Opening File: Guardians of the Beam

The Dark Tower is the center of all creation. It is said to be Gan's body, and is held up by six Beams of great size and length, visible only by their effects on the lands along their lines - such as patterns in the clouds. At each end of the Beams, there is a portal, for a total of twelve. Each portal is protected by a guardian animal.

They defend the Dark Tower and its many worlds from the forces of the Outer Dark that seek to destroy the Multi-Verse held together by the Tower and spread across the large Omniverse. These twelve guardians are: hare, bear, horse, dog, eagle, elephant, rat, wolf, turtle, fish, bat and lion. Each guardian protects one end of the six beams.

Opening File: The Cosmic Imagination

The Cosmic Imagination, also known as The Cosmic Mind or simply The Multiverse is the sentient Multiverse that governs all of creation. Very little is known of the entity, however what we do know is that it is the source of all magic throughout the cosmos as all magic is channeling its power. It is said that any being that channels its power can gain the ability to control reality itself.

A book was made to describe its nature:

'If reality is Mental in nature, analogous to a Cosmic Mind, and if Wizardry is a function of the Imagination, then the Forces of Nature in the Multiverse are akin to the Currents of the Cosmic Imagination. Thus, the Origin of Wizardry is at the Core of Creation, and Wizards can create or destroy as they wish, tapping into the Power of the Cosmic Imagination.'

Opening File: Magic

Magic is a mysterious power that has existed since the Connected Era. After the Forgotten Age magic has mostly been forgotten with only a few magical users left in the world. While there are many theories on where Magic comes from it is known that Magic is the practice of harnessing dimensional energies to manipulate one or more aspects of the infinite realities that are present within the Multiverse. It encompasses many different activities, including astral projection, divination, spell casting and teleportation, and includes the practices of many cultures and religions, as well as many books and writings from ancient times.

Depending upon the individual, some sorcerers practice their power by certain belief systems, such as Shamanism, Voodoo, Wicca, or any number of other practices from cultures around the world. Magic is divided into three different categories: Personal energies, Universal energies and Dimensional energies. Supposedly, all magic is built on the concept that all realities can be reshaped by tapping into the existing power that is found in themselves, the Universe, or other dimensions. Personal energies are those derived from the life force of the sorcerer in manner similar to Aura.

Personal energies can only be used to power abilities developed through mental studies and are thus limited to mental powers such as astral projection, hypnotism, telekinesis and telepathy. However, because it is known that the continual use of such energies will fatally deplete the individual by consuming their life force; sorcerers must also learn to harness external forces through meditation techniques and trained willpower. It is known that the students enrolled at Jade Academy are trained to harness an internal force known as Chi as a means to strengthen their own minds and willpower.

One of the easier sources that a sorcerer can draw power from is the Universal energies of their home dimension. Universal energies can be used for conjuration and teleportation purposes and are commonly used in battle to create shields and weapons of energy. Universal spells usually require specific gestures and/or words in order to be activated. Some Universal energy can also be used by astral bodies that contain a dimensional anchor in the form of an artifact or an individual.

Lastly, Dimensional energies are those that are bestowed upon a sorcerer from one or more extra-dimensional entities. These entities must be entreated by the sorcerer using ritualistic spells and possibly a promise or sacrifice of some method. Miss Spell has knowledge of the magical arts and can cast spells, such as shooting sparks of energy, flying, electrokinesis, probability manipulation and even a small amount of reality manipulation. The Grim Reaper, as a supernatural creature of the Underworld, Grim naturally has tremendously powerful supernatural powers of his own, such as being able to grow in size and warp his form and the ability to possess the living.

As an 'undead, talking magical skeleton', Grim is a complete animated skeleton of bones that is able to function both as a complete skeleton and independently as individual bones. Likely because of his profession as the Grim Reaper, Grim has the power to extend any living thing's lifetime. Glossaryck is considered the strongest magic user in the High Magic Council, which should make him far superior to Omnitraxus Prime and Moon Butterfly, the former of which is a living space-time continuum. It is said he has access to spells that can freeze time for entire universes, and destroy others.

Hekapoo is the only known creator of dimensional scissors, which she forges from vats of molten metal. Hekapoo can generate and control fire; this usually manifests as a small flame above her head. She can also channel heat through her hands. Omnitraxus can bend time and space to his will.

Space-time-related problems, such as time loops, are his specialty and in his body lay the Crystal Fields of Interwoven Continuum, from which all of a person's individual timelines can be perceived. Rhombulus can generate crystals from his snake hands or eye, which can trap people and objects in crystal or be fired as crystal projectiles. He states that at their full strength, they are as hard as diamonds. Sammael is the only known Fallen to possess magic in addition to the Grimm based powers that come from his status as a Majesty Class Fallen.

It is known that he is immune to the darkness based powers wielded by Teen Titan Raven. He is also immortal through the power of a powerful artifact that can grant wishes so powerful they can alter reality.

"Everything is energy, whether it be science or sorcery. Either side presents limitless potential for both creation and destruction. This is has been shown countless times throughout history and throughout the known universe." TOM said as the file closed. "So if you have something that makes you able to do things other can't be careful about you use it. You never know what could come from whatever you do."

"Lousy zombie, trapping me here in this frozen time. Why hasn't Omni come along and freed me yet?!"

Hekapoo was not having a good day.

She was supposed to stop that insane portal from opening and causing more tears in the known multi-verse but instead she got stopped by a magical zombie magician.

A zombie of all things!

"When I get my hands on him I'll-"

"You'll do nothing, Hekapoo."

The Forger of the Dimension Scissors spun around facing a dark robed figure carrying a scythe… "Oh great. A specter of death. What are you doing here?"

"I should be asking you that." The Grim Reaper himself retorted, pointing a bony finger at Hekapoo. "You know the rules. You and the Magical High Commission have no say in how magic is handled or how people act here."

Hekapoo rolled her eyes. "The idiot's portal is up and running. I'm not letting it cause more trouble for my scissors and portal network."

"That is irrelevant, fire witch." Grim waved off her concern. "The High Commission is band from causing trouble here by order of the Spiral."

"They're not even here!" Hekapoo protested. "They don't even do anything for this stupid universe that's full of monsters and magic isn't even being regulated to a select few in positions of power!"

"Whatever they do is none of your concern." Grim stated. "Go back to your High Commission and stay there. We have no patience for your strange and foolish prejudice."

"Don't think you can order me-" Hekapoo started but Grim seemed to have enough of her attitude.

He slashed the ground with his scythe, creating a portal that formed underneath Hekapoo's feet. The Forger fell into the portal, screaming curses at Grim before the portal closed.

"Bureaucrats…" Grim sighed. "All the power in the universe and still it falls victim to the bureaucracy."

Still he had given her fair warning to not come causing trouble in this universe.

It had enough trouble without magical bureaucrats getting in the way.

"What just happened?"

"The forest, it came alive and surrounded us." Lowemon narrowed his eyes, looking around the dark forest him and Kazemon found themselves in.

When they had volunteered to help Major Glory and the Justice Friends in a rescue mission into the Darklands they knew things would be difficult. After all the Darklands were a nesting ground for Grimm and home to most of the Fallen that had appeared in the continent, including Sammael who happened to be the strongest of the Fallen and the one that Major Glory feared and hated. The two Legendary Warriors had encountered him once through a portal but sensed his powers, instantly knowing he was extremely dangerous compared to the few foes they had already encountered in this world. Still Major Glory took the time to explain to them that rescue mission was tied to the mission Valhallen and Krunk went on, rescuing the so-called Elementals and bringing them back to Earth.

Simple enough if not for the fact that the Fallen had just diverted the course of their return to the Darklands instead of GrimmFall. So Sebben had put together a team of the best heroes available to go in and save everyone before Sammael captured the Elementals. They knew it would be dangerous but volunteered to come along anyways. They could not stay cooped up in the Hall of Heroes forever and they already helped fend off one attack on the Hall from those machines.

It was time they joined the battlefield.

"Stay close. I have a feeling we're about to have company." Lowemon advised his partner.

"How right you are."

Both Legendary Warriors quickly prepared themselves for battle as their likely foe stepped out of the shadows with a grin.

It was a familiar foe.

"Monkey Fist." Lowemon narrowed his eyes while Kazemon grimaced.

The two had encountered Monkey Fist not long after they had arrived at Hall of Heroes. He had attempted to break into the Vault which holds dozens of artifacts collected by the Justice Friends through their years of fighting crime and Grimm. Major Glory along with most of the others had been called away to answer an earthquake, leaving Lowemon and Kazemon in the Hall when Monkey Fist broke in. The two fought him and they found him to be a formidable foe, even if it had been two against one.

In order to stall for time the two decided to fight him one on one after he convinced them that two against one was honorable and because the thought they could stall him long enough for the Justice Friends to return. However Monkey Fist defeated Lowemon first and then Kazemon lost not long after. Luckily Kazemon managed to use her wind powers to send Monkey Fist flying out of the Hall of Heroes, thwarting his attempt to steal the artifact he was looking for.

"You remember me. I'm flattered." Monkey Fist gestured to his chest. "Of course the feeling is mutual since you both got in my way last we met. Fortunately when Sammael suggested this little get together I saw this as an opportunity. If Sebben was putting together a team to enter the Darklands it would only have members strong and foolish enough to come here to save the Elementals without a second thought. I had hoped you two be among the volunteers."

"So you want revenge for us stopping you, huh?" Lowemon summoned his spear and shield. "It won't be easy. We're stronger than before and we don't plan on fighting you one on one this time."

"Stronger, huh?" Monkey Fist smirked. "So have I. And who said I was alone?"

A snarling sound was heard from all around them, alerting the two Legendary Warriors to the fact they might be surrounded.

"Did you think I would allow you both to get the drop on me again? We're not fighting in the Hall of Heroes this time. You're on my turf now." Monkey Fist then backed away, vanishing into the darkness.

Lowemon narrowed his eyes but remained calm. Even if they were in where Monkey Fist had the advantage he also had the advantage since as the Warrior of Darkness he was stronger at night or in places without light.

"Stay close." He said to Kazemon. "He might try to separate us."

As soon as he finished speaking Monkey Fist appeared in the sky and jumped down towards them. Lowemon quickly used his shield to block the double kick the Faunus based Fallen launched. Monkey Fist jumped back, vanishing back into the shadows.

"He's using the environment to his advantage." Kazemon realized as she and Lowemon stood back to back.

"So should we." Lowemon replied. "Aim for the trees."

Kazemon nodded, spreading her wings out and flew several feet in the air. "HURRICANE WAVE!"

A large twister by slammed into the trees, sending branches and leaves flying as the trees impacted the ground. As Kazemon landed back on the ground Lowemon looked around, spotting several flashes of orange light.

"FIST OF THE MONKEY KING!"

Not one but dozens of energy blasts shaped like fists shot out, all aimed directly at the two. Lowemon quickly used his shield to protect himself and Kazemon from the attacks. For the most part the fight was even as neither side had been able to injure the other. Monkey Fist used his Faunus reflexes that were already considerable without the use of his Fallen abilities to blend in with the darkness and stay out of sight while Lowemon and Kazemon relied on their teamwork to stay in the fight.

It was just a matter of who would slip up first.

Something lunged out of the darkness and Lowemon spun around, stabbing in the chest with his Shadow Lance. It turned out to be a Beringel, a Grimm that resembled an ape. The Beringel roared in agony before dying and fading into black smoke. More Beringel appeared in the trees and started throwing large rocks or giant pieces of wood at the two.

Kazemon grunted as she fired another Hurricane Wave to blast them back. Another rock was thrown at Lowemon and he slashed it in half with his lance…

Only for a black blur to leap from behind the rock and deliver a cutting slash to his shoulder.

"GAH!" Lowemon grunted, feeling the blade dig deep into shoulder before pulling out.

"Lowemon!" Kazemon spun around.

The Grimm in question was not a Beringel.

It was as tall and slim as a human, resembling a monkey only with wings and instead of having hands on its top arms they had scythes.

"Oh, I suppose you were never briefed on this particular Grimm. Don't be saddened; this is a brand new breed." Monkey Fist's voice echoed from all around the two. "Allow me to introduce my very own creation: the Scythe Simian. A little something to back up the more brutish Beringel."

The Scythe Simian somersaulted backwards, vanishing into the darkness.

"Are you all right?" Kazemon asked as she helped Lowemon back to his feet.

"Yeah but we're not doing so well for our first out door mission." Lowemon said, looking around.

No they were not.

Monkey Fist had obviously been planning out this ambush in detail, possibly since the last time they had encountered them. While Lowemon could get stronger in places of darkness he had to watch how much power he used or he might hurt his partner or any of the other heroes and children that were here. Two more dark blurs leapt out and Lowemon quickly blocked with his lance and shield, spotting the two Scythe Simians this time. Kazemon spotted a third flying at her from behind and dodged the slash aimed at her head before kicking it away.

"I had a bit of time to learn more about you and your kind since we last met." Monkey Fist said, landing on the ground a few feet away. "One thing I noticed is that you come in a variety of shapes and sizes and the same goes for your powers. They can be rather large when you put a lot of power and effort into them. Almost like dealing with a magic user but we all know it is anything but magic."

"SHADOW METEOR!"

"HURRICANE WAVE!"

Monkey Fist pulled out a sword, resembling a katana but the blade was made of a purplish black crystalline substance instead of metal. He hastily swung his sword and to the shock of Lowemon and Kazemon it cut through and absorbed their attacks before the blade shifted into a bo-staff.

"Remarkable, isn't it?" Monkey Fist asked, spinning his new staff in one hand. "How one can learn something about someone so fast, even during the first battle that lasted only a few minutes."

"How did you do that?" Lowemon asked, tightening his grip on his lance.

"Oh this." Monkey Fist held up his staff but the blade remained hidden. "Evidently Major Glory never told you about the many kinds of Dust, a powerful substance that can control and manipulate elemental energy that exists in this world. But I suppose even if he did I doubt you'd have been ready to face the effects of the Black Dust."

They had no idea that Black Dust was capable of absorbing any and all kinds of energy, whether it was Aura based or otherwise. The Black Dust easily absorbed the energy of their attacks, rendering them useless. However he couldn't utilize Aura when his weapon was in its sword form, revealing the Black Dust constructed blade and though his Fallen enhanced body allowed him to survive his Aura being drained he chose not to chance it against his two opponents. Unlike some of his fellow Fallen Monkey Fist did not enjoy playing with his food, rather quickly dominating them through his skills and cunning before landing the final blow.

So rather than waste anymore words Monkey Fish charged forward again, running at high speeds while the Scythe Simians fell back. He launched a dozen swipes at Lowemon who hastily blocked with his shield and lance, trying to hit back but the Faunus type Fallen was too agile. Kazemon tried to get the drop on him from behind but Monkey Fist surprised them both as he ducked under a swing from Lowemon and then grabbed onto the lance with one of his monkey feet. The momentum of Lowemon's swing yanked Monkey Fist off the ground, swinging him around and threw Lowemon off balance.

Monkey Fist landed back on the ground one leg while still holding the lance and pulled Lowemon off his feet, channeling his Semblance into his free leg and blasted right into the chest of the Warrior of Darkness as he was sent flying. He slammed into the ground hard but managed to sit back up. Just as he managed to stand back up his senses screamed at him and his shield shot up, blocking a slash from a Scythe Simian. He found himself attacked by three of the monkey based Grimm that came from all sides, forcing him back and away from his partner, causing him to realize this was all part of Monkey Fist's plan.

Lure them out into Darklands, separate them from their allies and then attack them with his Grimm while separating them to better pick them off.

'And we walked right into it.' The Warrior of Darkness thought harshly to himself.

Still he had no intention of being killed here so he fought back and he fought fiercely. The nearly complete lack of light made him stronger and he was able to better defend himself from the Scythe Simians, even as they used their flight and speed to fly circles around him.

Kazemon flew forward but Monkey Fist was still moving, somersaulting off the ground he did a handstand off her head and kicked her in the back.

This was almost too easy.

She slammed into the ground but rolled away and jumped back to her feet. Monkey Fist wasn't the strongest foe she and Lowemon had encountered nor was he the fastest but he made up for that by being remarkably agile and skilled, easily flowing in between their strikes and striking from angles they failed to see before it was too late. He easily defeated them one by one last time and this time he was using the Grimm and that strange weapon of his to throw them off balance. His unique Faunus nature made him completely unpredictable and he knew how to use it.

She was brought out of her musings as Monkey Fist's staff changed into a rifle that he aimed at her, pulling the trigger. Kazemon hastily dodged, firing another wind blast at Monkey Fist who took off running, moving around her in a circle and shoot at her. Kazemon hastily leapt off the ground and flew after him, easily catching up with him. Monkey Fist spun and jumped, his rifle changing back into its sword as he slashed at her. Kazemon hastily spun, the sword missing her face by mere inches and she delivered an elbow strike to the back of Monkey Fist's head.

He grunted as he felt the strike and tumbled down to the ground. His weapon changed back into a rifle and his Aura returned, allowing him to shake off the pain from Kazemon's strike. The Warrior of Wind noticed he hadn't had his Aura up but had no time to wonder as Monkey Fist aimed and fired again. However to her confusion he did not aim at her but hit the ground. As it turned out the shell was coated with Wind Dust and when it exploded it created a powerful gust that slammed into Kazemon before she could understand what had happened.

She was sent spinning high into the air but managed to stabilize herself with her wings. She looked down at Monkey Fist who was grinning in satisfaction. A snarling sound was heard and she looked at the surrounding trees and saw more Beringel on the branches, staring at her. So there were a lot more of them but she wasn't close enough for them to attack her and as long as she maintained a safe distance from them they wouldn't get her. She could blast them away with her wind attacks and still keep an eye on Monkey Fist on the ground.

That was her plan until a Beringel leapt at her…

And sprouted wings from its back.

"What?!" Kaezmon's eyes widened in shock and horror, not expecting the ape Grimm to actually sprout wings!

She tried to summon a Hurricane Wave but the Beringel was too fast, slamming into her and then slamming her into a giant tree.

"Kazemon!" Lowemon shouted from below, seeing his partner being attacked by winged Beringel as they leapt out of the trees and sprouted their wings.

"Oh what is this? Another surprise?" Monkey Fist asked, feigning shock. "I guess you never expected us Fallen to be able to alter the physiology of the Grimm. A handy little ability and one we like use as a surprise on very special occasions."

Lowemon let out a roar as he slashed though a Scythe Simian and aimed his chest armor up at the Beringel attacking Kazemon. "SHADOW METEOR!"

However Monkey Fist leapt up, switching his weapon back to its Black Dust sword and slashed through the large orb of dark energy. The Black Dust absorbed the energy as the blade cut through it. Monkey Fist then shifted it back into its staff form and swung it down on the Warrior of Darkness who hastily used his shield to block. Monkey Fist then halted his attack, instead choosing to land on the shield with his hands, performing a hand stand and somersaulted off of it, delivering a double kick to Lowemon's back.

Rather than turn around and fight his enemy Lowemon chose to run, leaping at a nearby tree and hastily climb it to reach Kazemon and help her.

"Not so fast." Monkey Fist said, his Semblance channeled into his feet as he jumped which propelled him up high and faster, allowing him to land directly in Lowemon's path. "There is no teamwork here today."

His weapon shifted into its rifle form as he aimed and pulled the trigger, firing a shell coated with Earth Dust. The shell exploded, creating a shell of rock over Lowemon's head and shoulders, causing the Warrior of Darkness to cry as he lost his grip and fell back to the ground. The shell shattered on impact, leaving Lowemon disorientated as Monkey Fist fell from above and both of his feet landed on the Lowemon's torso. Lowemon cried out and tried to slash Monkey Fist with his lance but the Faunus based Fallen leapt away.

In the meantime Kazemon was being overpowered as one Beringel grabbed her left arm and the other grabbed her right arm. She tried kicking but another grabbed her neck and the ape like Grimm carried her off into the dark forest, away from her partner. She struggled hard to break free but the Grimm were stronger than her and slammed her through several branches as the one holding her neck continued to choke her.

This couldn't be it for her.

She didn't want to die like this.

'Lowemon, Agunimon, everyone…I'm sorry.' Kazemon thought, believing this might be the end and hated herself for not being strong enough to win.

"RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Suddenly, as if hearing her thoughts a hulking mass slammed into the Beringel holding her neck. The Beringel and Kazemon started plummeting to the ground but a pair of arms caught Kazemon and helped her break free. She was pulled away from the Beringel Grimm as they crashed into the ground.

"You know if you missed us that badly you could have just tried calling."

Kazemon's eyes widened as she looked up at who caught her. "Valhallen…"

Krunk landed next to them, smiling while panting a bit. "Wind lady okay?"

"Krunk…." Kazemon shook her head. "Yeah, I'll live and I can still fight."

"Didn't say you couldn't." Valhallen said as he released Kazemon and helped her to her feet. "We need all the help we can get where we are."

"How'd you find me?" Kazemon asked.

"You still carry those ID cards we gave you?" Valhallen asked, smiling as Kazemon nodded. "They can be used as trackers when out in the field. Comes in handy when you need to find missing teammates. You and Lowemon were the closest."

Kazemon's eyes widened as the explanation. "Lowemon! He's back there with Monkey Fist!"

"And we'll go and help him." Valhallen said, placing a hand on the Warrior of Wind's shoulder to calm her down. "We don't leave teammates behind."

A snarling sound was heard as more winged Beringel appeared, surrounding the three.

"Even if we have to go through an entire army of Grimm." Valhallen said, aiming his Mighty Axe at the horde.

Krunk cracked his knuckles. "Krunk smash Grimm. Valhallen and Wind Lady go find Lion Man."

With that Krunk charged forward, clapping his hands and releasing a shockwave that blasted all the Grimm away.

"Come on. He's giving us our opening!" Valhallen said, hopping onto his guitar and shooting off into the air, followed closely by Kazemon. "Don't stray too far, Krunk!"

Krunk nodded as he smashed a Beringel into the ground. He might be tired but no one messed with Krunk's friends.
