Calls and a mysterious message:
Tina, Rocket, and Orlins were at the radio station when they heard a loud Beep! Beep! on the consul. Pressing a button, an image of Steve Rogers appeared.
"What brings you here, Cap?" asked Tina.
"As you both may recall we were going over the list of people who you know. Two of them were Scott Lang and George Pym,"
"If you're gonna talk to everyone who died…" Rocket tried to stay.
"They're alive,"
They froze. "What?" breathed Tina.
"How can they be alive?" demanded Orlins. "That's impossible!"
"They were trapped in this subatomic universe called the Quantum Realm. For five years. Only it didn't feel like five years to them,"
"Hold up. I know where this is going," said the girl twin, hope flowing into her heart. "You're all planning to go back in time,"
"And get the stones," he said. "This is the chance we have to bring everyone back,". The trio were overjoyed with tears; they could bring their team back. "We need you all here. We all need to work together to find those stones and not mess with time. Once we use them, we bring them back to when they came from. And Tina, we're gonna need your help to build that machine,"
"If it means getting our family back then yes," she beamed. "We'll fetch Nebula and head to Earth as soon as possible,"
"Any sign of your brother?" she froze, anger consuming her again along with Rocket.
"We haven't heard from him if that's what you mean," said Rocket.
"Guys…" Steve sounded serious. "What's past is past. And now we can undo it. Don't make the same mistakes Tony and I did,"
"What could be more important than bringing the universe back?" Rocket asked. "Everyone we lost?"
"Um…finding Peter who we haven't heard for five years?" Orlins drifted off. "We have to find him. Once he sees that we can go back in time…"
"He'll try to go back and time and save Gamora, screwing up time itself," Tina fumed. "Another reason to avoid him,"
"Teen…" Steve pushed her buttons again. "You're letting your anger at your brother consume you. Don't let it destroy who you are,"
She scoffed. "Fine. But we look for him after this is over. I doubt he'd ever wanna be found anyway," she stormed off and Rocket followed behind her.
Orlins sighed. He looked again at the screen. "I feel we were wrong blaming Peter for all that happened. I was there when Strange said there was only one path to victory and I turned my back on him like Tina and Rocket. And it hurts me more that she is doing nothing to find him. What am I to do, Cap?"
"The only thing you can do is just wait till we accomplish our goal," he said. "And Valkyrie and Una will not give up on trying to find him. It's only a matter of time till we get a sign of where he is,"
On the coast of Norway was a small built town called Asgard. It was nothing compared to the once golden metropolis it was. All they lived in were shacks and houses and relied on fishing for the industry. They had lost so much. First their home. Then half their people. And still, after five years, their spirits were low and depressed.
Una, after helping with the fishing, went to a large manor house. She entered and inside was her husband Fandrall and their young son Orpheus, named after her late father. He looked like his father but had his mother's eyes. "Hey darling…" the little boy ran into her arms and Fandrall chuckled coming over to give her a kiss. "Is lessons progressing well?"
"Very much so," he said. He stared out the window. "We're gonna need to build a school to train all the kids. You think they should learn to fight?"
"Every Asgardian should," said his wife putting their boy down before he dashed off to play with his toy sword. She looked again outside the window and sighed. "We've lost so much. And it's been so depressing to have to lead our people after all they've lost, since we lost Heimdell, Thora," she blinked back tears. "And mum,"
Fandrall pursed his lips remembering their deceased queen, dear friend, and her beloved mother. They had hoped their marriage would bring comfort into their lives, but knowing so many loved ones weren't here with them only made their hearts more broken.
"I don't know how to be strong anymore," she confessed.
"We have to keep trying. It's what Thora would have wanted,"
"I think she'd be ashamed of how I've led our people. We're not the same as we were before. We've become nothing more than a settlement of fishers who have lost their noble ways of life,"
"No," Fandrall clasped her shoulder and kissed her head. "She would be proud of how you gave them a home, a chance to start anew," he turned her around so their wet eyes could meet. "I wish she was here with us, to see us marry, to see our son. But she would want us to be strong for the people,"
Una softly cried and he was pulled into her arms, allowing her to soak into his jacket.
George and Scott were busy organising parts for the time machine. Natasha was sorting out the wires without electrifying herself.
Steve just stood still staring at the communication consul sighing. Over the past five years Rocket and Tina's unforgiving nature who become worse and he couldn't stop imagining themselves and Peter as he and Tony beforehand.
"You're sure this Tina is gonna be able to help us build our bigger time machine?" asked George uncertainly.
"She's one of the best mechanics we know," said Natasha. "
Scott paused. "Wait a minute. Is she Tina Quill? The girl who went missing with her twin brother years ago from Missouri?". That earned George's attention too. When they were kids, they had heard rumours of two twins disappearing without a trace from the state of Missouri.
"That would be her," said Steve.
"How come they've been gone all this time?" George asked. "What made her stay away from home?"
"She won't talk about it," he answered. "Neither does she even wanna talk about her brother,"
Before more questions could be raised, Steve saw a loud beeping on the console. It was a red button.
"Another call?" Scott asked.
"No, it's a message," answered Steve. "But something's strange…" he typed on a computer but couldn't trace a signal. "I can't trace its source,"
"Think it could be Peter?" asked Natasha. "If it's him…"
"We better find out," Steve pressed the button and the message started playing.
"Avengers…" spoke a creepy voice. They froze; they couldn't recognise it. "Whoever out of you is listening, know this…we are allies in your goal to bring back half the universe,"
"How did they know…?" George asked only to be shushed by Scott.
"We know of your mission to go back in time and bring back the Stones to bring everyone back," The Avengers became tense; whoever these people were…they knew about them and had spied on them. "But that will not be enough to undo the Snap,"
"They're liars," said Scott. "They're just trying to scare us…"
"We are the Nameless Order and we pose no threat to the galaxy. Our captain is right now leading an expedition for the Light Stone, the seventh Infinity stone,". The Avengers felt their hearts drop like stone. "For the snap to work, you will this stone as well to undo everything. Only then can the universe be restored to what it was before. "Once my captain finds the stone, he intends to come to Earth and deliver it to you in safe hands. It is a long journey our fighters are taking but it is worth it as long as together with you all we can succeed. We wish you Avengers good luck and remember...do not see your past selves or do any damage to history,". Switch.
The message was deactivated and the four remained frozen.
"That is insane," said George. "These people are clearly spies,"
"We don't that for sure," said Steve.
"Well, how else did they know about our plan?" demanded Scott, getting riled up like George. "And why did they make this message untraceable?"
"Whatever reason they have for being secret it must be a good one," Steve said.
"Perhaps they're a space organisation like the Guardians,"
"And if it is true that there is a seventh Infinity stone, then we might need it. If they do come, whoever these people are, we won't give them the other stones. One of our own team will be doing the click,"
"You sure it is wise to trust these space fighter people?" Scott asked carefully.
"I don't," confessed Steve. "But we received this message for a reason…and if they stab us in the back, we'll kick em back,"
"Is there a way to find out if they're friends or not?" George asked.
"I think there is," Steve turned back again to the consul and pressed a button.
In the far outreaches of space, Colin had been soaring across the cosmos. He had searched for months for any knowledge regarding the Infinity Stones but had failed dejectedly. He landed on a space rock and sighed, his head falling against his palm. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a photo of himself, his twin, and their parents. They were young toddlers and Commodore Marvel and Captain Marvel looked happy and overjoyed. How he missed their big smiles.
Beep! Beep! His forearm com glowed gold and wiped his face, he activated it. Steve's face appeared in a flash of blue. "What do you want, Cap? You got anything for me?"
"I do," he said. "We received a message from an anonymous group of space fighters. They claim to have knowledge of a seventh infinity stone. The Light Stone. Heard of it?"
Colin thought for a second. "Nothing at all,"
"I need you to search the cosmos, search for any traces of any mysterious people looking for it. And I want you to spy on them because they may have spied on us, yet they admitted to knowing of our plan,"
"What plan?" he asked.
"Scott Lang and George Pym who were supposedly dead with George's family are alive. And they're planning a time heist to retrieve the stones,"
"And yet I guess this mysterious message you received says you need the seventh stone,"
"Exactly," he said. "They could be listening on us now with whatever they used to snoop on us. But I want you to find them,"
"You got it cap," saluted Colin. "If they turn out to be liars, I'll blast them with energy,"
"And I want you to try and find Peter Quill as well,"
"I will not risk my life for that man who destroyed half of all life," Colin shut the cap off and shot across the galaxy, beeping on his forearm screen to contact his sister.
It was night-time in New Asgard. Una had hummed a special Asgardian lullaby, swaying Orpheus to bed. Fandrall pulled the blanket over him and they took turns pecking his cheeks. They gently closed the door and were about to go to bed themselves when Korg came barging through the door. "Look what I got Una!"
"Shush!" Una hissed irritably, her husband pointing towards the door.
"Oh sorry," he apologised, remembering it was the four-year-old boy's bedtime.
"What's the big idea?" demanded Fandrall.
"We got a message from Captain America," Korg handed her screen. They went outside and after listening to the message with their friend and Valkyrie, they froze with revelation.
"So, they're planning to go back in time and find the stones," said Fandrall.
"And use them to undo everything and then return them back," said Una.
"And they received an anonymous tip from strange space people talking of a seventh stone," Valkyrie clarified. "And they seemed to know who we are,"
"What if Peter is with them?" Una asked.
"Peter?" Korg repeated. "Why would you think that?"
"Think about it. He's disappeared for five years and we've found no trace of him. And these people sent an untraceable message. Maybe they knew about us because he's with them. And they're trying to help us,"
"We can't be too sure," said Valkyrie with uncertainty. "But whoever they are, we need to know more about them,"
"And it seems that Steve has sent Colin to find them, yet he knows they could have overheard their conversation with whatever they used to spy on them,"
"Let us hope he is not rash with his actions," said Fandrall grimly.
"We should tell Jesse," said Korg. "When he gets Thora back, he'll be like: 'Yay! Horray! Let's get married!" they gave him blank looks. "What?"
"We don't know where he is," said Valkyrie. "Ever since Thora's death, he's been so mopey, cutting himself off from everyone. You think he's gonna talk to us,"
"Hold up," Una scrolled down the message further. "Cap's requesting, we find. He's already recruiting the Guardians and he says Jesse will be needed to help build the time machine,"
"Well then I'll guess we just have to pay him a visit," said Valkyrie.
"Where is he now?" asked Korg.
"We'll tell you tomorrow," Una yawned. "Right now, I just want to be sleeping with our boy,"
A whole day had passed and already Peter, his family and their family had travelled so far across the universe with a few more days to go.
"I never imagined we'd be going on a journey so long as nice," yawned Sylva. Peaceful music played in the background as she brushed her hair.
"The map wasn't lying when it said it was going to take us to the furthest reaches of the galaxy," said Tobey. "Which as you all know expands every day,"
"Very slowly Dad," reminded Leok, making them all laugh.
They heard ringing and pressed a button. Harvie's image appeared. "The message was received," she said. "The Avengers know of our mission and now they've sent a cosmic dude to search for us, to know more of who we are,"
"And yet they know we could be eavesdropping on their conversation," said Scylla.
"He probably wanted to assume that so that we'd find common ground of each other's intentions," said Tobey. Peter behind him, touched the blast mark of his ear. His daughter noticed and reached for his hand.
"Harvie, keep all tabs on anyone soaring around the galaxy,"
"Yes, Captain,"
"Scylla…you tell the other ships to be weary of who approaches our ships,"
"Got it," the badger sat back in her seat and began sending messages to the other ships too.
"You will need your sleep Harvie," bid Tobey. "Goodnight," the hologram switched off and the five departed to bed on some long bench beds.
Leok noticed Peter was still touching his burnt ear. "That guy they've sent to search for us…is that the same guy who blasted you?"
Peter nodded. He saw a dark colour paint his brother's face.
"If I see him hurt you again…"
"He's not worth it. The Avengers sent him to us for a good reason. I just have to keep hidden from him. If the Avengers know I'm with you all, they'll tell the Guardians and that would ruin everything,"
"Why don't we all just get some shut-eye?" insisted Scylla. "Enough talk about what's past. We must focus on what we're out here to do. And we will succeed. So long as we do it together. As a family,"
"What do you always say, Dad?" encouraged Sylwa, making the others glance at Peter whose heart lifted.
"Family sticks together," he remembered.
"Family sticks together," they all said. The two fathers made sure their children were comfortable after Scylla had puffed out their pillows. She had become a surrogate mother to them since they were young and they loved her deeply. They fell asleep as she stroked their heads much to their father's bliss.
Tobey activated autopilot mode and then walked over to his own bunk as Peter sat down on his own. But he winced as he reached for his chest. "You okay?" the elder brother asked.
"I'm fine," he winced. Tobey closed his eyes, feeling guilty that he couldn't take away all of Peter's physical pain.
"Tobes, you did everything you could to save me that day," he said. "I'll be alright as long as it doesn't activate,"
"Pete…" Tobes sat opposite him, twiddling his fingers. "There's no easy way to tell you this but…"
"I know what you're gonna say," said Pete. "And I already discussed it with Sylva,"
He hung his head. "Sometimes I often wonder why we have to suffer so much loss and try to live on with it,"
"I hate loss too. But sometimes it's better to feel that loss than not having felt that love from anyone. I don't know how I could ever bring Gamora without changing history. Otherwise, I never would have met you or Leok and Sylwa. I don't want to risk that,"
"Don't give up hope," Tobes tried to encourage him, lift his spirit again. "When we find the stone, we're bound to find more answers about them. If there's any chance you can have a life with the girl you love and still have all of us in it, that's a risk I'll take to make you happy,"
"I want to do the same for you as well,". Ever since he had met his half-brother who loved him unconditionally and protected him, Peter was so desperate to do anything to help him in return. "We'll figure it out. All of us together,"
The pair bid goodnight and the ship turned silent, disturbed only by the loud snores of Leok. Sylva had earphones in her ears so she didn't have to put up with him. Scylla's metal tail flickered in her sleep. Peter's sleep was calm and quiet compared to last night. But in his sleep, Tobey was tossing and turning.
A tall woman who loved him, held him tightly as a towering man in purple loomed over them.
"I will do as you wish," screamed the mother. "Just don't hurt him,"
"Oh, I'll keep him alive. And safe from the celestial who thought he could keep you safe from me,"
The young boy was with his only friends. Five animals. A walrus. A rabbit. A badger. An otter. And a racoon.
"Someday we're gonna go flying into the forever and beautiful sky," the racoon said. "Lylla. And Teefs. And Floor. And Scylla. And Tobey. And me…Rocket,"
"Rocket," cooed the little white rabbit with robotic parts.
"It really is good to have friends," said Lylla.
"You guys are more than friends. You're family to me," said Tobes. "Look what I made," he pulled out a picture of all of them in a rocket together.
"Is that us?" asked Teefs.
"It is," said Tobey. "One day that's gonna be us. And I promise you all I am not gonna let that let anything happen to you,"
"You promise?" young Rocket blinked his little eyes at him.
"Yes,"
Before young Tobey knew it, he was suddenly tackled with hugs and licks from all his friends. The large walrus rubbed him against his skin and all the furry animals licked his face and he laughed so much as he hugged them. Suddenly through the bars of their large hideout, the High Evolutionary appeared. With a gun.
"No!"
Tobey sat up breathing heavily. He wiped his forehead and sat off his deck bed. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the folded picture he had kept for years. The colours had faded but the joy of the little animals' faces was moving. He bent over a table and hung his head, crying and sniffling. His tears fell onto the paper staining it. He felt a hand. He spun around, grabbing his device from his belt and activating his light sabre, bright blue.
"Woah! Dad, it's me! Please don't slice me!" Leok jumped.
Tobey frozen. His son, brother and niece were in front of him.
"It's just us," Scylla approached carefully.
Tobey dropped his weapon and fell into his seat, petrified by his actions.
"Dad, what's wrong?" Leok tried to comfort him.
Tobey sniffled and wiped his face. "I'm fine. I'm fine. It's nothing," he walked away, unable for anyone to see him like this.
"Tobes," Peter tried to reach for him but he disappeared behind a wall.
Leok saw the picture and leaned over it. Scylla saw it too. She closed her eyes in tears remembering the day he had shown this to her and their only friends. "I should go to him," said the blue teen. He tried to follow his father but Scylla's tail lassoed his wrist.
"He needs some time alone," she said.
"Come on," Peter patted his back. "Let's get you guys back to bed. I'll stay up,". He tucked the children back into bed. His heart sank seeing Leok so upset. "All we can do is be there for him,"
"I've tried so hard to make him feel better for years. He's done so much for all of us, for everyone,"
"He has,"
"Is there nothing we can do to make the pain go away?"
"What he's going through is what I've been going for five years. Sometimes you just can't let go until you find a way to make peace with it,"
The teens drifted off to sleep and Peter remained up but Tobey would not come out from his hiding spot. He wanted to be away from them, to grieve for his past losses.
