(I know it seems like Lily is tired in every chapter but my thinking is that any 5 year old would be tired by 10pm at night)
13th April, 1912
Rose joined Cal for breakfast the following morning. "So, did you have an early night?" He asked. "Yes" she lied as she sipped her tea. "Why are you lying to me?" He said firmly "I'm not, dear?" She said nervously. "Well Lovejoy saw you kissing a gutter rat from 3rd class, which strongly suggests to me you did in fact not have an early night!" Cal yelled as he stood up and threw the table. "I- I…" Rose panicked. "I- I…" Cal mocked her as he slapped her. "You are my wife in practice, Rose! You do not go round kissing other men! Just be grateful it was only Lovejoy who saw! and if this ever happens again, it will be more than just a slap! You're not to see him again! Understand?!" Cal continued to yell. Rose nodded, tears in her eyes as she held her cheek. "Good" Cal said as he walked out of the room. She was grateful she was alone as she began to breakdown and cry.

Later that day
Jack was on the deck of the ship with Lily, Sam, Jenny and Oliver as he spotted Rose being given a tour by Mr Andrews along with Cal and Ruth. Jack smiled at her but was completely ignored. He was grateful Lily hadn't spotted Rose, knowing she would have been upset that Rose ignored them.
"Mr Andrews? Forgive me but there doesn't seem to be enough lifeboats on board for everyone?" Rose frowned, confused. Ruth glared at her, Rose's question was considered 'disrespectful' by Ruth's standards. "Oh not to worry Rose, you're on an unsinkable ship… we don't need as many lifeboats are normal" Mr Andrews insisted but Rose just nodded, not convinced.
"Sam, just watch Lily for a second please?" Jack said as he followed Rose before pulling her in to the gymnasium "hey, why did you ignore me?" He frowned confused "I can't see you again Jack" Rose sighed, trying to walk away. "Why?" Jack asked "how did you get that mark on your cheek?" He frowned and held her cheek, making her flinch. "Cal's manservant caught us kissing and told Cal… we had words this morning" she said "you can't live like this Rose. Today it was a slap, there's nothing to say that tomorrow won't be a punch. You're not safe. Please…" Jack begged "I'm fine Jack, I'll be fine. I'm sorry" she said as she walked away.
"Hi Rose" Lily smiled as she saw Rose and skipped over to Jack who had followed her "hello Lily" Rose smiled gently and walked away as Jack picked up Lily. "Is Rose OK daddy?" Lily frowned "yes darling" Jack lied and rested his head against Lily's as he sighed, knowing it was likely he wouldn't see or speak to Rose again.

That evening
Rose didn't dare leave dinner early that evening and instead waited for Cal to finish "I'm going to head for a brandy with the gentlemen, sweet pea" Cal said. It made Rose's skin crawl that he was acting as if that morning hadn't happened. "I'll walk you back first, so you don't go AWOL again" he raised an eyebrow. Rose nodded and stood up, after saying goodnight to her Mother, she was escorted back to her cabin by Cal.
—
Rose sat in the living area of her room, sighing as she thought of Jack. She spent almost 30 minutes trying to decide if leaving the cabin to find him was worth the risk, before coming to the conclusion that it was. She decided to dress down as much as possible and scraped her hair back in to a pony tail, in hopes it would make her less recognisable, before heading down to third class.
—
She sighed to herself as she went downstairs, disappointed that Jack was sat at a table looking sad, rather than dancing with Lily as he had been the previous 2 nights. She spotted Lily dancing away with Oliver, so assumed she was non the wiser about how sad Jack was.
"Hello" Rose smiled weakly as she stood by Jack, who looked up at her confused "mind if I join you?" She asked "of course not… I thought you couldn't see me again?" He replied "to hell with rules… but don't tell Mother or Cal I said that. I can only hope Lovejoy isn't watching me" she said as she looked around paranoid. Jack sighed "what are you going to do Rose? You can't live like this…" "That's why I'm here…" Rose said. Jack look at her confused and waited for her to continue "when the ship docks…" she paused "can I get off with you? I won't stay or tag along if you don't want me to, I'd just feel safer getting off with someone, Cal is less likely to cause a scene…" she sighed helplessly. Jack paused for a moment, looking at her surprised "of… of course you can…" he said "thank you" she gave a weak smile "and you can stay with us if you'd like, you don't have to go off on your own. Like I said, we're going to Chippewa Falls, so if you wanted to join us it's unlikely he'll find you…" Jack said as he placed his hand on top of Rose's "are you serious?" Rose asked "absolutely" Jack nodded. "Will Lily not mind?" Rose asked warily "Will Lily mind that the kind, pretty lady with the pretty dresses is coming to stay with us? I don't so" he chuckled "I'll ask her when she comes back over" he smiled "I'm not sure I'll be able to bring the dresses" she smirked "I'm sure she'll get over it" he chuckled. "Where is she?" Rose asked about Lily, not being able to see her anymore. "Over there, playing with Oliver" he pointed to the corner that his daughter was in. Rose nodded "don't ask her in front me. I don't want her to feel like she has to say yes" "OK" he nodded as they watched Lily run over.
Jack smiled and lifted Lily on to his knee. Lily smiled at him then Rose "hi Rose" she said, unaware Rose was in 3rd class "hello" Rose smiled at her. "Please can I have a drink daddy?" Lily asked "of course" Jack said as he went to stand up. "I'll go. What would you like?" Rose asked "water please" Lily replied and watched as she walked away.
"Lil's, I've got a question" Jack said "what?" Lily looked at him confused. "When we get off the ship and go to Wisconsin, would you mind if Rose came with us?" He asked "OK" Lily said, not much emotion. Jack frowned "are you sure?" "Yes" Lily nodded as Rose came back and put a glass of water beside her "thank you" Lily said "you're welcome" Rose smiled, unaware that Jack had just asked Lily.
Lily rubbed her eyes "I'm a bit tired, daddy" she said. Jack looked at his watch and his eyes widened "it's nearly 10pm. Where's your cardigan? We'll head back to the cabin in a minute" he asked "over there" Lily yawned and pointed to the corner she had just been in. "I'll go and get it, you wait here" he said as he placed Lily on the chair near Rose. "Rose?" Lily said "yes?" Rose smiled at her "are you going to take my daddy?" She said quietly "what?" Rose frowned, confused "Daddy said you're coming to live with us, are you going to take him away from me? Will he leave me like my mummy did?" She asked sadly. "What?!" Rose said surprised "of course not! Your Daddy loves you more than anything! Nothing could make him leave you, and I'd never expect him to sweetheart! You don't need to worry, I promise" Rose smiled gently at her. "Promise?" Lily made her reiterate "I promise" Rose said as she leant forward and stroked Lily's cheek, causing her to climb on her lap. "If you don't want me to come and stay with you and your daddy then that's OK" she looked down at her, forcing a fake smile "no, I want you to" Lily nodded as Jack walked back. "Got it" he said as he held up her cardigan and sat back down.
"Come on, let's get back to the room, you're about to fall asleep" he chuckled as he held his arms out for Lily. "See you the same time tomorrow?" Jack raised an eyebrow to Rose who nodded "of course" "take care" Jack smiled and kissed her cheek "you too" she smiled "see you tomorrow… bye Lily" she continued as she stroked Lily's cheek. "Bye Rose" Lily said sleepily.
—
Rose headed back to her state room, praying that no one had seen her and that hers and Jack's plan hadn't been heard, whilst Jack carried Lily back to their cabin, grateful that Rose would finally be getting out of her horrible situation…
