Keep At It

Had it always been this hard to concentrate in class? She hadn't thought so before but...maybe it had been? She really wasn't sure anymore.

The morning had gone by rather quickly now that she was doing something other than normal.

Well...now that things were normal again she should say. Things had been so very un-normal for so long that she'd actually forgotten what it was like to sit in class and just...pay attention. She didn't have to do anything and yet she struggled to do all of the nothing. All of the sitting still was awful.

Ambur had only been back at the school for a day and she was already antsy. Not to mention she couldn't keep her eyes off of her partner. Above all else, he was what had been distracting her. Just being beside him again was nearly intoxicating. She'd spent their entire Junior year living at home. Sure he was able to sleep over once in a while but more often than not he was out on missions or simply had school early in the morning.

Her parents lived upstairs after all and they couldn't very well be intimate with that hovering above them. Last night was the first time they'd slept in the same bed with no clothes on in over a year and she'd barely slept. Neither of them had but at least Mydnight was in the swing of being at school. Getting no sleep the night before starting classes had done her no favors. 'Well...okay that's not true,' she smirked to herself weakly as the previous night's events flooded her mind.

Maybe she was tired but gods...oh gods she was so glad to be back where she belonged. Anything paled in comparison to sleeping in the same bed with no distractions with the wolf boy. Her hands slipped across their long auditorium-style desk and her fingers caught his. She tried her best to keep her eyes forward but couldn't help but steal a glance at him. His smirk was plain for all to see and she felt his thumb run across the back of her hand gently.

He managed to keep his eyes forward though unlike her and she huffed to herself. It was just so boring. How did she ever do this every single day over and over again? At least she had him to sit beside her so she could lose herself and rely on him to be there when she needed help. He wasn't the greatest student of all time but he was hers and that's all that had ever mattered to Ambur.

All those days laid up in bed or in therapy and all she ever wanted was this. To simply exist beside the boy that loved her.

Ambur had been worried more than anything about the fog that had settled over Mydnight during their first year at the school. They'd learned first hand that Mydnight needed a lot of intimate contact and a shining light to lead him through it and she was terrified that during her time away he would grow bored of waiting for her.

He hadn't though. They'd been surprised to find that he seemingly had no more trouble controlling the wolf or his desires at all after...what had happened.

She still couldn't let herself think about it. Any time the thoughts of that spider made their way into her head she felt like she needed to run, even though her legs went numb each time.

She was thankful that their first night had been so exhausting for more than one reason though. It meant that she'd slept soundly for the first time in ages. No dreams, no nightmares, just precious, silent sleep. She huffed at the irony. Now she was the one that needed it. Now she was the one that needed a shining beacon to keep her focussed.

As the bell finally rang the pair stood, collected their things, and headed out into the hallways of the school.

"So?" He asked passively, still holding her hand as they headed toward the dorm building.

"Awful," she admitted and he chuckled. "I can't focus at all."

"Oh come on," he said as he continued to laugh. "You don't like staring at Port for an hour and a half straight?" He gasped and she elbowed him gently in the ribs.

"Real shocker right?" She laughed with him. "You know I'd rather look at you."

"Welllll I'm not the teacher," he shrugged. "Can't help you with that."

"I mean we could pretend," she said snarkily and poked her finger into his chest. As the pair entered the dorm building she leaned across the short space between them and whispered into his ear. "I've got the schoolgirl uniform and everything."

She saw the hairs on his tail begin to stand on end for a moment before he shook his head and shoved his shoulder against hers lightly. The pair broke into laughter as they climbed the stairs toward their room. "Yeah I guess you could," he chuckled.

"Unless you'd rather be my student," she thought aloud. "I'd be okay with that too."

"Jeesh," he snorted. "Yeah, I'd probably like that," Mydnight shrugged.

"Oh I'd make sure of it," she said as she squeezed his hand a little tighter. They made it to their room and shut the door behind them. The pair dropped their bags and Ambur had him pinned to the wall in only another heartbeat.

Her lips pressed to his and she drank in the long slow kiss that she'd been daydreaming about all day.

"Haven't had your fill huh?" He laughed when she pulled back.

"If I ever tell you that I've had my fill of you then you better just kill me," she smiled as her cheeks flushed red. "I could never," she gasped as she pressed her lips back to his.

She'd been hungry for him for nearly two years now and she wasn't about to waste any of their alone time. Sure the room could be lonely sometimes but now they were the only two students that lived in it. She felt his fingertips slide up her hips and under her bust before they pressed into each of her breasts and she actually laughed through their kiss. "Weird of you to go for those first for once," she chuckled and sent him into laughter too.

"What? I can't appreciate both?" He snickered and watched her teeth clamp down on her bottom lip.

"You can," her breath was hot on his mouth. "You just usually go for the other curves first," she observed and pressed her lips back to his for a moment. "I don't much care where you touch me, to be honest," she gasped and kissed him again. She began to fumble with the buttons on his uniform and in seconds she'd stripped him of it and his undershirt.

"Soooo sorry that you've got the whole package," he stressed in a sarcastic tone and they laughed against each other's lips.

"Hmmm," she smiled against his lips before she moved to his throat and began to press nips and kisses into his skin. This always made him shiver and she loved feeling him squirm. All his admissions of not minding being the bottom in the relationship had really encouraged her to be a more confident partner and she was a bit shocked at first to find just how much she enjoyed the role. She thought it would be weird, dictating the course of their intimacy but she'd found along the way that not only did she like it, she was actually rather good at it.

Well, if the way he always reacted to the way she touched him was anything to go by then she was good at it. Her fingers pressed into his chest and kept him pinned to the door as she pressed a longer kiss into his neck. She raised herself back up and moved in close enough that their lips were only just a breath away. She could feel his breath on her and she so wanted to kiss him but she held herself back for a moment.

She felt him squirm beneath her strength as he tried to lean forward and kiss her. He looked so desperate for it, staring back at her through slitted golden eyes filled with desire and wanting. Part of her almost felt sorry for it, but mostly she loved to savor the way he looked at her. Like he didn't just want her to kiss him. Like he needed it. Like all the world didn't matter in comparison to the feel of her lips against his.

Two years ago if he looked at her like this she didn't know what she'd have done. Back when he was in the fog and she knew he needed attention, a look like the one on his face right now would have been a serious crossroads. Would she have been able to say no? Thankfully by the time they had kissed like this for the first time Mydnight had been able to control himself.

Now she could enjoy the teasing all she wanted because Mydnight knew how to keep the wolf at bay. Now she didn't have to worry about him transforming against his will and tearing her to shreds. Ambur licked her lips slowly from one side to the other before she finally planted them against his. She felt him groan through the vibrations in his mouth and the feeling nearly made her jump back. She had missed this. Missed him.

And it made her happy to no end knowing that he'd missed her too.

Last night she'd wanted him so badly that she couldn't keep her lips off of him. No time to think or to play with him. Just bodies and heat. Now though...now she could slow down and enjoy herself.

Ambur ran her hands up his throat from his chest and into his hair. She was so glad he'd grown it back out. So much easier to grab onto when it wasn't cut short like it had been last year. She had liked how clean-cut he'd been, and she'd have loved the way he looked either way, but she had to acknowledge that she preferred him this way.

"Hungry wolf-boy?" She cooed into his fluffy ears and she could see his tremble.

"Always," he chuckled breathlessly.

"Do me a favor then huh?" She mused before she started to put pressure on him. He slid down against the door and she could see the wicked smirk forming across his lips.

Mydnight sank to his knees between her and their door. Ambur's thighs parted and he came to rest between them. She could feel his lips on her inner thighs in only another moment, his hands running up and down the thigh-high tights she wore to class every day. Her red plaid skirt was tented up on his wolf ears and she'd have laughed a little at the sight if she wasn't too busy trying to stifle a moan. Her fingers were still threaded into his long black and grey locks at the back of his head, holding him in place.

His kisses moved up the inside of her leg and she could feel his hot breath running up her skin. The sensation gave her goosebumps and she felt his hands come to rest just above the backsides of her knees. "May I?" She heard, slightly muffled when he finally stopped kissing her.

The question made a smirk tug at her lips and she was a little glad he couldn't see her face. If he could then she probably wouldn't have the chance to answer him with words since her expression was probably more than enough of an answer to his ridiculous question. How could she ever say no?

"Such a gentleman," she snorted softly. She felt him press a kiss to her underwear and her teeth chomped down on her lower lip.

"Yes, you may."

"So class has been that rough huh?" Mydnight asked.

"Yeah I...can't really seem to pay attention," she answered slowly. Mydnight was laying on her chest and she was exhausted. Her fingers were in his hair, rubbing up and down his ears. These were the moments she missed the most. The moments that she suspected never happened between Mydnight and his last partner. Where they could lay there and talk and just be close. These slow and intimate moments were when she felt most close to him and she was sad to say they hadn't happened often enough for her liking up until now.

His tail gently twitched back and forth on the bed behind him and she could feel his breath on the base of her neck every few seconds. His fingers rested on her stomach and his other arm tucked underneath her back.

"It'll get easier the longer you're back. We've only got a little over half a year left anyway," she felt him shrug.

"That's true...it really did fly by...despite everything that's happened."

"Yeah it did," he mumbled softly and she leaned forward and pressed a kiss into the top of his head.

"Don't fall asleep, we gotta go get dinner," she laughed.

"You're so comfortablleeeee," he stressed as he buried his face deeper into her neck. Ambur began to laugh as she drew her fingers down his back. "Five more minutessss."

"Okay," she smiled. "Five more minutes," she breathed.

She felt him press a kiss to the base of her throat and she let her eyes drift shut. She pursed her lips and tried to focus on enjoying the moment, rather than focusing on the way his lips made her feel hot. "I love you," he sighed happily as he rested his cheek back on her shoulder.

God's, this was her life now wasn't it? How did it get to be this way? She'd managed to get everything she'd ever wanted or dreamed of and now the icing on the cake were those three words. Every night before bed and every morning before class she got to hear those three magical words that took her breath away. "I love you too," she sighed sweetly and brushed her hand across his tail while it was close enough to reach.

"What do you want for dinner?" He mumbled into her skin.

"Anything," she admitted. "Anything I don't care right now...long as you're there with me."

"Cheeseburgersssss," he sighed and she couldn't stifle the laugh that bubbled up from her chest.

"You are the worst," she chuckled and pushed on his shoulder, rolling him off of her and forcing a laugh out of him as well. "You need to eat more balanced meals. You can't just eat red meat all the time!" She teased as she stood from the bed.

"I think I eat plenty of white meat thank you very much," he smirked and she looked back at him over her shoulder, finding his bright golden eyes glued to her backside as they often were now. Her face flushed red and she looked back toward the closet. She went to take a step forward but felt his arms go around her waist, his fingers gripped onto her thighs as he pulled her back a step to the edge of the bed. "But I'll always take more."

His lips pressed into the soft skin below her right hip and she couldn't hold the comment in anymore. "If you could actually live on it I'd let you have me for breakfast lunch and dinner," she breathed. He pressed more kisses into her skin and she wanted nothing more than to melt into his touch and lay back down. His fingers ran up her hips and under her bust. She clamped her hands over his and stepped forward, pulling him to his feet behind her and his chest pressed into her back.

"Sounds like a good deal to me," he chuckled before he pressed a kiss to her cheek. She turned her head to face him and kissed him one more time before she led him toward their closet.

"Come on, we gotta go," Ambur chuckled and was almost sad when his hands finally left her again.

"Yes mam," he smirked and the pair began to dress.

Mydnight and Ambur's school lives were now all about trying to focus on the positive side of things. More room for their own clothes in the closet. Less chance of walking in on someone changing that you really didn't want to catch naked. Less bickering and fewer team meetings where Ambur would have to scold them on how badly they functioned as a team.

Two fewer beds taking up half the room.

There was room to spread out or for Ambur to stretch out in the mornings before she headed to the gym.

So close to winter Ambur had taken to wearing her peach-colored high waisted jeans, sneakers and a white stitched sweater with a low neckline that hung loosely around her shoulders.

She was a little surprised when Mydnight pulled a black hoodie out of the closet that she hadn't seen him wear before. It looked familiar somehow and as she studied it over his shoulder she finally realized what it was.

"Is that my hoodie?" She gasped in surprise. She'd thought that Liv had cleaned her closet out completely. Had he been hiding it?

"Yeah," he smiled before he pulled it on over a black t' shirt. Once he had it on straight Ambur thought he might actually be blushing and he actually looked a bit embarrassed. "Found it at the bottom of the closet under a pile of clothes when I was cleaning it out a few months ago...been wearing it to bed some nights," he admitted quietly and Ambur could swear her heart skipped a beat.

He really had missed her.

For as long as they'd been at Beacon, even before he was dating Rosa, Mydnight had slept in the nude. He'd explained to her one night that he just didn't like the way it felt to sleep with clothes on but…while she was gone he'd been sleeping in her hoodie that she didn't even know she still had. The one she'd worn on the first day of Beacon that had caught his eye and given them something to talk about. Something they had in common.

She hadn't worn it in over two years but she supposed if it was buried in her other clothes it probably smelled like her still and with his heightened senses...maybe it had been helping him to sleep when she was gone.

"I can take it off if yo-" he started softly but she cut him off by throwing her arms around his shoulders. She pulled his face into her neck and held him tight just like that.

"I'm sorry I was gone for so long," she said breathlessly and Mydnight thought she might be holding back tears.

"It's...it's okay Ambur," he said as he threaded his arms around her too. "I'm just glad you're back." He lifted her off the ground for a moment and felt a sort of humm vibrate through her chest. That always made her feel better.

"Too strong for your own good," she half laughed and half sobbed. "Thank you for being strong enough for us both…"

"Could say the same to you ya know," he replied as he set her down. "So you really don't mind if I wear this?" He asked as he pulled back from her.

Ambur carefully drew the backs of her pointer fingers under her eyes to clear the wetness from them without smudging her makeup before she answered. "Not at all...wear it whenever you want," she smiled gently and threaded her fingers into his. "Why do you like to wear it though? Just curious."

"It smells like you…like sunflowers..." he confirmed her suspicions but then his next words made her heart flutter again. "Smells like home."

Ambur's cheeks flushed bright red as she considered what exactly he meant by that. Mydnight had never had a home, not really, and she knew that. He lived at Signal Academy and Beacon and before that he'd just lived in the orphanage. He'd never really lived with Qrow on a personal level so...if her shirt smelled like home.

"Like home…" she breathed. It wasn't really a question. The words just trickled through her lips. "You think of me...as your home?"

She felt him squeeze her hand a little as he looked down at their entwined fingers. He began to run his thumb over the back of her palm and she followed his vision down to their hands. "I...yeah I do...you are where I belong...Is that too much?" He snorted.

"No!" She blurted out quickly. She drew in a deep breath and felt him sigh in what she hoped was relief. "No, it's...perfect actually," Ambur let an easy smile take over her lips. "I just didn't...I didn't realize you liked me that much," she chuckled to herself.

"Really?" He cocked an eyebrow at her. "You didn't?"

"Sorry but I kinda...got used to the idea that I would always love you more than you could ever like me," she laughed nervously.

"Well...I guess I can't blame you for that," he laughed too. "You waited a long time for this."

"And it's so much better than I ever dreamed...so don't ever be afraid to tell me how you feel, okay?" She said as she pulled their hands up to her face and brushed her lips against his palm. "Cus I feel the same way...alright?"

"You got it," he smiled as all their fingers unthreaded except for their pinky fingers. He leaned in and pressed his forehead to hers and they stared at each other through half slitted eyes for a long moment. "You ready?"

"Always ready if I'm with you."
