Chapter 11- Fett's Princess (Cont'd)
"Take a seat, Senator." Leia said, her tone soft but harsh, showcasing her skills in political speaking. Organa did as she commanded without question, and Leia smirked as he took the visitor's chair in his own office.
"What do you want from me, Leia? I don't know where the boy is."
"I believe you." she had been frustrated to feel in the Force that Organa was not lying, he had never been told where Luke would be. Likely to stop him from revealing the location if questioned as she was doing now.
"Then what else could you want from me? I have no other information for you."
"The time that the Royal House of Alderaan would reveal the existence of an heir is on that heir's sixteenth birthday. You will introduce me to the galaxy as the crown princess of Alderaan in two months' time, when I turn sixteen."
Bail nearly choked in his surprise, whatever he had expected her to say, that was not it. "What?"
"You heard me perfectly well, Organa. You will introduce me as the heir to the throne of Alderaan in two months, and in one year you will make me the senator for Alderaan, in accordance with tradition." she paused briefly to pin him in place with her stare, "That is, after all, what you envisioned when you kidnapped me, was it not?"
Bail flinched at the accusation, the full weight of what he had done nearly sixteen years ago only just sinking in. "I…"
"Here I am, ready to live out what you envisioned. Only now, I know what is happening. I will be your princess, I will be the young and defiant senator, I will join and lead your rebellion, and I will destroy the Emperor. Exactly as you planned. Only now, we do it my way."
"I don't know if I can… Breha would need to agree…"
"Queen Breha is your problem, Organa. I don't care how you convince her, but if you don't want her to know the truth you will find a way to convince her to see me as her daughter."
Bail paced back and forth in his study attempting to find a way to complete Leia's demands. In another timeline she could have been his daughter; she could have played in the Alderaanian sun and grown into a true princess and politician, a leader of the rebellion and a symbol of freedom with Breha and himself as her doting parents. But that future was lost, snatched from his arms almost sixteen years ago by Boba Fett. The girl he could have turned her into slipped out of his grasp long ago and now she showed that she truly was Boba Fett's daughter.
Bail secretly began the preparations for the announcement of Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan's existence, speeding up the process to have everything ready for Leia's birthday.
Five days after the initial confrontation with Leia he still had not figured out what to say to his wife.
A week later he decided to do something that, if he could remember doing it, he would regret. Bail was unsure of his own ability to keep the ruse, and knew that no matter how he approached Breha she would never agree. He decided to employ an ancient piece of Magik that he had learned from a Nightsister during the Clone Wars, Magik that could alter memories.
He met with Leia and told her that beginning the next morning everyone that should know the Princess of Alderaan would pretend to know her. He and Breha would pretend that they had adopted her as an infant and raised her to adulthood. And she would need to maintain the ruse too, and never mention that everything was false. Leia nodded and retired to the room that had been set up for her as though she had always been a member of the Royal House, and Bail began the spell.
The next morning Bail awoke and went through his morning routine. As he took his seat at the breakfast table his wife spoke, "Where is Leia? She's usually to the table before you."
Bail looked up from his plate and realised that his adopted daughter was not in her seat. "Perhaps she's feeling unwell. She's been under a great deal of stress lately with the preparations for her birthday and presentation."
"Perhaps… I do worry about her sometimes. She does tend to work herself until she physically can't do it anymore."
Bail stood and headed to the door, "I'll go check on her." Breha smiled at him as he exited the room to check on his little girl.
Leia woke with a start at the feeling of someone staring at her. She sat up in the luxurious bed in the Aldera Royal Palace, and saw the boy she had seen so many times in her dreams standing only a few paces from her side. She took a deep breath and tried to speak to him again, "Luke? Where are you? Please…"
As Luke opened his mouth to speak she heard another voice penetrating the fog of her dream.
"Sweetheart? Are you alright?"
Leia sat upright in bed, the connection with Luke broken. She glared at the door as it opened to reveal Bail Organa peering around it.
"Are you feeling alright Leia? You don't usually lie in this long and your mother and I began to worry."
"I'm fine." Leia ground out, irritated by the dismal timing Organa had.
Bail was taken aback by her tone, but decided not to comment. "Then we have a busy day today. We only have a year to prepare you as thoroughly as possible for the role of senator. Make sure that you have some breakfast and say good morning to your mother first."
Leia nodded and rolled out of the bed in what she was sure was a very un-princess-like manner as Bail closed the door behind him. She padded over to the wardrobe and grimaced at the contents: white dresses. She sighed as she pulled on what appeared to be the easiest to move in of the dresses and ran a comb through her long hair. She then remembered that Alderaan had a long tradition of women wearing their hair in tight styles pinned close to their heads. Leia's hands gathered her hair almost absentmindedly into the simple but effective style that her dad had done so often during her childhood.
A glance at the mirror revealed a woman she barely recognised as herself, the woman that the galaxy would soon come to know as Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan.
Author's Note: Hello all! I hope you've enjoyed the last few chapters. As you might have guessed by the direction things are going on Alderaan I'm going to try to have the major scenes and plot points that we all know and love from the Original Trilogy happen approximately as they did. Obviously there will be vastly different motivations for the same events, plus a lot of scenes that I make up especially between Boba, Vader/Anakin, and Leia.
