ENZUK POV
Hi Guys! Enjoy. I have seen a few questions about my other stories. I'm revamping them. Some stories will take some time.
As I stood there, my breath formed a mist on the glass, obscuring my view of the human males wheeling Isabella away. I couldn't help but feel a twinge of irritation, although I couldn't quite pinpoint why. It was clear that Isabella was resisting being strapped down, yet her pleas for freedom fell on deaf ears.
I couldn't help but wonder what could possibly be wrong with her. Not that I cared for her safety. It was just unexpected. She had suddenly collapsed, and it was evident that she was struggling to breathe. Was this a normal occurrence? I had witnessed humans in states of panic before, but never to the extent of being completely paralyzed. At least, not without any apparent cause for it.
I paced back and forth in a state of anxiety, desperately trying to control my urge to shatter the glass of the cell. Why? I guessed it was just the intensity of the moment. The irregularity of her breathing and the alarming speed of her heart rate heightened my concern. A mixture of fear and sadness permeated the air, intensifying the tension in the room.
Why did she faint? Was that a normal reaction to what I had just revealed? All I did was speak the truth. She had come to warn me, and in return, I had given her a gentle caution. I had assumed she would appreciate the information, but evidently, it overwhelmed her.
A jolt of electricity surged through my body, causing me to emit a low growl in response to the painful sensation lingering around my neck. I directed a fierce glare toward the man known as Black, who believed he was shielded in his lofty, secluded office. He would be the first on my list of targets for retaliation.
Once again, he sent a jolt of electricity through my body, causing me to let out a fierce roar of anger. The intensity of my fury made me yearn to rip off the wretched collar that bound me and tear into his throat. However, I knew that if I were to unleash my attack, it would trigger a relentless onslaught from my fellow creatures, resulting in a devastating massacre.
Exercising immense self-control, I lowered my head in submission, catching a fleeting glimpse of Isabella as the humans swiftly wheeled her out of sight. Meanwhile, Black descended the stairs with an air of superiority, casually twirling the shock remote in his hand and wearing a smug smirk on his face. It baffled me how he could be so unconcerned about the well-being of Isabella. To avoid encountering his arrogance, I averted my gaze and bowed my head. I knew that if I were to meet his gaze and witness that haughty expression, all restraint would be lost. It went against my nature to submit to humans, and it required every ounce of my strength to bow my head and comply. Perhaps my compliance was motivated by my concern for Isabella, or more likely, my unwavering dedication to the mission.
Suddenly, he rapped on the glass door and flashed a smile. "Good boy," he said, his tone dripping with condescension. "To be honest, I think you're becoming quite well-trained. If you continue to behave, I might even allow you to see the little human again."
My eyes narrowed in response, a mixture of defiance and resentment brewing within me.
"Yeah, I'm aware that you have developed a little thing for her. I don't know what to call it, but it's quite disturbing, considering your twisted nature," he said, crouching down to meet my gaze. I emitted a low growl as he smirked down at me with a condescending expression. "Behave yourself now, or I might just have to harm Miss Swan. Surely, you wouldn't want that, would you?"
I snarled at him, baring my teeth in a warning. What made him think I cared? I was more concerned with ending his life.
He chuckled. "You know, before you arrived, she was a dedicated and focused scientist. But now, it's all about you. She seems to believe that we can all coexist peacefully." He shrugged nonchalantly. "But you and I know the truth, don't we? We understand that war is inevitable." He raised a vial in his hand. "And even though she lacks the heart to kill you, I certainly don't."
I glanced at the vial, my expression filled with contempt.
"Yes, you know what's coming. It's nothing personal," he laughed, "but I must admit, I'll take pleasure in witnessing your slow death. You and all those sick creatures. I'll strip every single scale off your body before severing that tail. It will make a fine addition to my collection."
I licked my lips, struggling to resist the overpowering urge to kill him.
"I can't decide what will cause you more pain. This serum... or watching me kill Isabella."
I let out a deep growl. Why did he have the desire to kill the female human? What had she done to provoke such animosity in him? She was one of them. And why did he believe it would affect me? I had to admit, she intrigued me, for a human, but I would never allow her to divert me from my mission.
"You see, in our land, it is considered treason to keep work hidden and withhold information from the government. Miss Swan has had this serum prepared for quite some time, yet she chose to keep it a secret. She lied to me, all for the sake of studying you. But why should we care about a creature that doesn't deserve to exist? This planet belongs to us, and I want you to know, before you meet your death, that Miss Swan will be right beside you in whatever pit I throw you into. I'll even go as far as urinating on your miserable bodies before setting them ablaze."
Humans. Despicable beings. How could he target her? She was innocent. Well. Not innocent. But a member of his own kind. How could he simply take her life?
"Black!"
I looked up to see the man who had previously attempted to claim Isabella. He had returned. Why? Shouldn't he be attending to Isabella? As a potential mate, that should be his utmost priority.
Black stood up. "Daren. How delightful of you to join us."
"What the hell are you doing? That's my serum, and it's not yet ready."
"Oh, I beg to differ. Your notes would suggest otherwise."
Daren lowered his head slightly. "My notes? Those are private."
Black swiftly pulled out a gun and aimed it at Daren. Daren instinctively raised his arms in defense. "Private? You and Miss Swan spend all day in that laboratory, while men sacrifice their lives to protect you. And now you dare claim it's a private matter?" He closed the gap between them and struck Daren with the pistol. "You despicable coward! You knew what she was up to, yet you lacked the courage to complete the task. You allowed a woman to dictate a war!"
Black grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and lifted him up. "Now, the only reason I won't shoot you right here and now is because I still need you."
Daren's intense gaze fell upon Black, blood trickling down the side of his head from the wound that Black had inflicted on him. His question hung in the air, "Where's Isabella?"
Black's response was cold and calculated, "She's been compromised. You, my friend, are the fortunate one. Out of the two of you, you've emerged victorious. You get to live. I assume you value your life, don't you, Son?"
Daren remained silent, his eyes cast downward for a prolonged moment before finally nodding in agreement.
"Good. Then here's what you're gunna do. You're gunna get yourself in that lab and produce a shit ton amount of this serum for me. And let me make it clear, if you dare to mess it up, your own flesh will be the first to pay the price. Understood?"
Daren nodded once again.
"Good. And I don't want to hear another word about Swan. She's a traitor to her own, and as far as I'm concerned, she can die with her new friends. Vince! Accompany him to the laboratory and ensure he remains there. I want this war to come to an end. I want enough of this serum to obliterate this bastard and his allies," Black glanced in my direction.
"Yes, Sir," Vince replied.
As they began to walk away, Vince hesitated. "Um...Sir. What about the other one? Dr. Swan. Should I assign a few men to guard her door? It's our usual protocol-"
"Did you not hear me? I don't want to hear another word about her. From this moment onward, she is no longer a priority. Who knows, maybe she can be used as bait. She is expendable. Focus all your efforts on guarding Daren. Hopefully, he possesses more sense than his partner."
"Yes, Sir," Vince responded with lowered eyes before motioning for Daren to proceed.
Daren raised his head defiantly and spat out some blood. "Lieutenant Black!" he shouted.
Black paused, turning back with an air of arrogance and pride. "What is it, Son?"
"If you want me to produce more of that serum, you must provide protection for Isabella. Otherwise, I won't lift a finger."
I glanced between the two men with keen interest.
"Pardon me, boy?"
He straightened himself, even though he was clearly in pain. "You heard me. You admitted it yourself; you need me. Because if I don't create more of that substance, I might die, but you'll go down with me."
I had a feeling that he genuinely cared for the female human. He obviously wasn't a fighter, but perhaps this was his way of ensuring her safety. It wasn't a decision I would have made, but then again, I wasn't her mate.
Black burst into laughter. "Are you kidding me? What is this, a love fest? Can't anyone see that we're in the midst of a war?"
Daren stood tall, raising his head and clenching his fists. "Yes, I do see that," he replied. "And if you want me to continue working, then you'll assign guards to protect Isabella. Station them outside her door."
Black scoffed. "Well, well, look who's trying to be a man. If you cared so much about her, you shouldn't have let her control you. You should have taken charge and prevented her from playing scientist during a war."
"I am taking charge now," Daren asserted. "And I'm telling you, if you want my help, you'll protect Isabella. Otherwise, I won't lift a finger. And you know what will happen then? You'll lose. I don't care if I go down with you. Use me as bait. Do whatever you want. But if you expect me to save your ass, you will protect Isabella."
Black chewed on his bottom lip, then spat on the ground. He laughed cynically before nodding once. "Fine. Vince, station two men outside Swan's medical room. But make sure she stays there. I don't want her in the lab or distracting Daren from his work."
"Yes, Sir," Vince acknowledged.
Black kicked the heavy glass of my cell. "Just a little longer, and you'll be dead. Just as soon as I inject this into you." He smiled. "I can't wait."
I snarled at him. I couldn't allow him to test that serum on me. I needed to send a signal to my people. The attack had been postponed as much as possible, but now time was up. I could no longer postpone my crucial mission any longer. While I had confidence that Isabella's latest serum wouldn't be lethal, there was a possibility that it could potentially diminish my strength. The uncertainty of how long it would take for me to fully recover and regain my full power weighed heavily on my mind. I wanted my full strength for the attack.
Isabella had foolishly come to warn me, which was a reckless move on her part. Just like Black had said, we were well aware that this was war. And in war, there was no room for hesitation. It was a matter of kill or be killed.
And now, it was my turn to take action and eliminate the threat. It was my turn to kill.
Please read and review. We are now approaching the climax and I would appreciate your feedback or questions. I am intrigued and would like to know what individuals anticipate Edward's actions will be upon reuniting with Isabella. Your insights and thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated and just fun to read. Thank you in advance!
