In this chapter, Neville will get in trouble for helping Sirius Black get his hands on Mary. No worries, Mary will be safe...but he should have been more careful

Especially given that they're a deranged maniac nearby.

And no, Neville didn't do it on purpose. He is no dark wizard. Though you're welcome to write a fanfic portraying him as such. Don't they do that with Ron?

Maybe I'll split this fanfic in two parts like the LEGO Harry Potter games.

Have you heard of them?

It's nice seeing an affectionate parody of the Harry Potter movies.

You probably won't get what's going if you haven't seen the movies though.

And yes, I'm playing those games. I like how there's so many characters that you can unlock.

Chapter 35: Neville's In Sirius Trouble

One night at Hogwarts Castle, the Gryffindors noted that the fat lady had mysteriously disappeared.

Someone had scared her away.

"How are we going to get in?" asked Ron. Did they need to talk to Albus Dumbledore? He might know what to do in this situation. He was once a Gryffindor student after all.

Hopefully she would come back soon.

Sleeping on the floor wasn't their idea of fun. Their idea of fun was playing Quidditch. Though they wasn't sure if that was such a good idea with the Dementors flying around.

Was it Sirius Black who had scared the Fat Lady away? Mary was a Gryffindor after all. So it made sense that Sirius would go to the Gryffindor House.

"I can't help but feel worried for Mary's safety." noted Ron. If Mary wasn't safe at Hogwarts, then where would she be safe?

Somehow, Sirius Black had managed to get inside Hogwarts Castle. Even though there were dementors looking for him.

How would they spot him, anyway? To his knowledge, dementors did not have eyes.

"How would Black get in, anyway? The stairs turn into a slide whenever a peeping tom tries to break in." questioned Ginny.

It seemed like a waste of time to her.

And yes, she was grateful for that.

"I don't think it would stop a sufficiently determined attacker. There is a way to disenchant the stairs...though I obviously won't be telling the boys how." explained Hermione.

She was not an object.

Presumably, Sirius had managed to get his hands on a wand of some kind. Perhaps he had stolen it from a wand shop. Mary could only hope that Ollivander was doing alright.

If he did manage to get his hands on his wand, then this was not good, because the last time he had one, he had killed over a dozen people. That was something that made the headlines, whether you were a Muggle or a wizard.

Of course, it was pretty bad that he had managed to break out in the first place.

"Wait, how did he know the password?" asked Mary.

Did he force someone to reveal who it was?

Given how brave the Gryffindors were, it would be hard for Sirius to get someone to give them the password.

It was then that Neville realized he had made a serious mistake.

He had been carrying a paper with the password written on it, since he had a hard time remembering it.

But unfortunately, he had dropped it, and Sirius must have found it.

McGonagall was not happy with Neville at all.

Because of him, Mary could have died.

She would have gone from being the girl who lived to being the girl who got killed by a deranged maniac who loves killing Muggles. She didn't mind being on the headlines but she wanted to stay out of the obituaries.

McGonagall was not happy with Neville. At all.

He had really gone and done it this time.

"Neville, you're banned from Hogsmeade!" exclaimed McGonagall.

Neville cried.

Not long afterwards, Neville received a howler from his grandmother.

Apparently, he had been the most careless boy in Hogwarts history.

Because of that, he had put Mary at risk.

He felt very guilty about what he did to Mary.

"You're lucky nobody was hurt!" exclaimed Neville's grandmother.

He certainly was.

Dumbledore decided to approach Mary.

"Yes, professor?" asked the girl who lived but was now being hunted by a psycho.

"I think it would be best if you don't enter Hogsmeade for the time being." suggested the man.

"How come?" asked Mary. She had her permission slip signed.

"You'd be much safer in Hogwarts than you would be at Hogsmeade." explained Dumbledore.

After all, Hogwarts had defensive enchantments in place.

"I suppose you have a point." answered the teenage girl.

If she was in Hogsmeade, it would be harder for her teachers to keep an eye on her.

Though she had to admit, going to Hogsmeade was awful fun. It was a shame that she would have to miss out.

But it would be better than having Sirius Black stab her in the back with a knife.

Mary had a hard time sleeping that night, knowing that Sirius Black had tried to break into the girls' dormitory and kill her while she had been sleeping.

And to make matters worse, Hermione had most likely been in danger as well.

As such, she was sleepy when her alarm went off.

This unfortunately had a negative impact on her studies.

Having said that, the teachers provided Mary with sympathy, seeing as Sirius Black was after her.

They provided her with sweets from Hogsmeade.

"Thanks a bunch!" exclaimed the teenage girl. She would make sure to brush her teeth after eating them. Even if Madam Pomfrey had spells that assisted with dental work.

They promised they would do their best to make sure nothing happened to her.

Mary had to admit, it was surprising that a Gryffindor had gone bad.

Hagrid said all the dark wizards originated from Slytherin.

But then again, she heard that Quirrell happened to be a Ravenclaw.

So maybe that wasn't entirely true.

Mary noticed that Neville was looking rather lonely.

"Hey, Neville!" exclaimed Mary.

"You're not going to Hogsmeade?" asked Neville. Everyone else seemed to be going there.

"Dumbledore said it wasn't safe." spoke the girl. Until Sirius Black was caught, it would be best if she remained on Hogwarts grounds.

"I'm so sorry about what happened at the dorm! I helped Sirius Black break in!" exclaimed the teenage boy.

"It's OK. I've had a hard time remembering the passcode too." noted Mary.

She made sure to repeat it to herself from time to time.

"You're not mad?" asked Neville.

"We all make mistakes." noted Mary.

Like Dudley did when he decided to punch somebody when a teacher was watching. She could only hope that he was keeping out of trouble.

She wondered what the Dursley family got for Christmas. Were they having a good time, just as she was?

As it turned out, Vernon had received a jury duty notice.

"Are you kidding me!?" bellowed the man.

This was not how he intended to spend his holidays.

To be fair, he did get to spend the holidays away from Mary. He was hard-pressed to admit it, but sending Mary to Hogwarts had its perks. Though Petunia had been more fond of her ever since she got rid of Marge.

Neville sighed in relief upon realizing that Mary wasn't mad at him. It would break his heart if Mary could never forgive him for something.

One thing was for sure, he was not going to make that mistake again.

"I remember when I accidentally inflated my aunt using magic." noted Mary.

"Really?" questioned Neville.

"Yeah...sometimes my magic is uncontrollable." spoke the girl.

Though given how happy Petunia was, she didn't feel too guilty about it. She just hoped that her magic was more stable in the future. It seemed to stabilize once wizards came of age, judging from how the wizard laws worked.

Mary decided to show Ron her new broom.

Given that he was a Quidditch fan, it seemed like a good idea.

Perhaps she could give her old broom to somebody as a present.

Why not pay it forward?

"No way! I've always dreamt of having one of those!" exclaimed Ron. Who knew how much money those brooms cost? They didn't come cheap, he knew that much.

Of course, he would never dream it of stealing from Mary.

"This is turning out to be one heck of a Christmas." remarked Mary.

"Who sent it to you?" asked Ron.

"Huh. Now that I think of it...I don't recall who sent it to me." noted the teenage girl.

'Maybe they forgot?" asked Ron.

This made Mary feel worried.

Was this broomstick not what it appeared to be?

It did seem to be a little too good to be true.

"Hmm, this might be a trap. Remember the first year when Quirrell jinxed the broom?" pointed out the bespectacled girl.

"Huh. For once you should look a gift pegasus in the mouth." remarked Ron. He had forgotten that he was a murderer that was hunting her down. He really hoped that he didn't spoil her Christmas.

She decided to give it to Professor McGonagall for testing.

As exciting as it was to ride a Firebolt, she didn't want to it to set her on fire.

"That's a great idea, Mary. We'll let you know if there are any hexes on it." noted the professor.

That free Firebolt did seem a little bit too good to be true.

It would take some time before the testing was completed, but it was better safe than sorry.

What if the Firebolt took her to the moon?

Fortunately, the results for the test came up negative.

The Firebolt was not designed to send Mary to her grave.

"Whew!" exclaimed Mary. She was still wondering why that present was anonymous, but it was definitely exciting to know that she could ride the Firebolt to her heart's content.

It looked like she could indeed use the broom to play Quidditch. It would be pretty nice considering that the Dementors had caused her to lose against Hufflepuff. Though that would decidedly be preferable to losing to Slytherin. Maybe this would prevent her from losing again for a while.

She had to admit, this new broom sounded awful fun.

It could go 150 miles an hour.

That sounded perfect for catching the golden snitch...which coincidentally was worth that same amount of points.

She would make sure to fly it on Hogwarts grounds, however.

She didn't know for sure if Sirius Black had a broomstick of his own, but it was better safe than sorry.

Mary wondered if she should bring her invisibility cloak with her at all times.

It would be a great way to hide from Sirius Black.

Malfoy realized that Mary had gotten a Firebolt.

He could not believe what he was hearing.

"Mary got a Firebolt? Are you freaking kidding me?!" bellowed Draco.

In his opinion, that just wasn't fair.

How was he going to beat her in Quidditch now?

He really was at a disadvantage.

Though it didn't help that he had a tendency to neglect his training. His teammates were annoyed that he thought he was perfect and didn't need to attend training.

Didn't he remember the time that Mary had caught the Golden Snitch and won against Slytherin? Even when there a rogue bludger after her?

The next day, Lupin decided to introduce his class to Boggarts.

The idea of a creature that would take your greatest fear was really frightening.

The Boggart was currently hiding in a cupboard.

It was helpful for students to face the Boggart as a team.

That way the Boggart would have a harder time deciding what to shapeshift into.

"I wonder what a Boggart really looks like." questioned Mary. It always seemed to be able to sense whenever someone was nearby.

"It's a mystery that may never be solved." noted Lupin. He was curious as to what a Boggart looked like in its default state himself.

Mary wondered what Draco Malfoy's greatest fear was.

As it turned out, it was himself...with a pimple.

"Nooooo! My perfect face!' screamed Draco, pressing his hands against his head.

Draco ran out of the room crying.

It was Neville's turn next.

His fear was Severus Snape.

"Is this Defense against the Dark Arts or Potions Class?" asked Mary.

"I don't think that's the real deal." explained Hermione.

"Thank goodness." spoke Neville.

"Cast the Boggart-Banishing Charm." instructed Lupin.

Neville nodded and said Ridikkulus.

The Boggart was now wearing his grandmother's clothing.

The students couldn't help but laugh.

This lesson went from being scary to being funny.

Ron's fear happened to be Aragog.

He cast the spell and the spider turned into a cute spider plush toy.

He sighed in relief.

Though he did still find that plushie to be a little scary.

Hermione's fear was failing her exams.

Sure enough, Professor McGonagall was showing her that she had failed.

Apparently, she had gotten a Troll on one exam.

And yes, it was similar to Neville's fear of Severus Snape. Though Neville also worried that he would dock points from Gryffindor. Some teachers were biased towards specific houses. Though the other houses had nothing to fear from Professor McGonagall. She enjoyed some popularity with them for that reason.

She cast the spell and it became outstanding instead.

'Am I going to face my fear next?" asked Mary.

"I was worried that it might transform into a wizard you're all too familiar with." noted Lupin.

He didn't want to scare the students out of the classroom.

Though this exercise WAS designed to help students face their fears.

He decided that he would have Mary take her test after every other student had left.

Suddenly, the Boggart shapeshifted again.

It shapeshifted into a Dementor.

As it turned out, Mary's fear was not Lord Voldemort. Possibly because she had already defeated him twice.

The Dementor-Boggart attempted to scare Mary.

"Hold on, your fear is fear itself. You're a wise girl, Mary." spoke Lupin.

Apparently, he didn't have anything to worry about after all.

Mary cast the spell and the Dementor turned into a cutesy sheet ghost.

The Boggart shapeshifted again.

"What's that? A crystal ball?" asked Ron.

Apparently, this was Lupin's fear.

Perhaps he experienced bad fortunes or something.

Maybe he shouldn't visit Professor Trelawney.

The students all passed the test, except for Draco Malfoy since he chickened out.

"Maybe we should have done this lesson around Halloween instead of Christmas." noted Ron.

"Maybe we should." questioned Neville.

Mary was looking forward to her next Quidditch match.

Hopefully things would go better this time.

She would be ready.

It was lucky that Mary managed to survive Sirius Black. But is her luck going to run out?

And yes, Mary won't be going to Hogsmeade for the time being.

It's kind of like her male counterpart. Though there's a different reason for her not going there. As you might know, Harry couldn't get in because he didn't have a signed permission slip. It's not until the end of the book that he managed to get it signed.

But I decided to have Petunia sign the permission slip because I figured it would be funnier that way. I felt like it wouldn't really alter the plot since Harry had a habit of sneaking in.
