Hello again! Merry Christmas to whoever celebrates and a Happy New Year (in advance) to everyone! :D
While reading various SebastianxOC fanfictions very few satisfied me (check my favorites list if interested), so I started entertaining the thought of exploring how the story in the manga could be with the addition of one more character, that is Selina. I realized it can absolutely work when done correctly, when I read "Demons Fall First" by Safire Lupe (also in favorites), so... you can thank (if you like my story) or blame (if you don't like it) Safire for the idea :). Actually, that story made Season 2 of the anime more interesting to me and it made sense! Therefore, I thought "Why not try my luck?" and created Selina! The blond hair in both of our OCs is coincidence, I just did not want for my OC to look like Sebastian (as it happens in some stories) or myself (I like my black hair very much, wouldn't change it for blonde) so I chose an appearance completely opposite from Sebastian... and me, of course.
Anyway, enough from me. Chapter three is here with some action and laughs (at least I enjoyed a lot writing this part)! Enjoy and if you like, let me know what you think! Again, I'm sorry for the slow progress but I follow the manga pretty closely.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Kuroshitsuji or its characters. I entirely own only my OCs, arcs and ideas/themes not mentioned in any form of the franchise (manga, anime, games, movies or musicals).
Chapter 3: The Tutor, Unpleasant Meetings
Sebastian's eyes opened wide watching the red haired man, who in turn was looking at the butler with a rather seductive look in his eyes. The man stood up sniggering and without taking his eyes off Sebastian, spoke.
"Hunk… sighted!"
"Hunk? Who's the hunk?" Selina asked quietly, raising one eyebrow questioningly, while Ciel revealed the man's name in utter surprise "Grell Sutcliff!"
"Hi! It has been absolutely ages, Sebastian darling. Being reunited here must be fate!" Said Grell in absolute delight and started swaying his body in a way that would break the hips of the most flexible woman.
"It is simply coincidence." Sebastian said bluntly with an annoyed look on his face.
The red haired man blushed and left a squeal with evident delight, but soon his blush turned to a face red from anger and the squeal into a very threatening scream.
"Ah! Sebby! Who is that ugly woman by your side?" He asked after his mind registered Selina's presence.
The said "ugly woman" had goggled eyes and mouth half open. "Wa-Wait!" She turned to Sebastian and her eyes were sparkling from amusement. "You're the hunk she- erm... he said?"
"I am afraid so." The butler answered very displeased and seemed that he was starting to get impatient.
"And the Sebby?"
"Yes."
"So, she-he has the hots for you?"
"Miss Clark, I am not familiar with that expression but if you mean that he is romantically interested in me… then yes, to my disgust."
Selina, with a sudden movement, managed to cover her mouth, before she burst out laughing and forced herself to a low chuckling, obviously having fun with the whole situation and the people involved in it.
"And why are you laughing, if I may ask? Is not my Sebby a hunk? Do you doubt it?" Grell asked raising threateningly his chainsaw.
"Oh no, madam. I would never doubt it. I mean… It's understandable and I totally get it." Selina said lifting her hands in a manner of surrender while glancing towards Sebastian. "But still… it is so funny." She finished and tried to stifle another fit of laughter rising inside her.
Now, Grell had turned towards the blond, younger man and was yelling at him because he did not say that "Sebastian darling" was here, and if Grell knew he would have put on his make up in order to outshine that "ugly woman".
"And that's exactly why I didn't tell you… plus, I don't find her ugly at all, she is pretty cute." The blond man said and winked at Selina, who blushed slightly but did not have time to answer, since Sebastian grabbed her arm and started pulling her towards the exit of the room. Ciel and Lizzie were preceding.
"Listen you… Ah!" Grell screamed as soon as he realized that they were trying to escape. "Hey, wait for me!"
He jumped right in front of the butler swinging his deadly chainsaw, forcing him to grab the two kids and jump in the air as Selina ducked just in time. Grell went on with his rambling on how cruel Sebastian was by "lighting a fire in a woman and then abandoning her" the same time the reaper was trying to decapitate the demon and Sebastian was avoiding it with his so perfectly fluid movements.
"As we are in something of a hurry, would you be so kind as to let us pass?" Sebastian asked in a final effort to resolve the issue as fast as he could.
"And what if I refuse?" Grell asked playfully.
"We shall force our way through if we must." Sebastian announced and his eyes were shining in their full demonic red, pupils turned to slits.
"Oh yes… I cannot say I dislike an aggressive man!" Grell said in a low, seductive voice, his body shaking from excitement. "Well then, let us have a death-match hotter than any love romance!" The man acting so much like a woman said while swinging his chainsaw.
The sight was so... queer in Lizzie's eyes that the girl could not resist and ask who was that person.
"He is just a pervert. I am afraid it might be contagious, so please step back and stay away from him!" The demon butler said pushing the two children backwards, towards Selina, entrusting their safety to her.
"That is quite rude of you, Mr. Michaelis. Miss Sutcliff might be a little on the loony side, but she is not a pervert just because she identifies herself as a woman, a trans-woman to be accurate, and it is in no way contagious-" Selina paused seeing the irritated, perhaps even angry look Sebastian gave her. "Right... Please, forget everything I said." The blond woman said and resumed her protective stance, with swords in hands and shielding the children with her body.
Of course, it was too soon for people, obviously even for demons, to understand and accept a person like Grell Sutcliff, who happened to be born a man but never felt being anything other than a woman. At the time it seemed unthinkable, but in a little less than a century, Grell would be able to finally break free from gender stereotypes and have more liberty to be herself!
"I hate agreeing with the ugly woman, but that was indeed rude, Bassy! I am just honest about my feelings!" The reaper's voice drew everyone's attention back in action as he... or perhaps it is better to say 'she' from now on, attacked in full force.
The black clad butler and the scarlet reaper engaged once more into a fierce battle. Sebastian always getting away from the reaper's weapon by jumping around the room and launching hard kicks towards Grell, who was also avoiding them by demonstrating her equally graceful, deadly dance. It went on until the moment Grell hit a porthole with the chainsaw. The glass broke and the water flooded in washing away everything standing in its way.
Selina threw herself over the two children protectively, but the water's force was so great that it separated them and slammed Selina hard on a wall, making her lose hold of her weapons. Ciel and Lizzie were drifted further away, with Ciel spraining his ankle and Lizzie ending up in the hallway with her face in the water. Sebastian tried to get close to his young master, but Ronald Knox, the young blond reaper, claimed his attention by attacking him with the lawnmower and forcing the demon to be able to do nothing more than holding the roaring machine away from smashing his head.
Selina came around when she heard Ciel's scream in an effort to wake the unconscious Lizzie. The woman picked up her swords and made a movement to get close to the girl, who was already getting surrounded by walking corpses, but she did not get the chance. A high heeled boot landed on her midsection, pushing her violently against the wall. Grell Sutcliff was standing in front of her, drenched in water but looking at her with eyes filled with envy and jealousy. She lifted her chainsaw and would have cut the woman in half if she was not quick enough to lift and cross her swords stopping the deadly saw.
"Hmm… You are not one of us… for certain, because we would never allow an ugly woman to be a reaper… yet your weapons can actually withstand a death scythe, mm? For how long?" Grell smiled at Selina revealing jagged teeth, while pushing her down with greater force. "Anyway… you will pay for trying to seduce my darling Sebastian! I believe you understand, as a woman to another; I cannot afford having such a peculiar female close to him, you might distract him."
"Miss Sutcliff, I always knew you're a complete nutcase… I always knew it was personal, although the others said no… and I do understand, but I assure you… seducing your Sebastian is not my mission here!" Selina said with a red face, white hands and a body at the point of breaking down from all the pressure Grell was forcing on her.
Having said that, she lowered herself in an almost sitting position on the floor, steadied her weight on her right foot and launched the left upwards, sending her heel find its way to Grell's face. The reaper lost her balance and fell back. Selina dashed immediately towards Lizzie, since even though cornered by Grell she could still hear Ciel's desperate screams, see his agony and, to her surprise, even Sebastian seemed to be in agony for the girl although he was stranded by Mr. Knox.
The zombies had closed around Lizzie and the girl crying was apologizing for not being cute till the end; however, before Selina could get to her, Lizzie flung herself up with two swords in hands and started mercilessly slashing the undead. Her movements had such a deadly fury and she seemed to be in a frenzy making obvious that whoever attempted to get close to her would end up dead, whether that person was living or dead already.
"This ugly side of me… I wanted to do everything in my power to keep you from having to see it… But this time… I will protect you!" Lizzie cried as she continued slashing at every walking corpse in her path and now she was close to Ciel; she positioned herself protectively in front of him. "I am the daughter of Alexis Leon Midford, marquess of Midford and head of the order of the British Empire! I am… Elizabeth! Wife of the Queen's Watchdog!" She screamed more determined than she had ever been in her life.
Everyone was left speechless, watching the unrecognizable girl performing her own deadly dance with absolute precision. Ciel's mouth had dropped open; Sebastian's eyes were wide open; still holding the roaring lawnmower that seemed completely forgotten by its owner, since Ronald Knox was furrowing his brows in surprise and confusion while also watching Lizzie. Selina froze in her tracks and her eyes were filled with admiration towards the little girl.
When there was not one walking corpse left standing, the green fires of Lizzie's eyes landed on an also astonished Grell. She ran towards the reaper and lunged her sword in an attempt to stab her. Two gloved fingers stopped her blade and the girl saw Sebastian standing by her side, looking at her apologetically.
"My lady… You have done enough. To have forced a lady to go to such lengths as these… I am a failure as a butler. Please forgive me." He was now kneeling in front of the girl, to Selina's surprise; it was her turn for her jaw to drop open not believing what she was seeing. "I shall handle the rest." He finally said, standing up, facing Grell and Ronald and stretching his white gloves preparing himself to continue the fight from where it was left off.
Grell seemed extremely happy and excited but Ciel's voice stopped them. The young Earl reminded his butler they didn't have the luxury to spend time on the reapers. They had to find Rian Stoker, the scientist who had remained with Snake when Ciel and Lizzie got separated from him in the flooding boiler room. Ronald hearing this, opened a small notebook, read something and then showed it to Grell.
"I see. It seems we cannot afford to play with you either." Grell said and the two reapers jumped back through the hole on the ceiling. "Next time I will make sure to wrap you all in rosy red! Count. On. It!" She squealed while sending kisses towards a very irritated Sebastian.
"Bye cutie. We might meet again." Ronald said to Selina, winking playfully again.
Selina waved at him with cheeks slightly blushed. When she turned to Sebastian his face looked even more annoyed, throwing her a grim side glance.
"What? It seems you are not the only one who is a big hit among the reapers." The woman said and shrugged her shoulders.
"We should hurry too…" Ciel's voice and pained groan brought them back to reality.
Everyone ran to him and Sebastian saw that Ciel's ankle was quite swollen; an impulsive Lizzie offered to carry him on her back, making Ciel's face flush from embarrassment and Sebastian with Selina smile quite amused. Suddenly Lizzie's eyes filled with tears and the girl started crying that she was exactly the type of scary girl Ciel hated. Ciel had no idea what she was talking about and at a complete loss he said whatever came to mind trying to calm her down.
"Then will you still marry me? You do not hate me?" Lizzie asked and her voice was filled with hope.
"How can I hate you…?" Ciel started saying, but then he lost his voice and a bright red blush exploded on his face. "Now is not the time for this! We are heading upstairs, come on!" He finally yelled trying to compose himself.
Sebastian, out of nowhere, started chuckling and put his hand in front of his mouth to contain himself from sputtering… without great success, to Ciel's annoyance.
Selina hugged lightly Lizzie's shoulders smiling at her. "My lady, people grow up and change, not only on the outside. Their behaviour changes, their beliefs and wants, that is why I do not think you should give credit to something our Lord Phantomhive must have said years ago, when he was just a small child, yes?" Lizzie hesitantly nodded.
"Even the young master cannot hold his own against his lady, I see." Sebastian said still laughing, not really trying to hide it now.
"Shut your mouth!" Ciel yelled at his butler. The child seemed totally embarrassed and frustrated, mostly because the butler was obviously and shamelessly making fun of him.
Lizzie did not seem to really understand what the two males were talking about, but did not pay too much attention since Selina, who was also struggling not to laugh and embarrass the boy even more, encouraged her to get up and ready to leave the room.
"Well then, let us be off." Sebastian said slipping one hand underneath Ciel's knees and supporting his back with the other, as the boy wrapped his arm around Sebastian's neck to steady himself. Sebastian lifted the feather weighted child.
"You bastard. Are you done giggling yet?" Asked Ciel as he was feeling the butler's body still shaking from laughter and made a fist with his free hand, clearly showing his intention of even punching Sebastian.
"Smile!" A voice was heard right at that moment and a panting Snake appeared. The pale man informed them that Rian escaped and the group decided to, first, go on deck and find the Midford family.
That is exactly what they did and the three Midfords were extremely happy to see Lizzie safe and sound; people were already boarding the lifeboats and soon their turn would come too. Logically, Sebastian and Ciel would board with them, but it was exactly that moment when Ciel, standing on his own full height, asked Edward Midford to take Snake in his place. That shocked Lizzie and Snake himself, but Ciel did not pay attention, he simply announced that he could not leave the ship yet. Lizzie tried to protest and say that she would stay too, but Sebastian's sudden movement left her unconscious and the butler delivered the girl into the safety of her brother's arms. After that, Edward agreed that he would take care of Snake, and thus Sebastian picked up Ciel and returned inside the ship, followed by Selina, who ostentatiously ignored a frantic female voice calling her from the boats.
Soon enough they were crossing a corridor of the first class cabins when Sebastian suddenly stopped on his tracks and he, along with Ciel, looked straight ahead in great surprise. Selina followed their gaze and her eyes opened wide.
An astonishingly handsome blond man was walking in the corridor followed by some other men holding a strange device. The blond man looked like having a divine quality in his appearance and being too aware of that, to the point of arrogance. He was holding a glass of wine and walked as if heading for a ball.
"You are… the Viscount of Druitt?!" Ciel said and of course drew the man's attention.
"Mm? And who are you? How do you know who I am?" Viscount of Druitt asked like he was just awakened from a beautiful dream.
Ciel and Sebastian stayed silent gulping quite audibly not knowing what to say, Ciel even looked a little pale. They were lucky that the man was suddenly so taken over by the fact that even people he did not know had heard of him, he was too busy to question them further. Of course, it seemed absolutely natural in his mind that they should know him as he was "the very embodiment of beauty celebrated in every social occasion".
"Ah… but I do not know you, my beauty and I would be utterly delighted to become very familiar with you, my golden goddess! Diana herself walks on Earth when you do!" He exclaimed with his eyes fixed on Selina, whose hair had come loose after the wave of water in the dining room and now her golden curls were hugging her shoulders resting on top of her round breasts.
Sebastian was well aware they did not have much time, but he could not resist the temptation of throwing a glance towards the woman to see her reaction. Selina looked rather terrified, her face white and her eyes wide open at the Viscount's words; with a sudden side step she hid behind Sebastian's broad shoulders making the butler her shield as she lightly grabbed the waist of his tailcoat. Ciel looked at her rather sympathetically over the butler's shoulder; he had a first-hand experience on how harassed could someone feel even by the Viscount's words.
"With all due respect, what are you doing in a place like this, Viscount? The walking dead are ambling through this vessel as we speak." Sebastian said trying to move the discussion to the actual point of interest.
The Viscount smiled knowingly. "There is something here that I dare not leave on this sinking ship, even if it means exposing myself to mortal danger… And that is the reason why I cannot dedicate my entire existence in getting to know you, my living ray of light. I do hope you will forgive me!" He finished with an over dramatic tone trying to steal a glance from Selina, still hidden behind the butler.
Selina peeked from behind Sebastian's right arm; a fake smile on her lips, half closed eyelids to mask her insincerity and a hand waving delicately. "N-no, my lord. Do not bother yourself with poor little me; it hurts that I will not make an acquaintance of you, but time will heal my wounded heart. I am sure what keeps you bound on this ship is far more greater than me."
The Viscount of Druitt sighed deeply and instantly forgetting his "pain" on behalf of the woman, started explaining of how small importance are the corpses on the ship; but then he realized he had spoken too much to unknown people.
"The eternal flame in this breast!" Suddenly Sebastian sounded utterly serious.
"Cannot be quenched by anyone. We are…" The Viscount went on, stopping from leaving along with the strange contraption.
"Phoenix!" Everybody yelled performing a totally ridiculous pose of standing on one foot, the other one bent to the knee and lifted in the air, and hands also in the air with wrists bent down in an attempt to mimic the open wings of the phoenix, the bird engraved on the coffins containing the undead. Selina was left speechless staring but then did the pose too... just to be on the safe side.
Immediately after that, Ciel asked about the contraption, if it could stop the advances of the horrid horde, and the Viscount, pleased that he found more comrades from the Aurora Society, invited them to follow him and witness the birth of a new Aurora. The trio followed; Sebastian, whispering, asked his master if they should take the device by force, but Ciel did not find it wise since they did not know how to operate it, whereas the Viscount seemed to have that knowledge.
At that moment they heard a not so quiet giggling from one of the men carrying the device. Ciel looked closely and recognized his extremely weird, silver haired informant, the Undertaker. "What are you doing here?" Ciel asked him.
"I was told to help carry this as I was in the middle of running for my life, you see!" The man said in his characteristic dragging of the last vowels. "Then I caught sight of the Earl hollering "Phoenix" once more and…"
"Wipe that from your memory right now!" The boy Earl commanded fully embarrassed. "But more importantly, do you have a clue as to how this thing works?" He asked now in a lower voice.
"Cannot say that I do? I wonder if something like this serves any useful purpose, you know?" The Undertaker answered giggling and smiling widely as always, obviously enjoying himself with this situation.
A small explanation about the change of Grell's pronouns.
Without meaning to offend anyone, when Grell appeared first time on screen in full glory, I saw an extremely effeminate gay man... that's all, plain and simple. So, Grell was a "he" in great part of my story during the writing process. Then, I read discussions about this issue and my best friend that beta-read the story insisted I should change it, since Toboso has stated Grell as a trans-woman. Fine by me, Grell is a "she", but since we have a Victorian narration, I thought I should do the transition as smoothly as I could... Although it came out as a little didactic, right? Sorry... Also, just to be clear, Grell is a "she" only in narration or when my OC(s) talk, Toboso's characters refer to Grell as "he" throughout the story because in Victorian era Grell would be considered a man, regardless of how she acts and calls herself.
That's all, I apologize for talking too much in this chapter! :)
