A\N: Now before I begin, I've only seen clips of Chicago Hope and it's only been of season 6 when Lauren Holly starred as Jeremy Hanlon. I only searched for it because it had Mark Harmon and Lauren Holly in it, and I love anything with them in it and I love their chemistry so I'm making Jeremy and Jack (Mark Harmon's character) be together.
I hope you enjoy, Angels.
Dr Jack McNeil walks down the corridors of Hoyt Hospital, keeping an eye out for fellow doctor and girlfriend Jeremy Hanlon. They've been dating since the weekend after the plague outbreak in the hospital and he's been loving being with her.
She makes him smile and laugh more than he used to do. The world could be ending but he wouldn't care as long as she's safe.
With a smile plastered on his face, Jack reaches the staff desk where Gina and Keith seem to be waiting for him. "Jack, there you are!" Gina says as the man leans against the desk. Jack takes in his colleagues' faces and his smile quickly vanishes. "What's up?" He asks. Gina and Keith look at each other before looking back to him.
"Jeremy lost a patient." Keith says, Jack slams a hand down on the counter top, swearing angrily. The other doctors that pass the trio don't bat an eye to the sound of Jack's palm landing on the counter, they've all done it at one point or another, especially when they've received bad news. Jack groans as he rubs a hand up and down his face.
It's always hard on a doctor when they lose a patient, no matter what condition they were in. They all have different ways of coping with the loss:
Gina cries for days before slowly moving on.
Keith goes home and hugs his son as hard as he can.
Jack goes to a bar, sometimes with Keith, and drinks until he can think straight without wanting to kill someone.
Jeremy is probably the worst out of all of them. Jeremy either goes home, curls on the couch with all the junk food in the apartment and watches movies until she's crying so hard she struggles to breathe. Or she buries it and lets it fester inside her before she explodes and takes it out on those closest to her, namely him, Keith and Gina.
"Jesus." He sighs as he looks at the two of them. "Don't suppose you saw which way she was going, did you?" He practically begs them, Keith shakes his head. "Sorry man, I just saw her run." The other doctor says before he claps Jack on his shoulder and takes off down the hallway with a folder in his hands. Gina looks at him sympathetically.
"She'll be fine, Jack. She just needs time to process this like we all do." His colleague says as she walks away from him. She looks over her shoulder and smiles. "You should check the roof." Jack nods at her suggestion as he watches her walk away before he leans against the desk, closing his eyes for a few seconds.
His girlfriend has lost a patient and is undoubtedly blaming herself for even though it wasn't her fault. Jack opens his eyes before he pushes off the desk and walks to the nearest elevator.
Jack finds Jeremy on the roof, leaning against the wall, looking at Chicago. A light wind blows across the roof making his girlfriend's blonde ruffle slightly. He withholds a sigh as he slowly walks towards her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder, pulling her closer to him. Jeremy lends her head on his shoulder.
"I lost a patient today." Her voice is quiet. Jack nods and kisses her head. "I know, Gina and Keith told me." He says. Jeremy just leans into him more.
"Why does this happen?" She suddenly asks him. Jack exhales. It's a question they all ask after they lose a patient but no one has ever given a concrete answer. Jack looks down at his girlfriend. "I don't know, Jeremy, no one knows why this happens, it just does." He tells her. Jeremy pulls away from him and kisses him, winding her arms around his neck, he responds eagerly, his arms going around her waist.
The kiss continues until he feels little drops of water falling onto his hair and covered shoulders. He reluctantly pulls away from Jeremy. "Come on," he says as he links their hands together and starts leading them to the door off the roof. "lets get back inside before the rain really starts." The door to the roof closes behind them as they get into the elevator, Jeremy pushes the button for their floor.
The ride is silent as both doctors are wrapped up in their own thoughts about their last few hours of their shifts.
"Do you wanna stay at my place tonight?" He asks, not wanting her to be alone when she starts crying, or ignores the subject he'll be bringing up. His blonde haired girlfriend nods and releases his hand as the doors open. The two of them walk up to the staff desk to see if they have any new patients. Only Keith is at the desk and he gives both of them a smile. "You okay, Hanlon?" He asks, Jeremy nods as Jack kisses her temple.
"I'll meet you here when our shift ends, okay?" He says softly before turning on his heel and walking down the hallway, Jeremy's eyes on him until he's out of her eyesight.
Jeremy sighs as she curls into her boyfriend's side. It's been a long and exhausting day, for both of them, and she's glad they're both home together. Her boyfriend wraps an arm around her shoulder and covers them with a blanket as they watch a movie.
"Thank you for this." She says as the credits roll on screen, Jack looks at her with a smile on his face as he kisses her gently. "You're welcome." He says as he pulls away from his girlfriend and stares in her eyes, tucking a strand of blonde hair behind her ear.
"I love you, Jermey." Jack says, Jeremy gasps quietly. Even though they've been dating close to a year, they've never said the three words to each other, despite them being in love with one another. Jeremy traps her bottom lip between her teeth, a smile appearing.
"I love you too, Jack." She says as she kisses him deeply, causing him to fall back on the couch. He chuckles as he pushes his tongue into her mouth, finding new places to explore. She pulls away when she yawns.
"Go to sleep, Jeremy. I'll be here when you wake up." Jeremy nods as she leans her head on Jack's chest and feels her eyes closing.
While she had suffered a loss, she's gained a love.
A\N: Sorry for not updating any stories in so long, Angels. I've had a ton of personal shit to deal with. I'm slowly back into it. This is my first Chicago Hope fanfiction, I hope you enjoy this one, Angels. (It's 4 minutes to midnight at the time of writing this author's note.)
