The week goes by as everyone at UNIT sees Ace and Graham continue to grow closer and sneak off everyday for lunch. Though Ace and Graham have yet to admit that they like one another. On Friday as they walk back into temporary UNIT HQ Tegan first sees that Ace and Graham are walking as close as possible without touching. "My god you two just talk already."
"We talk," Ace stops for a second and knows this will cause more good hearted teasing, "everyday."
"Not about what is important."
"Everything Ace tells me is important," Graham scowls at Tegan.
"Ugh, that is not what I meant, Graham."
"Ok everyone, we have an update," Kate comes up behind Ace and Graham, "we have an update on the new building, someone convinced them to hire more workers so it will be done quicker than we thought."
"Wicked." Graham laughs at Ace saying that. Tegan rolls her eyes, looking forward to the day the two admit that they like each other.
"Ok you two stop flirting, there is little alien action today, and we can all take a look at what they have so far. It seems one of you," she looks directly at Ace, "knew some of the contractors and got them to put in secret panels."
"It helped out last time, it got me out and eventually I was in a volcano where I talked to a holographic version of the Professor and met this guy," she points to Graham.
Tegan wiggles her eyebrows, "the guy that you."
"Ok everyone we are heading out now," Kate interrupts Tegan. They all head out when everyone sees that it is literally next door to Ace's foundation.
"You sure you want it this close Ace," Yaz asks. "You know it may cause unwanted attention, when you will often have one visitor who works here, and then there is Tegan, Nyssa and Neeka."
"No one has noticed half of those things yet."
"Ace," Nyssa, who has joined everyone, starts to speak, "they have noticed Graham, but there isn't anything to say about the two of you yet." Nyssa who has seen the two of them together the most often and Ace blushes at that, "though seeing the two of you with red faces, I have a feeling that I won't be able to field questions for long?"
"Questions." Ace's eyes go wide.
"Come on you two, we may want to talk about this in the privacy of your own office." Nyssa walks away with Ace and Graham following her.
After they arrive in Ace's office, "what do you mean by fielding questions?"
"Sit down Ace, Graham." Ace and Graham listen to her, "for the past few weeks reporters have been calling me asking who the guy is that shows up everyday around lunchtime and sometimes stays until closing, and the two of you cars seem to be right next to each other. When whatever happens to the two of you is bound to happen, be careful where you kiss." Nyssa walks away.
"Are you ok with people trying to figure out who you are?"
"As long as you are ok with being seen with me."
"Why wouldn't I be ok with seeing you?"
"I don't know, I."
"You are Graham O'Brien," Ace stands up and starts to pace around the room, "former bus driver who hates seeing any type of injustice like I do, you care about everyone you meet, don't mind a little explosives here and there."
"Ace," Graham gets up and walks in front of her, "I was saying that, because I don't care who sees me when I am with you, as long as I am with you."
"Graham?"
"Yes?"
"What is going on between us? We talk everyday, sneak off to lunch, when I am here you show up and like Nyssa says sometimes spend the rest of the day, even if you are just sitting on the couch reading the newspaper while I am signing a bunch of documents."
"What I know is that I like you."
"I like you too." They look away from the other for a second then look up, both biting their bottom lip. "What others say is that it seems like we are already dating, do you think so too?"
He takes her hand both liking how perfect it feels, "I don't think what the others think matters. I know I am enjoying getting to know you, like how you sometimes twitch when people say Kane."
"The first alien that tried to kill me was named Kane."
"I know where you first met the Doctor and Mel. How you love to wear blue shoelaces."
"Only since I got back to earth."
"I already told you how I like when your voice changes when you talk to someone as Dorothy."
"Graham."
"Yes?"
"You are making me blush."
"I like it when I make you blush, giggle, laugh and smile."
"Ok stop it."
"Never," he brings her in a hug that Ace immediately relaxes into.
"Graham?"
Ace lifts her head from his chest, "yes."
"You know you are pretty great too."
"Eh."
"Not eh, how else do you think I started to fall for you so quickly."
"You have one of the biggest hearts."
Laughing, "Graham you don't have to continue trying to flirt, I already like you."
Brushing some hair out of her face, "I am not trying to flirt, I am just saying the truth. You, Dorothy McShane, have one of the biggest hearts. I am glad I am getting to know that heart."
"You are getting to be a part of that heart."
"I am glad, you are getting to be a part of mine too." Ace leans up, closes her eyes and so does Graham, but before their lips can touch someone rushes into her office.
"Aunt A," Neeka stops what she is saying as Ace and Graham slowly move away from each other.
"What's wrong Neeka?"
"I was just looking up some things and I know mum talked to you about Graham," Neeka looks at the man, "I am Neeka by the way."
"Nice to meet you," Neeka smiles, wishing she didn't come running into Ace's office.
"Neeks, why did you come running in and how did you know I was in here?"
"Other mum is here too, plus some others from UNIT, but they are not the reason why I am here. I was doing some research and an article popped up," Neeka shows it to Ace.
Ace scans it real quick, "they don't have your name yet, but they do have a full timeline starting from the day we met every time we are seen together."
"What is the headline?"
"Who is Dorothy McShane Dating?" Ace looks at Graham. "It was posted just a short while ago."
"So around the time."
"Yep." Neeka looks on.
"Am I the first one to know about the two of you?"
Ace looks to her surrogate niece, "you are."
"Cool, um, do you want to get ahead of this."
"Neeka Traken-Jovanka, this isn't something to get ahead of."
"I know, it's just that with this article, I have a feeling there will be people like reporters showing up everyday now, and with UNIT being next door."
"Neeka, if they figure out who Graham is, then they figure it out. If they haven't figured out that any of us, your mums, Graham and I have shown up in random parts of history, then what are they going to do?"
"Ok ok, I just care about you."
Ace hugs Neeka, "and I appreciate it, Graham and I can handle what they throw at us ok?"
"Ok?" Neeka walks out.
"I guess the moment is gone," she puts her hands in her pockets.
"Only a little, but I do need to go to the store to pick groceries for tomorrow night."
"So it's just the three of us?"
"Yep."
"Cool," Ace walks over to Graham, "can I bring desert?"
"Just yourself."
"I'll do that." She leans up and kisses his cheek and has her lips rest on his cheek.
