Prologue: Endings and Beginnings

[Omniscient Narrator]

In the vast cosmic battle between Yggdrasil and Dabbat, the fate of the multiverse hung in the balance. Yggdrasil, the ancient time lord, had long held dominion over the forces of life, order, and goodness. On the opposite end of the cosmic spectrum stood Dabbat, a dark and malevolent entity, embodying chaos and destruction.

The war between these two cosmic giants had raged since the dawn of existence itself, a relentless struggle for control over the eighth dimension, where the fate of countless universes was decided. Yggdrasil had been the guardian of creation, the architect of order, while Dabbat reveled in entropy and the annihilation of all things.

As the conflict escalated to a catastrophic climax, Dabbat's relentless siege on the eighth dimension left Yggdrasil with an agonizing choice: surrender control or face utter obliteration. Weakened and cornered, Yggdrasil made the painful decision to yield control, but not before taking a desperate measure to safeguard the multiverse from Dabbat's destructive grasp.

In its waning moments of authority, Yggdrasil channeled its remaining energies to create a champion—a beacon of hope to withstand the darkness that Dabbat threatened to unleash. Yet, in its weakened state, Yggdrasil could not select the ideal champion. Instead, its energies dispersed across the multiverse in search of a suitable candidate.

But the cosmic scales tipped unexpectedly when an agent of chaos intervened. This enigmatic being, a wild card in the cosmic struggle, redirected the energies intended for the champion. With mischievous intent, she guided Yggdrasil's power toward humanity, selecting an unwitting human as the recipient of this tremendous force.

Wilhelm Schwartz, a man in his early thirties, was an unassuming figure in the bustling tale of humanity. With light brown hair that often fell into his striking blue eyes, fair skin, and a surprisingly athletic physique for his modest height of 164 cm, he was the embodiment of ordinary. Yet, beneath this unremarkable exterior lay a fervent desire to leave his mark on the world.

Wilhelm had always yearned for something greater, something that would elevate him from the mundane existence he felt trapped in. Despite his best efforts, success had remained just out of reach in his various pursuits. It was this relentless pursuit of significance that had led him to a career in the military. He clung to the belief that one day, he would be the catalyst for world-changing events, a beacon of hope in a world rife with chaos.

Little did Wilhelm know that his aspirations, once all-consuming, were about to be eclipsed by a cosmic destiny beyond his wildest imagination. While he peacefully slumbered in his bed, the agent of chaos's minion executed her covert mission, crossing the boundaries of his universe. With infinite patience, she bided her time, waiting for the precise moment to reveal herself.

This cunning agent had been granted a specific task by her enigmatic mistress: to select an individual who would serve as the vessel for Yggdrasil's waning energies. However, her mission was more than a mere duty; it was an opportunity to craft an entertaining and exhilarating narrative, one that would amuse her and sow discord for Dabbat. In this clandestine endeavor, she aimed to indirectly aid Yggdrasil while weaving a web of chaos that would forever alter Wilhelm Schwartz's fate.

As Wilhelm's alarm clock chimed at 5:30 am, he stirred in his slumber, the drowsy tendrils of sleep gradually releasing their hold on him. His daily routine began with this familiar sound, urging him to embark on the rituals that would shape his day. Unbeknownst to him, this particular morning marked the beginning of a chain of events that would forever alter the course of his existence.

With practiced efficiency, Wilhelm rose from his bed and proceeded to go about his customary routine. First on the agenda was a brisk five-mile run, a habit he had cultivated over the years to maintain both physical and mental fitness. Before stepping out of his house, he ensured that the door was securely locked, a small yet significant detail that would prove to be crucial in the unfolding narrative.

As Wilhelm set off on his run, his surroundings bathed in the soft hues of dawn, he had no inkling of the extraordinary destiny that awaited him. Unbeknownst to him, the agent of chaos's minion observed his every move, her keen eyes fixated on his form as he weaved through the early morning streets.

For this mysterious agent, the mission was not merely a task; it was an opportunity to craft a story that would both amuse her and sow discord in the realms of Dabbat. She had been entrusted with the responsibility of selecting a vessel for Yggdrasil's fading energies, but she also saw it as a chance to create a narrative filled with twists and turns.

In the moments leading up to her interaction with Wilhelm, the minion delved into his memories, gaining insights into his life and experiences. At first glance, he appeared to be an ordinary human, destined for a mundane existence. However, her examination of his soul's journey through countless lifetimes revealed a complex thread of history-altering moments and missed opportunities.

It was during this introspection that she recognized a glimmer of potential in Wilhelm—a desire to effect change, a longing to leave a mark on the world. This alignment of purpose filled her with hope that he might provide the entertainment she had long sought.

As Wilhelm approached the conclusion of his morning run and their imminent encounter, the minion conducted a final examination of his memories. These memories would serve as the foundation for the system she would unveil to him, a system that would enable him to effectively harness the fading energies of Yggdrasil.

[Wilhelm]

As I neared the conclusion of my morning run, a surreal and inexplicable sensation enveloped me. The very air before me began to shimmer and dance with an ethereal light, a spectacle unlike anything I had ever encountered. My heart quickened, and I couldn't help but mutter in disbelief, "What...?"

From the midst of this dazzling display, as if conjured by some mystical force, the figure of a young woman began to take form. It was a sight that defied reason, and I found myself struggling to comprehend the unfolding spectacle.

Gradually, the figure solidified, revealing the visage of a young human woman. Her appearance was nothing short of mesmerizing—a petite and slender frame, an enchanting intensity in her amber eyes, and a cascade of crimson hair that framed her delicate features. Her attire possessed a minimalist charm, offering a tantalizing glimpse of her girlish curves while modestly concealing the secrets hidden beneath. It was a playful balance between allure and restraint.

While her features bore a human familiarity, there were undeniable elements that set her apart as something extraordinary. Graceful, jet-black wings unfolded from her back, reminiscent of a bat's, adding an air of mystique to her presence. Small, ebony horns adorned her brow, and a spade-tipped tail swayed with a mischievous playfulness, completing this demonic ensemble.

In that singular moment, as our eyes met and a palpable tension hung in the air, I realized that my life was about to take a turn into uncharted territory.

Stunned and utterly incapable of forming coherent thoughts, I found myself trapped in a mesmerized gaze, incapable of looking away as the mysterious woman materialized before me, defying all rational explanation.

Her melodious voice, unlike any I had ever heard, broke the spell of silence that held me captive. It carried an intoxicating blend of allure and divinity, and her eyes sparkled with playful curiosity as she surveyed her surroundings. The very presence of her wings and tail added to the surreal aura that enveloped her, their movements filled with an enigmatic anticipation.

The mysterious female broke the silence with a whimsical inquiry, "Hellooooo? Anyone there?" Her gaze, like a radiant beacon, settled upon me, and she addressed me by name with a familiarity that sent shivers down my spine. "Or did my dramatic entrance leave you speechless, my dear Wilhelm?"

For a fleeting moment, my voice trembled, caught in the throes of disbelief as I struggled to regain my composure. Had I blacked out during my morning run? Could this possibly be real? The words slipped from my lips in a soft mumble, "Did I... pass out while running? There's no way this can be real..." But as I uttered those words, the profound reality of the situation began to sink in—an encounter beyond the boundaries of ordinary existence had just unfolded before my very eyes.

"Ah, the intrigue deepens," she purred, her eyes gleaming with amusement. "But you're wide awake, my dear Wilhelm. This is as real as the fluttering of a butterfly's wings, or in my case, the sway of my little tail." She chuckled, a melodious sound that seemed to dance through the air. "Tell me, have you ever dreamed of the impossible coming true? Of secrets hidden in plain sight? Or perhaps, you've always longed for a dash of mischief in your life? Well, you're in for quite an adventure, my dear."

"… So, if I'm understanding correctly, you're telling me that I've just witnessed something I might consider a divine being, deity, demon, or magical entity, and it's not merely a product of heatstroke or dehydration?" I inquired.

"Hee-hee, you're an intriguing one, Wilhelm!" she chimed with a playful giggle, her voice carrying a hint of enchantment. Her eyes sparkled with mystique, like a keeper of ancient secrets. "No heatstroke or delusions, my dear. You've just entered an extraordinary realm, akin to pages from mystical grimoires you've found online. I'm much like the beings from those stories, yet as real as you. Isn't it thrilling"

"…" I paused for a moment, granting myself the opportunity to gather my thoughts, make sense of the bewildering situation laid out before me, and contemplate the identity of the mysterious being who stood before me. 'Judging by her demonic features, I surmise she's likely a demon—perhaps even a succubus, given the enchanting nature of her words... But this doesn't add up. Why, out of all people, would I find myself in this peculiar scenario?' I pondered quietly.

Taking a deep breath, I began to speak, "Let me get this straight for a moment. Are you suggesting that I'm unbelievably fortunate to find myself in a situation that most texts describe as nearly impossible? Moreover, everything I've read about spiritual beings has consistently emphasized the requirement of immense strength and a profound connection between an occultist and the spirit world, something rarely, if ever, achieved?"

"Oh, Wilhelm, you've hit the jackpot," she purred, mischief dancing in her eyes. "Most folks never get a taste of this kind of magic. It's a dash of the impossible mixed with a sprinkle of secrets. Forget the rule book; you're about to be in a world that thrives on the extraordinary. That is if and only if you accept my offer," she whispered, her words laden with alluring secrets, drawing him deeper into the enigmatic realm she promised, enticing him with a playfulness that mirrored her enigmatic allure. "What say you, Wilhelm?"

"That depends, you see," I hesitated for a moment, my voice carrying a mixture of uncertainty and cautious curiosity. "While your offer is tempting, I've spent enough time studying the lore of spiritual beings to know that things like this don't usually come without a cost." I paused briefly, glancing at her form, enticed by her otherworldy beauty. "Moreover, considering your appearance, it's possible you might be a succubus, and depending on which occult text you follow, that could mean various things. Some suggest you might demand my energy, others talk about souls, and there's even mention of other... obligations," I added, choosing my words carefully.

She leaned in closer, her eyes filled with a mischievous glint. "Oh, Wilhelm, you're quite the clever one, aren't you?" She purred, her tone playfully enticing. "But what if I told you that not everything in the occult texts is set in stone? It's a world full of possibilities and secrets, my dear. While some beings may demand, I offer a different kind of pact." Her words hung in the air like a tantalizing secret. "I'm here to provide you with an experience beyond your wildest imagination, one that defies the norm. The choice is yours, of course."

Her cryptic descriptions persisted, revealing only what she chose to share, leaving me with the task of reaching a final decision even more challenging. As she maintained her enigmatic demeanor, I considered her words and the path they implied. "You make a valid point," I conceded, "as the entire practice of occult research is centered on diving into the unknown, breaking traditional boundaries, and seeking to uncover new information. Although, continuing to follow this path and assuming that I accept your offer... What happens?"

"If you say yes, dear Wilhelm," she cooed playfully, "I'll be your guide into a once-fictional universe, and it'll be oh-so-real. Exciting, right? What's your answer?"

I paused for a moment, her offer hanging before me like the chance of a lifetime. The idea of accepting her proposal meant being transported into another world, a notion that had previously only existed in the realm of movies and never in the scope of my reality. "Do I have a say in the world I'm sent to and the abilities I'll gain?" I asked her. "I assume you've got some sort of system or method to let me choose, like a 'CYOA', 'jump-chain', or something akin to a gamer fanfiction?"

Her eyes danced with amusement as she contemplated my question, clearly relishing the intrigue of the moment. "Oh, Wilhelm, you're full of surprises," she purred with a sultry smile. Then, leaning in and whispering into my ear, she continued, "I've already delved into your memories and selected the world and abilities you'll receive."

"Wait a moment, you've looked into my memories..." I replied, my voice tinged with a mixture of astonishment and mild embarrassment. "Well, that's somewhat disturbing, to say the least..." I continued, hoping that she did not look entirely too deep into my life while expecting the opposite.

She chuckled, her melodious laughter filling the air. "Oh, don't worry, Wilhelm," she said with a mischievous glint in her eye. "I only peeked into the most interesting parts. Your secrets are safe with me... for now."

"... Wonderful," I mumbled softly, then added, "So you've already chosen the world and my abilities… To be entirely honest, declining your proposal would seem rather foolish on my part. Yet, you've kept both the cost and your identity shrouded in mystery, leaving me with a few unanswered questions..."

"The cost, dear Wilhelm, is nothing that should concern you," she purred, her voice seductive and enticing as she inched closer, her warm breath sending shivers down my spine. "Our desires are intricately intertwined in this delightful arrangement." She drew in closer, her lips tantalizingly close to my earlobe, and continued in an alluring tone, "You can call me Lily, sweetheart. All you have to do is accept my offer, and our thrilling journey will commence. I'll be your delightful guide through the exciting unknown."

Before I replied to her, I paused, taking a moment to absorb what she had conveyed and contemplate the potential outcomes. I reflected on the situation, weighing the significance of her offer. 'If I were to reject her proposal, it's unlikely I'll ever encounter such an opportunity again. Yet, the cost remains a mystery, and while she mentioned our desires aligning, the specifics remain elusive,' I mused inwardly.

"Before I accept, Lily, there's a crucial matter I need clarification on. In the event of failure within the universe I'm sent to, is there a path of return to this one, or would it mark the conclusion? Furthermore, will you be an active companion, or will your role be that of an external observer?" I inquired, my tone measured.

"Hehe... My dear Wilhelm, the more you concern yourself with the specter of failure, the less you savor the enchantment of possibility. As for joining you... hehe... as much as we'd both relish that... it all hinges on the choices you've made and will make in the days to come," Lily responded, her voice imbued with a playful and seductive allure.

No matter how hard I pressed Lily for a straight answer, she persistently sidestepped my inquiries, all the while assuring me of my safety. Deep within, I resolved to embrace her proposition, regardless of the impending consequences, all the while clinging to hope for the best outcome. "Alright, Lily... It seems clear that you won't provide me with a direct answer, perhaps as part of your capricious nature. I accept your offer."

Lily's response was laden with her mischievous allure, "Oh, Wilhelm, you've made the delightful choice. We shall embark on a thrilling journey, you and I. Your questions, my sweet, shall be answered in due time. For now, bask in the enchantment of possibility."

"So, Lily, what's the next step?" I inquired, my anticipation growing as I readied myself for the enigmatic journey that lay ahead. Uncertainty shrouded my destination, and the future's vastness offered both tremendous promise and the looming specter of calamity. The backdrop to this moment was the myriad 'Jump-chains' and 'CYOAs' I had ventured through, each meticulously crafted to present formidable trials for me to conquer.

"Ah, my dearest Wilhelm~," she purred, her voice dripping with seduction. "You're such an intriguing plaything, so willing to dance on the edge of uncertainty. Now that you've chosen the thrilling path, the true adventure begins. You shall soon find yourself in a world like no other."

In the blink of an eye, the world around me plunged into darkness, and my consciousness started to slip away. The precise nature of this transformation eluded me, but one thing was unmistakably clear: Lily had spoken the truth, and a fresh chapter of my life was ready to begin. The last thing I heard before I truly lost consciousness was Lily saying, "Embrace the unknown, my dear Wilhelm. We're about to embark on a journey like no other, one filled with wonders and mysteries beyond your wildest dreams. Farewell... for now… Siegfried."

[Wilhelm – 1 Month Earlier]

After another day spent in the monotony of office work and meticulously crafting lesson plans to instruct fellow military personnel in the intricacies of transitioning between airframes and conducting avionics systems maintenance, I finally arrived home. My car eased into the driveway, and I could feel the weight of the day's responsibilities slowly begin to lift from my shoulders.

With a sigh of relief, I muttered to myself, "Finally, I'm home." The tension in my muscles began to relent, but the exhaustion still clung to me like a stubborn shadow. I fumbled for my keys, the tiny metal instruments of freedom, and slid them into the lock. The satisfying click of the door unlocking signaled my escape from the outside world.

As I stepped inside, the silence of the house enveloped me. There were no voices, no laughter, no traces of joy to greet me. The emptiness that had settled in my life, like an unwelcome guest, had become the new normal. Since the bitter divorce battle with my wife had begun, the once-familiar sounds of a happy home had faded into memory.

As I hung my keys on the hook and removed my boots, a somber thought crept into my mind. 'When did things get this bad that it came to this?' The weight of the silence in the house was overwhelming, casting a harsh light on just how isolated and estranged I had become from the life I once knew.

As I removed my uniform and neatly hung it in the closet, my mind continued to dwell on the past. "Maybe it just wasn't meant to last from the beginning," I reflected. The memories of constant fighting over trivial matters, her tendency to become violent when faced with any challenge, and the times when she crossed the line by breaking things, throwing objects, and even physically assaulting me flashed before my eyes. I couldn't help but recall how, if I ever dared to respond in self-defense, she would instantly accuse me of abuse. The toxicity of our relationship had become a vicious cycle that seemed impossible to escape.

The burden of the divorce was weighing heavily on my mind. 'Even now, with the divorce paperwork,' I thought, 'she's refusing to sign it and trying to squeeze a lifetime's worth of money out of me.' The complexity of the situation was further compounded by the issue of her citizenship, which I had sponsored years ago. She was now attempting to leverage that connection to claim entitlement to financial support, even though we were no longer together. It was a tangled web of legal battles and emotional turmoil that seemed never-ending.

Changing into something more comfortable, I headed to my office. It was my sanctuary, a place where I could escape from the chaos of my personal life and focus on my true passions: history, roleplaying games, and writing. The room was filled with historical books, shelves of dice and character sheets for roleplaying games, and a desk cluttered with notebooks and a pristine laptop for my writing and personal relaxation. It was the one place where I felt a sense of control and purpose, away from the turmoil of my divorce.

The soft glow of the desk lamp bathed the room in a warm, inviting light as I settled into my chair. With a deep sigh, I opened my laptop and started writing, allowing my thoughts to flow onto the screen. Writing had always been my escape, a way to create worlds and stories where I had control over every twist and turn. It was a form of therapy, a way to process my emotions and make sense of the chaos that had become my life.

As I typed away, my mind wandered to the worlds of my roleplaying games. I had a weekly group of friends who gathered online to embark on epic adventures, and I was the game master, the one who crafted the narratives and controlled the destinies of our characters. It was a form of storytelling that brought us all together, a way to connect even when life seemed determined to tear us apart.

Our gaming journey had begun during our time in technical training in the military. Faced with weekends stuck on base and limited transportation options, we had sought a way to fill our time. Little did we know that this shared passion would become a lifeline, providing solace during the toughest of times.

However, it wasn't always a pleasant escape. There were moments of darkness that cast shadows over our gaming group. The murder of one of our own had almost torn our group apart. It was a harrowing experience that took a toll on us, especially when we learned that the perpetrator had received a relatively short prison sentence due to being deemed mentally unfit, leaving us with unanswered questions and a sense of injustice.

Nonetheless, we pressed on with our sessions, and I made sure to incorporate the characters that had once been played by our departed friend. Even though his life had been tragically cut short, we were determined to keep his memory alive through the characters he had breathed life into and had so much fun with. Time had passed, and the wounds had healed, but his characters continued to serve as a tribute to his enduring presence in our gaming world.

And then there was history, my true passion. The shelves lined with books held the stories of countless civilizations, each rise and fall a testament to the resilience of humanity. I often found solace in the past, in the knowledge that people had faced adversity and emerged stronger on the other side.

As I delved deeper into my writing, I couldn't help but reflect on the timeless patterns of history. Empires rose and fell, caught in an unending cycle of triumphs and tragedies. It seemed that the fate of each new civilization depended on whether they could learn from the mistakes of their predecessors or merely repeat them, perpetuating the cycle. Countless men and women had met their demise throughout history's course.

Yet, amid the countless lives lost, there were always those exceptional individuals who stood as paragons of their time. Whether through their remarkable actions or the consequences thereof, they left an ineradicable mark on the world, shaping it in ways that prevented future generations from following their perilous paths. History, with its ever-repeating lessons, provided a rich labyrinth from which I could draw inspiration to craft a multitude of different worlds and narratives.

My own aspirations often intertwined with the stories I created. I couldn't help but yearn to be someone who left an permanent mark on the world, just as the historical figures I admired had done. It was a common human desire, shared by countless individuals throughout time—to leave something behind, a legacy that could be cherished and passed down to future generations.

The innate need to make a meaningful impact, to shape the course of humanity for the better, drove me forward. I didn't want to be just another anonymous figure in the vast sea of humanity, a name forgotten amidst the billions of lives on Earth. I craved the opportunity to contribute something lasting, something that could potentially alter the course of history itself.

Indeed, history had taught me the near-impossibility of a single individual leaving an ineradicable mark on the world. This knowledge shaped not only my own aspirations but also the narratives I crafted in my games and stories. I sought to convey the arduous journey it took for someone to transcend the limitations of humanity and become a figure of significance, recognized and remembered beyond their lifetime.

In my stories, I portrayed the true struggle it required to elevate oneself from the ordinary and into the realm of the extraordinary. The evolution from an ordinary individual to a regional or historical figure was a daunting task, one that demanded unwavering dedication and the ability to seize the right opportunities. It was a lifetime of unyielding effort, marked by countless tribulations and obstacles, that could potentially propel a singular human into the annals of history, ensuring their legacy endured and continued to inspire future generations.

Amidst the comforting glow of my desk lamp, I allowed myself to become fully absorbed in my writing. The worries and trials of my personal life, which had haunted me relentlessly, began to recede into the background, if only temporarily. In this space, enveloped by my passions and creativity, I discovered a rare tranquility and a sense of purpose that had been absent from my life for too long.

Pausing my work on the upcoming game material, I pondered the idea that had been brewing in my mind. 'It's been quite a while since I've delved into a Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) or Jumpchain story,' I mused to myself. 'This might be the perfect opportunity to commit myself to crafting a compelling narrative and challenge myself with a hardcore survival run.' The prospect of embarking on such a creative endeavor filled me with excitement and anticipation, providing a welcome diversion from the tumultuous currents of reality.

With a sense of nostalgia and excitement, I contemplated my previous forays into the world of CYOA and Jumpchain stories. I knew that I had archived a treasure trove of documents and materials on my laptop, each containing the intricate rules and immersive worlds of these interactive narratives. Yet, the prospect of embarking on a new adventure and discovering fresh challenges beckoned to me.

'I should start by revisiting the forums,' I decided, a grin spreading across my face. 'There might be new and intriguing scenarios waiting for me to explore.' With that thought, I opened a blank document on my laptop and launched a web browser, ready to delve into the vibrant online community of CYOA and Jumpchain enthusiasts.

As I scrolled through the Jumpchain forums and databases, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement building within me. The wealth of new scenarios and supplements I had discovered promised endless possibilities for crafting immersive stories and challenges.

'With these additions,' I mused to myself, 'I can create a rich narrative for my characters and explore various arcs within the story. The updates to the body modification and universal drawbacks will certainly help me balance the power scaling and maintain a suitable level of difficulty.'

Before I could immerse myself in the boundless realms of creativity, there was groundwork to be laid. 'Start with the basics,' I reminded myself, 'create a character sheet to meticulously detail every facet, and choose a name that encapsulates the very essence of the path this character will tread.'

A faint chuckle escaped my lips as I recalled the ancient wisdom of occultists who attributed profound significance to true names. 'A name holds the power to define an individual's very nature,' I mused. With this in mind, I reached for my trusty laptop and fired up a Jumpchain character sheet, my digital canvas for sculpting a fresh identity. My cursor poised over the cosmic passport tab, eager to embark on this imaginative voyage.

Selecting the right name for my character within the Jumpchain adventure was paramount. I understood that this name would not only shape their identity but also steer their destiny throughout the narrative. After a moment of contemplation, it came to me. The perfect name, one brimming with ambition, fate, and a resolute determination to etch its mark across the multiverse.

"Siegfried Herrmann," I typed into the character sheet, a sense of contentment washing over me as the name materialized on the screen. 'Siegfried, a moniker embodying strength and heroism, coupled with Herrmann, a name that signifies a legacy and an unwavering desire to leave a lasting impression.'

Now that I had settled on a name for my character, I decided to take a systematic approach to build him up. First things first, I thought to myself, 'Let's establish the universal rules for the Jumpchain using the U.U. Supplement. After that, I'll select a few drawbacks from it before delving into the Universal Drawbacks Supplement to fine-tune the difficulty level and power scaling for the upcoming jumps.'

Browsing through the U.U. Supplement, I considered my options. 'Alright,' I thought, 'I'll go with Hardcore Survival mode for the Jumpchain setting, but I'll set the risk level as penalized to make death challenging but not a complete game over for the story's sake. Now, as for house rules, I believe "Drawback Bank," "Mind-Guard," and "Fluff Origin" align perfectly with what I have in mind.'

Perusing the general drawbacks section of the document, I weighed my options. 'There's quite a selection here,' I thought. 'But for Siegfried's character development, having a rival is a must. I'll choose "Rival" and "Serious Rivalry." However, I'll steer clear of "Foul Play." While it might be realistic for some rivals, it doesn't align with my preferences. On the other hand, "Accidental Enemies" and "Staying in Character" seem fitting. Minor actions in reality can lead to making enemies, and a character's origin should influence their interactions in a Jumpchain.'

'Next up is the meta-drawbacks section,' I thought. 'The combination of Jumpchain documents should make for a much more expansive and creatively liberating story. "Make Mine A Triple" seems like a great choice; it'll let me combine up to three Jumpchain documents for each of Siegfried's jumps.' With that decision made, I continued to browse the meta-drawbacks section for any additional options that could enhance the storytelling experience.

As I reached the end of the section, I reflected, 'I think the only other thing that makes sense here and could add an entertaining layer to the story is "Drawback Retention." It would mean that once a drawback is taken, Siegfried has to deal with its consequences until he can find a way to overcome it. This way, there's a sense of continuity and real consequence from one jump to the next, which can contribute to power-scaling between different Jumpchain documents. It adds a touch of realism, reminding us that even someone traversing through different universes can't escape the consequences of their past choices. The inability to escape one's own actions is a crucial element that many in history have underestimated.'

As I considered the special drawbacks, I mused, 'Moving on, I think the only other thing I really want from this supplement is the "Empowered Butterflies" drawback. The introduction of Siegfried into these universes is an unknown factor, which logically would disrupt existing plotlines due to the laws of causality. It also opens up the possibility to explore new storylines and realms that were previously inaccessible, especially when combining different Jumpchain documents.'

With a plan in mind, I began to calculate the drawbacks and choice points for Siegfried's journey, keeping the difficulty level in check and ensuring that each jump would provide a meaningful challenge. 'I think that's the end of this document, and after adjusting for the hardcore mode, Siegfried should start each jump with 525 choice points before considering any other drawbacks. This will increase the difficulty and give him a reason to keep jumping without becoming overpowered after the first jump,' I thought, satisfied with the framework I had laid out.

Delving into the Universal Drawbacks Supplement, I thought, 'Next up is the Universal Drawbacks Supplement, and the choice points I accumulate here will be funneled into the Essential Body Modification Supplement. This should provide a solid foundation for Siegfried to survive the initial jump and allow for his evolution throughout subsequent jumps.' With a sense of excitement, I began to fill in Siegfried's character sheet with the drawbacks and rules I had chosen from the previous supplement, carefully considering their implications for his journey.

I continued scrolling through the Universal Drawbacks Supplement, my mind focused on creating a balanced and challenging narrative for Siegfried. 'Okay, since I've already set the rules and mode for the Jumpchain, I'll skip that section and go right to the Jumper Drawbacks. While spending money without repercussions sounds fun, it would wreak havoc on the local economic situations in each universe. So, "Economic Impact" as a drawback is perfect for maintaining that realism,' I thought as I added it to Siegfried's character sheet.

The next section of the document was companion drawbacks, and I began reading and thinking, 'Well, I can't really take any of the drawbacks in this section right now since Siegfried doesn't have any companions planned at the start of his jumps. But "Courting Disaster" should be a fun addition since I can take it. Having the BBEG being a yandere for him sounds like a fun writing exercise and should make for entertaining situations, especially depending on what Jumpchain document it is.' I added "Courting Disaster" to Siegfried's character sheet.

'Additionally, I don't enjoy the idea of having Siegfried using a cosmic warehouse during jumps to pull out potentially out-of-context or objects foreign to the jump, so "No Access" is essential to balance out the story and keep some semblance of a power-struggle in place for each jump,' I thought, adding "No Access" as another drawback in Siegfried's character sheet.

'Starting drawbacks, there are quite a few here that could be useful, but I like the "Hot, Hotter, and Super Hot Water" drawback collection for starting the jump in an unpleasant and dangerous situation. The essentials to developing a resistance to the brutality of the universes that he will encounter will come from facing the challenges head-first instead of avoiding them,' I thought, selecting "Hot Water", "Hotter Water", and "Super Hot" as Siegfried's starting drawbacks.

From the event drawbacks section, I began writing down quite a few and thinking, 'So first, we are going to take "Bitch of Destiny" to give Siegfried tasks to complete each jump and develop his relationships with his traveling companions. Although I'm going to couple that with "Trouble Magnet," "Trouble Central," and "Trouble Blackhole" to add some flavorful events to the jump and keep up the pressure and difficulty. Additionally, it will add depth to the universe and allow the element of change to ripple through the jump.' I meticulously noted these drawbacks on Siegfried's character sheet.

As I delved deeper into the character creation process, my mind raced with possibilities and challenges for Siegfried's journey. 'While "Echoed Changes" will ensure there's a lasting impact of Siegfried's actions, "It's the Little Things that Matter" will introduce more unpredictability into the story and potential gender-swapped adversaries. This should complement the earlier "Courting Disaster" drawback,' I pondered, jotting down the choices on the character sheet before turning my attention to the perk and power drawbacks section.

The careful selection of drawbacks and perks for Siegfried's character was essential to shaping his journey. 'The traditional approach of receiving perks without effort won't suit Siegfried's story. "You've Gotta Want It" will make sure he has to work for his perks, while "Shell Your Own Nuts" will keep him grounded, preventing power from going to his head,' I reflected as I included these choices in the character sheet. The character was slowly taking shape, reflecting the challenges and depth I sought to infuse into the story.

Exploring the theme and origin drawbacks, I considered how to add depth and challenge to Siegfried's journey. 'Horror and the supernatural will create intriguing obstacles and adversaries, pushing Siegfried to continuously grow stronger,' I mused. 'Choosing "Genre Lock" along with "Exit Light, Enter Night," and "Enter the Weirdness" will add complexity to the story and make Siegfried's journey even more unpredictable and exciting.' These drawbacks would weave an engaging narrative, filled with twists and turns that would keep both Siegfried and the readers on their toes.

Delving into the origin drawbacks, I weighed the options carefully. 'Having his benefactor complete Siegfried's Jumpchain document adds a layer of survival and intrigue to the story,' I thought. 'Choosing "Why Not Without" will give Siegfried a reason to seek freedom if his benefactor's choices become detrimental. And "Start at the Beginning" combined with "Earlier Beginning" will provide a comprehensive view of each universe, from its early years to its conclusion.' These drawbacks would enrich Siegfried's journey and allow readers to immerse themselves fully in each universe's narrative arc.

As I contemplated the challenges that lay ahead for Siegfried, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. 'This story is going to be intense,' I mused. 'The current drawbacks create a perfect balance of difficulty, making sure Siegfried doesn't become overpowered too quickly. A wise benefactor would avoid that at all costs, as it could lead to dire consequences.' With Siegfried's drawbacks sheet nearing completion, I was eager to start crafting the narrative and see how he would navigate the trials and tribulations of his Jumpchain journey.

I couldn't help but smirk as I added the "You Wanted Worth Opponents?" drawback to Siegfried's character sheet. It was the perfect fit for my storytelling ambitions. 'This will make the villains truly formidable,' I thought, 'no more spoon-feeding the hero with weaknesses and explanations. They'll be ruthless and cunning, posing a real threat to Siegfried's survival.'

With that final addition, the drawback sheet was complete, and I was eager to delve into Siegfried's character attributes. I opened the Essential Body Modification Supplement, ready to shape him into a formidable and resilient protagonist for this epic multiverse-spanning adventure.

For the next hour, I immersed myself in the supplement, meticulously selecting and fine-tuning Siegfried's body modifications. My goal was to create a character who could survive and thrive in his first jump, but not without facing substantial challenges that would require his effort and determination.

I began by setting Siegfried's basic characteristics to those of an average human, ensuring he had a solid foundation to build upon. Then, I used the remaining points to enhance specialized aspects of his characteristics, carefully considering how each modification would contribute to his journey.

delved into the specialized modifications, selecting each one with care and consideration. To ensure Siegfried's survival and adaptability, I chose a combination of enhancements that would serve him well in various situations.

First, I opted for "Physical Prowess I," giving him a boost in physical strength and agility. This would come in handy when facing physical challenges in the diverse universes he would explore. Next, I selected "Reduced Sustenance II," allowing Siegfried to thrive on minimal food and water. This modification would prove invaluable during times of scarcity or survival scenarios.

For regeneration, I chose "Regeneration I," providing him with the ability to heal minor injuries at an accelerated rate, enhancing his durability and recovery capabilities. To fortify his mental faculties, I picked "Mental Prowess I" and "Mental Resistance I." These modifications would sharpen his intellect and bolster his mental defenses, helping him navigate complex situations and resist mental manipulation.

The "Empathetic" modification would grant Siegfried the ability to better understand and connect with others, potentially forming alliances and gaining valuable insights from those he encountered. "Charismatic I" and "Unflappable" rounded out his modifications, enhancing his charm and composure. These traits would serve him well when dealing with various characters and challenges throughout his journey.

With each modification carefully chosen, Siegfried's character sheet was taking shape, and he was becoming a well-rounded and capable protagonist for the epic adventures that awaited him.

The skill perks section was the next focus of my attention, and I carefully considered which skills would be most beneficial for Siegfried's journey. Given his balanced mental and physical attributes, I aimed to further enhance his capabilities and versatility.

First on my list was "Strategic Mastery I." This skill would sharpen Siegfried's strategic thinking and tactical prowess, making him a formidable planner and leader in challenging situations. "Leadership Mastery I" followed suit, reinforcing his natural charisma with the skills necessary to inspire and lead others effectively. This would prove invaluable when forming alliances and leading teams.

"Subterfuge Mastery I" would provide Siegfried with the ability to navigate the complex world of deception and intrigue. It would allow him to uncover secrets, manipulate situations, and outwit his adversaries when necessary.

To excel in social interactions, I chose "Social Mastery I." This skill would enhance his diplomatic skills, making him adept at negotiation, persuasion, and forming bonds with a wide range of characters. "Polyglot" was a practical addition, granting Siegfried the ability to quickly learn and understand different languages. This skill would facilitate communication in diverse universes and aid in deciphering ancient texts or communicating with alien species.

Lastly, "Occult Mastery I" rounded out his skill perks, providing him with knowledge of the supernatural and occult. This skill would be crucial when dealing with mystical or arcane elements in the various worlds he would explore. With these skill perks selected, Siegfried's repertoire of abilities was becoming increasingly well-rounded and suited for the challenges that awaited him in the multiverse.

With the character sheet nearly complete, I took a moment to reflect on the journey Siegfried was about to embark on. The weight of his choices, the challenges he would face, and the unpredictable nature of the multiverse filled my mind. 'This is going to be one wild ride,' I thought to myself, my excitement building as I imagined Siegfried navigating through the diverse and treacherous worlds that awaited him.

It was a story waiting to be told, one that would test not only Siegfried's resilience but also the depths of his character. 'I wonder how he'll evolve over time,' I mused, contemplating the character development that would unfold as he faced hardships and made crucial decisions in each new universe.

As I prepared to calculate Siegfried's attributes, I couldn't help but wonder how he would fare in the harsh realities of the different universes he would visit. The hardcore survival mode, the rivalries, and the ever-present consequences of his actions would shape him into a character worth rooting for.

'Siegfried's going to be a survivor,' I thought with determination, knowing that his journey would be far from easy, but that was what would make it so compelling. And the themes of horror and the supernatural would add an element of suspense and danger that would keep readers on the edge of their seats.

'This story is going to have it all – thrills, challenges, and surprises,' I mused, envisioning the twists and turns that would captivate readers. Siegfried's journey was about to begin, and I was eager to see where it would take him. With his character sheet complete, it was time to bring him to life and let his story unfold in the vast and unpredictable world of the Jumpchain.

Siegfried's attributes were a reflection of the challenges he would face in the Jumpchain journey. His physical attributes were impressive, with an "A" in strength, endurance, speed, flexibility, coordination, and regeneration, making him a formidable contender in any universe. However, there were weaknesses too, with a "C" in resilience, reflex, pain resistance, and durability.

'Balanced but not invincible,' I noted, recognizing that Siegfried's physical prowess would be tempered by his vulnerabilities.

His mental attributes were equally intriguing. With an "A" in appeal, logic, memory, resolve, charisma, empathy, and trickery, Siegfried possessed the mental acumen to navigate complex situations and form meaningful connections with others. However, a "C" in perception, magic, mana regen, and mana pool hinted at potential challenges in dealing with the mystical and supernatural aspects of the multiverse.

'His strengths and weaknesses make for a compelling character,' I thought, appreciating the depth Siegfried's attributes added to his persona. And then there was luck, or rather, the lack of it. Siegfried's "F" in luck was a constant reminder that his journey would be fraught with unpredictability and adversity.

'Luck isn't on his side,' I mused, acknowledging that Siegfried's success would come from determination and skill rather than good fortune. With his attributes calculated, Siegfried's character was complete, and I couldn't wait to see how he would utilize his strengths and overcome his weaknesses in the diverse and challenging universes that awaited him.

As I stared at the folders of my other characters, a sense of nostalgia washed over me. It had indeed been a while since I had delved into the worlds and adventures of Mikael Kol, Alberich Wolff, and Frederick Weiss. They were like old friends, patiently waiting for their stories to continue.

'Maybe it's time to revisit their worlds,' I thought, feeling a renewed sense of excitement. Each character had their unique journey and challenges, and I couldn't deny the allure of picking up their stories again.

With Siegfried's character sheet complete, it felt like a fresh start not only for him but for my other characters as well. I knew that juggling multiple narratives would be a challenge, but it was a challenge I was eager to embrace.

I created a new folder for Siegfried Herrmann and placed his character sheet inside, ready to embark on a new chapter in the multiverse while also giving my old characters a chance to continue their adventures.

The blaring alarm on my phone snapped me out of my creative reverie, reminding me that the passage of time had been utterly oblivious to my deep dive into character creation. The room was now shrouded in the velvety embrace of night, and the distant hum of the city outside indicated that the world had continued its ceaseless march forward.

I let out a sigh, realizing that the responsibilities of the real world were once again beckoning me. "Well, it seems like it's time to call it a night," I muttered to myself. As much as I wanted to dive into Siegfried's adventures and continue the tales of Mikael, Alberich, and Frederick, I had work waiting for me in the morning.

With reluctance, I closed my laptop and pushed back from the desk, a pang of excitement and anticipation still lingering in my mind. "Tomorrow," I promised, looking at the folders on my laptop, "I'll be back for more adventures."

As I made my way to the bedroom, thoughts of potential jumps and storylines danced in my head. Tomorrow was a new day, and with it came the promise of weaving tales in worlds both familiar and uncharted. But for now, it was time to rest and let the dreams of those adventures carry me away into the night.

[Wilhelm / Siegfried]

I began to stir from my slumber, the lingering echo of my conversation with Lily still haunting my thoughts. My awakening brought with it a sense of curiosity, a yearning to discover where I would find myself and what peculiar world fate had chosen for me. 'There are so many potential worlds,' I pondered, 'and with all the characters I've created, I really hope I don't end up in one of the grimdark ones or the horror survival ones. Those were designed to test the character and to build a character able to endure the true darkness of the world as described by Lovecraft.'

As I slowly woke up, I couldn't help but notice a strange sensation. It was as if I had shrunk, suddenly feeling like I was no longer in my adult body but rather in the form of a child. As my eyes fluttered open, I was greeted by a room bathed in sunlight streaming through the windows. However, above me, an unfamiliar sight met my gaze—the ceiling seemed to be constructed from solid stone.

I cast my eyes downward, a sense of unease gnawing at me, and my worst fears were realized. Instead of the familiar contours of my adult body, I was now trapped within the frame of an incredibly young child. A wave of paralyzing dread surged through me, leaving me feeling utterly powerless and terrified. 'No...,' I thought, my mind racing. 'There's only one character I created who was cursed to begin their journey from the very beginning...'

'Why, out of all the possible beginnings and characters I've crafted, did Lily choose to place me in the shoes of Siegfried?' I wondered, my mind awash with confusion. 'I hadn't even begun to write his stories or select jumps for him.' Taking a moment to collect my thoughts, I forced myself to breathe deeply, attempting to calm the rising tide of anxiety within me.

'Alright, let's take a step back and think this through,' I advised myself, attempting to regain composure. 'I do recall that Siegfried's character build was intentionally loaded with quite a few drawbacks, meant to slow down his progress and ensure the story's meaningful development. However, his stats were generally solid, except for one glaring weakness - his abysmal luck.' I mentally took a deep breath, anchoring myself in the face of this unexpected situation.

'Let's set aside that concern for now,' I contemplated, grappling with the implications of my situation. 'If I were to meet an untimely demise here, would it trigger a jump fail, thrusting me into the next world? Given that Lily placed me in Siegfried's narrative, that's how it's supposed to function. But the original concept never envisioned it becoming a reality like this.' The uncertainty weighed heavily on my mind as I pondered the potential consequences of my predicament.

Struggling to sit up and survey my surroundings, I noticed that I was nestled in a small child's bed. The bed linens, however, seemed to harken back to a bygone era, resembling the traditional bedding one might expect from the 1900s, rather than the modern, factory-produced sheets and duvets. The room's peculiar blend of elements added to my growing sense of disorientation and uncertainty.

'Hmm... These furnishings and furniture seem antique, but everything appears to be handcrafted,' I surmised, reaching out with my childish arms to touch the fabric of my clothing. 'This feels similar to the bed sheets, like it's been hand-sewn or perhaps made with an early sewing machine.'

However, my musings were abruptly shattered by the jarring sounds of gunfire and agonized screams, yanking me from my contemplative reverie and thrusting me into a much more immediate and ominous reality.

Straining to make sense of the cacophony outside, I could just barely discern someone speaking in what sounded like German to my ears. 'German-speaking locals, huh... Well, that's something, but it still doesn't provide much to go on,' I noted to myself. 'And it looks like, due to the drawbacks I selected for Siegfried, I don't have any memories of this world. His jumps were always meant to begin from scratch, letting him develop and adapt to each new world as he went along.' The daunting reality of my situation began to sink in as I grappled with the challenges ahead.

As the chaos persisted outside the stone dwelling where I was confined, I remained seated on the bed, lost in thought. 'I never designed Siegfried with any means to interact with the jumps once he entered them,' I reflected. 'But perhaps, just maybe, Lily might have provided me with something, given her claim that she combined elements from my own memories to send me here.'

A sense of unease gnawed at me as I considered the possibility that Lily had chosen Siegfried's narrative not for my benefit, but to witness the trials and tribulations of my struggle in this unfamiliar world. Feeling a newfound determination, I decided to give something a try. "Status," I thought aloud, and as the word left my mind, a window materialized before me, displaying a bit of information.

[Name: Siegfried Herrmann]
[Age: 4]
[Jump: Rise of Totalitarianism]
[Nationality: German]
[Occupation: Child]
[Location: Tanga, German East Africa]
[Date: November 2, 1914]
[Status: Healthy]

My newfound discovery of the interface gave me a glimmer of hope, but the grim reality of my situation quickly reasserted itself. 'Okay,' I mused, 'so she did provide me with some fragments of an interface to interact with the world, or at least a basic status window. However, the location and year are incredibly unfavorable. I'm a 4-year-old German child in the Imperial German colonies, and it's already after July 1914, which means the Great War has already begun. How on earth am I supposed to do anything in this predicament? And I can't help but assume that the sounds outside are the British starting their invasion of the colony...'

'Wait, let's try something else,' I thought, this time concentrating on the word "Menu" in my mind. The status window in front of me faded away, replaced by a minimalistic menu with only a few options: Status, Attributes, Perks, and Quests. 'Okay,' I acknowledged, 'very limited menu options.' It was clear that I had to make the most of the tools I had, however limited they might of Form

"Attributes," I thought, prompting the menu to disappear and a small window to materialize, displaying Siegfried's—or rather, my—attributes.

[Race: Half Incubus]
[Physical and Mental Attributes: Capped at Average "C"]
[Return to Actual values at age 13]

I couldn't help but sigh inwardly as I examined my attributes, particularly the aspects that seemed to be making my current situation even more challenging. '"Start at the Beginning" and "Earlier Beginning" are really going to make things difficult for a while,' I mused, 'and I definitely don't recall ever encountering a jump called "Rise of Totalitarianism," which only raises more questions. And "Half-Incubus" for my race? That doesn't make any sense; Siegfried was supposed to be a human.'

Frustration welled up within me as I contemplated the mysterious and unsettling nature of my predicament. 'This is definitely the last time I trust myself to an eldritch entity,' I vowed, a mix of determination and resentment simmering beneath the surface.

I couldn't deny the challenging circumstances I found myself in. 'Well, there's not much I can do to change that at the moment,' I acknowledged, 'and it seems like I don't have a single perk or ability to rely on right now. Everything here has to be earned through some event or quest. I'm not thrilled about how I designed Siegfried's world, but dwelling on it won't get me anywhere, especially if the British are on the verge of capturing this colony with me in it.'

As I grappled with the impending crisis, a series of questions swirled through my mind. 'How am I supposed to address this situation? Would the British soldiers harm a child? And where are Siegfried's parents in all of this? Moreover, I don't know German, but fortunately, it seems like even with my attributes capped at "C", the "Polyglot" skill should still be accessible, considering it was part of the body modification.'

Amidst the chaotic backdrop of gunfire and screams, I paused for a moment, the reality of my predicament sinking in. 'Wait... how exactly is a 4-year-old supposed to act?' I mused, trying to wrap my head around the challenge of navigating this world from the perspective of a young child. The urgency of the situation only grew as I grappled with the need to adapt to my newfound circumstances.
