Hello everyone, this is my new story and I would love to read your opinion on it. I want to warn you right away that English is not my first language, and I would be glad if someone recommends some beta to me.

Chapter 1.

EPOV.

I never thought before how entirely your life can change in one moment. One evening, you're sitting in your room after a grueling workout you did with your childhood friends, and then the next evening you watch as 17 years of your life is hastily packed in cardboard boxes. This was the reason why I stood in front of the mirror, about to go to Forks High School in the middle of the school year. Facing my reflection, I mentally cheered myself up.

"Edward, it's time to leave. Better not to be late the first day. " My mother was clearly worried about me at the new school, she and my father knew how difficult our move was for me.

"I'm going, mom!"

Hopping down the stairs, I found that my mother was standing alone in the kitchen, and my father was nowhere to be seen. It was strange since yesterday my dad volunteered to take me to school, cause we left my old car in Chicago to one of our relatives.

"Where is dad? He's already awake, isn't he? "

"Of course, honey! He's already waiting for you outside." She came over to hug me goodbye. "Have a great day in school."

"Thanks, mom."

My father was truly already outside and he was standing next to some new Volvo. Judging by his worried look, which darted between me and the car, it was not our neighbor's.

"Edward, your mother and I know you weren't happy about our move. So, we decided to give you something to help you smooth it out. This is your new car." With that, my father handed me the keys to this new silver Volvo.

I was surprised by this gift. I was sure that with how suddenly our move happened, my parents didn't have time to think everything over. But that was not the case, and I was very grateful to them for that. I smiled a wide smile, perhaps the first time in the last month, and hugged my father.

"Thank you!" I hugged him quickly. "Bye, dad!" With these words, I got into the car and started it.

I knew that with this gift my parents were trying to apologize to me in a peculiar way. But despite the fact that this little gray town was getting on my nerves, I realized that my parents were not to blame for what happened. They didn't like the place any more than I did. This whole situation irritated me to the extreme, but I tried with all my might not to take it all out on my parents.

I took the main road in Forks and followed the route my father showed me yesterday. My thoughts returned to my current situation. I just knew that the locals would be interested in the reasons for our move, but I absolutely didn't know what to answer them to this. They cannot know the truth, by no means. And to be precise, they shouldn't know that a month ago my father was a successful lawyer in Chicago, who one day took up a case that changed our whole life. The man my father defended in court blabbed out and told my father too much information that he just shouldn't know. Information that could kill you. Fortunately, my father was experienced in dealing with such people and quickly realized that we needed to run and hide.

It was a big shock for the whole family. My mother, who was preparing for the next concert, being a professional pianist, had to leave the Philharmonic. My father, who was a co-owner of a law firm, urgently transferred all rights and shares to his partner. And I, who at one moment lost all my friends, not being able to tell them the truth.

Because of all these negative thoughts, I didn't notice as I pulled into the school parking lot. To my surprise, my pretty humble Volvo stood out from all the present cars. Most cars were quite old. Which, of course, attracted unwelcome attention to me. My old school was located in a good neighborhood, so it was a common thing to see some expensive cars in the student lot, but that wasn't the case here.

I stepped out of my warm car and entered the school administration building, where a woman with red hair was sitting. A sign on the table said that her name was Shelley Cope.

"Hello, Mrs. Cope. My name is Edward Mason and I'm a new student."

The woman looked up at me, and I saw how awareness lighted her gray eyes.

"Ah, Edward, hello. Yes, I prepared everything. I have a school map and your schedule right here." When she brought several sheets to me. "And of course, your slip. Ask all of your teachers to sign it."

I thanked her and went in search of the calculus classroom using my map. The school was like all others, so I found the place I needed pretty quickly. The classroom was small, but that was not surprising for such a small town. I went to the teacher's desk, which was empty, and started to wait for the teacher. My solitude didn't last long, because a minute later a short blonde with gray eyes approached me.

"Hey, I'm Jessica Stanley. You are a new student, right?"

I really wanted to say no, because, in my opinion, the answer was obvious, but I restrained myself.

"Yeah, unfortunately."

"Huh?" She studied my face tensely, and I sighed. Maybe it was a little rough.

"I'm just joking. I'm Edward Mason."

This time Jessica smiled broadly and started chatting about the school and the teachers. Her excessive friendliness and her studying gaze made me feel uncomfortable. I knew that many girls found me attractive. My height was above average, interesting copper hair color and green eyes, which I got from my mother, often attracted the attention of the female population. But very few of my acquaintances stared at me so obviously. To my relief, the teacher soon entered the class, and Jessica, or Jess, as she asked to call her, went to sit down in her seat.

Mr. Varner signed the paper for me and pointed to the spot next to the guy with the glasses. I breathed a sigh of relief as the place was as far away from Jessica as possible. I found out that my neighbor's name was Ben, and immediately developed a liking for him. He didn't look like a person who would spread gossip about other people, and in general, he looked like a smart guy.

So, my day began and then went on in about the same vein. As I went from lesson to lesson, I became even more upset, as the curriculum in this school was much weaker than in my old school. This meant only one thing, I had to study even more by myself, because I was planning to go to a university in some big city, where I could blend in with the crowd. Probably in NY. But I was even more irritated by the curious glances from all sides of the school.

When it was time for lunch, I was relieved to see Ben in the food queue. He seemed to be glad to see me too and even invited me to sit at his table with his girlfriend Angela. Angela turned out to be a very pleasant girl who, with surprising ease, supported Ben's conversations about programming and other computer topics. After a while, I saw Jessica and some guy with blond hair approaching in our direction.

" Hi, do you mind if we sit with you? We want to get to you better."

I smiled tightly at them and nodded in agreement. The guy who introduced himself as Mike looked at me with an appraising look, as at his rival, and then jealously put his hand on Jessica's shoulders. This gesture caused a wave of laughter in me, which I tried to hide behind a coughing fit. Apparently not very successful, since everyone looked suspiciously in my direction.

I decided to change the subject and distract everyone from my laughter.

"Ben, do you know what sports activities do you have here? Perhaps some kind of sports teams?"

"Sorry, man. The only sport I like is cybersport. Mike is an athlete here; I think he can tell you more than me."

Reluctantly, I turned my head towards Mike, who looked haughtily into my eyes.

"Do you play football?"

"Nope."

"Then I'm afraid they won't take you to our team. We've got pretty strong guys here."

Something tells me that he was talking about himself.

"That's fine. I prefer basketball or athletics anyway."

"Oh my God! I love basketball too!" Of course, it was Jessica, who apparently found a new reason to hang on my arm.

I turned my head away so that no one could see my disgust, and at that time I saw that four people entered the dining room. They sat down at the farthest table with trays full of food. I looked at them, something in them attracted my attention. They didn't look anything alike, and yet, they looked the same. They all had unusual and very pale skin, too pale even for a city as gloomy as Forks. They were all incredibly beautiful, with elegant hairstyles and obviously expensive clothes, but at the same time, they had dark circles under their eyes as if they were seriously ill or had not slept for several nights. I couldn't look away. They weren't talking or eating, just sat there.

"Who are they?" I asked Jessica who still held my hand.

"That's Cullens and Hales. Emmet Cullen, the big guy, he is dating the blond girl, Rosalie Hale. The short girl is Alice Cullen, she is dating this guy with honey-blond hair, Jasper Hale. They all live together with Dr. Cullen and his wife."

Such strange names for teenagers. Especially if they are not related. Perhaps they were named after their distant relatives.

"They look very interesting."

"Yes! Such a strange family! Emmett and Alice were adopted a few years ago in Alaska, and Jasper and Rosalie are really brother and sister, twins actually, I heard their mother was Dr. Cullen's sister, but then she and her husband had a car accident and the children moved to the Cullens."

"That's really nice for Cullens to take care of all those kids."

"Probably," something in Jessica's expression told me she didn't think so. "I just think that or can't have any kids. They are both pretty young." The envy and indignation with which Jessica spoke once again showed her true face. "My mom said that they kind of have another foster daughter, but she's in some sort of private school in England right now. Probably, she could not stand this family and went far away. Although the teachers warned that she may come here in about a month to finish school in the US."

"I wonder if she's as hot as Rosalie?" Of course, it was Mike, with a dreamy expression on his face. Jessica chuckled in his direction.

"Why do you need to know? She's Cullen, which means she definitely won't go out with you." With the same jealous face, Jessica gave Mike a scornful look." By the way about moving. The whole town wants to know why you came here from Chicago, Edward?"

As soon as the question was asked, and I felt the beginning of a panic attack, the bell rang. Saved by the bell indeed. I sent everyone a forced smile and ran off to look for a biology class. Mr. Banner signed my piece of paper and directed me to the only empty table.

"Mr. Mason, don't worry. Your lab partner will be Miss Cullen, and as far as I know, she should be moving to Forks in less than a month."

I nodded my head to show that I understood. I hoped this fifth Cullen knew biology well because this was my favorite subject. I didn't want anyone to slow down my work. Biology passed as quickly as other subjects, the material, of course, had already been studied by me earlier, but I decided that repetition was not that bad. There was one more lesson before I was finally able to leave this school and went home.

I realized that this half of the year will be a difficult stage in my life.

BPOV. (One week later)

How could I be so naive? Why did I believe him? These thoughts didn't leave my head all day. I was somewhere in the north of Italy, on the way to my family. How did I get there? It was just incredibly stupid. After spending the last thirty years of my life as a vampire, all this time I lived with three couples who were crazy about each other. At some point, I realized that I could no longer be alone. It was during this phase of my life that I met Demetri. He was a very ancient and beautiful vampire who suddenly decided to show his sympathy for me.

I perfectly understood the fact that we weren't mates. But I didn't care, I just wanted to feel some kind of connection with a man again. Then it seemed to me that Demetrius was looking for something similar. And as it turned out, it was half true. He did find me attractive, but all this time he was pursuing a completely different plan. Aro Volturi dreamed of getting me into his ranks of guards and Demetri was happy to help his leader. A new fit of anger pierced my body, and I accelerated even more on my way. Why didn't Alice see this beforehand?

I was terribly upset with myself because in the history of vampires there were cases when someone could not find their mate for centuries. For example, Carlisle. Why did I allow myself to be led by my weakness? But on the other hand, none of them lived for thirty years among ideal couples who so openly showed their feelings for each other. However, all this was unimportant, because I had a more serious problem. Namely, these are the irritated Volturi. I warned my family that I would stay in Europe a little longer and then return to them. I was just ashamed to look them in the eye.

I didn't have a single reason to rush to Forks and go back to school to pretend to be an eighteen-year-old schoolgirl. Thoughts about staying in Europe until the end of spring never left me. At that moment my phone vibrated. It was a message from Alice.

Don't even think about staying there. You will love it in Forks :)
