They are outnumbered however and start to lose ground. But the invaders are forced to divide their attention due to other nations taking notice of the spacecraft now in orbit.

When informed of the situation the militaries of the world began to mobilize, a massive missile launch into orbit gave them the needed reprieve for their land forces to prepare.

Thanos meanwhile had acquired the soulstone and rendezvoused with Ebony Maw on titan.

From there they headed to Earth where they learned how over the timespan of a week the attack had turned from a quick assault to a full on siege of the planet. Princess Shuri had successfully removed the stone from Vision and it was hidden by the sorcerers.

Primarch Fados looked out the window of the shuttle as it flew over Palaven's capital city to the location for the meeting. A park located on the edge of the city.

It had been two weeks since the world had been invaded. In that time he had been forced to agree to a cease fire, which thankfully the admiralty had abided by, despite several officers trying to push for a counter attack with the forces from outside the Palaven system.

Princess Hela had dictated to him what she expected to occur after she and her two brothers tore apart the impregnable bunker he had been located.

He, along with six advisors and ten guards, would fly to the human encampment on the outskirts of the city and from there they would be transported to Asgard. Where the negotiations between the Hierarchy and the human's Alliance would take place. Given the fact that the Asgardians had successfully invaded the most secured planet of the entire citadel community, he was willing to follow the princess's ….. suggestions.

So he had called General Vordak the overall commander of the Hierarchy military, Admiral Phares the newly appointed fleet admiral of the navy, General Zervos the commander of all ground forces. Magistrate Valurous, head adjudicator of the judiciary hierarchy, Treasurer Rictus who was in charge of the financial hierarchy, and Representative Vakarov who headed the legislative hierarchy.

The seven of them were the highest tiers of the Hierarchy and Fado was confident that they would act accordingly. They couldn't risk coming off as belligerent or unruly before the Asgardians or the human representatives.

They had already reviewed the events that had led to their current predicament. They knew they couldn't rely on the citadel law for their justification of the attack on Shanxi. So they had already discussed what they were able or willing to offer in terms of reparations.

The others spoke very little during the flight to the human encampment and after landing they stood up and followed him down the ramp.

Waiting for them was a pair of human soldiers. They were wary but professional with their greetings. They led the Turian delegation to a sectioned off area of grass that looked to have been burned.

Once there they presented their group to what he thought was a pair of large humans. But on closer inspection he recognized their armour as being Asgardian, granted they were more individual in design than the others he had seen in his reports.

The one on the right had armour of red and silver coloration with a large amount of red fur on its face. The one on the left wore a silver and green armor and had a much lighter and sparser collection of fur on its face.

The Asgardians nodded in greeting to the humans then addressed Fados and his compatriots..

"Well met Primarch Fados. I am Volstagg and my companion is Fandral. We are to be your escorts for the duration of the negotiations. If you would please wait a moment we will call our transportation. Now please, do not be alarmed."

The Hierarchy representatives waited for them to radio their ship when Volstagg looked up to the sky.

"Heimdall!" He shouted to the sky, "we are ready!"

Fados looked over at the humans to see if they were equally confused, but saw that some had the same expressions of an excited asari.

A loud hum filled the air and he looked up to see one of the multi colored columns streak down from the sky onto the human delegation. He stifled a curse as the guards jumped between him and the beam of light.

Volstagg held up his hands to the guards,

"Peace warriors! It is simply a beam to transport you to Asgard. It will not harm you in any way, at most it will make you nauseous."

The guards did not move from their position in front of him but Fados realized that this was the reason the humans had gone first. To show them what to expect and that it was not harmful.

"Stand down, return to your positions." The black watch soldiers immediately fell in line at their primarch's command.

"Apologies Volstagg, we were not prepared to witness such an event up close."

"No apologies needed Primarch. I commend your guards on not hesitating in their duties! Now then, brace yourselves, Heimdall!"

Fados looked up as the hum returned and saw the light descending on them. He stared unflinching as it came down and smelt the smoke from the grass burning before experiencing a weightless sensation. He marveled at it for a second then felt himself being shot upwards at a startling rate.

He looked around and saw the rest of his group floating nearby. Surrounding them was a wall of bright colored light. Beyond that he caught glimpses of what looked to be nebulae, star clusters and other astronomical bodies or events he had only heard of.

They all zipped past him, or more accurately he zipped past them, in a blink of an eye before he felt himself slow down. Ahead of him was the end to the tunnel. For a moment he thought they would arrive head first but he felt his body shift and he stepped onto solid ground again.

He looked around and saw a massive asgardian wearing intricate golden heavy armour from head to toe, standing atop a pedestal with his hands wrapped around a lever that he assumed controlled the beam somehow.

"Primarch Fados," spoke the new asgardian "I bid you and your colleagues welcome to Asgard. I am Heimdall, the gatekeeper of the realm."

The Turians exchanged greetings as the bi frost opened again and Volstagg and Fandral exited it. Once they had, Heimdall twisted the lever, which seemed to cut the power to the Bifrost . Then he gave a yank and the lever came up to reveal a massive sword with a blade that was as tall as Fados was.

Heimdall walked to the doorway leading out and posted himself there with the sword clasped in both hands, point touching the ground. As the turians made to walk past Heimdall addressed them.

"Know this, you have been invited to Asgard by the royal family, while here you will be considered honored guests. None shall harm you, our forces will die to defend you.

However, should you attack any citizen or take any actions with the intention to cause harm to the people or the city your protection will be voided and you will be dealt with accordingly."

"Understood, Gatekeeper."

"Follow your escorts to the boats, they will take you into the city. Farewell Primarch."

Fados returned the farewell then stepped outside and saw two crafts waiting for them.

They looked similar to aquatic vessels he had seen before. They were roughly 10 meters long and three meters wide with a smooth hull and an open top with two fins protruding from the back section of it. They didn't have any engines that he could see, so he was not sure what they used for propulsion.

Fados greeted the asgardian crew of the transport that Volstagg led them to and followed him onboard. He was checking to make sure all of their group were on board when he glanced back towards the Bifrost and froze.

He blinked several times, but the sight did not change. The water flowing beneath them was pouring over a cliff that led out into space.

Actual space.

He could see the stars clearly as if he was looking out from the window of a ship. He was so stunned by the sight, and the improbability of it, he didn't notice they were moving. He would have fallen if Treasurer Rictus hadn't quickly grabbed his arm and held him upright.

Nodding his thanks he turned from the apparent edge of the world and looked at the city on the coast which the multi colored road led to.

The city certainly looked unlike any city he had seen, especially for such a highly advanced species. The streets were paved stone, several buildings were built completely out of wood. He even looked down at one point and saw an Asgardian shaping metal with a hand held hammer.

"These Asgardians certainly don't give the impression of being a space faring species" said Magistrate Valurous under his breath.

"I agree Magistrate," General Zervos looked over the passing city. "They have the appearance of a simplistic society, but this location and their means of intergalactic travel baffle me."

"I doubt many people, especially the salarians, would believe our recount of this place."

The other nodded in agreement with Admiral Phares's statement, barely grasping the very notion of how the physics of gravity would work in such a place.

"Depending on how the meeting goes we can ask to record the return trip." Fados said as he looked forward to the large structure ahead.

The golden building towered over everything in the city and looked to be the only structure that had advanced technology used in it's construction. He could see weapon turrets at four different points and a cross bridge that seemed to be made of light.

They flew up to a balcony and the crew guided them smoothly to a stop. They left the vessels with Volstagg and Fandral in the front leading them inside. The space they entered was flanked by columns that rose to the vaulted and intricately painted ceiling.

The columns continued along the side till they met a series of steps at the far end.

The steps lead up to a massive golden throne with intricate interlocking designs engraved into the seat and the artistic arches branching off it's back.

Seated upon it was an aged looking asgardian in a regal set of armor. One eye was covered by what looked to be a golden plate and in the asgardian's hand was a tall staff with an ornamental end. The individual, who had to be the king of Asgard, Odin. The king watched impassively as they walked forward with a presence most asari matriarchs would only dream of having.

To his sides were four other asgardians. On his left was an older female with brown fur wearing a gown of light blue. If he recalled correctly it would be the Queen, Frigga. The remaining three he remembered from them storming the bunker they all met in.

Hela, Thor and Loki stood wearing outfits that look more formal than functional. None of them were holding any weapons, but he had no doubt they were more than capable of handling any threats they might present.

His delegation and the human delegation walked up to the first set of stairs and followed Volstage's direction to stand there.

"Allfather." Volstagg addressed the seated asgardian as he fell to one knee. "I present to you the honorable delegations of the turian Hierarchy led by Primarch Fados and the human System Alliance led by President Sarah Nelson."

The king then spoke with a voice that sounded absolutely ancient to Fados.

"Primarch Fados, President Nelson, step forward."

The two did as instructed and the allfather looked them in the eye before speaking again.

"These talks are for the purpose of ensuring peace. You and your companions will act with civility for the duration of this gathering, as befitting the offices you hold and the people you represent.

The tables you see before you are where you will be conducting your business. Be seated Primarch Fados, and you as well President Nelson. The rest of you" he addressed the others waiting at the first steps. "Come and join your leaders, guards will be seated at the tables next to the pillars."

Once everyone was seated Odin stamped his staff three times upon the floor. Either it weighed more than it looked, or was designed to be magnified, because the sound it made when it stuck was akin to thunder echoing the length of the hall.

"I, Odin king of Asgard, declare these talks officially open."

"Well, that went better than expected."

Fados had to agree with the Admiral, considering they had surrendered unconditionally and the humans had the advantage, both military and politically, they could have been forced to endure much harsher reparations.

The talks had taken roughly 7 hours to debate and an additional 2 to agree on the conditions and details. Faster than he thought possible but he wasn't complaining. While Asari were on the average better at finding compromises and mediation then the turians, they did have a tendency to drag out meetings like this. If it had been the asari over seeing the talks they would have had to spend a week to finish everything.

Thankfully the humans had been to the point and the asgardians did not see the benefit in endless discussions. Every time they reached an impasse or got off topic Queen Frigga would intervene and get things back on track. The one time the conversation got heated Odin called them to order, threatening to send those who acted in a manner unbecoming out of the hall and not allowing them to participate.

The treaty they had agreed on consisted of nine conditions.

The first one was that the Hierarchy had to publicly apologize to the system Alliance for initiating the conflict.

Secondly, both sides would pay certain reparations for damages in raw materials, Asgard had offered to pay half of the human's reparations due to their involvement. In terms of quantity the Hierarchy would be pay nearly four times what the humans would pay for being the instigators.

Thirdly, the Hierarchy agreed to not initiate, aid or participate in any armed conflict against The System Alliance, with the humans agreeing to similar terms.

Fourth, all territory taken would be returned to the Hierarchy. Except for the systems connecting to relay 314.

Fifth, the System Alliance would allow the Hierarchy to return to Shanxi to recover their fallen soldier's remains. However, all ships captured over Shanxi would be kept by the alliance, to be used as they saw fit or sold back to the Hierarchy.

Sixth, the System Alliance had permission to port at 8 different Hierarchy planets for the purpose of trade. On the condition that they notify the planet 30 of that it's days in advance of their arrival and present a full inventory of products. Weapons, ordnance, narcotics and illegal

Seventh, the Hierarchy would allow a group of scientists to attend a lecture on the principles of mass effect at a university of the Primarch's choosing.

Eighth, both sides agreed, the idea being Queen Frigga's, to send a group of historians and sociologists to study each other's cultures via museums and literature exchanges.

The ninth and final condition was for both sides to host an embassy from the other. When the Primarch had asked President Nelson if they would be interested in having one on the citadel as well she politely declined. Stating that they would prefer to have formal introductions with the rest of the governments before agreeing.

The delegations had been offered a balcony to relax on while they waited on the scribes, another oddity of Asgard. Fados couldn't honestly remember the last time he saw an official document being handwritten. The balcony had food for both humans and turians set out for them to eat and looked out over the city.

The sight they had from it was incredible. The sun had started to set over the... ocean? He wasn't sure how such a body of water on a planet like this would be classified. If this place actually qualified as a planet. The orange light covered the city as large torches were lit to provide lighting for the streets in the encroaching dark. What they ran off of or why they didn't use electricity was another oddity to add to his growing list.

Fados's inner musings were interrupted when someone came up to stand next to him. He turned to discover it was Queen Frigga herself.

"Would I be wrong in assuming you are trying to figure out how to fit our home into the categories you're accustomed to?"

"No you wouldn't your highness." replied Fados with a small chuckle. "Is that a common thing for visitors to do when they come here?"

"Oh yes, some hid it better than others, but they all do it. The humans were very much like yourself. Pondered in silence while trying to be polite."

"I wish I could have seen your home on better circumstances. Then I would have had more time to spend getting confused by this place."

"Unfortunately most people visit us due to conflict or similar reasons. It is an unfortunate product of being a mediator for so many different civilizations."

"You mean there are more than you and the humans?"

She smiled at him as she took a sip from her goblet. "Oh yes Primarch. In truth your citadel only has a small portion of the known people in this galaxy."

"So Asgard acts like a universal police?"

"Not universal, we watch over and protect nine realms personally. Sometimes we prevent them from fighting each other, sometimes we protect them from external dangers."

"Like my people?"

"Unfortunately yes. For what it's worth I am sorry for the deaths we inflicted on your people."

Fados looked at her and based on his experience with asari he believed her to be sincere.

"Thank you Queen Frigga, while the deaths will be hard to forget I understand your actions, even respect them. The Hierarchy places an emphasis on duty and your people were fulfilling yours by coming to the aid of your allies."

They talked for the duration of the recess then entered the hall again for the affixing of their signatures.

The two copies had been placed on the tables, One written in a flowing script for the humans. The other in the rigid Turian characters. The representatives signed both copies with King Odin affixing the royal seal as witness.

Once it was finished Odin bid them a safe journey and they departed the hall. They were given permission to record the return journey and the soldiers used their cameras to record the great hall and their return flight to the Bifrost .

They arrived to find Heimdall still in the gateway as they left him.

"Greetings Primarch, I am heartened that you and your colleges proved yourselves worthy of your positions. It is never easy to forfeit one's pride, even when in the pursuit of a larger goal. May history vindicate your actions and your descendants learn from your example."

He then turned on his heel and walked to the pedestal, he plunged his sword into it and gave the grip a twist.

Once he did, the walls of the building shifted and began to spin. Energy crackled and jumped along the designs engraved into it as the wall spun faster and the whole structure began to tilt sideways.

The former roof settled to the position facing toward the void and the multicolored light illuminated the room as it formed a portal. Both parties bid farewell to Volstagg and Fandral then began filing through the light. Fados was one of the last, taking one last look back ass he entered the Bifrost .

His last view of Asgard was of Volstagg and Fandral at the base of the podium, Heimdall standing with the Bifrost energy illuminating his armour with the palace in the background glowing with the last light of the setting sun. Then he felt himself go weightless and he zoomed back to his home.

Thou he expected to never see it again, he doubted that this would be the last he would hear of Asgard or feel their influence.
