The three of them enter the lift for the two floors to the Runway offices, each feeling some form of trepidation. It covers the two floors far too quickly for their liking and they step out, turning towards Miranda's office.
Serena joins them along the way, slipping in beside them seamlessly. She eyes Andy curiously, even as she presses into her for a side hug as they continue walking. The Brazilian woman always seemed so laid back to Andy, and she is a comforting presence at her side. "Andy! Querida, how are you? It's been a while."
Emily glares at her wife for the affectionate term, but it's weak; they all missed Andy.
"Serena!" Andy returns the hold for a moment. "I've had more acceptable weeks, but it's better now, for seeing you. I take it we have all been 'summoned'?" She rolls her eyes at her own statement.
"It appears so." Serena replies as they move into Miranda's outer office. Taryn and Isabelle stand in an attempt to stop them but the quartet breeze past them as if they aren't there.
As they enter Miranda's office, she looks up at them, removing her glasses and tossing them on her desk as she does so. "Nigel, close the door."
Nigel complies and Miranda waits until he rejoins the other three standing before her desk. She eyes each one of them contemplatively, her gaze lingering on Andy for longer moments than the others, trailing from her feet, up over her tight-fitting black jeans and her form-fitting white button up, looking very much like the reporter she now is. Finally, she stands, indicating the seating off to the side.
"All of you, sit."
Before she joins them, she picks up her desk phone and dials.
"Revoke the ban on Andrèa Sachs, immediately. Make a permanent visitor's pass for her. That's all."
As she hangs up, she hears the security personnel stammer out. "Yes Ms Priestly, right away."
She moves away from her desk to join the four in her sitting area. "You will find…" She begins. "There is very little that goes on in this building that I do not know about."
She eyes them wearily, her morning discussions with other questioning Clan members already weighing on her. She absently notes, due to a shortage of seating, other than the three-seater sofa, Serena opted to lounge on the arm of the chair, her arm draped across Emily's shoulders, the woman having realised due to the directive to sit, that this is not related to Runway, so she can behave as someone familiar with Miranda's office as a Clan meeting space, instead of acting like a trembling employee.
Miranda makes a mental reminder to add another chair or two to this area, realizing her inner circle has now expanded by one. "I apologise, Andrèa, for my lack of forethought in lifting the ban prior to this. I should have done so when I was in the office on Saturday after advising you to seek out my colleagues."
She paces in front of the coffee table for long moments before turning to face them again, a small smirk creeping across her face momentarily at Emily's bewilderment to her apology. Andy's eyebrows also rose to her hairline at the statement, but chooses to maintain her silence for now. The Editor is resolute that she will not treat her Mate as another employee, even in front of others, be they employees, Clan members or both.
"Serena, I can see you are curious as to Andrèa's presence. In short order, the only thing you absolutely must know before I continue is that Andrèa and I have a child together and is, therefore, aware of us. If you absolutely must have further details, ask Emily or Nigel only. I have other matters I need to discuss at this moment and Nigel is on a time constraint."
Serena merely nods her acceptance of this, uttering a quick congratulations at them both.
Miranda clears her throat and continues."Thank you Serena. Now, I have received multiple calls this morning from those set to watch; the Others seem to be mobilizing. To what end, it is not obvious to other members of our Clan. I chose not to share anything regarding our daughter for now; it is in our best interests to keep it to ourselves as long as possible, to protect both Ciri and Andrèa. It appears the Prophecy has begun to come into effect, no doubt set in motion with Ciri's initial power burst and, while the Others may not be aware of what has come to pass, they are aware that something has, indeed, happened and are marshaling themselves. We must remain alert to anything out of the ordinary and I insist on being informed the moment you notice anything. While our spies are excellent at what they do, we all know how slippery the Others can be and I do not want any surprises."
All three of her dragons nod in agreement before Serena speaks up. "What of Ciri? I need to inform mi Mamita for the Annals. I will need her names; both of them," She eyes Miranda. "Her birthdate and parentage details. Well, not Miranda's but definitely yours, Andy."
Miranda sighs. "I have yet to discuss that with Andrèa. As for her human name…' She trails off and looks over at Andy and is surprised to see a blush creep across her face.
The reporter stumbles a little on the first word. "Cir… Cirilla Miryam Priestly Sachs." Somehow, she manages to turn even more red before muttering. "I never expected to be back in your life Miranda, and we both needed her to have something to connect her to you… Her other mother."
All of them could see her fighting her tears as they welled up.
Andy tries to clear her throat, feeling choked up. "The C name was to connect her to her sisters. I hoped that maybe, once she was old enough, you might accept her, even if you hated me for keeping her from you and wanted nothing to do with me. I honestly believed you wanted nothing to- to do with me after you left me that night. I didn't know what else to do." Andy swiped angrily at her eyes, hating how vulnerable she feels admitting this.
"Oh my…" Almost whispering, Miranda is speechless as she clutches at her necklace. She never expected Andrèa would want that permanent connection to her. The name and Andrèa's reaction spoke volumes about how she felt and Miranda listens closely to Andrèa's unspoken words.
Nigel wraps his arm around Andy in silent support as Serena lets out a soft laugh.
"It is perfect, Querida! I cannot wait to tell Mamita. She will adore it. She misses Miranda's Miriam years." Miranda snorts at the comment from the head of her beauty department. "Do you have a photo I might see?"
Andy nodded, happy for the distraction, getting out the photo she showed Nigel and Emily.
Serena takes the photo and looks at it intently. "Oh, yes," she smiles. "She is definitely Miranda's. Her name is a good, strong choice, Andy." She passes the photo back to Andy. "I would love to meet her. Children are wonderful, especially at that age. I miss my nieces and nephews being so tiny."
"I am having dinner with Six on Saturday if you ladies wish to join," He looks at both Serena and Emily before turning to Miranda. "That is, if it's ok with Miranda?"
Miranda is still reeling somewhat from Andrèa's revelation and the sound of her name pulls her attention back to the group. It takes a moment to run back over the conversation she was only half-listening to whilst being distracted.
"What? Oh. Yes, that is acceptable. Dinner at the townhouse. The girls are not at their father's this weekend and will enjoy seeing you all. I can discuss a second name with Andrèa between now and then. We will have the rest of the information for Janaína then, Serena."
Serena nods in acknowledgement.
"Miranda…" Nigel speaks up once more, trying to convey his intent to Miranda without actually saying it but is unable to catch her eye. "Not to be quarrelsome but the other thing needs to be completed too. Or all of this is for naught."
Miranda waves him off. "Yes, yes. All in good time, my friend. I will not rush that. Especially if it is unwelcome."
Nigel rolls his eyes. "Fine, but please do not leave it for long. We really cannot afford to wait much longer."
"Other thing?" Andy finally speaks up.
"Later, Andrèa." Miranda attempts to divert her too, in hope she might forget even as unlikely as it seems now.
Andy huffs. "Just how much later? I swear, Miranda… I am reaching my limits on not being given all the information, especially in regards to Ciri or myself. I am part of this, apparently, at least from what Cara or Nigel have inferred and I refuse to be pushed aside and left in the dark for much longer." She glares at Miranda.
Nigel stands, pulling Emily up and shooting a look at Serena. "I think that is our cue to leave. Miranda, we will inform you if we find anything out. Andy, fantastic to see you. I look forward to meeting Ciri on Saturday." The three scurry out, closing the door behind them.
"Damn that man." Miranda mutters as she watches Andrèa stand pace between her desk and the sofa. She steps into Andrèa's path and takes hold of her arms, forcing Andy to stop her pacing and look at Miranda. "Yes Andrèa, there is much we cannot say at the moment, though perhaps not as much as you think. You are not yet fully of my Clan, and you are still in your Time of learning. You, unlike those born of the Clan, must make the choice to become of the Clan or to remain as you are. Part of us through Ciri, but also not as well. This can only happen once you have completed this time. I have no doubt it will be soon as you are something of an information sponge, if I recall, given how quickly you learnt on the job." She smiles softly at Andy. "Once the choice is made, then we can speak of all we cannot at this time. I will try not to make it too trying for you in the meantime, by being as clear as possible in what we can and cannot tell you."
Andy bites her lip, and looks down at the floor as she thinks about that. "Like Nigel said, I guess." She sighs in reluctant acceptance. "It is frustrating Miranda but I will try to be patient." She looks back up into the Editor's eyes, unable to stop herself falling into them as she realises the other woman is looking at her with what she feels is some type of fondness.
Miranda's arms wrap around her, the Editor unable to stop herself either, as she pulls Andy closer. It breaks their eye contact, but as Andy's arms also come to wrap around Miranda, both of them are finding they are helpless against these actions and they settle into each other's arms, content to take what comfort they can from the other. Both of them silently marvel at just how right this feels.
Sometime later, they are unwillingly pried apart by an intruding assistant, Taryn knocks and pokes her head into the room. The assistant eyes them curiously before obviously deciding whatever she interrupted is not worth her job.
"Miranda, I have Patrick on the line, and Donatella requests a call back as soon as you can." She retreats to the outer office.
Miranda sighs. "Work calls, my darling, as pleasant as this interlude has been." Miranda sees a shiver run through Andrèa at her use of darling, and is curious. Apparently, even as frustrated as Andrèa is with the whole situation, all hope was not lost for the pair of them to pursue a relationship. The signs from Andrèa certainly point to that. "Did you bring your laptop, perhaps you can work from here?"
Andy shakes her head. "I didn't. I wasn't planning on staying for the day. In fact, I should probably get going."
Miranda dislikes this idea. She feels like Andrèa needs to be close. "Stay… Please? I will be finished at five and we could be home in time for dinner with the children."
Andy cannot help giving into that tone, and the obvious need for her to remain that is so clear in Miranda's eyes. She nods. "Ok. I'll go get you a coffee, pick up that pass and come back."
Miranda smiles at her, setting off butterflies in Andy's belly. Not now. She tells herself.
"I will get a laptop here in the meantime, can you access what you need with Wi-Fi?"
Andy nods as she heads for the door. "That would be great. Thanks Miranda. I'll be back soon."
"Oh Andrèa…" Miranda's soft voice halts her at the door. "You do remember how I like it, yes?" The half-smirk appears on her face, before her eyes dismiss Andy and she picks up the phone.
"Y-yes Miranda." Andy stumbles as she leaves. Is Miranda flirting with her?
Taryn being called in then given instructions to find Andrèa a spare laptop and to let her back into MIranda's inner office upon her return is the last thing she hears as she flees the outer office.
It is some hours later and Andy can see from her laptop clock that it is just after 4pm. She stretches her arms above her head, ready to be done now, but knowing Miranda still has almost an hour to go.
Suddenly, she drops her arms as a most disturbing, alarming feeling runs through her and she just knows it's something to do with Ciri. What the fuck?! She thinks as she flings the laptop to the side, standing in a rush as she looks over at Miranda, who has also stood, her chair sliding back towards the wall in her haste to get up.
"Ciri…" They both say to each other as they scramble towards the door.
"The girls…" Miranda grimaces, realising all three of her children are in danger. Miranda is firing orders at her assistant before she's even taken a step. "We are leaving. Taryn, get Roy out the front. NOW! Tell him to take Andrèa home."
"What?! Miranda! No." Andy tries to argue.
Miranda grabs her by the arm and pulls her past her assistants, not even asking for her coat and purse. She pulls Andy out into the hallway and to the nearest fire door, pointing upwards. "I have to go, Andrèa, and I cannot take you with me..." She cups Andy's face gently, looking intently at her. "Please trust me. I will find our daughters and I will bring them home."
Andy realises that Miranda means she will change and fly to their daughters. She scowls before putting her hand over Miranda's. "Fine, but please be safe and- and bring our kids home."
"I will." Miranda responds, brushing her lips over Andy's forehead and turns, bolting up the stairs two at a time. Andy watches her in awe, amazed that Miranda can do so while sporting 4" heels. She huffs before heading back through the fire door, collecting Miranda's things before heading down to meet Roy. Her stomach is churning and she feels utterly helpless.
