Chapter 21

Blue

Lloyd groaned. Throat burning and eyes stinging, he scanned the horizon for any sign of hope. Snowy mountains stared back at him, bleak and desolate. Lloyd's heart sunk in his chest. Head down, he kept walking. He remembered watching the flames lick the houses in Jamanakai Village. Women screamed as men fought to keep the flames down. Children wailed in fear. A little girl clung to her deceased mother.

Lloyd shivered, a pit in his stomach. He didn't want to re-live that again.

He walked awhile longer, hoping to stumble across something - like a cave. A cave would be nice. As the cold made his bones ache, he looked around. The wind whistled, accompanying his chattering teeth in a cruel symphony. His knees knocked and his stomach growled as his feet went numb in his shoes. A small stone flew over the snow in front of him. Lloyd stopped. When had he kicked that?

A loud clag was muffled by the wind and snow. Lloyd started to move forward out of curiosity.

Distant coughing made him stop, anxious and alert. He whipped around, trying to find the sound. Something crunched in the snow. Lloyd looked for a place to hide.

"Hello? Is anybody out there?" A man?

A black silhouette came into view over the snowy mountain, shrouded by the blizzard. Lloyd covered his face with his arm, squinting to see through the snow. The figure faltered slightly, regaining its balance. It continued to hobble toward him, leg dragging a misshapen path. Lloyd felt his heart hurt while warning him with fear.

"H-Hey, are you okay?!" he called out. The person's head moved as they tried to find him in the snow. His heart won out, and he ran as best he could to them. The wind pushed him backward. "Hey! Hold on! I-I'm coming!" The figure moved towards him, shaky and slow. Lloyd fought his way through the snow, pushing back against the wind.

Lloyd stood in front of the mysterious figure, black silhouette now covered in blue. He moved his arm, lifting his head.

The wind gusted atop the great snowy mountains, two sets of tracks blown away and lost to the storm.

So... Sorry this took so long! I don't really have a good reason if I'm being honest, but I definitely want to continue this. I'm so anxious to get to season 3, so I'm currently struggling with seasons 1 and 2. Hope you like it!
