children we have been by each other's side, you know that I'm not the best at expressing myself, something like a perpetual apathy until recently. After I finished my first patrol I found myself feeling things that I hadn't felt before, so I took the time to analyse what I felt for each person around me."
Taylor listened to what he was saying and started getting the picture if her slowly reddening face was any indication.
"The reason why I am taking so long in examining my feelings is because I don't want to jump into anything prematurely, and so today I felt as though I did enough thinking and decided to go for it. So, Taylor Anne Hebert, will you be my girlfriend?" Jordan asked, still feeling slightly awkward.
Tears started to pool in the corners of Taylor's eyes as she rapidly began to nod her head.
"Yes! It took you long enough, you idiot." Taylors words choked for a moment.
Jordan practically deflated and surged forward towards her wrapping his arms around her. Taylor also wrapped her arms around him and leaned her head on his shoulder, feeling happier than ever.
Every other time they had hugged it felt normal and platonic, but now that they were together it felt different. It felt better for the lack of a better word, Jordan was happy and content with this feeling and he could tell Taylor was too, judging by how she was holding him tightly.
They separated after a minute of holding each other and Taylor still looked like she had ascended to the moon while Jordan and the biggest smile on his face. He took her hand and began walking her back to her home, her grip squeezing his lightly.
When they arrived at her door he took the moment to hug her again and plant a kiss on her forehead and give her one last hug. She was beaming at the attention and reciprocated, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"Good night Taylor, I'll see you at school." Jordan asi, breaking the hug and silence.
"Yeah, good night Jordan." Taylor smiles before stepping into the house.
After their last goodbyes were said Jordan made his way away from the house. As he was walking he noticed the smell of smoke that was just barely entering his olfactory range, realising that Sophia was following him he decided to take a detour through some alleys and hope she would confront him, and if not, well he always had that knife hanging from a string in his room that he could swap with.
'Honestly, who knew there was a version of Shirou where he managed to brute force his way into learning Displacement Magecraft is pretty impressive. The ability to substitute any one thing with another, essentially allowing for teleportation if the conditions are met.' Jordan thought with wonder.
Jordan noted that Sophia's scent wasn't getting any closer so he decided to turn a corner quickly to break any potential line of sight and then used said Displacement Magecraft, or more commonly known as Flash Air, to swap places with the knife and quickly disperse it when he go thome, leaving no evidence behind.
"Haa… I wish you would have just confronted me instead of stalking me like a creep Sophia." He sighed to himself as he changed clothes.
He took a shower and let the good feelings from the day wash over him like the warm water. Once he was done in the shower he got dressed and went to bed, and for the first time his dreams were no longer of fire and steel, instead they were of him and Taylor.
