"Mama, where's Papa?" Hana asked, after five days of not seeing Kakashi.
"He's on a mission, don't you remember? He said goodbye to you."
"When is he coming back?"
"I don't know." Sakura answered, solemnly. Since the day that Kakashi took her out to lunch, he began taking her out to lunch. And somehow she miss the carefree conversations with him. The ring he gave her is in her drawer, waiting for her to wear it.
A rapid knock came to her door that made her rush to open it. When she did a bloody Kakashi welcomed her sight.
"Where's Hana?" He whispered.
Sakura blocked the door with her body and looked at the questioning stare of her daughter.
"Hana, go to your room." Sakura ordered. "Lock the door, and don't open it whatever you hear. Got me?" Sakura watched Hana nod and waited for her to close the door.
When she deemed that the girl will not open the door until she tells her so. She opened her front door again, and found that Kakashi is clutching his side.
"Come here," Sakura ushered him to her sofa, not caring if he spills blood on her white couch. When she got him seated, she made him let go of his side. But he won't budge. "Kakashi, let me see!" she said in gritted teeth.
Sakura tried to gently pry Kakashi's hand away from his side, but he winced in pain as she touched the wound. Blood stained his clothing and fingers, making it difficult to assess the injury.
"Kakashi, you need to let me see the wound. I can't help you if I don't know how bad it is," Sakura urged, concern etched across her face.
Reluctantly, Kakashi removed his hand, revealing a deep gash along his side. It was bleeding steadily, and Sakura could see that it required immediate attention. She rushed to grab her medical supplies, which she always kept on hand for situations like these.
"Why didn't you go to the hospital? I don't have much supplies here." Sakura admonish the man.
"I don't go to the hospital; you perfectly know that."
"So, you'll just bleed all over Konoha? Because you can't bring yourself to get a proper medical attention?" She cried out. Not caring if anyone heard her.
She ripped his mask off his face as she wants to see his palor. And Kakashi was too weak to protest, its a miracle that he was able to come to her apartment at his state.
Sakura flinched at the ashy palor that Kakashi sported. She rummaged through her kit and pulled out a blood red pill. She forced the pill in Kakashi's mouth. And had him drink a glass of water. She saw how he shudder at the taste.
"That's a blood replenishing pill. I would rather you get you have a blood transfusion, but as it is I don't have any choice."
Sakura's hands moved quickly and skillfully as she worked on cleaning and dressing Kakashi's wound. She could feel the tension in the room, a mix of concern and frustration. Despite her annoyance at Kakashi's reluctance to seek proper medical attention, she couldn't help but worry about his well-being.
As she continued to tend to his wound, she said, "You're lucky it's not a deeper cut. Still, you've lost a significant amount of blood. You need to rest and recover. I can patch you up for now, but you should consider going to the hospital after this."
Kakashi nodded weakly, realizing the gravity of the situation. "I'll go, Sakura. Thanks for helping me," he murmured, his voice strained.
When Sakura finished tending to his wound, she looked up to the jonin, and with tears in her eyes. "Are you try to get yourself killed, Kakashi?" She asked. "This is the exact reason why I don't want to take another chance with you! You always promise me that you'll take care, but you always break it, you always go to me bloodied and almost at the doors of death. I can't take this!"
Sakura's words were filled with a mixture of anger, frustration, and deep concern. Her emotions spilled over as she confronted Kakashi about his reckless behavior. She had been through this cycle of worry and fear far too many times, and she couldn't bear the thought of him being killed in action.
Kakashi, still weak and pale, met her gaze with his one visible eye. He seemed to understand the gravity of the situation and the pain he was causing Sakura. "Sakura, I... I know I've let you down too many times. I'm sorry for making you worry like this. It wasn't my intention to hurt you."
Sakura's anger began to wane, replaced by a sense of vulnerability. She wiped away the tears that had welled up in her eyes. "I can't bear the thought of you dying, Kakashi. You promised me over and over again that you'll be careful. I don't want to take a chance on you anymore."
Kakashi looked at Sakura's eyes. He messed up again, and to think that Sakura is considering to take a chance on him again.
"Sakura, please, don't do this. Take me back, please." Kakashi's plea was filled with desperation, and he reached out to hold Sakura's hands. His voice was earnest as he continued, "I've made so many mistakes, and I've hurt you and Hana. But I love you both, more than anything in this world. I'll do whatever it takes to make things right and to keep my promises this time."
Sakura looked into Kakashi's one visible eye, seeing the sincerity and regret in his gaze. Her heart ached with a mixture of love and uncertainty. She knew that taking him back would mean giving their relationship another chance, and she was torn between the fear of losing him and the fear of going through this cycle of worry again.
"Kakashi, I want to believe you," Sakura began, her voice soft and filled with emotion. "I want us to be a family, and I love you. Even after all the heartbreaks you caused me. But you've broken your promises so many times, and it's been so hard for me. I need to know that you can change and that you'll truly put us first. I don't want Hana to experience this too."
Kakashi's grip on Sakura's hands tightened, and he looked into her eyes with unwavering determination. "I understand, Sakura," he said, his voice filled with earnestness. "I've caused you so much pain and I can't change the past, but I can promise you this: I will put you and Hana first, above everything else. I'll make sure that you don't have to worry about me putting myself in danger anymore."
"Kakashi, as long as you're in ANBU, you're always going to put yourself on the line!"
"If I quit ANBU, you'll take me back?" Kakashi asked.
Sakura hesitated, torn between her love for Kakashi and the concern for their well-being. She knew that ANBU was a dangerous path, and it had caused her heartache in the past. But she also saw the sincerity in Kakashi's eyes and his willingness to change. It was a difficult decision to make, one that could shape their future together.
After a moment of contemplation, Sakura finally spoke, her voice soft. "You've always been on ANBU, Kakashi. If you quit it because of me, you'll hate me."
Kakashi looked at Sakura, his one visible eye reflecting a mixture of hope and understanding. He knew that leaving ANBU would be a significant sacrifice, and it might come with consequences, but he was willing to make that choice for the sake of their family and a chance to rebuild their relationship.
"Sakura, I'm not going to hate you," he began, his voice earnest. "I want to be there for you, for Hana, and to ensure your peace of mind. I can still serve the village as a jonin. It would not be that different, I'm still going to be a servant of Konoha. I'll do it willingly and without any resentment."
Sakura's gaze remained fixed on Kakashi, her emerald eyes searching for any sign of insincerity. She had heard similar promises from him before, but this time, she needed to be certain that he was willing to make a genuine commitment to their family.
He cupped her face and bore his eye on hers. "Now, tell me, Sakura. If I quit ANBU would you take me back?"
Sakura looked into Kakashi's eye, seeing the earnestness and vulnerability in his gaze. She realized that he was making a significant sacrifice by considering leaving ANBU for the sake of their family. It was a difficult decision for him, and she needed to respond honestly.
"Kakashi," Sakura began, her voice gentle but resolute, "I don't want you to make this decision just for me. It's a choice that you have to make because it's what you want for yourself, not out of obligation. I won't ask you to quit ANBU for me."
Kakashi's eye crinkled as he looked at Sakura, his hand still cupping her face. "Sakura, my commitment to you and Hana goes beyond any organization. I want to make this decision because I love you both, and I want to ensure your well-being. I've seen how my actions have hurt you, and I don't want to cause you more pain. So, please, tell me, if I quit ANBU, would you take me back?"
Sakura sighed, feeling the weight of the decision. She knew that Kakashi's love for them was genuine, and she couldn't ignore his sincerity. While she didn't want to be the sole reason for his choice, she also couldn't deny that she still loved him.
"Kakashi," she began, her voice softening, "if you're willing to make this change for the sake of our family and for yourself, then yes, I will take you back. I want... no... I need you back."
Kakashi's eye softened, and a small smile played on his lips. He leaned in and kissed Sakura gently, a kiss filled with gratitude and relief. "Thank you, Sakura," he murmured against her lips. "I love you more than words can express."
As Kakashi and Sakura shared that heartfelt moment, the weight of the past seemed to lift, and there was a glimmer of hope for their future. They knew that their journey toward rebuilding their relationship and creating a stable and loving environment for Hana would be challenging, but they were willing to take that step together.
Sakura couldn't help but return Kakashi's kiss with equal warmth, a sense of longing and love filling her heart. Her emotions were still mixed, and the fear of repeating the past remained in the back of her mind, but she couldn't deny that she had missed Kakashi and the connection they shared.
Kakashi pulled back slightly, gazing into Sakura's eyes with an affectionate smile. "I promise you, Sakura, I'll do everything I can to make things right. We'll build a future together as a family."
Sakura nodded, her eyes filled with a mixture of emotions. "I believe you, Kakashi. But we have a lot of work ahead of us. We need to focus on Hana and her well-being first."
Kakashi agreed, understanding the importance of taking it one step at a time. "You're right, Sakura. Hana is our priority. We'll work together to give her the love and support she deserves."
With their decision made and their feelings rekindled, Kakashi and Sakura knew that their journey was far from over, but they were willing to face the challenges ahead. As they moved forward, they held onto the hope of creating a happy and stable family, knowing that their love for each other and for Hana would guide them.
As the days passed, Kakashi kept his promise and resigned from ANBU, choosing to serve the village as a jonin. It was a significant change, but he embraced it wholeheartedly for the sake of his family. Sakura and Kakashi worked together to ensure that Hana had a loving and supportive environment where both her parents were present and active in her life.
