Long after they first became heroes, they became parents. X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, Defenders Members, Alpha Flight Members, Inhumans alike. But a chaotic event led to them beginning the Protector Initiative, which dictates that a voted protector would guard the children. Much like Earth-555326, Relationships such as Steve Rogers and Natalia Romanova blossom, and they are heartbroken of the idea of potentially leaving their kids, never to see them again...

James POV

Come on... James pulled himself up closer. I finally did it! 200 Pullups!

The speaker in James' Cabana rang out. "Attendance is in 30 seconds."

CRAP! I must have zoned out while exercising. James proceeded to run, while pulling his shirt back on, to the Mess hall.

"Camacho, Eleanor?" Charles Xavier called out, reaching the end of the list.

"Here, professor." Ellie Camacho said.

As James tried to sneak to his seat, he heard his name.

"Ah, James Rodgers-Romanova. Late. Again." Charles Xavier, the protector of all of the children for about five years now, was death glaring James.

"Come on, Professor. You know why I was late."

"Training again? Trying to beat 200 pull ups?"

"Succeeding." James smirked.

Charles sighed. "Sit, James. Eat up, training with Wade is brutal today." The last part was directed towards everyone.

Groans echoed through the hall.

"Eat!" Charles said with a calm rage in his voice.

As James ate, his mind wondered back to his last memory of his parents, a memory from 5 years ago.

"James! You ok?" James' s father spoke with care. James had just fallen from the porch.

"I'm fine, dad."

"James hurt?" the voice of James' two year old sister, Mia, fell to his ears. He kips up, and runs over to his mother, who is holding Mia.

"I'm fine, Mia."

A phone rings. James' father picks it up.

"Got it." James' father hung up the phone. "Nat, they have called all heroes. We are told to follow the procedures of the Protectors Initiative."

"Got it." James' Mother replied.

Before James knew it, he was on his father's shoulders. "Come on, Steve!" James' mother called to his father. They soon arrive at a weird, large door. Outside the door is a bald man in a wheelchair.

"Charles." James' father said, nodding to the bald man.

The bald man gestured to an armored agent. "Take the kids inside. Actually, wait a second."

James' mother leaned down and set Mia, now asleep, in his arms. "Take care of your little sister." James' mother told him. He nodded.

"Hey, don't be scared." James' Father said. James saluted.

"Ok, SIR!"

As James' memory faded, he realized he was alone in the mess hall, except for Charles.

"Zoned out, James?" Charles asked.

"Yeah. Sorry." James apologized.

"You get going. Wade's going to be mad."

"He's going to crack a joke." James retorted.

"Fair."


James arrived at the training grounds. Mr. Wilson was waiting.

"James. Your classmates have all gotten started on Durability/Mind training. You should join them." Mr. Wilson said.

"Didn't we do durability/mind last week?" James asked.

"Yes, but on the training day last week, Jacob fell behind on Durability."

James understood. "Strong of mind, weak of flesh?"

Mr. Wilson nodded.

"Get Going. Maybe if you work hard, Laura will finally notice you." Mr. Wilson winked. James blushed, but got started. For durability/mind, he had to take shots from an airsoft gun and still focus on hitting his target. As usual, James outclassed the others. Of course he did, he was the eldest and the most mature, but only just older than Laura. He and Laura were born the same year, a month apart, and on the same day. (James was born on 08/20/2011, Laura on 07/20/2011). To be honest, James wanted Laura to be his girlfriend.

He suddenly heard a crowd cheering for him. "Come on James, you can beat Mr. Banner's high score!" The scoreboard had the high score labeled as 1,489,350. James was rapidly approaching by hitting the target faster than most could. He checked the scoreboard. He was at 1,215,930. The end of game bell rung as James stopped at...

1,489,340.

A. Single. Hit. Away. The students around him groaned. He smiled, as he was content with his score.

"Show off." Mia's voice said as the other students dispersed.

"I didn't want a crowd to watch me. They just gathered."

"Admit it, you were performing for Laura, trying to get her to notice you." James didn't blush, revealing that he wasn't worried about impressing Laura at any point in the game.

"Nice. Still didn't beat my score yet, James. You, once again, fell short." a familiar voice said.

"True, Mr. Banner. You know I'm not trying, though."

"You ready for tomorrow's training of Strength?" Mr. Banner asked.

"Yep." James affirmed.


"Come On, James. Keep up" Jack called out to James.

"Jack, wait!" Jack ran ahead. A blue pulse rings out, and Jack falls dead. A voice echoes in James' mind.

"I will find all of you, young heroes. James, your father fights, and he dies."


James bolted awake.

Who said that? He hadn't just heard those words in his nightmare, he heard them in real life. They were what woke him.


"GO JAMES!" Mia and Jack, James' best Friend, were in the stands. James was Fist fighting Laura as a test of strength. They were the champions of their respected halves of the tournament.

James sidestepped a punch from Laura. She jumped over his leg as he tried to do a sweeping spin kick. As she lands and recovers, he lands a punch to her face. she stumbles. He proceeds with his assault, but she recovers quickly. James lunges to land a hook, she judo flips him.

He does a landing roll before sweeping again successfully, and lands an uppercut on a falling Laura.

"Ouch." Laura says as she gets back up, the match having been called James' victory.

"Sorry. You Ok?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. The match is about fighting, is it not?" Laura responded.

"Yes."


James began doing his nightly pullups.

1... 2... 3... 4... 5... 6... 7... 8... 9... 10...

James thought back to the events of the day. Laura, the closest student to his level (according to Charles Xavier), had seemed annoyed with him since the match.

24... 25... 26... 27... 28... 29.. 30... 31...

Have I blown my chances? James pondered.

I hope not.


Laura POV

"Really? You lost!" Ami and Avi, twin daughters of Spider-Man, were looking at Laura, only child of Hawkeye, in an Upset Manner.

"Yeah..."

"You know, James, James Rogers-Romanova, the son of FREAKING CAPTAIN AMERICA, is the top student right?" Ami reminded Laura.

"Yeah, so?"

"So, You need to golpearlo para llamar su atención." Avi said, slipping into Spanish, which had been a reoccurring problem since she began learning it at 3.

"Um... I don't speak Spanish." Laura said.

Avi looked confused until she realized that she had slipped into spanish again. "Right, sorry. I said you need to beat him to get his attention. Before you interrupted me, I was gonna say that once he says a compliment about your skills, you start flirting!"

"That sounds dumb, and I tried! What else should I try?" Laura cried out.

"SHUSH!" Azari, the next door neighbor and son of T'Challa, the Black Panther, and Ororo Munroe, Storm, yelled.

"Sorry." Laura whispered.

"You could try just flirting, but you remember how that went last time, right?" Avi says.

Laura's mind flashed with images of James at the water fountain, her stammering, her tripping over her arrow, which fell out of her quiver. She had woken up hours later in the hospital area with a new scar, only to be told that James had to carry her here and she was the cause of him missing class that day. "Don't remind me."

"Ok. Then what-" Ami started.

"-we suggested is-" Avi continues.

"-your only option." They say at the same time

Laura groans. "Ok. Fine. You guys should head back to your Cabanas. It's getting late. We'll be lucky if Azari doesn't tell on us for visiting each other after curfew,"

"K." Avi says.

"Alright." Ami agrees.

"Goodnight." They all say at once.


Ellie POV

LATE, LATE, LATE! Ellie ran, trying to get to class. Her shoes clicked against the ground as she ran.

"Finally, Camacho, Ellie?"

Ellie heard her name, vaguely, as she approached the building.

"Late." Charles says right as she enters.

"Sorry, Ellie. You're officially late for the first time in the last 5 years," said Tommy Maximoff, son of the Scarlet Witch and Vision.

"Shut up, Thomas!" Ellie said.

"Sit, Ms. Camacho." Charles said.

Ellie huffed as she walked towards her seat.


"C'mon El. You, Late? Yeah right." These words came from Wade Wilson, Her father and teacher of Durability class. He is also the fourth Protector of the dome.

"I don't know what happened. My alarm must've been set to go off late by someone. It went off at 7:38, only giving me 20 minutes to prepare."

"Odd... Well, get going to your bunker before curfew."

"Ok, bye dad!" Ellie hugged her father.
