Against my better judgment, I decided to write another one. And I included one scene for Vee because I thought it would be cool. Also, I like Vee. Masha I can take for leave. Hate me if you want, but beyond being non-binary, I honestly can't think of a character trait that gives them the popularity they have. Raine is a bard and a powerful one at that, to the point where even Belos has to acknowledge them. Beyond that, they're leader of a rebel cell to overthrow a fascist regime. Masha… isn't.
Please enjoy regardless of your opinion on what has been said.
"Neat story, awesome," King said sarcastically. "Anyway, your food is gone and so are we,"
"Yes, we have to go," Luz said as well. "We should pack for this enchanting quest," Making Adegast grin amusingly.
"Bye, Ser Adegast," Luz said, waving as she walked out the door. Once it closed behind her, she started running away from the castle.
"Luz, you're not really buying that Chosen One schtick, are you?" King asked.
"Of course not," Luz denied. "That guy wasn't even real,"
"Weh?" King asked, confused.
"You didn't notice? He didn't even smell like a person. He mostly smelled like wood. And kind of like calamari, for some reason,"
"How'd you smell all that?" King asked. "Also, what's calamari?"
"My nose is extremely sensitive. I can track almost as well as a bloodhound if I wanted to. And calamari is squid,"
"What's squid?"
"Deep sea animal with tentacles. Anyway, let's go tell Eda about him,"
"Your hubris has failed you, witch apprentice!" the wizard puppet said to Luz as multiple puppets broke through the ground. Luz looked closely, noticing they were all the same people she'd met on the trip through the forest. "You're not chose- wait, where are your bindings?"
"You mean the cape and ring and junk?" Luz asked nonchalantly. "I ditched those as soon as I was out of sight,"
"Well no matter," the wizard puppet said as the ground rumbled more, a large octopus-like demon sprouting through the ground. "You've still fallen into my trap!"
"So that's what smelled like calamari," Luz said. "And this isn't a trap,"
"Of course it's a trap! I have you surrounded,"
"A trap isn't a trap if the person being trapped knows it's a trap. Then it's a face off." Luz pulled out a small round cylinder and a pair of sunglasses. "And I have a flashbang,"
"A flash-what?" Without answering, Luz out the sunglasses on and through the flash grenade on the ground, causing a bright flash of light to appear, disorienting the demon.
"Eda, now!" Luz yelled, unsheathing her claws and slicing through the closest puppet, which just happened to be Nevareth.
"Ah, my flawless pecs!" he yelled before poofing into dust. Eda jumped out of the bushes, using a fire spell to take out multiple puppets at once. Luz sprouted a claw from her right foot and stabbed the pixie with it, using it as a foothold to jump launch herself into Adegast's main body, but he blocked the strike with the wizard puppet.
"You think you can defeat me?!" Adegast yelled angrily, growing in size. "You might be a powerful witch, but I've killed many over the centuries. I will devour you bo-" He was cut off by a toy sword impaling the top of his head.
"I will smite my enemies, ages six to eleven," the toy said as it struck a decisive blow on the demon. Holding the plastic sword was none other than King, who used Luz and Eda's distraction to sneak behind the puppeteer demon. With a groan, the demon shrunk down to the size of a softball.
"Well that was easy," King commented. "Can I go back to bed now?"
"Go for it," Luz said, picking up King and placing him in her hoodie. Eda picked up Adegast, who was squirming in terror.
"Well, that's the last time I take an outside referral," she said, about to gulp him down whole.
"Wait!" Luz exclaimed, halting Eda in her snack. Adegast made a sighing motion, relieved that he wasn't going to be eaten until… "Can I have a slice? If he smells like calamari, he probably tastes like it too," She popped out a single claw, making Adegast start to struggle in vain.
"Sure, kid." Eda held out the little cephalopod and Luz sliced off a tentacle for herself before Eda swallowed the rest whole.
Luz ate her piece as well and was pleasantly surprised that she was right: it tastes just like squid from the Human Realm.
Professor Charles Xavier watched his newest student, a young Luz Noceda, walk in. She had similar powers as Logan, his Physical Education teacher, who happened to be in the corner of the room, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. From the personal visit they both paid the young girl last week, she might not be focused academically, but she was exceedingly creative and outgoing, which would mean she would fit in well with the student body. Perhaps she'd even be a good teacher or writer one day. However, when she walked in, Logan stood straight and put his arms down to his side, instinctively curling his fingers as though he was going to make a fist. Something was amiss and Logan could sense it.
Using his telepathy, Charles read the minds of both the Nocedas in front of him. What he saw nearly broke his heart. It did almost every time a new student walked in with a story like that, but this one was different. He used a hand motion to signal Logan that everything was alright, who resumed his relaxed posture.
"Welcome to Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters," Charles greeted the pair. "As you may recall, I've told you about our facility when we spoke to you at your home last week, how this school is specially designed to help young children learn to control their gifts.
"R-right," Luz agreed, clearly nervous in this meeting. Charles knew why, but chose not to address it in front of Camila. He turned toward the young mother.
"Mrs. Noceda, may I talk to Luz in private?" he requested.
"Of course, Professor, but please, call me Camila," she agreed, walking out of the room with Logan. Once they were alone, the professor turned to Luz.
"Your name, what is it?" he asked.
"L-Luz," she answered.
"I need you to remain calm while I tell you this. You won't be able to find a source of magic for the next one-hundred miles, after all. Now tell me your real name," Luz's eyes widened, knowing the professor knew the truth somehow.
"I'm Number Fi- I mean, I'm Vee," she answered honestly. She didn't know why she felt so at ease around this man, but it was a welcome feeling.
"I formed this school to teach students with abilities similar to your own," She heard his voice, but his mouth didn't move, making her wonder how he could do so without magic, and suddenly more images were implanted in her head, such as a student making little fireworks explode in front of her, a boy freezing the entire pond, and another one who had lasers fired from his eyes. "Many have experienced hardships as well, all because of a power they haven't learned to control,"
"What's-what's going on?" Vee said out loud, making the professor smile.
"I am what is called a telepath," Charles explained. "I can read other people's minds and even broadcast my own thoughts into them, among other things. It's the reason you're so calm right now, despite being exposed. I'm going to stop, but you must keep control of your own emotions. I promise not to send you back to the Demon Realm," Vee nodded and felt her emotions change on the spot. She nearly panicked but took the professor's words to heart, trying to keep her transformation in check. "Now, I will protect you here, but we should inform Camila of the whereabouts of young Ms. Noceda,"
"You-you're probably right," Vee relented, opening the door to the office. "M-mom? There's something the professor and I need to talk to you about,"
And that is how little things change for now. Still, I'd appreciate your opinion on what I've written so far. Also, for clarity, she is not the daughter of Wolverine. Her mutant powers just evolved to match his. Maybe I'll connect them somehow later.
One more thing to address. I thought that it would be at least a day trip to Xavier's School, but it turns out you can get from the opposite corner of Connecticut to Westchester in about three hours. I'm going to pretend this is a flashback for accuracy's sake.
