Jason caught up with Kellie and Alyssa, but kept his distance. He went and stood by Dev.
"I didn't mean to intrude," Dev said to Jason, "I didn't get to give Kellie my condolences at the funeral. I was hoping for moment maybe when you all were leaving. Mr. Scott was great at making sure I could stay with Sonny legally."
"It's okay," Jason said, "I'm glad you were able to catch Alyssa."
"I didn't think she was supposed to be off on her own," Dev said.
"Mateo is still here if you want to go see him," Jason said, "Kellie made sure to bring lots of supplies to make smores."
"Smores at a cemetery?" Dev asked.
"When Kellie's husband Tyler was alive, they did backyard campouts with the kids in California," Jason said, "The smores were how the kids wanted to honor their Dad and Grandpa Charles today."
"Mr. Scott doesn't striking me as the camping sort," Dev said.
"No, their camping was limited to the back yard," Jason said.
"I'll go have that smore," Dev said, walking away.
Meanwhile, Alyssa looked around, unsure of everything.
"It's really confusing right now isn't it?" Kellie said.
Alyssa nodded.
"You don't have to decide anything right now," Kellie said, "or even tomorrow or the next day."
"Or even like the next year?" Alyssa asked.
"That too," Kellie said, "You take as long you need to figure things out. Families aren't always easy and sometimes people become part of our family in ways we don't expect. It takes a while to figure out what that means, what they mean to us."
"Is it kind of like Nana Olivia isn't really your mom, but you sometimes call her mom," Alyssa asked.
"Yeah," Kellie said, "It would kind of slip out kind of like what just happened with you just now with Jason. Eventually, Nana Olivia and I had a conversation about that and we decided that it okay for me to call her mom. I go back and forth between calling her mom and Olivia. Whatever's comfortable in the moment."
"You're still figuring it out too," Alyssa said.
"Probably," Kellie said.
Alyssa looked like she was contemplating when Jason finally approached them.
"Is everything all right over here?" Jason asked.
Alyssa looked nervously at Kellie and at Jason.
"It's been a really long day, hasn't it?" Jason said, "With the funeral to say goodbye to your Grandpa Charles. I bet you've missed your dad a lot more lately."
"I miss him a lot," Alyssa said, "I just wanted Max to have smores with us. He's dad's cousin and…."
"Max is going to have smores," Jason said, "but I want to make sure you're okay. I was hoping we could talk about what else you said, what you called me?"
"I don't think I'm ready to talk about it," Alyssa said, "I didn't even know I was going to say that. Mommy said I didn't have to figure anything out right now."
"Your mom is absolutely right," Jason said, "We don't have to talk about it unless you want to. I just wanted to tell you that your dad was really special and no one could ever replace him. He loved you and your brothers a lot. That's not something anyone can ever take away from you. But I also hope you understand that sometimes you might still need someone to do things he'd want to do for you if he was here. I hope you know that I care about you, Jared, and Jamie as much as I do Danny, Jake, and Kelsey. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for them that I wouldn't do for you."
"I think I kind of already knew that," Alyssa said softly.
"However, whatever relationship you want to you have with me is entirely up to you," Jason said, "If you felt like you saw me as an additional father figure and decided you wanted to call me something that reflects that, I'd be very honored. But that is an entirely your decision."
Alyssa thought for a moment.
"I need time to think about it," Alyssa said, confidently, and then a little less confidently, "Is that okay?"
"It's more than okay," Jason said.
"Can I go have smores now?" Alyssa said.
"I think Max was putting one together for you," Jason said.
"Let's go," Alyssa said, grabbing Jason's hand.
Kellie, Jason, and Alyssa rejoined the rest of the group.
Alyssa sat next to Jason and Max handed her a smore. Kellie went and sat between Jamie and Jared.
"Is Alyssa okay?" Jared asked.
"She will be," Kellie said, "Right now I want know how you two are doing."
"Because of Grandpa or because Alyssa just called Jason well Dad," Jamie asked.
"All of it," Kellie said.
"Is Alyssa going call to Jason dad or something like that?" Jared asked.
"She doesn't know yet," Kellie said, "I think she misses your dad a lot right now, especially now that your Grandpa is gone and…"
"She was really young when dad died," Jared said, "And Jason is the closest thing we've had to a dad since Dad died."
"If Alyssa calls Jason, Daddy Jason," Jamie asked, "Does that mean we have to?"
Kellie shook her head.
"No," Kellie said, "Each of you are going to have your own relationship with Jason and it'll look different for all of you. Just because Alyssa might feel that away about Jason, doesn't mean you necessarily will."
Kellie didn't say anything further and neither did Jared and Jamie. Kellie watched as Kelsey toddled over to Jason and plopped on his lap.
"Mom," Jamie said, "Mom…we noticed you didn't have a smore yet."
Kellie turned to her attention to Jamie who handed her a smore.
"Thanks, kiddo," Kellie said.
"Mom, we're almost teenagers," Jamie groaned.
"You're always going to be kids to me," Kellie said, noticing Jared looking intently at Charles and Tyler's graves each with a smore. She noticed Jamie look as well. The two boys looked at each other than at her.
"I think we're short a smore on the graves," Jared said.
"What do you mean?" Kellie asked.
"Shouldn't we leave one for our older brother or sister, the one you put the angel ornament on the tree at Christmas for?" Jamie replied.
Kellie's breathe hitched.
"You're right," Kellie said, "We can put out another smore out if you want."
"What happened to her or him?" Jared asked, "What were they like?"
"I had a miscarriage," Kellie said, "And the baby didn't survive and hadn't really grown enough to have a personality."
"Did you and Dad have a grave for them?" Jamie asked as he and Jamie grabbed more smore supplies to put the smore together.
"No," Kellie said, "It wasn't an option at the time."
"How come?" Jared asked.
"The miscarriage happened under really tragic circumstances," Kellie said.
"Is this one of those adult things you won't to talk to us about?" Jamie asked.
Kellie nodded, "Look, what I can tell you is I think your sibling might have been a girl. There couple of hospital visits where I was under anesthesia or out of it fighting a really nasty infection, I could swear I talked to her."
"That definitely happened," Jamie said.
"You're one of most practical people we know, Mom," Jared said, "You wouldn't make it up, so it happened. Does our sister have a name?
"Erin Adela," Kellie replied.
"That's really pretty," Alyssa said, "Did you and Dad pick it?"
"No," Kellie said, "It's what she told me it was."
"You want to put the top on, Alyssa?" Jamie asked, holding out a partially built smore and another graham cracker.
Alyssa nodded and stood up, "Kelsey, come on, you can put the graham crackers on our sister's smore with me."
Kelsey grabbed Alyssa's hand. Kelsey didn't quite understand but followed Alyssa over to Jamie and Jared where they put the final graham cracker on.
The kids decided to put the smore between Charles's and Tyler's graves. Kellie unsuccessfully tried to keep tears from coming as Sage moved next to Kellie.
"There's no holding those tears back," Sage said, "Not after what might be the sweetest graveside send-off I've ever seen."
Sage hugged Kellie as the kids talked with each other about all the things Erin would get to do with Charles and Tyler now that they were all together.
There was another round of smore and more memories discussed until the group naturally began to disband. Starting with Kelsey and Rafael, starting to doze off.
Milo and Sage left first with their family as Johnny and Francis rounded up Kellie and Jason's kids to head to the cars.
Dev approached Kellie.
"I just really wanted to say I'm sorry about Charles," Dev said, "I'm glad that I got to meet him and that he was able to come up with a better plan for me to stay in the country. I didn't get a chance to say that at the funeral."
"Thank you," Kellie said, "And for heading Alyssa off."
"I hope she'll be okay," Dev said, "I should be going. But if there's anything I can do…."
Kellie nodded and Dev left.
"Francis is taking the kids home," Jason said to, "We can leave whenever you're ready."
"I don't think I'll need long," Kellie said.
"I won't be far," Jason said, kissing Kellie's forehead before leaving to give Kellie a moment.
Kellie stood in silence looking at the two graves with the three smores.
"I don't know what else is left to say today," Kellie finally said, "You all changed my life in all the best ways."
Kellie didn't say anything more and just let the silence fill the air.
After several moments, Kellie took a deep breathe and started to leave.
She turned back to look one last time at the graves with the smores.
"I love you, all of you," Kellie said softly.
Several moments later, Kellie walked slowly out of the cemetery.
