She Who Cried Wolf Part Two

"Mydniiiiggghhttt!" Ambur called out into the dark of the night with her hands cupped over her mouth. She quickly lowered her hands to her leggings and wiped them into the fabric, trying to dry them from the contact with her tear stained cheeks. Her breath hitched in her throat several times as she raised them back to her face and called out again, "Mydnight please!" her voice rang out through the neighborhood, echoing everywhere and once again receiving no response. "Please..." she sobbed to herself before the tears began to stream down her face again. "I need you."

She stumbled forward down the dirt road from the house toward the edge of town, figuring he would have run toward the woods rather than the market where people could still be awake at this late hour. As she walked on she began to shiver, the cold of the night beginning to pierce her skin and chill her to her bones. She had left the house so quickly that she had left her hoodie in her bedroom. As the breeze gently blew by it felt like ice on her damp face but she knew she couldn't go back. If she had stayed she would've beaten Qrow within an inch of his unconscious life if everyone else stayed out of her way.

But even then she knew that Mydnight had it worse. She had to find him or he could hurt someone, or himself. His demeanor in his wolf form was harshly influenced by the mood he was in before transforming. If a huntsmen found him right now and attacked him Mydnight might not be able to stop himself.

"Mydnight come on!" she cried out as she wrapped her arms around herself, rubbing them up and down her outer biceps trying to keep warm. She looked down to the ground, trying to find any semblance of wolf tracks in the dirt. They had been more obvious near the house but the father she had gone the less and less apparent they had been. "Please come back," she sobbed as she came to a stop in the middle of the street, looking around frantically, her emotions taking over as she began to panic.

She began to wander aimlessly now, tears filling her squinted eyes as she walked along slowly, her head hung low staring at the ground. "I can't do this by myself Myd," she sobbed again quietly. "You're the only reason I'm still here," she said as she came to a four way intersection. She stopped and looked up, unable to find any of her partner's tracks in any direction.

"MYDNIGHT PLEASE!" She screamed hysterically as she fell to her knees, the small rocks in the dirt digging into her skin. She heard a voice in the distance yell back at her telling her to shut up and that people were trying to sleep before the loud slam of a window.

The tears fell from her eyes as she began to silently cry in the center of the road, looking back to the ground, too overwhelmed to move on or back. "Please," she wheezed out between sharp breathes. "I know you can hear me...Damn it Mydnight stop ignoring me!" She once again yelled out, albeit quieter than before. She too was beginning to let her anger take over her sadness, but before it could her eyes widened as she heard foot steps coming toward her from directly across the street.

When she looked up the tears began to flow even faster and heavier as she began to cry more audibly. "I'm sorry I..." she began as she looked away from him now, his gold eyes piercing right through her. "I didn't mean to yell at you..."

The massive wolf hesitated, watching her cry for several moments before beginning to step toward her slowly, his head lowered. She looked back to him for a response, only finding the eyes of a wild animal looking back at her.

"Myd-night?" she choked out, her voice shaky and filled with fear. As he stepped closer still, closing the gap between them she saw the wolf begin to snarl at her, it's sharp k-nines bared. She fell back from her knees onto her but and began to scoot backward in the dirt away from him as her jaw dropped and she began to once again hyperventilate. "No...No no no Mydnight it's me! It's Ambur!" she sobbed but the wolf took no notice. As he closed the gap the rest of the way she sunk into the ground with his head right over her face looking down at her.

She could feel his breath on her face, once again sending chills down her spine as the air stung on her wet cheeks. She felt powerless, no will to fight back or force the massive beast off of her and run away. Her limbs felt like jello and her brain could no longer deal with the situation. She began to whine softly, spitting out random halves of pleas for him to stop without ever being able to finish any of the thoughts.

After a moment she saw his eyes squint as he raised his head slowly before jerking it down with his mouth open, taking aim on her jugular. "Mydnight!" she screamed as she squeezed her eyes shut and her head jerked to the right quickly in fear.

Seconds dragged by as silence fell, only the sound of her crying piercing the silence. She opened her left eye just a crack to find the wolf had hesitated, finding his golden eyes glowing against his dark fur and the dark night sky, staring at her face. She opened her right eye now as well and, for the first time in a long time found that it had a clear, non hair filled, black and white view of the wolf's face as well. Upon further inspection she found that he was starring into her right eye and breathing heavily.

She reached up slowly and ran her right hand through her hair, with the intention of covering her eye back up. However before she had finished he quickly raised his right front paw and stepped down onto her right arm, holding it above her head and her hair fell back to the ground. She held her breath, thinking that he would attack her again but she simply found him staring down at her again.

Ambur's right eye was on display for the wolf to look at for the first time in years and despite wanting to cover it back up, Ambur would soon find herself thanking him for stopping her from covering it back up. Mydnight's eyes traced the pink scar down the right side of her face, from just under her hair line, through her eye brow and half way down her cheek, and the color faded eye in the middle.

After starring for several moments she saw his vision shift over toward where her arm was pinned to the ground, seeming to be staring at his own paw, claws extended. After following his vision over she looked back into his eyes quickly and began to plead to her boyfriend as much as she could. "Mydnight it's okay, please look at me," she said but he wouldn't budge. His eyes got wider and wider in realization as he calmed down.

"Mydnight, hey, look at me," she said again between tears, sucking in air through her nose to try and clear her voice. This time the wolf looked to her and she could tell that he was no longer angry at the world, only himself. "Please stay," she said as she reached up to him with her left hand and reached up toward his nose. He pulled his head back from her touch and stepped off of her other arm, letting her move it and pull her hair back over her eye. "Look look it never happened, it's gone," she tried to convince the animal as he backed off of her, allowing her to sit up, still reaching out for him.

He began to whine and looked to the ground in shame as she stood up and reached out to him again, hoping for him to bridge the rest of the gap on his own. She felt as though she would vomit but she knew she had to put on an act right now or she would never convince him. She put on her best fake smile and wiped the tears from her face before speaking again. "I'm okay, you didn't hurt me, please come here," she pleaded.

Mydnight was still for several seconds before he took one slow step toward her, looking her in the face for reassurance before touching his nose to her hand. As he did she moved to him, hugging his front tightly as he rested his head down her back. She began to feel his form shift and change and once again the tears fell from her eyes as she exhaled the deep breath she had been holding in, feeling his arms go around her, holding her in return. She buried her face as deep into his shoulder as she could, bringing her hands between them on his chest and latching onto the thick leather of his coat.

All Mydnight could do was let her cry. He couldn't find any words to tell her, nothing to console his partner other than his presence. Eventually all he could muster was a simple, "I'm sorry," he breathed out quietly, burying his own face into her hair.

Through her tears and choking on air all she could manage to tell him was to "Shut up," the words almost catching in her throat. He seemed surprised at her words but did as he was told, not wanting to further upset her. "I didn't mean to show you that..."

"Okay, why does that sound like an apology if I'm not allowed to apologize?"

"Because you didn't do anything wrong!"

"Neither did you!" He said as he took hold of her broad shoulders and pulled her away from him, looking into her crying face.

"I shouldn't have to remind you of your mistakes just to calm you down! I should have been stronger..." she said in hysteria.

"Ambur..." he let out quietly in shock. "Do you really think like that?"

"...Why else would I keep my eye covered all the time...I don't feel like walking around all the time forcing you to look at it."

"Look..." he began with a sigh before he reached up and began to push the hair out of her face before she reflexively moved her hand up, grabbing his to stop him. He looked back into her left eye and silently pleaded with her to stop and after a few moments she let go of his hand. He brushed her hair out of her face and tucked it behind her ear, leaving her scar on full display.

"Why do you want to see it..." she murmured.

"Because no matter how much you want me to forget about it I am never going to...I love you, you idiot...every inch of you...And if seeing a piece of you that I've already broken keeps me from breaking more of you then you best believe I want to see it..."

She felt herself lean into the warmth of his hand, feeling his skin on her scar for the first time in years. "...I'm sorry..."

"Ambur you have nothing to be sorry about...Oz and Qrow on the other hand," he bit out in anger.

"Shhh-shh," she cooed, running her hands up and down his chest. "I don't want you changing on me again, just forget it."

"Forget it?"

"Look not...not forever just for right now okay? We need to calm down. Besides I knocked him out for you," she smiled out.

"You hit Oscar?!"

"No of course not! Slapped Qrow though...and it felt amazing."

"Hah," he chuckled out. "Good. Do you accept that it wasn't your fault that we failed now?"

"I think I always knew that...I just couldn't accept it but...now I see there are no depths to which Oz won't sink. At least now we will always know if they try to lie to us."

"Now? You sound like you plan on going back?" Mydnight questioned as he lets go of her.

"Well...Ya? We need to stop Salem."

"Ambur, Bronzine is alive! They have been jerking us around for years and your just gonna go right back in there? Like nothing happened?"

"No...we are gonna go back in there as a team...you can tell if they lie and if they give orders we don't like we will just ignore them...Besides...You need to go back so Ruby knows you're okay.."

Mydnight was silent for a long time as he breathed deeply, clearly frustrated with himself for making his younger sister cry. "Fine..." he finally let out before she pulled him back into an embrace.

"Look...no matter what happens the fact is that if we don't help stop Salem then they have far less of a chance to succeed. We can hate Ozpin and Qrow all we want but we can't give up after we've come so far...Everything that's happened will have been for nothing if we quit now. Besides," she added softly as she looked up into his eyes. "We need them to tell us what happened so we can find Bronzine."

Mydnight sighed again and looked up to the sky away from her, "I'm pretty sure we already found him to be honest."

Ruby heard a light knocking on her door as she cried in her room alone. She looked up to the door and wiped her sleeve across her face before speaking up quietly, "who is it..."

"It's Liv...can I come in?"

Ruby hesitated, she hadn't expected the older girl to come to her aid, especially after everything that Olivier had just learned. Her heart had been yearning for Weiss to be the one to come and comfort her but her brain had been telling her otherwise. She inhaled a sharp and long breath before speaking again, "Come in."

Liv opened the door softly and slowly, peaking around it to find the young rose sitting on her bed, hunched forward with her elbows on her knees and her chin on her hands. Liv walked in the rest of the way and quietly closed the door behind her, Ruby following her movements the entire time. She could tell that the older girl was also struggling with her emotions but was trying her best to be as calm as possible in her presence. "Ruby I...uhmmm..." she started softly, looking away from her and to the window. "Do you...want to...talk?"

Ruby was silent for a minute before Olivier looked back at her, "You...don't have to if you don't want to..."

"I do want to I just...haven't done this in a while..." She sighed as she crossed the room to sit beside her on the bed.

"What do you mean?"

"I used to be there for your brother to talk to...when Ambur was in the hospital after their fight...I spent a lot of time helping Mydnight get through it. He was getting drunk every night, passing out in the hospital parking lot..he...he was kind of a mess...broken..really," she said as Ruby looked over to her and began to listen more carefully.

"...And he blames Qrow..."

"Well...He blames Qrow but mostly Ozpin...Oz...sent team AMBR..the FULL team AMBR out on a mission that he knew they weren't prepared for. They had the skill but recent falling outs within their team had them thrown off. They weren't in sync and Rosaria wanted nothing to do with the rest of them. She kept disobeying Ambur's orders and by the time things went south she had run off. Qrow was sent to back them up and...his semblance once again got in the way of that happening. By the time he got there Mydnight had killed the Uru, Ambur's legs were broken and Rosaria was gone...Bronzine...I don't know..."

"So...while Ambur was recovering you helped Mydnight get back to normal?"

"Ya," Liv smiled out as she looked down into Ruby's tear stained face. "After all he..." she looked back to the floor with a small smile on her lips, "He's my friend." Ruby watched as Liv folded her hands in her lap and she could swear she saw a blush spread across the pale girl's cheeks. "He was an emotional wreck and he hated me every time I came to help him but...I kept going until he finally got back to being himself...Like I hope he does this time..."

"They won't hurt Qrow if they come back will they?"

"No I doubt they will...but after this I don't think Mydnight will ever get along with your uncle again. Mydnight tried so hard to forgive him for so long only to be met with this...your brother really knows how to hold a grudge," she sighed.

"...Do you think that Ambur was able to calm him down?"

"If anybody can at this point...it's her. That's why I wouldn't let you go...I don't know if Mydnight could live with himself if he hurt you. Not that hurting Ambur is much better but she's had to take the pain before so...who knows."

Ruby was quiet for a moment before the question formed completely in her head. "What do you mean? He hurt her?"

Olivier was silent for a long while before she sighed and turned toward Ruby on the bed. "What you need to understand is that...Mydnight really IS a wolf. If not handled properly and untrained he is just a wild animal. Shortly after Ozpin changed him he...had an accident with Ambur. It's the reason she wears her hair in front of her right eye all the time. He slashed her eye with a claw one day while he was worked up and he's hated himself for it ever since. None of us want to see that happen to you."

Ruby wiped her face more thoroughly before taking deep breaths and calming herself. "I hope he's okay..."

"He will be," Liv said as she rested a hand on the younger girl's shoulder. "They'll come back." Liv hugged her quickly before standing to leave. As she headed for the door she heard Ruby speak up one last time.

"Thanks Liv..." she heard before she turned the door knob but hesitated to open it and leave. "I know you must be really upset too...are you gonna be okay?"

"I don't know anymore," she admitted as she turned back to face her. "I've lost every friend I've ever had in this fight except for those two so...it's pointless to turn back now..." Liv shrugged before she turned once again to leave.

"We're your friends too you know," Ruby said quietly, making Liv freeze in the doorway. After a moment she nodded her head and opened the door.

"Ya," Ruby heard before Olivier looked back at her. "Ya you are Ruby," she smiled out. "Goodnight," she said softly as she walked out and closed the door behind her, leaning up against the door. "That's what I'm afraid of," she sighed before she saw Oscar step into view nervously.

"Uh...miss...Antoinette," he said timidly.

"Huhhhhh..." she let out a long sigh before looking at him. "Yes...Oscar."

"Oz...told me what happened..."

"The whole story?"

"Ya..."

"Well," she started before walking away and gesturing for him to follow her to the living room. "Come and tell me...You shouldn't have to bottle up things like that."

Ambur pushed through the door and the couple was treated to the sounds of talking from the bar as she led Mydnight into the Water's Edge, the closest Inn they could find to home. She marched right up to the counter with her hand in his and once there she reached down into his back pocket of his jeans, pulling out his wallet and grabbing the desired Lien for a room.

As she led him up the stairs toward their room she felt his eyes all over her, getting lost in his so familiar trance as he watched her hips swing back and force with each step up the flight. She laughed to herself a little but took no action, loving the attention as much as usual. As they reached the room she got them through the door as fast as possible before nearly slamming the door shut behind them and immediately she felt his hands on her.

Ambur was the one who had to fight for control for once as his lips touched her neck, holding her from behind with his hands exploring her curves. She barely had enough focus to reach down into his front left pocket and grab his scroll, letting him do as he pleased to her while she tried her best to steady her hands and type a text message to Olivier.

"We're good we'll be back tomorrow," she quickly punched in and sent the message before letting the device drop to the floor, her hands going in opposite directions, one up behind her head to run through his hair and the other in between their pelvises, reaching for her prize.

"God you have no self control," she laughed.

"Is that a problem miss?"

"Hmmmm," she hummed playfully as her grip tightened on him and his hands moved to her inner thighs, scratching at them lightly making her knees week like it always did. "Nah, you followed orders pretty good today all things considered. I guess I don't need to punish you tonight."

"Where's the fun in that," he huffed out before moving one hand to her throat and turning her head toward his, their lips meeting for the first of many times that they would before morning.

As he broke the kiss she let out a small giggle, "You're the one who seems like you wanna be in control right now you know?" She said as she stepped away from him, turning around and leaving a hand on his chest to prevent him from following her.

He watched her, lust building in his eyes as she slowly pulled her crop top off, shortly followed by her bra. Mydnight thought for a moment he could actually hear the fabric crying out in relief as it fell to the floor and her chest spilled out of it's containment. She then fell to her knees before him slowly and looked up into her partner's eyes as she tucked her hair behind her ear again, her own eyes burning with desire.

"My makeup's already ruined so why don't you have some fun," she cooed as she bit her lip and winked at him, her hands moving up to his belt.

All he could do was laugh for a moment as he looked down into her eyes and shrugged his shoulders.

"Yes mam."

"So," Liv breathed out as she leaned forward on the couch, Oscar beside her with Jaune, Nora and Weiss on the other couch. "That's all he told you?"

"According to Oz that's all he knows. Qrow took Ambur and Bronzine to the hospital. Bronzine wasn't breathing so Qrow chose to watch over Ambur since they both thought he was dead. Apparently the doctors were able to revive him and by the time Qrow or anyone else knew about it he was gone. Security footage was erased and no one knows how he got out of there. He was torn up pretty bad in the fight, missing appendages, lots of damage to his skull...there's no way he just got up and walked out."

"Someone took him..."

"He could be anywhere," Weiss continued her thought. "He might not even still be alive."

"No..." Liv sighed. "Salem got him..."

The group seemed shocked by her deduction and Jaune spoke up. "Why would you assume that?"

"He would be of great use to her...plus...I'm pretty sure we already ran into him." Liv's scroll then vibrated on the coffee table and she checked the message, letting out a sharp sigh of relief. "Ambur got Mydnight under control. They will be back tomorrow."

"Tomorrow?" Weiss asked. "Why tomorrow?"

Liv stood up and smiled to herself, "They probably just want some alone time after tonight," she said before walking out of the room. The group seemed to agree, not knowing they had taken Olivier's statement in the wrong way.
