MoY: Chapter 5

It was now Christmas Eve here in Peach Creek. A lot of snow started to fall from the sky this evening, making it a White Christmas. We soon zoomed in on one of the houses for a moment, where we could see Eddy exiting his house, dressed in a warm, yellow winter hoodie and a purple scarf. He looked towards his destination which was across the street from him.

When both Double D and Eddy got back from the hospital a few days ago, everyone was beyond relieved that they were alive and well from what happened to them. They were also called heroes alongside Kevin and Nazz for saving Ed's life… No one knows how the two of them woke up from their comas to help save their friend from hurting himself, even Double D and Eddy could not explain why this happened like it did. The doctors there called it a miracle that they had woken up at all, not to mention that they woke up about a minute apart from each other.

Unfortunately, not everything was perfect for them afterward. Eddy's vocal cords were badly damaged because of what his older brother did to him, he could not speak at all. At first, the doctors told his parents that his vocal cords were permanently damaged, making him mute for the rest of his life. But when they re-examined him again after he woke up, they could see that the damage was not as bad as they thought it was; he would be able to talk again, but it would take some time to heal, maybe a few weeks to a month at most.

Double D also did not come out in the best shape, but it was not the worst thing in the world. When he woke up from his coma, he noticed that his vision was much blurrier than before; he told Eddy this and asked him to help him find the entrance to the roof to help save Ed because he could not see where he was going. He had his eyes examined the next day, only to find out that his vision had gotten a lot worse because of what happened to him; his eyes were slightly clouded now, but he was not blind. Double D had to start wearing glasses at that point to help him see further away. As much as he did not want to at first, he eventually got used to it when he noticed the many compliments about the frames he chose while he was wearing them, "Maybe this was just a blessing in disguise for my appearance," Double D said to everyone back then, trying to look on the bright side of things.

Anyway, Eddy and Ed were going to meet up with Double D at his house to celebrate Christmas Eve together. It was the most they could do for him since his parents were still away, wherever the hell they were. It honestly made him both angry and upset that Double D was being neglected by his parents. Eddy knew that his parents were usually away somewhere for their job, or so his friend always said, but he thought Double D was not bothered by it… As it turns out, he was becoming more and more lonely over time because of their absence.

Eddy's parents gave him permission to let him stay there for the evening, even for the night if he wanted to, "We can celebrate Christmas tomorrow, Eddy. There's no pressure," his dad told him, "Go and visit your friends tonight, okay?"

Eddy reached Double D's front yard and was about to knock on his door before stopping himself. A wave of nervousness washed over him for some reason, 'Wait, why the heck did I stop?' he thought to himself in confusion, shaking his head from side to side.

Eddy then knocked on his friend's door. It only took a few seconds for Double D to answer, "Greetings, Eddy," he said to his friend with a big smile, a few bits of frost started to form on his glasses from the snow outside, "Come on in, it's a lot colder than I thought it would be today."

Eddy waved his right hand as his greeting, seeing that was all he could do right now. Double D stepped out of the way to let Eddy in his house, "Ed hasn't arrived yet, but I'm sure he'll be here soon."

Eddy walked inside his friend's house, only to see Double D had set up his usual Christmas decorations around his living room, including a somewhat small Christmas tree in the corner. He decided to take off his jacket and scarf, 'I don't need to wear this inside. That would be dumb,' Eddy thought.

He then reached into his back pocket to take out his cell phone to unlock it, pulling up an app on his phone to type something into it, "Did you happen to fix anything to eat or something?" Eddy's phone started to speak in the male text-to-speech voice for him, "You could have asked me for help on that. I know how to cook things, remember?"

Double D turned to him with a bit of a surprised look but quickly hid it away with a smile. Ever since they came back from the hospital, Eddy downloaded an app to use to talk to others via text-to-speech. He said he was going to use the app like this until he could properly recover his voice. He also thought about trying to learn sign language but decided against it since this was only a temporary injury that would heal over time, even if having and learning a skill like sign language would be handy.

"Yes, I did bake a few things, mostly some sweets like sugar cookies and some chocolate-covered pretzels: milk chocolate, dark and white!" Double D told him with a hint of small pride, "It was nothing too extreme, I'm not that good of a cook."

"Yeah, I know," Eddy's phone replied, "I always found it weird that you're a lousy cook, but I'm not. I'd figured you would get better at it over the years, but you never did."

"H-Hey!" Double D pouted a little to him, "I'll have you know that I've been trying to get better at it for a while!"

Eddy went to another app he installed (a mini soundboard of some kind to play any sound effects he puts in it) to play a laugh track to Double D, making a smirk. It was the most he could do to express other vocal things he could not do right now that were not just words.

Double D made a sigh to him, "Either way, I also can make some hot chocolate for you if you want any."

Eddy thought about it for a moment before replying, "Yeah, I'll have some once Ed gets here."

"I see."

Double D walked off towards his kitchen to grab the snacks he made, leaving Eddy in his living room. Eddy made a face of relief before deciding to sit down on the couch. It was while he was sitting there that he remembered what he said to Double D when they were stuck in limbo.

'I don't wanna go back on my word,' Eddy started to think, 'But maybe we should wait until Christmas is over before going somewhere to celebrate… New Year's Eve would probably be a better time for that,' he made a big smile, 'And maybe my voice might be better by then! Man, I freakin' hope so.'

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, we could see Double D sitting out three coffee mugs for him and his friends for the hot chocolate he would fix later. He glanced over to his fridge for a moment, remembering what happened the other day.

According to what the police found out, Evan had snuck into Double D's house while they were away at school, thanks to the spare house key that Eddy usually kept on him; he stole it from Eddy's keyring the night before. He then put thallium in the bottles of water that were in Double D's fridge, hoping that he would eventually grab one of them to drink so it could kill him that night. And it was not just one bottle that was poisoned; it was ALL the bottles, and that terrified him to no end. It could have been very possible that anyone else could have taken a bottle at any point, and it would have killed them… His two best friends could have gone through the same pain he did, which made Double D shutter at the thought.

'I feel so bad for Eddy…' Double D thought to himself with a sigh, 'It really did look like he and his brother were finally getting along, but it was all a convincing act for Evan to try and ruin our lives,' he glanced to his living room for a moment to see Eddy sitting on his couch, 'I hope his brother understands that his attempts to both threaten and harm us just made us closer instead of pulling us apart.'

Double D smiled a little before gathering what he needed from the kitchen; the snacks he made for tonight. He walked back into his living room with the tray of cookies and the container for the chocolate-covered pretzels, sitting them on the coffee table. It was then that Double D noticed something.

"… Huh, I would have expected Ed to arrive by now," Double D stated with a small bit of worry. He walked over to his front door to peek his head out of it to see if he could see his friend anywhere, but it did not look like he was there yet, 'I'll leave the door unlocked for him…' he thought as he closed his front door.

Double D turned back to his living room, walking over to his couch with a small sigh of exhaustion, sitting next to Eddy on his right.

"Something wrong, Sockhead?"

Double D looked at his friend beside him, "Oh, it's nothing important," he replied to him with a small smile.

The two teens sat there for a moment before one of them spoke again, "Hey, I need to ask you something."

Double D looked back at Eddy once again as he could see him typing something else on his phone to say, "What is it, Eddy?"

It took him a few more seconds to finish what he was typing, "Are you doing anything on New Year's Eve? We can try and find a place to watch the fireworks."

Double D stared at him for a moment, "Wait, do you mean just the two of us? And not with Ed?"

Eddy nodded his head in his reply, placing his left hand over Double D's right hand before holding it tightly; to show that he was serious about what he said. Double D could feel himself starting to become nervous, his face became red as his heart started to pound in his chest, "U-Umm…" he muttered before swallowing his nerves and replying, "Alright."

Eddy smirked a little at Double D's response before letting go of his hand to grab his cell phone, typing something into it, "Come on, Double D! I thought you would sound happier than that."

"I-I am happy!" Double D gasped to Eddy before glancing away from him a little, "It's just, umm… I'm still nervous about all of this. What will everyone else say? Will this date even go well? Would we still be friends even if it doesn't work out?!"

"Double D, you need to stop worrying so much."

Double D widened his eyes to Eddy; he had typed this while Double D was rambling to him, "We're both 17 and single! You really need to have more faith in yourself about this kind of stuff, you know?"

"… I know," Double D looked back to him with a smile as he could see Eddy starting to lean in a little closer to him, "Thank you, Eddy…"

"Double D? Eddy?"

"AH!" Double D yelped as both he and Eddy froze a little in fright. They turned around to see Ed standing behind the couch they were sitting on. His head was tilted to the side in confusion, "Ed! When did you get here?!" Double D asked.

"About thirty seconds ago, I think," Ed replied, "I noticed your door wasn't locked, so I came in."

"Oh, I see…" Double D sighed before making a smile to Ed, "I left it unlocked because you were running a little late."

"Sorry about that!" Ed said with a bit of a laugh, "Sarah had me help her with something before I left."

"It's quite alright," Double D chuckled before gesturing to the snacks he had on his coffee table, "You can have some snacks if you want."

Ed smiled at the food, "Thanks!" He stated before going over to sit down in a chair near them to grab a few of the cookies from the tray.

Double D could feel a tug on his sleeve, turning to see that Eddy had written something down on his phone that he did not want to say over text to speech. He basically told Double D that they should tell Ed about their potential new relationship, saying they cannot keep this a secret from him. Everyone else will know about it much later.

Double D made a worried face at what he wrote, "Are you sure about this…?" He whispered to him.

Eddy nodded his head.

"… Alright," Double D replied to him with a small nod.

Double D and Eddy turned to their friend, who was eating one of the cookies he grabbed, "Umm, Ed?"

Ed looked up to his friend, "Yeah?" He asked as he chewed on the cookie.

Double D was silent for a moment before he felt Eddy's hand on his shoulder, encouraging him to continue, "There's something we need to tell you. It's about what happened the other day…"

Double D began to explain to Ed about his feelings for Eddy, telling Ed that he has felt this way to Eddy for a long time, but never said anything about it to anyone. He then told Ed about his encounter with Eddy's brother a few days ago, saying that he was angry at Double D for even being Eddy's friend because of how Double D felt about his brother. This was why Evan took matters into his own hands, trying to get Double D out of the picture by poisoning him. It was after Double D finished explaining things that both he and Eddy noticed how silent Ed was while Double D talked to him.

"… Ed?"

They could both see tears start to form in Ed's eyes and he got up from where he was sitting to come over and give them both an Ed-Hug with a huge smile on his face, "I knew it! I knew this would happen, Double D! I'm so happy for you!"

"H-Huh…?" Double D muttered a little as Ed then let them both out of his hug, adjusting his new glasses back to their proper position on his face, "You knew all along?!"

Ed nodded his head, "Yeah! I was thinking that for a long time," he made a toothy smile, "You always looked at Eddy differently than everyone else did, and that's how I knew!"

Both Double D and Eddy were surprised to hear this; Ed seemed to be a lot more observant than they thought he was.

"I-I see…" Double D replied with a bit of nervousness, "Do you think anyone else figured it out like you did?"

Ed shrugged his shoulders, "I don't know, maybe?"

Ed and Double D could hear Eddy play the laugh track he had on the soundboard of his cell phone before typing something to them, "I guess since Ed knows now, that makes you and me a couple, huh?"

Double D widened his eyes in surprise as he turned to Eddy, "Wait, a-are you certain you—"

He could suddenly feel Eddy grab onto his shirt to pull Double D closer to him and, before he realized what was going on, gave him a kiss on his lips, closing his eyes as he did. Double D widened his eyes in shock at his friend for a few seconds before closing his eyes as well, responding back to Eddy with a kiss of his own; a few tears started to form in his eyes. Ed could only watch them with a big smile on his face, feeling super happy for them both.

Double D and Eddy then separated from their kiss, looking into their eyes before embracing each other. It was a few seconds later that they felt Ed hugging them both again into his Ed-Hug, "Merry Christmas and happy holiday, you guys!" Ed cheered to them.
