Chapter 2
Frost woke with a start. She was sore everywhere. She winced when she opened her left eye. She stood up, shaky. There were stains of blue blood on the ground.
"Is that.. mine?" She thought, shaky. "How long was I out?" Her head throbbed. Looking up, she found an ice wall. She walked up to it and looked at her reflection, she stared at herself in horror.
Her left shoulder was clawed and her underbelly had a gaping slash. Somehow, they were a tiny bit…sealed? She looked at her left eye. It was a bit swollen but the scars were sealed, a bit. There was also the golden horn bracelet on her left horn. She tried pulling it off, but somehow couldn't. It was almost like it was part of her horn. It hurt her when she tugged. She eventually gave up.
She heard shouts from outside. Limping out, she looked outside the dark narrow cave. There were a couple dragons flying through the air. She recognized their tribes, but nothing else, they were too far to be fully recognized. One was a Nightwing with a hint of green on her scales. Next to the Nightwing was a colorful Rainwing, with pink and yellow scales. She seemed.. familiar. Not far behind them was a green Seawing with a bracelet on his arm. Ahead of them, two dragons were bickering. A Sandwing and an Icewing. The Sandwing had golden scales and a scar on the bridge of his muzzle. He had an earring on his left ear. The Icewing had beautiful blue scales and a white underbelly. She couldn't hear what they were arguing about. Soon she was too dizzy to stand. She fell to the ground, only to hear wing beats get closer.
"Oh three moons, just shut up you stupid sandwing!" Winter cried out, rolling his eyes. He tried to fly farther away from Qibli. They were asked to find and hunt for food by Clay. Winter looked back. Moon smiled while Kinkajou laughed. Turtle chuckled a little while he flew. Winter only stared at Moon.
"Hey, Prince of Ice!"
Winter rolled his eyes and turned to look at the sandwing.
"Is that what I think it is?" Qibli asked, pointing forward.
Winter turned and looked to where Qibli was pointing. It was the large ice wall of the Ice Kingdom.
"Don't get too close." Winter warned. "We got to fly back."
"Wait," Moon said, flying next to them. She pointed toward the end of the wall near the forest they were hunting. There was an Icewing walking out of one of the caves. She was bruised and cut up along her silver scales. Winter stared at the Icewing.
"She's hurt." Turtle said softly.
Suddenly, the Icewing fell to the ground. Moon gasped.
"Winter," Kinkajou said, "go get her."
"Me?!" Winter exclaimed.
"Yes you. Only you can get near that wall." Kinkajou said.
Winter rolled his eyes and flew towards the cave.
"This is stupid, especially for the nephew of the queen." He thought. He landed beside the Icewing. She was about seven years old. She had cuts all over her left side. Besides the cuts on her face, she looked kind of.. beautiful. He shook his head and examined the cuts.
"Icewing cuts. About a year old." He thought, wincing. She was breathing, but how had she survived for this long?
She groaned, breathing heavily. Winter grabbed her wrists and dragged her out of the cave. He pulled her up onto his back and took off. When he got to the group, he looked at Moon.
"Oh, how horrible!" Moon exclaimed, staring at the Icewing in horror.
"Translation please." Winter sighed, trying to stay steady with the Icewing on his back.
Moon bit her lip. "Let's head back to Jade Mountain. The Dragonets might know how to help."
She turned around and flew south. The others followed. Winter groaned and followed.
Kinkajou flew up next to him, staring at the Icewing on his back.
"I don't believe it.." she whispered.
"What?" Winter asked, adjusting the Icewing so she wouldn't fall.
"I know her. Her name is Frost. She's one of the Dragonets of Destiny." Kinkajou went quiet for a minute. "She disappeared a year ago."
Winter glance back at the Icewing. Her soft silver scales reflected from the sun. Her blue icicles stood upright. Winter couldn't look away. The way her silver scales slowly turned blue along her back.
He saw Kinkajou fly ahead out of the corner of his eye. He looked away from the beautiful Icewing and flew after the others.
It had been awhile since Winter dropped off the Icewing in The Healing Center. Moon sat there, staring at the ground, Qibli sitting beside her. Kinkajou paced the floor saying, "what if she's dead?" Or "maybe we should check on her."
Turtle just sat silently, watching Kinkajou pace. Winter stood by the door, folding his wings back.
Suddenly, Clay burst through the hallway and walked past them all, running into The Healing Center. Winter watched with surprise as he saw the rest of his teachers follow Clay. Moon and Qibli stood up and followed as well. Kinkajou practically teleported after them, Turtle following close behind. Winter followed too.
"It's not like I care." He thought, coldly. But deep down, he felt like he should check on her.
"Frost!" Sunny cried, right after Winter walked in. He got through the crowd of dragons and found the Icewing, sitting upright on the bed. She had bandages across her left eye and on her left shoulder. She had one big bandage on her underbelly. She had tears of joy in her right eye.
"Sunny?" She croaked.
Sunny ran up beside Frost, nudging her with her head. Clay sat next to Frost too, placing his wing around her.
"I told you to be careful." He chuckled, tears of joy in his eyes as well.
"You knew where she went?!" Tsunami exclaimed, standing behind Clay.
Clay smirked up at her. "I.. might have."
Tsunami rolled her eyes and looked back at Frost, grinning. "Glad to see you're still alive."
Frost grinned back at her then looked around. "Where's Starflight and Glory?"
"Here." Starflight called out from behind Winter. Winter moved to the side as Starflight walked past him. Frost stared at his bandaged face.
"What happened?" Frost gasped.
Starflight shrugged. "Volcano incident."
Frost just stared at him.
"Glory's not here right now." Sunny said. "She's busy, taking care of the Rainwings and the Nightwings."
Frost looked at Sunny. "And the Nightwings?"
"It's a long story. You missed a lot." Clay chuckled.
"Where have you been?" Tsunami asked.
"Where did you get your injuries?" Sunny asked.
Starflight shushed them both. "Let her speak."
Frost chuckled, wincing a bit. "It's a long story."
Suddenly she noticed the other dragons in the room. Clay noticed and said, "They found you and brought you back."
She stared at Winter. Winter shifted on his talons.
"I carried you here." He muttered under his breath.
"And he did a good job carrying you and flying." Kinkajou smiled.
Frost turned her head and smiled. "Kinkajou, so it was you I saw flying."
Kinkajou smiled, bouncing on her talons. Winter rolled his eyes. Frost eyed Winter and glared at him. Winter held back a smile.
"And this is my winglet." Kinkajou continued. "The Seawing next to me is Turtle and the Sandwing over there is Qibli."
Turtle gave her a shy wave while the idiot sandwing smirked at her.
"And the Nightwing next to Qibli, is Moon."
Moon gave a shy wave as well.
"And that grumpy Icewing over there is Winter."
"I resent that." He grumbled. Frost gave a small chuckle.
"Well, it's nice to meet you all. Now, can anyone tell me where I am?" Frost asked, looking at Clay.
Clay eyed Winter and the others. "You guys better head to class."
Sunny stood up. "Follow me."
The others looked back at Frost then followed Sunny out. Winter was the last one out. He didn't look back, though he wished he did.
