Author's Note: It's been quite some time since I last worked on this fic, I know, but after recent events, I've decided I want to try and get back into it. For those not in the know, this is inspired by another fanfic series on this site called 'The Last Son', which I'd honestly recommend. The only potential fault of it is the eventual bloat of the later fics that, while not too terrible, still caused me to fall out of reading it due to how many people kept showing up and being involved. If I ever get to a similar point in this story *fingers crossed*, I want to condense the number of characters a bit. Therefore, this'll essentially be a Superman & the X-Men story first, and a full Marvel/DC crossover second (though I might throw in some side stories involving other characters if I'm feeling ambitious). Also, while I might take story elements from X-Men: Evolution (as the source of the storylines from the 'Last Son' series), this won't be a full adaption of that due to what I feel are some flaws in that story. Apologies to all of those who are fans of Spyke.
With that out of the way, hope you all enjoy, and feel free to leave a review if you want to see more.
Clark Kent was very excited today. Not only did he have the week off of school due to midterms, he also had the chance to talk with his friends Rokk, Garth, and Imra. They'd been through quite a bit, enough to become a family, and as such, they had a standard arrangement to meet up for each of their birthdays.
But something was starting to seem off as he finished his chores around the farm. It was like a fly buzzing just outside the range of his hearing… which was annoying for someone who could hear the heartbeat of every living creature on the planet.
He continuously turned his head, using his telescopic sight to attempt to locate the source of the noise. Then he looked up and just barely saw the source of the noise… and it was moving fast toward town.
"Mom, Dad, looks like trouble's on its way!" Clark called out before bending his legs and taking off into the air to meet this trouble.
The town of Smallville was mostly unremarkable. A fair four hour drive from Keystone City, the largest city on the edge of Kansas and sister city to Central across the water. The only remarkable event that has occurred in Smallville was a meteor shower that hit some 18 years prior... and with that came the trouble that was about to befall them.
To Jax-Ur, it was just another sign of how primitive these humans were. Jax-Ur was a tall, thin man with a shaved head, a well-groomed dark-colored beard, and a simple Kryptonian lab coat with what appeared to be the English letter U partially inside a five-sided arrowhead that pointed up; the symbol of the disgraced House of Ur.
General Lor-Zod of what remained of the Kryptonian Defense Force had promised the restoration of his house name should he succeed in finding and killing the son of Jor-El.
He scowled deeply as he remembered the kabryck who stripped him of his privileges as a member of the Science Council. The scowl only added to his current stand-offish appearance as he walked through the town toward its center with his experiment, a tall behemoth of a being covered head to toe in a green jumpsuit.
The moment he reached the relative center of the town, where a small park decorated with a few trees and a gazebo lay, Jax-Ur called out, "Peoples of Earth! I seek one who is hiding amongst you who would have arrived here eighteen of your years ago! He is a fugitive of our world and must be formally tried and executed as such!"
"Screw you! We're not giving you anything!" Came a voice from the right.
"Ah, a test subject!" And as if to clarify what he meant, the behemoth picked up a car and effortlessly tossed it straight toward the voice...
As the car soared toward the Talon coffee shop, it was stopped by a being whose arrival was heralded by a loud KAKOOM! The tall, dark-haired figure lingered for only a moment to gently set the car down before retreating faster than the human eye could follow to a spot where his face would be obscured by the sun some 80 feet in the air. The façade wasn't necessary; nearly everyone in this town knew it was Clark Kent, but they said nothing as they were moved back by a few of the deputies from the Sheriff's department.
"If you want to talk to me, it would be best to take this elsewhere, considering your friend's temperament."
"I quite disagree. As it seems you care for these savages, let us stress..." Jax-Ur began before he was cut short by a curt whistle from Clark as what appeared to be a pure white Labrador dog named Einstein surged toward Jax-Ur, grabbed him with his teeth by the scruff of his neck, and flew away with him toward the nearest field. Clark then proceeded to do the same to the behemoth... but he felt resistance as the green figure turned Clark's momentum against him and slammed him into the asphalt. Clark realized he needed to put an extra bit of muscle into taking the figure down, and so, he blasted his face with his heat vision as he began to push back against the figure, who was slowly beginning to crumble into dust as he did.
Clark was about to flee when he realized that the townsfolk were clapping! It was weird! He always thought that people would shun him if they knew what he was, but these folk seemed to love him. Shaking off the stupor, he flew off toward Jax-Ur, who was currently pinned by a growling Einstein.
"Heel," Clark called as Einstein ceased his growling while still keeping a menacing gaze on Jax-Ur. "Why are you here?"
"I was sent by General Zod to purge you from existence, son of Jor-El, as you are all that stands in the way of the recreation of our home."
"Why is that?"
"That is a secret I will take with me." Just then, a ray of light surrounded Jax-Ur as he was about to be teleported away. "But know this, one day, you will kneel before Zod!" And with that, he vanished.
