CHAPTER 6

Padme and Anakin discussed the details of the arrangement. They decided they were going to live in her apartment so that Anakin could rent out his flat and use that money to pay off his mortgage, in a way she felt like it was a small way to repay him for this huge favor he was doing for her, obviously he was not going to pay any rent to Padme but they would split the bills and everything else. Padme had a second room where Anakin would stay and that way, they could both have some privacy. Truth to be told Padmé wasn't too excited about the idea of having a roommate, she was used to and liked living by herself, she liked everything to be tidy and clean and she wasn't sure what was Anakin's lifestyle, she was sure that he would try to fit in as best as possible but she didn't want to make him uncomfortable so she might have to compromise in certain things.

Padmé had already talked to Sabe about everything that was going on, to say she was surprised was an understatement she immediately told her she had to tell Satine "She is already in the dark about your deportation, I don't think you should hide this from her"

"I won't, she's on her way here and I will tell her what as long as she wants to know" Sabe gave her a confused look but before she could ask any further questions the doorbell rang, quickly Padme welcomed Satine and told her she needed to talk to her about something serious, Satine took a sit in the couch of Padme's living room next to Sabe.

Padme sat in front of Satine and said "There's something huge going on in my life that I haven't told you about yet" Satine nodded signaling her to continue "But before I tell you, you must know that there are some legal implications to this, so I want to make sure you want to know before I say anything else to you"

"Did you kill someone?" Satine asked

"No"

"Did you hurt someone in any way or form"

"No"

"Does Sabe know?"

"Yes"

Satine stayed silent for a while giving herself a few minutes to think whether she wanted to hear this or not before finally saying "Ok, go on, tell me"

"So, about two weeks ago I got the news from my boss that my green card application was rejected and that I was getting deported and needed to leave in 2 weeks and a half"

"Oh My God Padme, why are you just telling me about this now?!"

"Oh, let her finish, this is not even the worst part" Sabe said sly smile on her face

"Go on then"

"So up until two days ago that was still the case" she paused trying to put into words what had happened during the weekend "However that is no longer the case because Anakin and I got married this weekend in Las Vegas while we were drunk" she just blurted it out

"WHAT?!" Satine turned to look at Sabe who was just nodding as to affirm Satine that this was real "Legally?"

"Yes" "The plan was to get the marriage annulled but then he proposed we should stay married so that i can apply for the green card and I agreed"

"Oh My God, Padme this is HUGE!" "Wait so you didn't plan to get married in Las Vegas?"

"NO! Not at all, it wasn't planned, it just happened while we were drunk, I'm still unsure about the details"

"Oh so that's why you guys got a separate room!"

"Yeah"

"But you are sure nothing happened?"

"Positive" "We were way too drunk for anything to happen"

"Oh My God, I can't believe you are actually married" said Satine with joy putting her hands on her face trying to contain her emotion

"Yeah don't get too emotional, remember it's not a real marriage"

"C'mon! Are you really trying to tell me you don't believe Anakin has feelings for you after this?" "He literally got married to you so that you would stay in the country"

Padme shook her head "It's not like that! He is doing this because he's my friend"

"You cannot possibly be this daft!" exclaimed Satine "Ok then how about how you feel?"

"He's a friend" Satine let out a groan in frustration and looked in Sabe's direction who was only giving her an "I know" look

"Even if he liked me or I liked him, which is NOT the case for either one of us... It doesn't matter because we already talked about it and we are going to keep everything platonic for the sake of this working out and to avoid anyone getting hurt"

"Good luck with that" muttered Sabe under her breath

"Fine" "Well this is crazy but the fact that you are staying here is the most important thing to me so I'm happy even though I think this could go wrong in so many ways"

"Right and to avoid that..." Padme stood up and pulled out a blackboard that was behind her couch "We need to go over some details because sooner or later you might be contacted by the immigration officer who's taking over my case" "So in case you do get contacted your stories need to match, now if you feel the need to take notes which I highly encourage you to do, please do not take them on your cellphones since I don't want any digital evidence of this" maybe she was being too paranoid but she was not going to risk it, she gave each of them a yellow pad and a pen "So please take notes on paper"

She explained to them how this was the official story that Anakin was telling Obi-wan, Ashoka and Lux so that they would also be prepared, no one but the people who were on the Las Vegas trip knew about this arrangement. "Ok, so Anakin and I started dating a year ago, meaning August of last year, however since Anakin obviously has dated a few girls in this whole year the official story is that we started as something casual and not exclusive, that would justify him dating the girl he dated for 3 months back in august" they were writing down as Padme went, she was also writing it down on her blackboard "After 3 months of casually going out we started to catch feelings for each other so we decided to give it a go and started formally dating for 2 months, meaning that during that time it was more serious than before but still not exclusive, during that time neither one of us were dating anyone but Anakin did have a few one-night stands, so that would justify that" "And after those 2 months, we became exclusive. So that means we were exclusive after 5 months of fooling around and dating"

"So from the whole year you guys have "been dating"" Sabe said quoting the dating part "You've only been exclusive for the last 7 months"

"That's right" "Is everything clear so far?" both Satine and Sabe nodded in agreement "Ok, Anakin proposed to me exactly 2 months ago, in June, there was no ring because he just made a downpayment to his flat, that part is actually true, so he had no money to give me the ring he knows I want and deserve. Which we all know is a classic Harry Winston ring"

"Right" said Satine

"So he is saving for the ring and will give it to me after he finishes paying off his mortgage which coincidentally will be in 2 years, which is when we are getting separated, but I'm getting ahead of myself"

"boy you really have this all planned," said Sabe "So just to be clear the only people who know about this... situation are the ones who went to the trip" Padme nodded "What about your parents or Anakin's?" Isn't it a bit weird that neither of your parents knew you got married or were in a relationship?"

"It's a bit weird but Anakin doesn't really share a lot of details about his dating life with his mom and I've met her a few times so I think she could believe that we are an item. And in regards to my parents the official reason why I didn't tell them is because of the traumatic experience I had in my previous relationship. I wil just say that I didn't want to go through the humiliation again of telling my friends and family that I was proposed to only to get cheated on" "so I wanted to make sure we were engaged for a little longer before I officially told anyone"

"Ok, yes that sounds good" Said Sabe

"So the original plan was to get married one year later after getting engaged, you know to plan the wedding and all that but since my green card application was denied we had to speed things up and tied the know in Las Vegas with our closest friends but still are planning to have a big ceremony with friends and family in a year or two"

They continued discussing the details to make sure they got everything right. On Anakin's side things were not going so smoothly, he gathered with Ashoka, Lux and Obi-Wan to tell them about their plan and to go over the "relationship timeline" with them so that if they were contacted they would all have the same story, but he wasn't able to get past the part that he got married in Las Vegas.

"You did What?" Obi-wan exclaimed "Anakin, have you completely lost your mind?"

"Yes mate, I have to agree with Obi-Wan, I think you went overboard on this one" said Lux while he took a sip of his beer

"I don't agree with them, I think what you are doing is really sweet" said Ashoka

"Yes sweet and crazy" said Obi-wan "Anakin, this is getting too far. Can you honestly tell me you are not just doing it because you have feelings for her?"

"She is a friend and I'm helping her as a friend"

"Really? A bit too friendly isn't it? Getting Married" added Lux

"exactly! Would you marry Ashoka just so that she could stay in the country?"

"As a matter of fact, I would, because that is something a true friend would do" "Hell I would even marry you if you asked nicely"

"He's right Obi, I think Anakin would do that for any of us at this table" said Ashoka, and Obi-wan knew it was true.

"Perhaps, but my point still stands" "Look if you have decided this is what you want to do I support it but I don't think this can end well".

"Which is precisely why we need to talk about the timeline of this relationship to make sure we avoid any mistakes"

"What about your dating life?" asked Lux

"Well we agreed that we could not date for at least the first 3-6 months depending on how strict the immigration officer is, after that we are obviously allowed to date as soon as it's private and under the radar"

After talking for a while and explaining to them everything he and Padmé had discussed they all agreed they would cooperate and help as much as possible, they left one by one until there were only Obi-wan and Anakin left.

Obi-wan sighed "I don't like this Anakin"

"Are you worried about the legal aspect of it? Because if that is..." he couldn't finish as he was interrupted by Obi

"I'm not worried about that, I think it will be easy to convince anyone that you guys are a couple, I don't even have to lie to the immigration officer, I can just say that ever since you met Padme you've been in lover with her and never even bother to hide it" Anakin just stayed silent, didn't even bother to contradict him "I'm afraid of how this will affect you".

"What do you mean?"

"You are going to be living together, seeing each other every day at work, pretending to be in love... I can only see this going one way or another"

"And how is that?"

"You either end up hating each other or fall in love"

"We could also just remain friends"

"Not with you my friend, I'm afraid I know you too well and I know you tend to go to from one extreme to another but never to the middle" "Best best-case scenario is that you both fall in love"

"Would that be so terrible?"

"No, that is indeed the best outcome but what happens if you fall in love with her and she doesn't? What if she finds someone and falls in love and leaves you?"

"We've talked about this, anyone is free to end this at any given point, if she falls in love with someone then that's it, there's nothing I could or would do about it" "I'm not doing this so that I can woo her into falling in love with me. How many times do I have to tell you this is out of pure care and friendship, I want to help her and I don't want anything in return... regardless of how I feel about her"

Obi-wan took a good look at him and nodded "I believe you and I admire what you are doing, I just wouldn't want to see you hurt or her for that matter".

"We both care for each other and are taking the measures to avoid this from getting any messier than it has to be"

Anakin understood Obi-Wan was just trying to look after him, and he appreciated it, after talking a bit more they left the bar and went home. Even though he had already talked to Padme and his friends he still felt like it was all very surreal and the fact that he was supposed to be moving in with her this weekend terrified him a little. Sure the fact that he was going to rent out his apartment to pay off the mortgage was a nice benefit and Padme's apartment was quite nice, he would have his own room and privacy but he was still going to be sharing a flat with a woman, a woman that he found attractive and now thank's to Obi-wan meddling was confused about his feelings for her. Obi-wan was right as much as it pained to admit it, spending so much time with her could only lead to him catching feelings for her because he definitely could never hate her. This was probably going to be harder than what he thought but he was going to try to control his feelings and emotions as much as possible, he couldn't mess this up.
