MoY: Chapter 4

It was now midnight here in Peach Creek, a lot of people in the town were currently asleep, except for a few people at the hospital. We could see a car drive up to the entrance, a lone person then exited out of the backseat in a panicked rush, not even closing the car door behind him. It was Ed, he asked his parents to drive him here once he about heard what happened, despite what time it was. His parents had no objections, considering how serious the situation was for everyone.

Ed went over to the front desk of the hospital, desperately asking the nurse there where his friends were. The nurse looked it up, only to see their rooms were next to each other and not that far away. He thanked her before running off to where his friends were, as fast as his feet could take him. He finally arrived outside the two rooms, only to see Kevin and Nazz were there as well, standing around outside in the hallway alongside Eddy's parents and another doctor. It seemed like they heard the news as well while everyone else was probably asleep back home.

"… We've done everything we can right now to help your son," the doctor told Eddy's parents, "He's still alive, but we don't know if he can fully recover or not. If he does survive, his vocal cords might be permanently damaged. He won't be able to speak for the rest of his life, he'll become mute."

A sense of dread started to set in around Ed at what he heard. He could not believe it; both of his best friends were on the verge of death with no signs of waking up. Ed fell to his knees in both shock and sadness; it felt like his whole world started to shatter around him, seeing that he was now alone. Ed got the attention of Kevin and Nazz, who came over to him to help.

"Oh god, Ed… I'm so sorry this happened to them!" Nazz said to him as she gave him a hug, trying to help support him in some way.

"… If there's anything you need, you can tell us, okay?" Kevin stated to Ed, scratching the back of his head, unsure of what to do.

"… I gotta go."

"Huh?"

Ed quickly got up from where he fell before running away from everyone. Nazz noticed the look on his face as he ran away, widening her eyes as she did, "K-Kev! We need to go after him!" She started to say as she turned to Kevin, "He might try to hurt himself!"

Kevin widened his eyes at what she meant, "Oh geez!"

The two teens started to run in the direction that Ed ran off to, hoping he would not try to do something drastic…

Meanwhile, back in limbo, we could see Double D and Eddy walking around in the darkness, searching for a way out of this place, if there was even such a thing as an exit. Eddy glanced a little at Double D beside him, he could see that he was acting very nervous, and it was not just because of the situation they were both in. It was because Eddy now knew how Double D felt about him from his journals.

"… Hey."

Double D jumped a little at Eddy's voice, "Yes?"

"Once we both find our way out of here, we should do something to celebrate!" Eddy stated, "Christmas is only like a few days away from now, you know?"

Double D started to become confused and concerned at what he said, "W-What do you mean?"

That was when Eddy stopped walking for a moment, which also made Double D come to a halt, "Eddy?"

"Double D," Eddy started to say, trying to reach out his hand towards Double D's hand, even though their hands phased through each other because of where they were, "I was trying to say we should go somewhere and celebrate; on a date."

Double D stood there for a moment, trying to process what Eddy just said. That's when it hit him, he could feel himself starting to tear up, "Wait, are you being serious…?" he asked him in disbelief, "B-But I thought—"

"Yeah, I'm being serious," Eddy said, interrupting what he was going to say next, "After what I read in your journals, I would be an absolute moron to ignore you or tell you no," he clenched his right hand into a fist for a short moment, looking away from his friend, "I would never push you away like that, so…" he looked back to Double D with a cocky smirk, "We should give it a shot at least once, right? All you had to do was ask me, Sockhead."

Double D was speechless at what Eddy said to him, he could feel himself start to tremble from where he stood, the tears from before started to fall from his eyes. He was about to say something to him in response before the two of them suddenly heard a very familiar voice echo all around them.

"Why…? Why did this have to happen to my friends? WHY?!"

Double D and Eddy widened their eyes at the voice that seemed to come from everywhere, "Eddy, that's Ed's voice!" Double D gasped, "Don't tell me he's also here!"

"No, I don't think so…" Eddy stated as they both looked around. They both could not see their friend anywhere.

It was then the scenery right in front of them started to warp and change, setting a scene that was happening right now back in the world of the living. They could see the top of the roof of the hospital, which was part of the hospital where emergency helicopters used to land people they were carrying; it was very dark right now with very little light around the area. It was then they could both see Ed come into view, he had run all the way up here from inside the hospital. They could see that it was very windy on top of the roof, judging by how much the long part of Ed's jacket was blowing around.

"What the heck is he doing?" Eddy asked.

Ed ran over to the side of the hospital building, glancing over the side of it and looking down below him. He was very high up. The look he had right now on his face and in his eyes was the look of someone in deep despair, "Double D, Eddy. I-I…" they could hear him say in a sad tone of voice as he started to climb onto the ledge to stand there.

Double D widened his eyes in horror, "O-Oh my god…" he turned to Eddy in a panic, "Eddy, we need to stop him! I fear he's going to jump because of what happened to us!"

"Wait, are you freaking serious?!" Eddy yelled in shock.

The two of them could then see two other people try to come over to Ed, it was Kevin and Nazz, "Ed, please stop this!" Nazz yelled to him.

"S-Stay back!" Ed shouted to the two teens behind him, not even turning around to face them, "My best friends are gone forever! I-I… I can't—?!"

"There's no reason to do this, you idiot!" Kevin yelled back, "What would they think if they saw you right now?! You KNOW they would not want you to hurt yourself!"

"W-We gotta try and wake up to make him stop!" Eddy stated with even more panic in his voice as he turned to Double D, "You got any ideas?!"

Double D was also panicking for a short moment before realizing, "Wait, this is the only sort of scenery that's shown up in limbo this whole time," he turned to Eddy with a look of determination, "Maybe if we run towards the scene ahead, it will lead us back to both our bodies and the world of the living! We can stop him after we wake up if we do that! At least, I hope we can!"

Eddy also made a determined face, "Like we have any other choice, come on!"

The two Eds soon dashed off towards the scene in front of them, hoping they could both wake up to stop their friend in time. The two then could start to see a bright light in front of them, yelping a little as it took them away.

Eddy could now feel himself lying down with his eyes closed. He could feel that his neck and throat were in so much pain before he realized something; he was alive! Eddy opened his eyes to see where he was, he was in a hospital bed with a few machines that were hooked up to him hours ago beside him. That's when Eddy remembered what happened a moment ago, and what was happening right now on the roof. He tried to call out for someone to tell them about what was going on… That is, until he realized how much his throat was hurting when he tried to talk, he had become mute. Eddy widened his eyes in horror, 'Uh oh, I can't talk!'

Eddy decided to ignore that fact; for now, he had to find where Double D was, and fast! He jumped out of the bed he was in, despite how much pain he was still in, rushing out of the room to find his friend. He looked to see where in the hospital he was before realizing that Double D's room was right next to his! 'Oh, thank god,' he thought in relief.

Eddy went to open the door to Double D's room, only to see a doctor and Eddy's parents in the room. Everyone widened their eyes at who came into the room, "Eddy?!" His parents gasped in complete shock.

Eddy ran over to Double D's side, forcefully shaking him on his right shoulder to try and make him respond, 'Come on, Sockhead! You gotta get up and help me! Ed's gonna hurt himself if you don't! PLEASE!'

It was then everyone in the room heard a tired groan. Double D was waking up! The doctor that was there was in disbelief at what he was witnessing; the child was in a coma this whole time without any signs of waking up, but now he was responding to a simple shake of his shoulder, "I-It's a miracle!" He uttered out.

Double D started to open his eyes to see Eddy next to him on his right, squinting at him to see if it was him or not. He smiled for a second before widening his eyes in horror, remembering what was going on elsewhere, "Eddy, w-we have to stop him!"

Eddy nodded his head in agreement and, before anyone else in the room could do or say anything, he helped Double D out of the bed he was in so they could both run to the roof. It was while they were trying to get to the roof that Double D immediately noticed something was off, "U-Umm, Eddy? I-I can barely see where I'm going!"

Eddy made a surprised face as he turned to his friend, noticing that Double D almost tripped in front of some medical equipment in front of him. He could actually see that his eyes looked more watery and clouded. Eddy made a small groan in irritation before grabbing Double D's hand, gesturing to him that he would guide him to where they needed to go. They both prayed that they were not too late.

Meanwhile, back on the roof, Kevin and Nazz were still there with Ed, trying to convince him to come back over to them and away from the ledge, but their words did not seem to be convincing him. Everyone there was in a tense silence as Ed stood there, still glancing down from where he stood on the ledge.

Ed began to close his eyes in sadness as tears started to stream from them, "I-I… I'm so sorry! I can't live without my friends!"

Kevin and Nazz widened their eyes in horror as they could see Ed's right foot start to hang over the edge, "ED! PLEASE STOP THIS!"

Everyone widened their eyes at the voice who yelled for him to stop. They turned to see two teens coming over to their side; it was Double D who yelled at him to stop, with Eddy beside him! They were alive and awake!

Ed widened his eyes before his face turned pale as if he heard a ghost. He tried to turn around to see them before realizing he was about to lose his balance, "W-Whoa…!"

The four teens could quickly see what was about to happen; they ran over to Ed and grabbed him by his arms and wrists as he fell over the ledge. It took them a minute to fully pull him back towards the roof, all of them collapsed to the ground in exhaustion from what happened.

It was then the five teens could hear Eddy's parents and the doctors come over to them, as well as some security officers that work for the hospital, "What's going on here?!" An officer asked the teens.

Ed quickly regained his composure, looking at Double D and Eddy with tears in his eyes. He went over to them and embraced his friends in his trademarked Ed-Hug, crying his eyes out with his entire body trembling, "You're both here! My friends are alive! I-I can't believe it!"

Double D and Eddy said nothing to him but could only hug him back to try and make him feel better. Kevin and Nazz sighed a big sigh of relief before looking back to the adults there, who were all standing there in either shock, confusion, worry, or all three emotions at once. They both tried to explain why they were up here on the roof and that they tried to stop Ed from jumping before his friends came in for the save.

Everything was going to be alright now, with everyone being together again.

Author's Note (November 23rd, 2023): Happy Thanksgiving for us here in the US, everyone! If you don't celebrate, that's okay; do a Friendsgiving instead! At least have some good food today if you can! Not sure if the next chapter is the last one for this, but we'll wait and see!
