Remember Alpha used Na'el as his vessel?
Wanna know why?
Lights.
Blinding lights.
That was what Matthew saw after he opened his eyes again after landing a deadly punch on the thing whatever Alpha turned himself to.
And in the blinding lights, Matthew witnessed Alpha's original form.
Along with his soothing voice.
"Matthew…."
"Matthew…."
"The future is now uncertain now. Do you have any regrets…?" Alpha said, as if he was sad to see the future's certainty disappearing. As much as Matthew wanted to look like a chad who never had any regrets in his life, he couldn't lie. He was a regular guy, not perfect. He made mistakes and messed up several times in his life. Rather, he was a man full of mistakes and regrets.
So, to finish off this mindless machine, Matthew decided to tell his true feelings.
"Of course I have regrets! But you know what? That's why we can move forward. That's what us humans do!" Matthew said, showing his hard fists.
"I see…" Alpha nodded, as he slowly faded away. Matthew felt a sense of relief as he finally saw the machine starting to disappear, but he had one question. The one he wanted to ask for a long time in his journey.
"Alpha."
"Yes, Matthew…?"
"I have one question."
"Speak, Matthew."
"…Why. Why did you decide to pick my sister as your vessel?" It was a simple, yet complicated question. Yeah, yeah, he did hear the reasons before, about core crystals and shit, but he wanted the true answer. He knew that Alpha was up to more than that. And he demanded answers.
"….I can give you a simple answer." Alpha nodded.
"Then tell me. Why did you use Na'el?" Matthew asked.
"Hmm… Do you really want to know…?"
"Yeah! If I don't hear that, I might add that to my regret list." Matthew said with confidence.
"Okay then…."
"I…." Alpha started his answer.
"You….?"
"Wanted to be a catgirl." Alpha finished his answer, and….
Matthew froze.
"You…WHAT?!"
"I said, I wanted to be a catgirl." Alpha repeated.
"No, no, no, I don't need any repeats! I… Oh shit, why did I even ask that?"
"Do you have any regrets?"
"Of course I have regrets! But you know what? That's why I'm gonna move backward. Bye, Alpha." Matthew said, announcing a sudden goodbye.
"What? Why are you leaving all of a sudde…"
"I think my body rejects this situation. Once again, bye, Alpha. I'm going back to my sister." Matthew said, not even turning his head back.
"Matthew, I…." Alpha tried to say something, but…
He completely vanished as Matthew exited the light.
As Matthew exited the light, the party greeted him.
"Matthew! What happened inside?" Nikol came and asked desperately, as if he was worried.
"You did spend some time there, Matthew." A said, keeping her stoic expression.
"I… Uh… You know what? I'm not gonna talk about it. I kinda want to forget about it." Matthew sighed.
"What? That's laaame! Come on, Matt, you can at least tell your sister about it!" Na'el complained.
"I'm especially not gonna tell you, Na'el." Matthew declared.
"That makes us pretty curious, ain't it, Shulk?" Rex said.
"Certainly…." Shulk nodded.
"Come on, don't spoil the fun!" Glimmer added.
"You call this fun?" Matthew said.
"At least give us some clues! It could have been some important things about the Origin!" Panacea interrupted.
"…Do I really have to…?"
"Yup." Rinka added.
"Then… I'll tell you one single word. It's…related to the word… 'Cat'." Matthew said, carefully word-after-word.
"Cat….?" The party all looked confused.
Except for A.
"Oh… Oooh…. I…think I get it…" A said, her stoic expression collapsing a bit.
"Oh? You get it quick, A. How did you know?" Matthew said.
"Since… I was once one with Alpha… As he disappears… His memories start to come into my head… And… Uh… Ugh, forget about it…" A sighed, especially locking her eyes on Na'el.
"Now, then do you understand why I tried to not tell you this?"
"I…do. It's pretty….phenomenal, I guess…." A sighed.
(Omake)
The party, except for Matthew and A, was still confused by the secret conversation between Alpha and Matthew.
But outside the party…
There was a man who was not confused at all.
It was N.
Due to coincidence and convenient positioning… He managed to hear some of the conversations between them. And especially, when he heard the hint… He deciphered Matthew's code.
After hearing that, N decided to act.
He slowly approached the party, step by step.
And of course, the party kinda tensed up, as the masked Moebius approached them.
"Uh… Mate, what's up?" Matthew said, as he saw the Moebius getting closer.
But N didn't answer.
Instead…
He approached A, and patted her shoulder.
"What…?" A stared N in pure confusion.
"I understand. All of them. I truly do." N nodded.
"What are you… Oh, you mean…" A tried to question the Moebius, but as she succeeded to decipher the man's intention… Her face got red.
"….." N nodded, gazing into A's eyes.
"Wh…What the heck's happening here? N, mate, what are you up to?" Matthew questioned the Moebius.
"I think you already know the answer," N said, returning to his original position.
"What the heck are you sa…"
"Oh." Matthew quickly calmed down, as he realized the Moebius' secret motive.
"N?"
"What."
"Guess you weren't half bad after all."
N, you simp.
