Chapter 30
Slowly but surely, Mike recovered and redeveloped a relationship with Katie. She still had a bend for being jealous but it was easily dealt with. It all coincided with Mike recovering.
He and Maddie decided to just build a house. It made no sense to remodel theirs and would be costly. They wouldn't have what they needed even with the remodel. So, they decided to build a five-bedroom, four- bathroom house.
Maddie was enjoying getting to pick out the things she wanted, how she wanted the kitchen oriented and the fact that they would have much more space. Mike had purposely made it to where there was a large bonus space that Katie could move into if she ever wanted to.
Finally, move in day was there. Fortunately, Mike was on his feet for the most part and they had plenty of people to help them. Maddie directed where she wanted furniture and boxes placed and Hannah helped. Katie kept Oliver and Gia occupied.
Mike had pizza delivered because they were all exhausted as Maddie had pointed out she wasn't sure where her spatulas had gone. They would be doing good to get the beds made to go to sleep that night. Even Oliver and Gia were tired and after baths; they were all in bed by nine pm. Maddie crawled in next to Mike and gave him a kiss.
"Thank you for all this, Mike. I have never had a house that was this nice." Maddie said.
"You'll make it into a home." Mike remarked, absolutely exhausted. Maddie gave him another long kiss.
"We finally have some privacy." Maddie remarked.
"Yes, we do." Mike agreed.
"And you're so tired, you don't want to do anything." Maddie remarked in a disappointed tone.
"Oh, honey; I always want to do that." Mike said with a grin. It was all the encouragement Maddie needed.
"I'll lock the door." Maddie said as she jumped up. They still had small children who were getting used to a new house. They just needed some privacy for a while.
Several hours later, Maddie kissed his neck before putting her nightgown back on. He kissed her again and smiled at her. "That was amazing." Mike remarked.
"It certainly was. I think I like having a king-sized bed." Maddie remarked.
"It is a step up." Mike agreed. He had convinced her to buy some new furniture, a bed being one of the new pieces.
"I just thought…Oliver still brings up wanting a baby brother. Any chance of that happening after tonight?" Maddie asked.
"You tell me." Mike answered before giving her another kiss.
"Let's just see what happens." Maddie suggested and Mike nodded.
Nine Months Later
As luck would have it, they didn't have to wait very long to get pregnant and as luck would have it; Oliver wasn't going to be stuck with another sister; as he had pointed out. Jacob Michael was the perfect addition to their family.
They had settled into their new house and the kids were all thriving. Mike made a point to spend a lot of time with both Katie and Hannah, not wanting them to feel they weren't a part of the family he had made with Maddie. Oliver and Gia were growing like weeds. And Mike and Maddie were incredibly happy, finally.
