Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 1 of Underworld's Daughter. Thank you to those who have left a review for the prologue. I hope that I continue to please you guys with this next chapter. It took a bit of brainstorming about what to do for this very first chapter. It took me too long to figure out where I wanted to take this first chapter, but I promise you that this chapter is going to turn out well. At least that is what I hope anyway. I do apologize for taking so long with trying to write this next chapter, but I hope that this chapter makes up for the long break that I had. Without further ado Chapter 1 of Underworld's Daughter.
Chapter 1
Ambrosine scoffed as she watched Mal steal a lollipop from a baby. She shook her head causing her blue hair to move some. She hated how easily Mal was able to steal things. She shrunk back when she saw Maleficent coming from the shadows. Her blue eyes narrowed some as she growled at someone who got in her way. She was going to stick around and figure out what was going on. Perhaps it was worthwhile to figure out information for her father.
"Hi, Mom," Mal said looking up at her mother with her bright green eyes.
Maleficent had a look of distaste on her face as she looked at her violet-haired daughter. "Stealing candy, Mal? I'm so disappointed."
Ambrosine felt a growl come to her throat. She tried to hold it back. She hated how Maleficent thought that she ruled the Isle of the Lost when all villains were seen as the same no matter what their crimes were. Some of them were even pitiful and not as harmful as others. Regardless there was always a debt to be paid for being a villain.
"It was from a baby," Mal said, trying to make her mother proud of her.
Maleficent grinned at her daughter coyly. "That's my nasty little girl."
Mal reluctantly gave Maleficent the lollipop.
Maleficent spat on the lollipop and then stuck it under her arm. "Give it back to the dreadful creature."
Mal's nose wrinkled in distaste. "Mom…"
Ambrosine wrinkled her nose wondering why Maleficent thought that the deeds were something that made the crime. She knew that it wasn't what her father thought.
"It's the deeds, Mal, that make the difference between mean and truly evil. When I was your age, I was cursing entire kingdoms. You. Walk with me. See, I'm just, just trying to teach you the thing that really counts... how to be me." Maleficent said twirling causing her dress to move as she smirked.
"I know that. And I'll do better." Mal said, lowering her head.
"Oh! There's news! I buried the lede. You four have been chosen to go to a different school... In Auradon."
Carlos, Jay, and Evie tried to escape but were stopped by Maleficent's minions.
Ambrosine pursed her lips into the thin line as she listened. She knew that her father was going to have to know what was going on. But how was she going to tell him that Mal was going to be going to another school across the barrier where no one would be able to watch over her and report back to him unless there was another way?
Carlos, Jay, and Evie tried to run away but the minions stopped them.
Mal let out a huff of anger blowing her hair from her face. "What? I'm not going to some boarding school filled to the brim with prissy pink princesses!"
"And perfect princes," Evie said with a dreamy sigh.
Mal gave her a look.
"Ugh."
"Yeah, and I don't do uniforms. Unless It's leather. You feel me?" Jay said was about to high-five Carlos.
"I read somewhere that they allow dogs in Auradon. Mom said they're rabid pack animals who eat boys who don't behave." Carlos said, his voice trembling a little bit.
Jay snuck up behind Carlos. "Woof!"
Carlos hit Jay for scaring him.
Ambrosine let out a soft breath shaking her head lightly.
"Yeah, Mom, we're not going," Mal said, shaking her head.
"Oh, you're thinking small pumpkin. It's all about world domination. KNUCKLEHEADS!"
The goons followed Maleficent.
"Mal…"
Ambrosine moved slowly down the various paths to get away from the group leading towards Maleficent's home. She ran her hand through her short hair letting out a groan. She could only imagine what her father was going to say when he found out that Mal was chosen. She made it towards her home that she shared with her father going down the tunnel that led to their home. She could hear the barking of the recording that he had.
She made it back home and noticed her dad lounging on the couch with his sunglasses over his eyes. She removed her jacket that she had on letting out a breath shaking her head lightly. Of course, it would be close to naptime for him.
Hades shifted slowly, opening his eyes and hearing the movements of his daughter. "Ambrosine, what news do you bring?" He questioned stretching out some.
Ambrosine let out a breath and ran her hand through her blue hair. "Mother stopped Mal and her crew."
"For?"
"To tell them that they were going to a new school in Auradon."
"Auradon?"
"Prince's proclamation before becoming king," Ambrosine said, sitting down and crossing at her ankles.
Hades shifted, sitting up and groaning slightly. "Knowing your mother."
"I have a feeling she'll want to use Mal," Ambrosine said, shaking her head lightly. "And whatever the plan is… it's always 'evil'." She used air quotes around evil. "Am I to keep tabs on her more now?"
"I'm sure that with your help and Celia, I will get information on Mal."
"Why not go to her dad? She knows that you are her father… but doesn't know I exist. Mom would never let that slip to Mal."
Hades gripped his hands tightly. He hated the fact that Maleficent wouldn't tell Mal about Ambrosine. It was one of the things that he hated keeping from her. But he supposed Maleficent thought it was her being evil once again not letting Mal know. It was probably one of the reasons why Maleficent gave Ambrosine to him because she looked almost identical to him down to the hair and eyes. "Because if I do it will give something for your mother to hold over me."
Ambrosine came over to her father and kneeled next to his long legs. "I'm sorry, dad." She said softly, leaning up against him.
Hades' hand went to his daughter's blue hair and stroked it some. He didn't want to put his daughter through the pain of meeting her mother. It would tear his heart out if she ever got to meet how her mother truly was.
"Dad… I don't want to meet her." She said softly, leaning her head against his leg. "She left me to you to raise."
Hades felt his heart clench in his chest. He knew right then and there she hated her mother as much as he hated her. "Don't you have somewhere to be?"
"She doesn't need me right now. She's working at the fish shop again." She said taking a soft breath.
"You could do more than a pirate crew."
"Not many people want Hades' daughter. I'm dangerous." She said softly letting out a breath and shaking her head. She was thankful that Uma wasn't afraid of her and wanted her to be on the crew.
