A/N: Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you everyone for reading and I really appreciate it!
Chapter Four: November
The interval spanning from Halloween night to Thanksgiving today appeared to zip by in a blend of swiftness and brevity for the youngest Gilmore family member. Rory kept herself busy with newspaper tasks, school assignments, family time and throwing a drink or two in between everything with friends. She has been true to her promise to Logan about making sure she had a life outside of her school work.
A few days before Thanksgiving day, Finn appeared on Rory's computer screen. "Rory!" Finn yells, clapping his hands together for a moment in excitement.
Startled by Finn's sudden appearance on her computer screen, Rory looked up from her tasks and greeted him with a mix of surprise and curiosity. "Finn! What's going on?" she asked, intrigued by his enthusiastic reaction.
"Nothing, love, just overjoyed to lay eyes on you," Finn replied affectionately, his tone filled with genuine excitement. As Rory continued her conversation with him on Skype, she couldn't help but feel a pang of nostalgia for their once close friendship, which had evolved into a sibling-like bond over the years. She recalled how Finn's impish teasing used to bring a playful dynamic into their lives.
While having the website open on her computer screen was initially prompted by a request from Logan, Rory found herself pleasantly surprised by Finn's unexpected appearance. "Are you up to your old tricks again, skipping class and living off Daddy's fortune?" he teased, a familiar twinkle in his eye.
Rory playfully rolled her eyes at Finn's teasing, well aware that she had never been one to break the rules or live a wild lifestyle. "Oh, absolutely, I'm the epitome of a rebel," she replied sarcastically, accompanied by a playful wink. Despite their teasing banter, Rory genuinely cherished their sibling-like bond.
Curiosity piqued, Rory inquired about Colin and Logan's whereabouts. "So, where are Colin, Robert and Logan? What's keeping them busy?" she asked, wondering why they weren't present during their video call.
Finn's response came swift. "Robert met a girl. Logan and Colin are just dropping off a gift," he admitted with a mischievous sparkle in his eyes, leaving Rory even more intrigued by the cryptic nature of the situation. Now she couldn't help but wonder what surprise awaited her.
Just a few days ago, Rory had received a substantial package in the mail from the group of boys. As she reminisced about the thoughtful gesture, she recalled finding a heartfelt note written by Logan on a post-it taped inside the box. The message read, "Hope these keep you warm. Miss you. All my love, L." The familiar handwriting brought back a flood of memories from their shared past.
Inside the box, Rory discovered a collection of postcards capturing the essence of their moments together, a nostalgic snowglobe, and two hoodies that held a special place in Logan's heart. In addition, there was even a bottle of the cologne Logan had worn during that memorable kiss they shared a few years back. The sentimental gifts stood as a testament to their enduring bond.
Rory opens her mouth to ask a question before closing it when she hears the filmar voices belonging to Colin and Logan. "Rory!" Logan greets with a smile on his face when he sees her on the screen.
Rory couldn't help but smile as she heard Logan's familiar voice, his warm greeting filling her heart with warmth. "Hello, Logan!" she responded, her own smile mirroring his. It was always a comfort to see his face and hear his voice, even if only through a screen.
Colin's voice joined the conversation, and Rory greeted him with equal enthusiasm. It felt good to be surrounded by her close-knit group of friends, even if it was only virtually. As Colin suggested that Finn and he should give Rory and Logan some space, she expressed her gratitude, realizing that she needed a moment alone with Logan to catch up and share the countless stories and experiences they had missed.
"Thank you, guys," Rory said with appreciation, watching as the door to the bedroom closed, carving out a private space for her and Logan. She felt a sense of anticipation and excitement as they were finally able to have an uninterrupted conversation, ready to dive into all the things they had to share with each other. "I yelled at a boy yesterday." She begins to recall, knowing Logan would get a laugh at this story.
— Ace —
Thanksgiving passed quietly with a simple dinner at her grandparents' house. Whenever Logan's name came up in conversation, Rory would put on a smile, but inside, she felt the weight of time moving slowly. Her grandmother reassured her that the year would pass by quickly, but Rory couldn't help but disagree.
She recalls taking a phone call from her grandfather's office, everyone who was at Thanksgiving was in between dinner and dessert. "Happy Turkey Day, Ace." Logan greets.
"Happy Thanksgiving," she says, her voice filled with warmth. The sound of his voice has a magical effect on her, melting her heart in ways she can't quite fathom. "How is Australia treating you?"
"Finn's mother is thrilled to have her son back and treating him like royalty," Logan explains. His excitement was palpable through the phone line. "Have you had a chance to think about the text message I sent you this morning?"
"You don't have to get me anything, really. The only thing I truly long for is to have you home for a few days," Rory replies, gently reminding Logan of the promise he made to visit her a few times during their time apart. "I miss you so much, and having you here for a few days over Christmas would be the most perfect gift I could ever ask for."
As Rory finishes speaking, there's a pause on the other end of the line. Logan takes a moment to let her words sink in, filled with a deep sense of longing and love.
"You know what, Rory?" he finally says, his voice filled with determination. "I promise you, I will be there for Christmas. Nothing is going to stop me from keeping that promise to you. And, I miss you too."
A surge of happiness fills Rory's soul as she hears his heartfelt commitment. They may be physically apart for now, but Christmas was soon and they would be spending it together. "I can't wait to see you, Logan," she replies.
