He did it.

He saved the multiverse. He saved countless lives.

He faced his fear of being alone in order to save his friends.

Family

Loki takes a deep breath. He allowed the smile to spread across his face as he felt all the timelines course through him. Every being, every life, every event Loki felt it all. Happiness, pain, joy, loss, anger and love every emotion hit the God of Stories like a wave. He relished it, embraced it because after all he is the reason this is all happening. Everyone has free will, a life to live thanks to him.

Loki always said he was burdened with glorious purpose. For a while he did lose his way he let his own anger consume him but then that all changed the moment he was brought to the TVA. Mobius, Sylvie and many others changed him and made him a much better version of himself. They steered him back on the right path and now...now he has finally fulfilled his purpose. He wasn't lost anymore. He is now content and at peace with his decision. Knowing his friends are okay was enough for him. If he has to spend the rest of his life holding the branches together so be it.

If father and brother saw me now.

He chuckled at the thought. A sad chuckle. That was the thing they would never see the sacrifice he made for them they will only remember him as a villain, a monster.

His smile turned into a grimace.

Then he thought of his mother. She wasn't like the others she always saw something special in him. She raised him and taught him about magic.

The same magic that is currently flowing through the branches.

"It's always Thor." He yelled angrily at his Mother. "Why not me?"

His mother sighed softly.

"Loki."

"No!" He raises his finger. His eyes shine with tears. "It's not fair." His voice cracked slightly.

His mother shakes her head.

"Oh darling."

She leans down and cups her son's chin. She encouraged her little boy to look up. He does. She wipes the tears away with her thumb.

"Listen to me. You are special you know that right?"

"But I'm not him."

"No you are not." She nods. "You are my son and I love you so much. Loki." Her hands move to his cheeks. "You may not see it now but you were born for greatness. You will make a difference! "

"But how?" Loki frowns. "Thor will be King."

She gives him an reassuring smile.

"Your time will come. I promise."

"How do you know that?"

Her smile widens.

"I just know."

A tear falls down Loki's face as the memory fades away.

Hope I made you proud mother.

His thoughts drift back to the video Mobius showed him the story of life. He thinks about the one where his brother is over his dead body mourning him. He always wondered what happened to Thor after that. Did he survive?

Does he hate me?

The story of life the moments between him and Thor proved him wrong. Maybe his brother doesn't see him as a monster. Part of Loki wanted to know but another part of him was scared to face the truth

You faced one fear. What's stopping you from facing another?

Loki knew he couldn't leave but there are other ways he could travel.

Loki closes his eyes and tunes the sounds out. He narrows down to one timeline.

His timeline.

The first thing Loki heard was laughter. A child's laughter. Loki frowns. As he got closer he suddenly found himself in a bedroom.

Loki looks around the room. There are drawings stuck all over the walls and crayons and toys scattered across the floor. This a child's bedroom.

Loki walks up to the table and looks down at the photo frame. In the photo are his brother and a girl. Seeing that image triggered something in Loki. He is met with flashes, images that he soon realized are his Brother's memories. One specific memory got Loki's attention. A memory where Thor held his lover in his arms as she passed away.

She died.

Immediately Loki discovered how she died (He is omniscient now after all.) Loki didn't know Jane Foster very well but he knew she meant a lot to his brother. Back then Loki mocked his brother insisted love was a weakness. Loki was wrong love wasn't a weakness instead it made his brother stronger. Jane changed him for the better.

Just like how Sylvie changed him.

Loki's thoughts are interrupted when the door flies open and the girl Loki now knows as Love runs in.

"I'm going to catch you!" A voice boomed across the hallway.

Loki turns round and sees his brother running into the room chasing after the girl. Thor couldn't see him it is Loki's choice on whether he wanted Thor to see him or not. Thor runs oblivious to his brother's presence and tackles Love on the bed.

"Told you!" Thor laughs. "You can't outrun me."

Love scowls but Loki can see the smile creeping across her face. Thor then pulled her in and gave her a hug.

Loki stared at them. The old him would have been jealous of Thor's happiness but now Loki felt relieved for him. He is aware of the pain and loss Thor has gone through he has lost everything. Despite everything that's happened between them Loki loves his brother and he didn't want to see his brother in anymore pain so he was glad Thor has found peace and found his family.

While I lost mine.

Love laughs again. Love's laughter made Loki smile. It is like music to his ears. It also encouraged him to keep going to continue to keep the timelines safe. Moments like this were a light to his darkness, a way to keep him sane.

"Alright sport." Thor pulled away and ruffled the kid's hair. "Time for bed."

"But I'm not tired."

"You will be."

"No."

"Yes."

Love folds her arms and glares at him.

"Don't give me that look." Love's eyes glow. "No using powers inside remember." Love huffs and her eyes return to normal. Thor sighs. "Okay."

"Story."

Thor frowns.

"Huh?"

"Tell me a story."

"A story?"

She nods.

"If I do that will you then go to sleep?"

She again nods.

"Promise."

Another nod.

"Promise." She said.

Thor again sighs.

"Okay." He grabs a chair and pulls it forward. He sits down and slaps his thighs. "Right."

He runs his hand through his hair his eyes narrow in thought. Thor then started telling Love the stories of Asgard. To Loki's surprise Thor mentioned him but there was no hostility or hatred in his voice instead there was warmth and love. Thor smiled fondly as he thought back to the good old days. Once the story finished Love begun asking questions.

"Where is your brother now?"

The smile fades from Thor's face.

"Gone." He said the guilt evident in his voice. "I couldn't save him."

Thor lowers his head and closes his eyes. Loki wanted to reveal himself and shout "I'm here you idiot!" but instead he decided to remain silent and waited to see where this conversation would go.

"Do you miss him?" Love asked.

Thor looks at her and nods.

"Very much."

That was it that was the confirmation Loki needed. The God of Stories felt tears form in his eyes. Relief poured through him when he realized Thor still loved him. Thor never rejected him. Loki smiled through the tears as Thor stands up.

"Right, I done my part now you do yours."

Love pouts.

"Fine."

She snuggled down under the covers. Thor leans over and kisses her on the forehead.

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight." Love yawned. Her eyes droop as Thor switched off the light and made his way to the door. "Love you." She suddenly said.

Thor looks over his shoulder and grins at her.

"Love you too."

Loki shakes his head. It amazed him how much his brother has matured. He followed his brother out of the room. Thor sits on the couch with his legs up on the table. Thor sighs and leans back on the couch.

"I wish you can see this brother."

Loki huffed a smile.

You have no idea.

Loki wanted to show himself but decided not to. He will only end up leaving Thor in a world of pain again. Loki knew his brother wouldn't be able to accept his new role he will keep trying to save him and Loki didn't want Thor to give up his life for him. Thor is at peace now and Loki will ensure it stays that way.

Loki leans over his brother's shoulder.

"I miss you too brother." He said.

Then he vanished.

Thor startled from his seat. He stands up and looks around the room. Thor could have sworn he heard something or more like someone.

"Brother?"

Thor then shakes his head. Loki is gone it is his mind playing tricks on him. It is the grief talking. Yet in a strange way those words brought on a sense of comfort to Thor, an reassurance that is everything is going to be okay.

Thor's lips tug upwards as he picks up a beer and does a salute.

To Loki.

Loki couldn't stop watching her.

Seeing her smiling and laughing made him happy. Good that's how things should be. He chose this so she especially could live her life. Sylvie has spent most of her life running but now she has finally found a place she can call home. A home Loki will ensure stays alive for her.

There was still so many things he wanted to say to her the kiss, their bond, his feelings but in the end he decided to let her go. It would be selfish of him to make her stay just so he wouldn't be alone. Sometimes the best to do for the people you love is to let them go.

Loki wasn't sure if she ever felt the same way about him. He wondered if their relationship was one-sided. The God of Stories sighs. Guess it now didn't matter. What's done is done.

Suddenly Loki hears a voice. A soft voice calling out to him.

"Hey you."

Loki turns his head.

Through the timelines he saw her appear in front of him. His eyes widen in shock he is too stunned to speak.

"Cat got your tongue?" She tried to joke. Loki shakes his head. His shock turns into worry.

"What are you doing here?"

"Sightseeing." She answered sarcastically. Then she rolls her eyes. "I'm here to see you."

"But...why?"

She responds with another eye roll.

"You being serious?"

He stared at her.

She sighs. After a few moments of silence she says.

"We never did get to say goodbye."

"No." He replied. "We didn't"

She pursed her lips. She looks curiously at the branches.

"Does it hurt?"

"Its not that bad."

"Loki."

"Its fine." He gives her a look to say 'Drop it'. Then his face turned puzzled. "How did you get here anyway?"

"Tem pad."

"Ah."

"Yeah." Sylvie opens her jacket and gets out a paper bag. "I brought you nuggets."

Loki frowns.

"What?"

"I thought there would be no food where you are so I thought..."

She waves the bag. He gives her a 'Seriously?' look.

"Sylvie, I'm holding the timelines together and you...you are offering me...nuggets?"

She glares at him. Then she sighs and lowers the bag.

"Anything else?" He spat out. He didn't mean to be harsh to her but this wasn't part of the plan she is supposed out there living her life not being here with him.

"Yes." Sylvie looks up at him. "I'm here to say thank you...for everything. What you did...for us I will be forever grateful."

He forced a smile.

"It was nothing."

"Carrying the multiverse on your back is nothing huh?"

He grins.

"I've had worse."

He can see in her face she wasn't buying it.

"I can't stop thinking about you." She admits.

That surprised him.

"Since you come back I...I haven't been able to stop thinking about you and everything we have been through."

"You are happy right?" Loki asked sounding desperate. He is sure she looked happy on the timeline.

"I am...I am happy I like my life but knowing you are out here..." She grimaced at the sight.

"Sylvie I said I'm fine." He tried to assure her. "I made my decision and I don't regret it..any of it."

He looks at her as he said it. His eyes linger on her lips. He quickly looks away before she notices.

"I wish I can help you." She said sadly.

"Believe me." Loki nods. "You helped me a lot."

You made me a better God.

She steps forward. Loki warned her to stop but she kept going until she is standing directly in front of him.

"It's okay." She assured him. "We're the same nothing will happen to me."

She looks at his hands that are tightly wrapped around the branches. His eyes blow wide as she leans forward.

"It wasn't just about the TVA." She said softly. "I know that now but...I can't go on knowing you are here."

"I made my..."

"I know you made your choice but that doesn't mean you have to be alone."

"I can't leave." His voice broke as he said it. "There is nothing you can do for me. Go and live your life Sylvie don't worry about me."

"Or maybe I can do both." He frowns at her. "Live my life but also be with you." She continued. "I can visit."

"No!"

His sudden change in tone caused her to go back in surprise.

"I am not bringing you down with me."

"You are not doing that because this would be my decision. I want to do this. Loki...Do you want to be alone for the rest of your life?"

"I'm..."

"Don't say you are fine."

His lips press tightly together.

"Loki."

He swallows. Then.

"No."

His response is quiet, so broken, so full of pain. A tear slides down his cheek.

"Well that's settled then. I'll pop by whenever I can." She then smiles. "You go I go. Remember?"

He tried to protest tried to stop it but knew it would be useless Lokis are stubborn but knowing she cared knowing she still wanted to see him caused warmth to spread across his chest.

She shakes her head.

"I know its not much."

"No." Loki nods and gives her a shaky smile. "It's enough. It means a lot...Thank you."

He wanted to reach out for her but his hand remained wrapped around the branches. It pained him that he couldn't touch her but at least he knew their connection is still there alive and strong.

Sylvie managed to summon up another chair. She took a seat across from him the bag of nuggets on her lap. She popped one nugget into her mouth.

"You sure you don't want one?" She asked. She gives him a teasing grin. "I can put it in your mouth if you like?"

He rolls his eyes.

"I'm not a baby."

"You are acting like one."

He huffed at that. Then he gives in.

"Fine I'll try one."

Seconds later Sylvie sits on his lap and she pops a nugget into his mouth. He swallows it.

"Well?"

His face screws up.

"It was okay?" He lied.

"Seriously?"

"I guess I could try one more?" He said not wanting her to move just yet.

So she pops another one into his mouth. This time he said he liked it. It wasn't the nugget he liked what he liked is having her close to him like this. It felt right somehow.

Sylvie begun talking about her life. Her job, her friends. He listened as she went on. He loved listening to her. He loved the way her eyes lit up and the smile that grew on her face as she spoke about her new home. When she finished her story she looked at him like she was waiting for him to say something. Few moments later Loki clears his throat.

"Thor has a child."

That knocked her off guard.

"What?"

"Its not his but...He umm adopted her...He is umm...He is a father." He laughs. "Weird right?"

"Thor has a kid. So I guess that makes you an uncle?"

Loki never thought about that before. He huffed a small smile.

"Yes I guess it does."

It goes silent. Then Sylvie sighs and stands up.

"Well I better get going. Jack is going to wonder where I am and I don't want to get the sack."

"Uh yeah." His eyes lower trying his best to hide his disappointment. "You do that."

"I'll see you soon." She nods. "And that's a promise. I'll bring a burger next time."

The mention of next time immediately cheered him up again.

"Goodbye Sylvie." He said.

"Loki." She smiles. "We're not doing goodbyes."

He chuckles at that.

"Right."

"Hmm."

She gets out the tem pad. She gives him a final nod before going through the time door.

Loki watched her go. A feeling of hope rose in him. Hope she will return hope that they will get through this. Together.

He focused on her timeline and watched as she stepped into the restaurant's car park. She suddenly looks up and smiles brightly. Loki knew she is smiling at him. He smiles back.

The image dissolves as he sits back. He takes a deep breath and exhales heavily. Loki has fulfilled his glorious purpose and this time...

...This time he wasn't alone.

The End

Damm what an ending to the show. Loki's character development was an absolute joy to watch it was beautiful but it does break my heart knowing he ends up alone when last week he admitted he didn't want to be alone. I loved this season but I am disappointed with how the writers handled Loki and Sylvie's relationship and how they wrote Sylvie as well it was like everything between them in season 1 never happened. Yes there was some hints in season 2 and he did sacrifice himself so she and everyone else can live their lives but I don't like how their bond and their connection was just shoved to the side given how important they were in season 1. It made me miss their relationship from season 1.

I am very mixed feelings regarding Sylvie I felt she was kinda sidelined as well I expected her to have more of a big role in this season I mean yes she did help steer Loki in the right direction he did listen to what she said at times but what happened to together? You go I go? What happened to all that? I just thought there was no closure between them no talk of that kiss, the fight everything they been through there was nothing. Now she is going to go and live her life while he is imprisoned na that don't sit right with me at all. I wanted to acknowledge that bond they shared. We saw how Sylvie was every time she went away from him, we saw how she was in the music store I believe she did feel something towards him as well but neither side would open up about their feelings. Lokis are stubborn lol! I thought about when Sylvie looked for him when he was pruned I decided to have her finding him again they can't ignore what they have even if they end up as just friends it is better than nothing also I saw a comment that said Sylvie sitting on Loki's lap as she feeds him nuggets while he is holding the branches together and ahh I couldn't help myself. :D

I decided to include Thor because I wanted Loki to have closure I wanted him to see that Thor does love him. The writers have teased about a Loki and Thor reunion I hope that happens I don't want any version of Loki I want this version of Loki meeting Thor I want Thor to see how far his brother has come.

I do have to applaud Tom Hiddleston for bringing Loki to life he has been amazing! :D I do hope Loki will make a future appearance *Fingers crossed.*
