The Owl Sisters I: Sisters in Demon World Chapter 7-Lost in Language

It was another calm day in the Owl House. Luz was reading her Azura book to King and Lana was relaxing on the couch.

"Our paths have crossed only in battle but today I stand before you as an ally," Luz said as she sighed.

"Luz, you're getting all swoony again," King warned her.

"I can't help it, Azura is able to befriend everyone. Even her biggest rival. I wish I had that kind of power."

"Yeah, but you already got friends, sis. Me, Willow, Gus, King, Celestia, Sunset, and Eda," Lana told her.

"Rivals are meant to be annihilated, not befriended. Now keep reading," King was his tail happily. 'I've been sucked into your awful fandom."

"Okay," Luz prepared to read again. "Suddenly the door swung open."

Once she said that, the front door swung open.

"Ding, dong, ding. Hoot, hoot."

"The book has come to life! Burn it!"

Walking over, Lana saw that it was a basket.

"Eda, you got a package," Lana said as Luz carried into the kitchen to where Eda and Celestia were.

"Probably an offering. Ah! Being the strongest witch on the Isles has its perk," She said.

"If the perks are being the most wanted by the Emperor's Coven," Celestia rolled her eyes then King opened it and inside was a baby bat demon who was sleeping.

"Mm, fresh meat," King said.

"No, not eating that," Luz walked away with her hands up.

"Nope," Lana agreed.

"Eating babies is so 1693," Celestia said, then saw something. "What is this?"

"Look like a note," King held the paper that was attached to the basket. "Please take care of my child til morning. Yi Yi?"

"Nope! Babies are awful? Not happening…

"You will be handsomely rewarded. XOXO, Bat Queen?"

"Bat Queen? Reward?" Eda asked as her eyes shined at the coins in the basket.

"Who's the Bat Queen?" Luz asked.

"The wealthiest demon on the Isles. Get in touch with her, your set for life," Celestia said.

"All we have to do is watch the kid for the whole day, easy," Eda said.

"I don't know, Owl Lady, kids can be tough to handle…" Lana said to her.

"Our greatest adventure yet! Learning about love and life through the eyes of a child!" Luz cheered.

"Not you. You two have to return these books I checked out from the library," Eda said as she did a spell circle and tons of books fell on the twins. "Besides, I don't want those two to share the loot."

"Good call," King and Celestia nodded.

"I heard that!"

"Now, let's take a look at the little darling."

Eda pulled the blanket, once she did the baby let out a loud screech covering their ears.

"On second thought, maybe we could use your help."

"Sorry, dude. You're on your own. We have to get to the library!" Lana said then she and Luz headed out. "Don't share the loot, you pay the price."

"You know it!" Luz added as they fistbumped.

Few Hours, they were at the Bonesborugh Library.

Luz handed over Eda's books.

"Coffee, grass, and bloodstains? These are Eda's, aren't they?" the Librarian asked.

"Huh. That was a crazy night," Luz commented.

"I'll put them on her tab," the librarian said, sighing. "By the way, we're closing early for the Wailing Star meteor shower," he said, pointing to a picture of a star.

Luz looked at the picture and asked, "Oh, what is that?"

"You're in the library. Read a book," he replied nonchalantly as the scroll rolled up and disappeared.

"Vaya, gracias Capitán Obvio," Lana rolled her eyes.

"We're in the library. Let's read a book," said Luz, taking her brother's hand and running before the librarian could shush them.

They walked past a decimal number system demon. As Lucio passed by, Luz knelt down in front of the demon and put a lollipop in its mouth, making sure no one else saw her. "Bloop!" The demon chewed the gum before throwing up all of the notecards it had.

They entered the study area, where they saw one witch watching a HOW TO FLY video, another watching a piano-cat video, and a third stuck on the loading screen, with Internet noise coming from it, causing the witch to hit the crystal ball several times.

"Wow, this place is magical," said Luz, putting her hand on her cheek.

"Eh, a library is a library. It's just as boring with magic," said Lana with a shrug.

Luz likes books, but I don't! They're boring as hell!

Suddenly, a woman's voice was heard, "What do you think you're doing?"

"You have to be kidding me…" Lana recognizes the voice.

Luz gasped in fear, "We've been caught. Pretend to be a book," she stretched out her arms, trying to shape herself. Then they heard children's laughter.

"Wait a sec…"

The sisters went over to where the laughter was coming from and saw that it was the children's area. To their shock, they saw Amity and Mio reading a book to the children.

"Amity reading to kids?" Luz raised a brow.

"And she's smiling, like smiling with joy?" Lana was also intrigued.

Both moved to the graphic novel section and ducked behind a shelf to get a closer look as Amity continued to read.

"'Then we'll be your first,' Chicken Witch clucked. Otabin couldn't believe her luck. So Bookmaker Otabin, surrounded by her friends, weaved through the book of friendship, and that was it."

All the kids applauded her.

"Amity seems so nice and smiley," Luz said in surprise.

"Considering the fact that she almost tried to dissect us or literally tried to crush us with an abomination after kicking her sister's butt," Lana glared at her , but Luz ignored him and instead gasped. She had that look on her face; the one she got whenever she had an idea. "Oh, no," Lana said.

"Maybe I can befriend her like Azura befriended her rival."

"You're kidding, right?" She asked before they both ducked for cover and the children began to walk away.

"Thank you very much," Amity said as the children left, waving them goodbye.

"That's nice you like to read to the kids," Mio said to her, then noticed Luz and Lana. "What are you two doing here?"

"Oh, hey," Luz sheepishly smiles at them then Amity brings her scowl look.

"Ugh! You two," she said unhappily.

"Amity... Oops," Luz said as she got up, dropping the books. "Reading to kids. Wow. Looks like there's a sweet core hidden in that sour lemon slice."

"That's for extra credit," the witch quickly replied.

"Yeah, we kind of already figured out that you're the teacher's pet," Lana said sarcastically.

Amity frowned in response but remained silent. "Don't get your leggings in a bunch," she said, picking up the books Luz had dropped.

Then both of them went to the back of the room, but Luz followed , and Lana followed her, not wanting her to put up another fight.

"Hey, I could help with the kids. We could take turns reading. And do voices. I do the best monster voice ever," said Luz.

"Human!" shouted Amity, slamming her books against the table. "Do you see me going to the Owl Shack and pestering you while you roast owls?"

"Uh, it's called the Owl House. We don't fry owls. And for the sake of Owlbert we're not going to try!" Lana rebutted.

"Okay, I really don't know what you're doing there, but every time you and your stupid sister come near me, I get in trouble."

Then both Lana and Amity glared at each other but Mio and Luz stopped their sisters from doing anything.

"Thanks I need," Lana said to Luz. "Look, apple head, it was never our intention to make you look like a complete idiot! We want to be your friend."

"Well, I don't want to be your friend with either of you! Just leave us alone!" Amity growled.

"Fine, I can take a hint! I'm gone!" Lana left them.

"I'm sorry," Luz added then followed.

"So much for befriending rivals."

" ¡Esa chica testaruda que un toro negro!," Lana said.

"Are you going to let her get to you like that?"

They turned around and saw two teenagers about the same age as Lucio. They were a girl and a boy, but judging by their resemblance, most likely twins.

Both had dark green hair, golden eyes, and pale skin with a mole under one eye and black eyebrows. They also wore Illusion track uniforms, like Gus. The boy leaning against the bookcase had short hair. His sister, on the other hand, had longer hair braided into a voluminous braid that's darker underneath.

"Um, do we know you?" Lana asked, confused.

"No, we're just well-wishers on a mission," said the guy, putting his hand on his chest.

"A noble quest," the girl added, leaning toward Luz before pulling away.

"Watch. Hey, Mittens! Whiskers!" He called out to Amity and Mio who had their faces turned red at their nicknames anger and embarrassment.

"What did we say about calling by our nicknames, in public?" Mio asked them

The older boy picked up the bunny-shaped lunch bag. "Mom says stop forgetting your lunches. And stop being a jerk to your friends."

The green-haired girl walked over to them and snatched the bag from his hands, grunting. "Those aren't my friends." Upon hearing this, Luz looked down sadly, while Lana just frowned.

"Well, you have been a joy to get to know, either, Apple-hair."

"Shut up!"

"Wow, Apple hair. That's a good one," The boy puts an arm over Lana.

"Yeah, that makes sense. The two of them seem too cool for you, Mittens," she said with a smile.

"We are?" Luz and Lana said simultaneously.

"You can leave now!" Amity said irritably, gesturing for them to go. She left, making the older girl laugh a little before winking at Luz, causing her to blush.

Near the front, Luz and Lana continued chatting with their new acquaintances.

"So, you're the humans we've heard so much about."

"Yeah, that's us. And don't tell us, you're Amity and Mio's older siblings," Lana guessed.

"Wow, First guess. What gave it away?"

"One, you referred to someone as 'mom' when you gave them the lunch bags. Two, their nicknames are references to cats. And three, all four of you are kind of alike."

"You're smart. "I'm Emira, and this is Edric. We are the older siblings."

"You guys are a quartet, amazing!" Luz squealed quietly. "By the way, I'm Luz and this is my twin sister, Lana."

"Well, nice to meet you," Edric said, as Emira continued to speak. "We heard how you embarrassed her at school and at the witch meeting last week. No wonder she hates you both."

"I know," Luz spoke up. "But we didn't mean anything by it. I thought we were as tough as cucumbers, but we're as sour as pickles."

"What's a pickle?" Edric asked, easily distracted.

"By the way, we also heard more about you," Emira said, walking up to Lana.

"And what exactly is that?" Lana asked.

"Well, you not only embarrass Boscha but also punch her in the eye," she said with a smile, twirling around him.

"Well, she asked for it," Lana said, crossing her arms. "Maybe next time she'll watch her mouth."

Emira laughed at that. "Anyway, don't waste your time with Mittens. Ed and I are much more fun. Follow us," Emira said, grabbing Luz by the wrist, and Edric did the same with Lana. All four of them went somewhere, and Luz and Lana looked at each other.

First, Edric erased the "NON" part of the "NON-FICTION" sign before running to where the others were hiding. At that moment, a second librarian approached, leading a group of visitors.

"And here we come to our non-fiction section," he said, stopping abruptly when he saw the sign. "Fiction. Fiction! Our world is just fiction!? Then what in my life is real anymore?!" he cried, tears streaming down his face.

The next prank involved the first librarian, who was reading while arranging books on the shelves. When he put one on the shelf, Emira cast a spell, and the book began to glow blue before flying back to the shelf cart. This happened several times while they all laughed. Then, Edric switched places with the first librarian and stood on the ladder while the second librarian was on the ground. "What the-? No! Not again!" The second librarian burst into tears, and the first fell down the stairs.

The third thing they did concerned the demon decimal system. Edric picked up the dusty book, blew the dust off on the demon of the decimal system, and they all sneered, showering the circle with cards. All four burst out laughing and Luz danced.

"Hi!" They turned around to see Amity standing next to the first librarian, both with their arms crossed.

"Wait. Where's Gary?" the librarian asked.

"Incoming." Gary, the second librarian, ran up before breaking down when he saw the mess. "Noooo!"

They were shoved out of the library door for their jokes. "You made reading too much fun. Now stay away," the librarian said before slamming the door in front of them. All four stared at the door for a second before bursting into laughter.

"Now we really made their blood boil," Lana said.

Luz sighed. "Now Amity's even madder at me. I didn't think that was possible."

"Yeah, and when Mittens gets mad, she looks like this." Edric inhaled sharply, his face reddening as if he was angry, before exhaling and almost falling over. "Wow, I almost passed out."

"You're pretty funny," Emira said, crossing her arms, exchanging glances with her brother, and nodding. She leaned toward them. "Hey, we'll be back tonight. We forgot to check out one book. If you want, you can come with us."

Rumor has it that the Wailing Star is supposed to unlock some rare magical event. Are you in?"

"Sure," Luz turned to her brother. "Lana, do you want to come?"

"Oh, what the hell, I'm in."

"Great! We'll meet you here at midnight. See you, cuties," said Emira, winking at them.

"Bye! Sis, this is great. First, I befriend the siblings. Then, I befriend the Amity," Luz said with a squeal.

"At least they're cooler than her,," Lana added.

Both of them proceed to head back to Owl House without either knowing that Mio overheard her had watched them.

At the Owl House the twins walked in to see Eda cradling the baby bat demon.

"Aw, Eda, you look so motherly."

"Wow, look like Amity is not the ice queen with a soft side, didn't know you have a mother thing, too," Lana said with a smirk.

"Say those things about motherly stuff again and I will steal your tongues," Eda warned them.

"So how was the trip to the library?" Celestia asked them.

"I just had the best day. Cool teenagers like me. Call us library books because they were checking us out," Luz said.

Lana rolled her eyes. "Didn't the last person you had a crush on turn out to be a puppet?" he asked Luz.

Luz glared. "I never should've told you that."

"How is bat-sitting going?"

"Horrible, it keeps on screaming and crying," King snorted.

"That's babies for you," Lana giggled.

She poked him lightly on the cheek, and in doing so, he vomited another, smaller bat. Then, the new one vomited an even smaller bat, making everyone's jaw drop.

"¡Dulce Mierda Misericordiosa!" Both sisters screamed.

They all flew into the air, chirping, and soon one of the babies spewed fire, shooting it into the couch, making everyone run for cover.

"Okay, we'd better start going early!" said Lana, already outside.

"Yeah, parenting sure looks rewarding! Enjoy the lessons of life. Bye!" said Luz, closing the door behind her.

After a long walk, they returned to the library entrance waiting for them but it's already been about an hour and Lana's was getting tired of waiting.

"How long does it take for troublemakers to get here?" She grumbled.

"Depends if they did a few pranks on the way," Emira said.

"Well, are you ready to do it?" asked Edric, pointing to the doors.

"Yeah," said Lana, and Luz nodded her head with a happy smile. "Mhm! Mhm!" They all headed for the door.

"Wait, how do we get in?" Lana asked.

"Don't worry, we came prepared," said Edric, pulling out a piece of paper with some keys. "The signs say it's forbidden to enter, but I'm allergic to rules." He handed it to his twin sister.

"And dairy," Emira added, taking it.

Edric gave her a disgruntled look. "Wow, okay. Just expose me." The symbols and inscriptions on the paper glowed. Emira placed the paper in front of the lock, and in doing so, it burned to the ground.

"Wow!" said Luz and Lucio at the same time.

"Let's go," said Edric as they went inside. The entrance to the castle, which had been wide open, closed and shrunk. As expected, there was no one around.

"Standing in the dimly lit lobby. You guys know how to have fun," said Luz.

"Now what?" asked Lana to the twins.

"There! The Wailing Star!" said Edric, pointing to the stained glass window above the front door. They looked out the window at the Wailing Star sobbing as it passed by.

All three looked around for a few seconds, but they didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

"Hmm. Nothing happened," said Edric.

"What didn't happen?" Lucio asked Edric.

Immediately, all the books began to glow green. "Wait. These books are all glowy," said Luz, walking over to the closest book she could grab. "Wow, that's really cool..." The book she grabbed was called "Extinct Birds of the Boiling Isles". Upon opening it with a "whoosh!" from the pages, a whole flock of birds literally flew off the pages, coming alive, eating and cawing as they all flew through the air, to the great amazement of the group.

"Wow. The Wailing Star magicked the books to life," said Edric, as Luz put the book back on the shelf, and they grinned.

The whole group began to have fun exploring the various books the library had to offer.

He opened the comic book, and he and his twin were suddenly wearing fancy clothes when a peacock flew out of it.

Luz picked up a magazine called "Witch's Weekly Goods" and gained a cool new look, complete with a large sword strapped to her back. However, the sword proved too heavy, causing her to stumble. Lucio attempted to catch her, but he ended up falling under the weight himself. He never really thought about how heavy those swords actually were.

The four teenagers were reading a comic book, but when they opened it, there was nothing there. "Hey, there's nothing here," Lana said. As soon as he spoke, his words appeared above them in an actual word bubble, causing the sisters to gasp in surprise.

"Wow!" exclaimed the twins as they created more word bubbles. When Luz closed the comic, the bubbles burst.

The group then broke up and went their separate ways, waving their books under the title "Snowballs: A History." Luz watched as Edric moved around, looking for others to ambush. However, Luz ended up knocking him down, and he quickly retaliated when she moved out of the way. As she turned the corner, her face was pelted with snowballs thanks to Emira's surprise attack, causing everyone to laugh.

Upstairs, Luz saw Lana open his book to throw snowballs at her, but to his surprise, nothing happened. However, when he turned the book, the snowballs flew right into his face, causing him to fall down, and everyone laughed, including Lana himself.

The group continued to read their books until Luz and Lana discovered a book that Amity and Mio was reading to the kids.

"Guys, check it out," Luz said as the twins approached them. "Look what we discovered." In Emira's hands was a children's book called "Quacks Eat Snacks." When she opened it, a cute little duck popped out and circled around the floor with a quack.

"Aw, cute little quackster," Luz found it utterly adorable, but she didn't expect the twins to add anything. Edric drew human legs beneath the picture of the duck, causing the duck itself to gain legs and freak out about what was happening to it.

"Now, he's extra cute," said Emira, closing the book.

"Come on," said the girl, poking him with her elbow. "Now it's your turn."

"I don't know," said Luz uncertainty.

"Come on. Don't stop the fun," Edric encouraged her, handing her a pencil. She opened the book Amity was reading and immediately became more hesitant than ever. She loved books and respected them. Sighing, she replied, "I can't do that."

"Let me help," Edric said, grabbing her arm and forcing her to draw Otabin with an angry look and a claw. As he was about to leave, Luz slammed the book shut.

"I don't want to see it."

"Whatever. We didn't just come here to draw. Come on," Emira said, grabbing their arms and causing Luz to drop the book.

"Now what?" Lana asked as they walked somewhere.

"We have to make a little detour," Edric replied as the four of them walked into the romance section.

"So what exactly are we looking for?" Lana asked.

"Well, we'll need this to start with," Edric said, pulling out a book called "The Lone Witch and the Secret Room." A click sounded, and the shelf returned to the wall before sliding to the side, revealing the secret room.

"Wow, that's a good book," Luz said, surprised that it had happened. It wasn't dusty at all inside. Instead, it was pleasant, and clearly, someone had used the place often because there were cushions on the floor and a desk with a candle still lit.

"Your clubhouse is like my ultimate secret hideaway," Luz said as she stepped inside, and so did Lana.

"Nice hideout. Does it belong to any of you?" Lana asked

"We don't hang out in the library," said Edric, before giving an impression. "'Uh, teacher, I'm in love with the dictionary.'"

"'I'm studying the dork arts,'" Emira added, still joking. "This is both Amity and Mio's secret hideout."

"Hold the phone!? This is a twins' place!? What are we doing here?!" Lana asked both of them.

"Wait, then what are we doing here?" asked Lana with a frown, not liking where this was going.

"You see, Mittens is getting too full of herself," said Edric as he and his twin approached them.

"She keeps tattling on us when we cut class," Emira continued. "She needs to learn not to mess with people like that. So we're going to find her diary."

"And then hang the pages all over the school for everyone to see." Edric and Emira laughed.

This shocked Luz and Lana for very different reasons.

"What? Isn't that taking it too far?

"Yeah, that's too much! I know Amity is bad, but this is too much," said Luz, agreeing with her brother.

"No. See, we're her family," said Emira, walking over to them and putting her hands on their shoulders. "It's tough love. She needs to learn to lighten up like Mio," she finished as they walked away.

"Look, even Luz and I sometimes get at it with each other, we never go below the belt. Amity may not be the best person, but there are some lines you don't cross and this isn't one of them," Lana told them. "A diary is a sacred place. It'd be messed up as hell to publish it! Maybe we should…" Lana spots something unexpected.

"What is, sis…." Luz asked her then realized that Lana was looking at Luz shrieking with delight when she saw a row on the shelf labeled My Favorite Books. "Good Witch Azura books one through four!" She ran up to them, not believing her eyes.

"This place sells them too?!" Lana said as she grabbed a different book where Amity and Mio were dressed like Hecate. "Is this cover hand drawn?"

Out of curiosity, she opened the book to see some writing, and then a little Amity appeared on the pages.

"I saw those human girls again."

"Oh, man, it's the diary," Luz exclaimed.

"I may have overreacted. I don't wanna come off cruel. I know that they're trying to be nice. I just can't show weakness."

Then Lana closed it.

"Shit, we gotta hide this thing!"

"What have you got there?" They both turned around when they heard Edric's voice, and Luz hid the journal behind her. "Oh. Nothing. Just the Good Witch of Azura 5, where she's going through her goth phase." Luz responded quickly, as both were unaware that the book had slipped out of her hands. "Ah! No, wait!"

The twins didn't listen and opened it to show another mini-Amity. "It's not fair. I'm the only one who knows that Ed and Em aren't perfect. Why do they get away with everything?" she said.

"This is it..." the twins said in unison. They were glad to find what they were looking for before they got confused.

"You've been keeping this from us?" Emira was shocked to hear what they were doing. "You see how she treats people. And how she treats both of you."

"You have a solid point, you're right. She is a horrible person, but that mean you're no better than her. So put that diary back, now!" said Lana, taking the book and trying to snatch it out of their hands. Luz did the same.

"Let go!" Luz hummed, pulling. "She needs it!" Edric hummed along with his twin.

"It's for her own good!" objected to Emira, and finally, satiated, they managed to snatch the journal out of their hands.

"You say it's for her own good, but it's just for your amusement!" shouted Lucio as the pages lay on the floor. From the pages, many more of Amity's musings could be heard. "I wish I had somewhere to go." "Why won't the humans leave me alone?"

"Really?!"

All four of them turned around and saw the last person they really wanted to see was Mio who had her arms crossed with a glare in her eyes.

"Whiskers! What brings you here?" Edric asked nervously

"I overheard that you guys were coming back late at night. I should've known you two would try to pull something like this!" Mio shouted.

"Mio! It's not what it looks like. I can explain," Luz pleaded but quickly duck magic caused by Mio.

"Save it. You two are just as bad as the others!" Mio scolded her before running off with tears on her face.

"Mio, wait!" Lana and Luz went after leaving the other two.

"Well, that was fun. Want to do goblin tipping?"

"Heck yeah!"

Meanwhile…

"Mio, wait. We can talk about this!" Luz shouted as she and Lana caught up.

"First, you embarrass both of us. Then you wanted to be our friends! I don't get either of you."

"I swear we didn't know they only came here for your journal," Lana assured her.

Suddenly, they heard loud, heavy footsteps shaking the ground. They turned to see a terrifying sight: Otobin, Amity's favorite childhood character, now transformed into a monster with razor-sharp claws and teeth, hind legs, and a meaty tail.

"What in the hell?" Lana asked.

"Otabin?" Mio said, recognizing her beloved character. But something was wrong. Instead of the cute creature she remembered, it was now a demonized version of itself.

"With claws and fangs and broken bones, I found a friend to make it my own," the monster said, reciting a rhyme. The monster grabbed Mio and carried her away.

"I gotta save her!"

Lana rounded the corner to see Mio being sewn down to a book. Something was wrong about her though. Was her arm… two-dimensional?

"But friends are what I've always sought. And now a friend my claws have caught," the monster said.

"Hey!" Both Mio and Otabin turn around as they see Lana arrived with Dragon Threat in her hand and take a battle stance.

"Let her go!"

"Lana! You came for me!?"

"Hang on, tight! I'll get you out of this!"

"Making friends, taking friends, never being without my friends."

"How lazy are you? You rhyme friends with friends!"

Lana tried to slash Otobin but the monster caught the trident. Lana pushes him off and slides down his chest. Otobin's thick skin prevented him from being cut but he skids back from the force. Lana charges again, dodging Otobin's attacks. The monster tried to do an ax punch but Lana slid under him before leaping up to slash his back. Otobin cries out in pain then grabbed Lana and tosses her to a bookshelf. When she landed upside down, she was buried under a pile of books.

Lana emergers from the pile, as her trident glows in purple light.

"Feel the light!"

Lana placed a Light Glyph on Dragon Threat and blasted a beam of light on the monster blinding him then cut Mio's restraints freeing her from the pag. She falls down and Mio cried in surprise until Lana caught her. And to her embarrassment she's being held in a bridal manner which makes her blush.

"You okay?"

"Yeah… Can you put me down, I think I'm going to lose my lunch."

"Sure!" Lana let her down.

"Thanks, you're full of surprises."

"I get that a lot, total human thing."

Before the heartful banter can continue "Friends!" Otabin found them and began reeling, dragging the book across the shelf, bringing them closer and closer to him.

Trying to think of something, Lana tried to free her arm, and Mio spotted the nearest ladder and grabbed onto it. With her grip, the book stood up, and her legs closed around it, the ropes holding her arm loose, and she flew into the metal cart. "Lana!"

Otabin held the human girl in his arms again and continued to sew her. "You wriggle and struggle, but you scream and shout. But friendship always will win out." The monster rhymed, pulling at the strings connecting Lana's body in the book, all but her head. As he was about to do so, Amity drove up, using the cart, crashing it into Otabin, causing him to slide across the floor and hit the bookshelf, which soon fell on top of him.

.While he was down, Mio took the chance to pull the strings and free Lana's body. "Oh, Third Dimension, how I've missed you," she said cheerfully as Otabin removed the bookshelf from him.

"We must remain friends until the end. There's no tear I can't mend," said Otabin. But before he could do anything about it, the chain suddenly pulled out, locking his arms and legs in place.

"Not today, you bastard!" Mio said. "Lana! You have to fix this! Get him back to normal!" Otabin was beginning to free himself from his shackles. "Hurry up!"

Mio gasped. She pulled out a pencil and began to write in a large book. "Lana must right a wrong." As she wrote this, a large magic eraser fell into her hands. "Luz, here grab this!" Mio tossed it to her. Lana rushed forward and erased the drawing.

Instantly, Otabin returned to normal, caught by Lana, who let him go. Mio walked over to him and picked up the mouse. "I'm so sorry. I don't know what came over me," Otabin said in a squeaky voice.

"Hey, it's okay. We're still friends," The two nodded and closed the book, and Otabin disappeared. Then Lana sighed and fell to the floor with frayed nerves.

By morning…

"Well that was a crazy night. I think speaking for both of us I never want to deal with something like that ever again, " Lana exclaimed.

"This never happened, got it."

"You have my word. By the way, thanks for saving me."

"It's the least I can do."

"I'm sorry for my sister's actions. She really hasn't been the friendliest of people but she comes around to being friends."

"I can work with that. Later."

"Phew we had a night," Luz exclaimed as she and Lana were back at the Owl House.

They looked to see everyone was asleep on the green couch.

"Hoot, hoot!" Hooty slammed the door open

Immediately, something large squeezed through the opening. It was a much larger human head with bat-like features and long black hair.

"Who are you?" Lana asked, afraid it was going to eat them.

"I am the Bat Queen," said the demon, beginning to whistle and calling to her children, who woke up and flew happily into her hair. "Ah! Snuggle dumplings." The bat queen vomited a large, wooden chest that opened, exposing a whole bunch of gold coins before spitting out a skull-shaped whistle. "For troubles. Eda is owed one," she said before squirming out of the doorway and flying away. Luz closed the door.

"Ah, sweet babies," Eda mumbled in her sleep. The Owl Lady attempted to pull the baby bats closer, but she couldn't feel them in her arms. She opened her eyes and realized they were gone. "Babies? Where are the babies?" she asked, suddenly alert and searching for them with King.

Luz mimes the Bat Queen arriving and flying away with her children which made the three figure out much to their sadness.

"Damn, I just taught Junior how to pick locks," Eda said.

"Well, on the bright side, you made some serious dough," Lana said, showing them the sack of gold. "

And look at that cool whistle that the scary woman gave you. I'd wash it before you use it." Luz went over to Eda and handed her the whistle.

The Owl Lady picked it up and frowned, staring at it. "Yes, we did it all for the money."

"I miss my babies!" King sobbed, clinging to her.

"Knew this would happen, Luz got this from the library. Maybe it will help," she said, holding it out to Eda. The book was titled "How to Deal with Empty Nest Syndrome."

Eda grinned, taking the book.

"Thanks, kids. How did your night go?" Celestia asked

"Well, we broke into a library, with cool jerky teens, accidentally read some of Amity's diary and had to save Mio from a monster due to the Wailing Star's effect," Luz explained.

"You broke into a library and read a girl's diary. Kid, I am truly proud of you," Eda said.

"Of course, you would be," Celestia rolled her eyes.

The talking door opened and said, "Hey, do you want to hear about my night?"

"No!" shouted the five girls in unison.

"That's not what anyone ever wants!" said King.
