Something is burning.
"Burn the witch!"
"Set that wretch ablaze!"
"Send her to the pits of hell!"
A series of voices yell out for retribution, their words laced with so much malice; so much hatred.
But why?
In front of the crowd there was a large wooden log being set ablaze with a faint human-shaped silhouette inside.
Someone is being set on fire!
I can hear the high-pitched screams coming from there. They were killing a girl. She screams in writhing agony as her flesh is burning away. She begs for someone, anyone to save her.
I try to move but something grabs me from behind and twists me around to face them. What stands in front of me can only be described as a half-burned corpse. Its hair completely gone, its face scorched beyond recognition and a body crackling with heat that it might collapse at any moment and turn into ashes.
The zombie grabs my face and makes me stare at the remains of its eye sockets, leaking blood like it was crying.
"̵̡͕͗͜T̶̢͖̱̝̾̔̿̉H̴̰̗̞̼̦͋̓̓Ė̷̝̪̘̥Y̸̮͙͈͂͗̀̉͘ ̶̻̼̱̪̏̄W̴̦̥͕͙̋̄̑̒̕ͅȊ̷̡̯̺̟̓̏̈́̚L̵͚͐͜L̷͓̲̮͛́͊͐̕ ̸̧̤̖̫̪̎̀B̸̤̟̽͂̚U̷̡͊͆̔Ř̷͖̿N̶͒͆͛͘͜"̷̡͔̙̣̹̋̀
The words were hoarse, her voice filled with venom and malice.
"̴̛̰̎̈́̈́̈́I̸̡̺̮̿́ ̶̪̺͌͗́̂͠W̷̧̆͆̽̒̾Ỉ̴̭L̵͉̞̼̘̠̄Ļ̵͕̳̖́ ̷͙̙̗̟͕͌̀S̶̬̘̞̩̓̍͐̕͝Ẻ̶͖̩̩̖̆̒E̸͉̦̦͂ ̶͉̻̹̻̔̈́͜T̶̨̢̛͓̫̐̔͠Ḧ̴̟́̆͋̑͌I̵̧̨̻͚̓͌S̸̡̭̱̻̋͜ ̴̞͍̟͊̄͝͝Ẇ̸͔̩̥̋O̶̳̩͎͌̄̉Ŗ̶̞͓̭̐̉̀͌Ḻ̷̗̰̈̔̍̒D̶͉͕̮͋̈́̍̉ ̵̛͉̼͍̍͗̓B̵̘̈́͆̂͝U̸̟̭̪̮͆ͅR̶̪̥̮͚̈́N̵̞̗͔͉̖̔͘ ̶̛̪̦͇̱͐͛̆̒F̷͇̜͖͚̈́͜Ò̸̪̝R̶͕͗̏̿̕͠ ̷̢̧͉̮͙̑̉̔͝W̴̱̻̘͇̲̅H̷̫̬̟̘̘̊͗̓̎͘Ȃ̵͎͜T̸̺̓̅͐̈́ ̴͔͍͌͂͐͌T̸̺͔͖̰̀̓͆̈̕Ḩ̷̧̪̳̲̂̀̏E̸̳̲̊̈́̓̏͝Ỳ̸̱͔̝̈ ̸̢̟̻͍̊̉D̴̡̜̩̦͛̍͒̃I̴͖̪̅̀D̷̻̦̾͂̓̓ ̶̪̞̬̐̀͘͠ͅT̷͓͐̆Ȏ̶͈̗̊͘͝ ̸̝̊M̶̛͉̗̏̋̃E̶̮͇̼͂̃̽!̵̲́̔́̈́̚ͅͅ"̵̨̨̯̟̺̿͝
My eyes snap open and quickly rise from my bed. Beads of sweat roll off my forehead. All that rage, all of that despair. What the hell happened to make someone like that?
My thoughts are then interrupted by the sudden sound of the door opening and Mashu walks in. "Mashu?"
Mashu smiles. "Frank-sa-" She stops mid sentence as she notices my exposed chest and stares at my six-pack and blushes. "W-W-Why aren't you wearing a shirt!?"
I look down at my chest and shrug. "I like to sleep without a shirt."
"E-Everyone's waiting in the Command Room!" With her piece said, the Demi-Servant dashes out of my room.
I pull off my covers and stand up, only for a bout of dizziness to seize me as I lose balance and fall on the cold floor.
I grab onto a nearby table and pull myself up. "What the hell was that!?" It felt as if a part of me suddenly vanished.
[That's not possible]
"What's wrong?" I asked, concerned by my partner's unusual tone.
[Alaya… has gone silent]
Later
I enter the Command Room where CHALDEAS is being repaired. The room itself seems to be mostly restored and functional. These guys are good, I'll give them that. In front of the sphere apparatus is Mashu, Fou and Ritsuka along with Dr. Romani.
"Oh you're here, excellent." Romani said with a smile. "I'd like to first thank you for your efforts in stopping Singularity F as well as saving director Animusphere life." He suddenly bows. "Thank you so much!"
"Thank you!" Mashu also bows.
"Fou, Fou!"
I shake my head. "Anyone would have done the same in my place."
Romani straightens himself up. "There is no need to be humble! You are the main reason for Ritsuka-chan's survival!"
I let out a hum in agreement.
Ritsuka giggles quietly. "Looks like someone isn't used to praise."
"Right, as for you girls." Romani turns to the duo. "I want to congratulate you all on surviving and completing your mission. While the situation was forced upon you, you both bravely faced the challenges and overcame them. Well done."
The two girls smile at the praise and Fou nozzles both of them.
I look around and notice there is someone missing. "Where's Olga?"
"She's still resting in the infirmary." Romani replies. "While she is fine physically, I fear for the mental toll the whole mission caused. She might be unstable."
"Would you like to repeat that Romani!?"
All eyes turn to the exit of the room where Director Olga Marie is standing looking as healthy as she can be.
"C-Chief!?" Romani jumps, not expecting her to be walking about.
"If you honestly thought I was going to stay in bed while in the middle of this crisis, then you really are the stupidest man I've ever had the displeasure of working with." With a click of her heels, Olga Marie walks forward. "I am Olga Marie Animusphere. Director of the Chaldea Security Organization and the head of the Animusphere family." She looks at us all with fire in her eyes. "I will not stay in bed while humanity's at its ropes! It will not only tarnish my pride as a Magus but as a human being too!"
I can't help but smile at this. Most humans would give up at this point but despite her shortcomings, Olga is determined to defend humanity till her last breath. It is a very inspiring trait to have. I only wished more humans had something like this.
"Now Romani, I want a full report of our current situation and don't you dare skip any details." Olga Marie demands.
"O-Of course!" The doctor stutters before clearing his throat. "We have tried to contact the Mage's Association and inform them of our current situation but we have received no responses."
"Nothing?" Olga Marie asked.
Romani shakes his head. "Not even a bleep. There has been no response from the outside world at all. The staff who left Chaldea have also vanished without a trace." He gives a solemn look. "I fear that humanity no longer exists."
Ritsuka is shocked at the news. "W-What are you talking about doctor!? Humanity can't be destroyed! It's not possible! We're right here!"
"I understand how you feel about this, but that's just what happened." Romani tells her. "Chaldea's mission is to preserve the reign of the Human Order, above all else. We have been able to do this by using SHEBA to observe the future of humanity. However, for some unknown reason we were unable to observe the year 2016 and beyond. At first, we thought it had simply disappeared, but now we understand that the future has been destroyed, completely erased from the planet's records." He explains. "Chaldea seems to exist outside this new timeline, perhaps it is frozen in the moment before the collapse. Think of it like a colony floating in space. The outside world is dead until we do something about it."
"Still, humanity's existence is heavily tied to the will of the planet itself, much like any other creature. To erase their existence in such a way would require unimaginable power." Olga Marie said.
"That's the other thing, we tried scanning the Earth's past with the repaired SHEBA. While the Fuyuki Singularity was destroyed, it did not change the future. We hypothesized that this is due to another cause. The result? " We look up at CHALDEAS as it glows brightly showing an odd layout of the planet. "A distorted world map. A newly discovered dimensional disturbance against which Fuyuki pales in comparison. They say changing the past changes the future, but you can't overthrow the future by slightly altering the past. History has the power to heal itself. But this? These Singularities have appeared in key parts of human history. 'What if the war never ended?' What if the nation never truly became independent?' What if this voyage was never successful?' These are the ultimate decision points to determine the current state of humanity. To destroy them would cause the timeline to collapse in on itself. Their formation led to our present today with humanity extinct."
[So that's why our connection to Alaya has been cut off. Since Alaya is the collective unconsciousness of mankind, it would naturally no longer be able to continue functioning if humanity longer existed. And since there is no future beyond this point, Akasha has entered into a state of dormancy due to no new history being born]
I turn to Romani. "But that's where we come in, right."
Romani smiles. "That's right, Frank! We are the exception to the rule. All we need to do is Rayshift into these seven singularities and get history back on track. It's the only way to save humanity. But therein lies the problem…" He looks dispirited. "All of the other Master candidates are frozen, our resources are limited and Mashu is the only Servant we have."
"Hey, hey, hey! Have you forgotten that I'm a potential Master as well!?" Olga Marie yelled.
"Are you?" I asked rhetorically.
"Shut up, you dolt!" Olga Marie hissed.
Romani turns to Ritsuka. "I know this is overwhelming and that you've been forced into this situation, but I'll still say it. Master Candidate #48: Ritsuka Fujimaru. If you wish to save humanity… if you wish to have a future beyond 2016. Then you must go and face these singularities in human history."
Ritsuka was stunned by this. She didn't know what to do. She was just a small-town girl looking for a job that pays well, she didn't think she would wrap up in all of this!
"I…" Ritsuka tries to say something until a hand grabs her shoulder.
"Whatever you decide, Gudako, I will stand with you no matter what happens." I assured her.
Ritsuka stares at me.
"Senpai." Mashu grabs her attention. "When we were fighting Saber, I thought we're going to survive; I lost hope. But when I saw by my side, determined to win, you gave me hope. You gave me the strength to protect you." She takes her hands. "I want to give you that hope. My shield is at your disposal, I will protect you from those who will bring you harm."
Ritsuka couldn't take it, the pressure was overwhelming. They're asking too much from her! She isn't even a magus! And yet, what's there to do? Humanity's all but extinct and Chaldea's literally on its last legs. If she doesn't do this, so many lives will be lost; from those that came and those that haven't come to be.
There is only one choice.
"I'll do it." Ritsuka finally said.
Mashu smiles.
Olga Marie folds her arms under her chest. "Are you sure about this? You will be shouldering the burden of both Chaldea and humanity's future on your shoulders. It's practically hell you'll be walking into."
"Yeah… I know. But if I don't do this, then I'll be letting so many people down. Besides, fighting for your future is always worth it!" Ritsuka exclaims with gusto.
"You forget. She isn't doing this alone." I said.
Olga Marie smirks. "I guess I was wrong about you. You might just be the one we've been looking for." Her smirk turns serious as she turns to Romani. "We will now carry out the Preservation of Humanity plan. Our objective is the protection and recovery of human history! Our search target will be each era's grail: the known source of the Singularities!" She states. "There will be many obstacles, Heroic Spirits from the ages who will impede our path but we will not be deterred! We will protect human history, even if that means having to defy the Will of Humanity itself!"
[Isn't she technically going against us since we are part of the Will of Humanity?]
'Technically, but I'm finding her determination to be very charming.' I thought.
"As of this moment, we will discard our original mission: First Order." Olga Marie began. "From now on, this will Chaldea's first and last mission: The Grand Order!" She clenches her fist and lifts her arm up. "We are taking back our future!"
A loud roar of cheers can be heard as the speech was broadcasted throughout the entire facility. In another time, the fate of all would depend on the souls of two people, risking their lives in every corner while losing the people precious to them with every step they took. But now united for a common cause, the last remnants of humanity took the first steps towards a journey the likes of which no one has even seen.
"What is this place?" Ritsuka asked.
After the speech, we were led to another area in the facility. The doors opened and we walked in, revealing an empty chamber with an observation deck a bit to the left and a familiar cross-shaped shield on the floor. I can sense the incredible density of mana just by standing here though it's somewhat… drained?
"We're standing on top of a ley line. A big one. But it's being drained." I comment.
"That's right. Chaldea was built right beneath a ley line, however, we're in need of power right now." Romani said.
"Is that… Mashu's shield?" Ritsuka asked.
Romani nods. "Chaldea's summoning system was patterned after the Heroic Spirit summoning ritual utilized in the Grail Wars of Fuyuki City. With it, it is possible to summon Servants without needing a catalyst."
"I'm sensing a 'but' here." Ritsuka added.
"But… the process isn't perfect. Only three Servants have ever been successfully summoned using this system. The rest were just random items that had no real significance at all." Romani admits.
Olga Marie lets out an exasperated sigh. "When we detected the Fuyuki singularity, we originally intended to have the Master candidates use the FATE system to summon their Servants, however, because the likelihood of summoning a proper Servant was only 2% we refrained from using it."
"You know, this kind of sounds a lot like gacha to me." Ritsuka comments.
Olga Marie's eyebrow twitches. "Yes, I suppose you could call it that…"
[She looks like she's about to burst]
"Anyways, after you've returned I had Mashu's shield analyzed and found that it can be used as a catalyst to stabilize the summoning ritual. With it, we can theoretically bypass the 2% probability of Heroic Spirit manifestation!" Romani said.
I stare at the summoning circle. A personalized summoning system that will allow you to summon any Heroic Spirit without a catalyst does sound like a good idea on paper, yes, but I can see some flaws in it. One; the simple fact that you can summon any Servant sounds easily exploitable as that anyone could potentially use it to create an army. Two; the amount of mana required to maintain all of those Servants would be astronomical even worse when said Servants are summoned under powerful classes like Berserker. And third; the fact that the whole thing sounds like a gacha game. You could spend all of your money and still not get the prize you want. Plus it kind of sounds dehumanizing since the person may just throw them away if it's not the Servant they want.
The thought of that happening leaves me a bit irritated.
"Quick question; exactly how many Servants can this system call upon?"
Now it's Romani's turn to be deep in thought. "Well, formally… as long as we can provide the system with energy and at least a catalyst for invoking the Servant."
Ritsuka tilts her head. "Wait but didn't you just say we don't need a catalyst?"
"Normally, yes that would be the case. But we need all of the energy we can access to maintain the shields and life support, so we simply cannot afford to spend more energy for the summoning ritual. As for the catalyst, having a personal item of a Servant would allow us to call upon the Servant with a 100% chance of success but we don't have that either, so instead we will need an alternative source of mana to call upon the hero." Romani stops at those words.
"Hm…" I pondered for a moment until I got an idea. "I believe I have what you need." I raise my hand as particles of light begin to gather around me. After a moment, a small Kaleidoscopic crystal forms in my hand.
I narrow my eyes at this. "Seriously?"
"Um… what is that?" Ritsuka asked, awestruck by what she just witnessed.
"This is a Quasi-Spiritron Crystals, or a Saint Quarts for short. They are, to put it simply, the potential energy of an era that hasn't happened yet that has been condensed into a crystallized state." I said.
"Potential energy?" Mashu asked.
"Energy from the future. Of days that haven't happened yet." Olga Marie clarified.
"But because the future literally no longer exists, all I got was this tiny thing." I flick the little crystal into the air which Fou quickly catches.
"Fou!"
The director facepalms. "Great, so we're back at square one."
"Not quite, I still have this." I go through my coat and pull out the golden crystal from before. It begins to shine brightly, blinding the entire room. The light subsides revealing a golden chalice in my hands.
"The Holy Grail! You want to use the Holy Grail as a catalyst!?" Romani exclaims.
"And power source. It should be enough for a couple of summons. But before we start I gotta ask..." I turn to the group. "Do you guys have any wishes?"
"No."
"No."
"Nope."
"None."
"Fou."
"Good. Here you go." I give the Holy Grail to Romani, who marvels at it like a kid who just got their Christmas present.
"This… we could use it to summon a hundred Servants, maybe a thousand!" The doctor laughs. "Oh my friend, you have just made my day!" He then turns to RItsuka. "Fujimaru-chan, would you head down to the summoning room."
RItsuka walks out of the observation room and into the summoning room.
"We will start with a test launch of the system. Are you ready?" Olga Marie asked.
"Ready." Ritsuka nods as she peers into the summoning circle, not noticing the sounds of the giant machinery used to ensure the ritual. The Holy Grail begins to glow, turning into a light sphere as it floats to the summoning circle like a magnet, illuminating the entire room with a bright golden light. Everyone covers their eyes as the light becomes too much for us and before we could blink we heard a familiar voice.
"Lancer-class at last! I have been summoned and answered your call!" The speaker's voice was excited. "Let's get along, Master!"
Our sight finally adjusted and we were able to focus on the person in front of the young Master. The Servant summoned was identical to the Caster Servant from the Fuyuki Singularity however, instead of robes he is wearing a skin-tight blue jumpsuit and instead of a staff he is carrying a blood-red spear.
"Caster?" Ritsuka asked.
"Nope, not this time!" His smile was borderline egotistical. "I have been summoned under the Lancer-class! Thanks little lady!"
"O-Oh, okay." Ritsuka stuttered. "Wait, you remember me?"
"Yeah. It's a bit vague but I do remember you and your companions. Like that young lady with the shield and that other one." Cú Chulainn waves at me. "Yo! You looking sharp! Ready for another team up?"
I nod and let out a little smile.
"Now that we got introductions out of the way… summon the next Servant already!" Olga Marie yells through the comms.
"B-But chief. This is only meant to be a tes-"
"I don't care! Start the ritual now!" The director of Chaldea yells.
"Y-Yes ma'am!" Romani whimpered.
"Yikes, she's even crankier than before." Cú Chulainn comments.
Just as he said this, the grail began to glow again as there was another flash of light.
"Second Servant in a row!" Romani nods in satisfaction as another figure appears.
"Servant, Assassin-class. My name is Semiramis. Now then...first, you must prepare a throne for me, then we shall talk. If you do not have one, then YOU will have to serve as my chair. " The Servant, Semiramis, states with an authoritative tone in her voice.
"I have just the thing, your majesty." I snap my fingers and an ornate throne appears behind her. The throne was made to look like an arrow facing up, while on the back lay shards of obsidian as if it was carved from it.
Semiramis looks at the throne and gently takes a seat on it. "This is good, very good indeed." She praises me and gives me a glance. "And what is the name of the one who prepared such an excellent throne."
"My name is Frank, your majesty." I bowed.
"I see. I will remember your name." Semiramis said.
Ritsuka doesn't have time to get acquainted with the new Servant as there was another flash of light.
"Third successful call in a row!" The doctor claps excitingly.
"It seems the system is fully operational." Olga Marie comments.
"...I have come in response to your summons. Are you the one who is to be my Master?" Saber Alter asks in a cold monotone manner. "... it's you."
Ritsuka, Olga, and Mashu freeze at the sight of the Servant. The same Saber-class Servant who tried to kill them not too long ago in the Fuyuki Singularity.
"Do not worry. As you are my Master, I will be your sword and shield. No harm shall come to you." Salter states.
Ritsuka gulps before nodding. The blackened Saber steps out of the altar and stands beside the others. She looks at Cú Chulainn and notices the red spear resting on his shoulder. "You are a Lancer now."
"Sure am and proud of it!" Cú Chulainn exclaims.
"Interesting. Maybe you will provide a better challenge this time." Salter mocks.
"Please lady. If I could beat you as a Caster, I sure as hell can kick your ass as a Lancer." Cú Chulainn retorts.
"We shall see." Salter ends the chat there.
There is another flash of light coming from the summoning circle.
"Here comes number four!" Romani exclaims.
The being is a massive creature of muscle. He has short red hair with red feathers on top of his head and white blank plain eyes. He wears a red Chinese general uniform including large armor and thick fur trimming at the collar and gloves.
"▂▂▃▃▂▂!" Berserker roars out.
"Holy shit!" Cú Chulainn and Salter quickly got into a battle stance, their instincts screaming at them saying run or die.
"Calm down you two, he's not going to hurt you." Semiramis said.
"W-Who is this guy?" Ritsuka trembles in fear as the imposing Servant stares down at her.
"That's Lu Bu, the General of Repetition of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms! He is an infamously treacherous military commander who killed his foster fathers and would switch sides whenever it suited him." Romani states. "His fighting abilities are said to be unmatched!"
"Wow, that's awesome!" Ritsuka exclaims. "It's nice to meet you, Lu Bu!"
"▂▂" Lu Bu growls and steps out of the altar.
The fifth summoning begins, however, it isn't a Servant that is summoned. The light from the altar quickly flashes and leaves what looks like a doll reminiscent of a certain guy with blue hair.
"Here's our first unsuccessful summon." Romani said dejectedly. "Well, this was bound to happen eventually."
Ritsuka picks up the doll from the center. "What should I do with this?"
"Give me that." Ritsuka hands me the doll. In a second, the doll is engulfed in flames and leaves only ashes.
"Why did you do that!? I could have used it to decorate my room!" Ritsuka shouts.
"Trust me, Gudako. That would have done more harm than good." I told her and we moved on to the next summoning.
"Archer-class Servant. I have been summoned and come at your request." The red Archer, EMIYA, states with a smile.
"Oh hell no! What the hell are you doing here!?" Cú Chulainn shrieks and points his spear at EMIYA.
EMIYA glances at Cú Chulainn. "Oh? Ireland's Child of Light is here as well. It seems our fates are more intertwined than I thought."
"You are lucky we serve the same Master, otherwise I would have kicked your ass." Cú states.
"Hmph." EMIYA just huffs and ignores the blue Lancer.
"Hello." I said.
"Hm." EMIYA glances at me for a second before looking back at the altar as the last summon is made.
"Servant Rider, Medusa." The all-too familiar woman introduces herself. "If you require a sacrifice, do feel free to command me as you wish."
Ritsuka stares at the now named Rider-class Servant. While her Lancer-class self was sadistic and psychotic, this one seemed calm and collected but she had an ice-cold aura that made it hard to get close to her.
"My name is Ritsuka Fujimaru, I hope we can get along." She said
Medusa looks up and sees the other Servants summoned until she stops and looks at me. She tilts her head a bit as she continues to stare catching everyone's attention.
I open my mouth but no words come out. There was something... strange happening in my chest. A reaction of some kind.
I walk up to her and look her in the eye. That strange feeling seemed to be getting stronger the closer I was to her, I don't understand. Have we met before? It seemed like the most logical explanation. But there was one way to find out...
"Hello," I half whispered loud enough for her to hear. "Do you remember me?"
Medusa looks at me, really looks at me. Though she's wearing a blindfold, I can tell she is scanning me and trying to remember something. It feels like an eternity when its only been a couple of seconds. Finally, she opens her mouth.
"No."
I stumbled back when she said that. That word. It felt like my heart had been pierced by one of her nails. Why? Why did it make me feel this way? It doesn't make sense!
"I see…" My voice trembles as I try to keep my emotions in check. "Nice to meet you."
Medusa nods and walks off the altar.
Everyone stares at what just happened with confusion on their faces. What was that about?
"...alright, I think that's enough for now." Romani tries to dispense the tense atmosphere. "Despite having been used for seven consecutive summons, the Holy Grail doesn't seem to have lost a lot of power. We might be able to use it next time."
Olga Marie continues. "Now that you have your Servants, it's time to enter the next phase. You can get to know your Servants while we get everything ready."
Mashu walks in. "Please follow me." Everyone is led out of the room leaving me behind. Medusa glances at me for a brief moment before leaving with the others.
"Are you alright?" Mashu asks, clearly worried.
I don't even look at her. "... I'll be fine. I just want to be alone for a bit."
Mashu complies and leaves me alone. As soon as she does, tears begin to run down on my face.
I was crying.
The Guardian Heroic Spirit Summoning System "FATE" was completed in 2004 A.D. It allows for members of Chaldea who are considered "provisional Masters" to summon Heroic Spirits as Servants. A system patterned after the Heroic Spirit summoning ritual utilized in the Grail Wars of Fuyuki City, which enacts summoning per agreement of purpose between Master and Servant. Marisbury used this data as the basis for creating the summoning ritual.
Prior to the "Singularity Point F'' incident, the FATE system didn't operate very well, and the success rate wasn't very high. Subsequently, the FATE system was stabilized with Mash's infusion as a Demi-Servant. It was only with the assistance of "Shielder" that the foundation of the summoning system was functionally verified. The Cross-Shaped Shield held by Mash, was used as Catalyst for the establishment of a summoning circle. The shield was composed of the holy relic Round Table, but what lies at its foundation is the "place where heroes assemble". Servants summoned by the FATE system are granted the ability to carry around additional magical energy beyond what they would normally be capable of storing, which lets them remain materialized even if separated from their Master by extreme distances. Additionally, the system provides for all their magical energy requirements while they are within Chaldea's environs, allowing them to stay materialized for what is functionally an unlimited period of time. If defeated in battle, Chaldean Servants do not return to the Throne of Heroes, but instead return to Chaldea where their Spirit Origins can be reconstituted.
On rare occasions, Servants summoned using the FATE system are able to retain most or even all memory of their previous summoning, including memories of past Holy Grail Wars. The exact reason for this phenomenon is unknown, but the stability of the Servant's Saint Graph is believed to be a factor in memory recovery.
When the Mages' Association pressured Chaldea to release control of their summoned Servants prior to the Human Order Revision, Da Vinci was able to preserve their memories by ensuring that the Servants' contracts were temporarily frozen rather than being outright annulled, then hand-engraving the relevant records into their Saint Graphs. This process ensured the recovery of their memories even after Chaldea was forced to evacuate onto the Shadow Border.
Unlike conventional summoning systems, FATE is able to summon Divine Spirits, Pseudo-Servants, and even living beings that have been temporarily converted into Servants.
Spiritrons are a substance defined as "the 'true essence' of the soul."
With the loss of Third Magic in the Great Collapse of the 1970s. Magi discovered "Pseudo-Spiritrons" with modern science. The magical theory of Pseudo-Spiritrons points out where the "location of consciousness was being outputted". In the past, the conscious could only be manifested through the body. But the magi pinpointed the location of the "soul" and succeeded in outputting it to the new frontier, projecting it as an avatar in the cyber world. After all, the soul was a higher dimensional energy body and it was quite superior as an information medium. From this theory it became clear that the soul can activate even without a physical body, and as such the soul has come to be treated as "the source of a person."
Saint Quarts, also known as Quasi-Spiritron Crystals, are the "crystallization of the concept that establishes countless futures." It takes the form of a stone imbued with "sacred power."

I likely wouldn't update this until next month, so don't expect any new updates. You know, ever since the move I've been having a harder time trying to focus on writing and also looking for a new job; there's that. But hey, I'm still kicking so don't kill me off just yet.
Like always, comment/review. Don't send me flames.
Peace~
