Prowl opened his eyes when he heard the door to his quarters slide open. He then heard two sets of feet carefully making their way over to the bed.
"Prowl?" a voice whispered.
Prowl turned over to find the twin younglings he was mentoring - Sideswipe and Sunstreaker - standing next to his bed.
"Something wrong?" Prowl asked sleepily as he sat up.
"We can't sleep". Sunstreaker said.
"We don't like the storm". Sideswipe added.
"It's just an electrical storm", Prowl said. "You're safe inside the base".
"We still don't like it", Sunny stated. "Can we sleep in here?"
"Please?" Sideswipe pleaded.
"Well…I suppose so". Prowl said.
The twins wasted no time leaping into the second in command's bed, one on each side of him. They pressed themselves into Prowl's sides as a flash of lightning lit up the room.
"It'll be over soon". Prowl said, trying to comfort the younglings. He understood how the twins felt, he and his own twin, Bluestreak, hadn't been too fond of storms when they were younglings either. They had often searched for comfort either from their parents or, if Clocker and Strongarm were at work, one of their older brothers.
Another flash lit up the room, followed by a low rumbling noise. The twins felt tense against Prowl's sides, and he rubbed the top of their heads, hoping to distract them from their fear. In all honesty, Prowl didn't consider himself to be very good at tending to younglings, and often felt clueless about how best to care for his young charges. But as he felt Sideswipe and Sunstreaker starting to relax, he decided he must be doing something right.
But Prowl did have a bit of a reputation to protect, and he'd rather not have the twins discussing this little sleepover with anyone, especially Bumblebee, who would tell anyone who would listen. Prowl could just hear Roadbuster and Ironhide teasing him about 'getting soft'.
Prowl looked down at Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, finding them to be sound asleep.
Well, that little talk would just have to wait until morning, Prowl decided. He took another look at the twins to make sure they were still comfortable - which they were - then settled down to go to sleep himself.
Prowl gave a grunt as Sunstreaker kneed him in the side, and when Sideswipe groggily sat up and dropped half his body across Prowl's stomach with a thud, before falling back into a restful recharge.
As Sunstreaker drooled on Prowl's shoulder and Sideswipe gave occasional kicks against his side, Prowl decided he probably wouldn't be getting much sleep that night.
