So this is going to be a bit of a longish author note, and as usual, you're all free to skip it, though I highly encourage you to read through all of it. Devil May Cry is… special. It is to me, and if you're reading this fic, it probably is to you as well. If I'm writing something for DMC, I want it to be cool. There can't be compromises. It has to have the style, and it has to have the depth. When I started writing this fic, I had a feeling it was going to be well received. That much was a given. Dante is in it, after all. But as I wrote the chapters, I found it had potential. It was a proper story. And it got more than a little bit of support. I learnt more about the DMC communities.
I'm rambling a bit, so I'll get to the point: the fic is continuing! It was always going to continue. So, Guest reviewer san (you know who you are), you needn't worry. I appreciate all the support. Thank you! This fic isn't going anywhere. As many of you know, I'm writing a bunch of other fics at the same time. This is on top of work and original material, and also a little bit of relaxation, so each individual story might not update as quickly as before. There are times when I might focus on one more than another, since I write all this myself (I don't have a beta reader or co-writer for my fics). So try and be a little patient with me.
If you want to make sure this fic continues (or any fic, really), the best thing you can do is to support the writer. Creating art, writing stories: it's a lot of work, and it's often pretty lonely. Being able to share it with others, knowing it's making others happy, adding some value to their lives: that gives us the motivation to carry on. So if there's an underrated fic out there, some undiscovered gem that you love, something as simple as leaving an honest review telling the author what it means to you can encourage them to continue. Who knows: maybe a fic you thought was dead could come back to life.
As for me, as I've said, I'm working on original stuff too. I'd be thrilled if, when the time comes, you could all check that out too, and even more so if you support it. Of course, for that to happen, it would have to be cool first, right?
And, of course, many of you messaged me with DMC fics you wanted me to read. Some of you ask me lore questions, and I answer as best as I can. I want to shout out good DMC fics that I come across, but I feel like it'd be disingenuous if I did it without at least checking out those stories first. So I'll try to do that before suggesting them here.
About DMC material: I would personally like to raise this fic to an M rating, since that is how I normally prefer to write, however, I think it wouldn't be fair to people here who came here to read something rated T. I very much plan to do more DMC fics in the future as well, including fan comics. One project I'd love to take on would be a crossover with Bayonetta. So DMC fans here, I'd love to hear your opinions on that.
As for the people here who are from the RWBY side of things, I haven't forgotten about you all either. Writing a fic with many characters takes more time: after all, I have to consider that many different points of view. That's one of the reasons that I can't at this stage turn out updates as frequently as before, since I've developed various characters in specific ways here, and I need to figure out how they'd react to various events that might happen.
With all of that said, I think it'd be unfair to send you all back without something. This isn't a proper update to the story. But it's more than just an omake. Read on, and enjoy.
Special Chapter:
Dante hovered above Beacon.
No hiding it anymore, huh?
The entire world had seen it. It seemed strange to think of. Back on Earth, it would have been unthinkable. It just went to show what a powerful thing perspective was. On Earth, the sight of his demon form would have caused hysteria and panic. There would probably be any number of rookie paranormal investigators and demon hunters who'd come after him, not to mention the world's armies.
Here on Beacon, the sight of him had had the exact opposite effect.
People had cheered. They'd looked at him, and he'd seen some hope return to their eyes.
Is this what Dad felt like?
It wasn't often that Dante thought of his father.
Some relationships were so profound, that thought didn't quite do them justice.
Sparda had said everything he needed to with his actions.
He lived with no regrets, that for sure.
On Earth, he had kept himself secret, because that had been best. Here, if seeing him gave people some hope, then maybe… maybe he didn't need to stay in the shadows anymore.
He allowed himself to descend, until finally, he landed softly on the grass, not having reverted to his human form.
"Dante?"
From the residential building, he saw a figure walking towards him.
As Glynda Goodwitch approached, Dante wondered how exactly he was supposed to deal with this. He wasn't sure what to expect.
Ultimately, he decided to do what he always did: be himself.
"Hey there. Fancy seeing you out here."
"I teach here, remember?" she answered softly.
Slowly, but not hesitantly, she drew closer.
Reaching out, she touched his chest. The scales covering his pectorals felt hard, almost like rock, but smooth. In the centre, there was an opening, which glowed. She could feel heat coming from it, but much to her surprise, it wasn't scalding.
"So now you see a little preview of what I really look like. What do you think?"
"How is it that your jacket and your wings are the same colour and in the same position. When you're in your human form, is your jacket actually your wings? How does that even work?"
Dante blinked a few times.
"You know… I've never thought of that. And now that you've mentioned it, I'll have something to keep me up at night."
It was… the same as their interactions always were.
Nothing between them had changed.
Without needing to put it in so many words, this was her way of showing him that her feelings were still the same.
"You mentioned that this is a preview. Does that mean…?"
"Yep. This isn't my true form."
"I see. Will I be seeing that soon too?"
Dante gave it some thought.
Sin Devil Trigger wasn't a power he used unless he really needed to. He had used it briefly against Urizen, and then against Vergil, though both of them had held back greatly. And of course, he'd used it against Lucifer.
With his new control though…
"I don't mind. It's not quite as easy on the eye as this one though."
He definitely didn't know how she might react to it.
A part of him felt a little nervous.
"Why don't you let me decide that?"
Dante took a deep breath, and nodded.
Feeling the power coursing through him, he allowed it to transform him.
A rune circle momentarily appeared under him, part of an automatic process. It symbolized that a True Demon was appearing in the world. It also symbolized the transformation of Human to Devil.
Red light flashed, and Sin Devil Dante stood before Glynda.
She felt her jaw drop slightly.
He gets a LOT bigger, I see, she thought.
It should have been terrifying.
Describing it to another human would have been next to impossible.
Just looking at him, she knew for certain that this was a being who could casually destroy the planet with his bare hands.
The sheer amount of power was almost too much to imagine.
Despite all this, she wasn't afraid.
She approached, noting that he wasn't actually on the ground. His feet were floating a few inches off it.
It should probably be noted, Sin Devil Trigger was immune to the passage of time.
Meaning, Dante could react to anything.
Somehow, that did not include Glynda jumping up.
Holding on to his neck, she leaned up and kissed him.
"Not bad at all."
Red light flashed once more, and Dante dropped to the ground, in human form, and looking absolutely stunned.
"What did you-"
He didn't have words to describe what had just happened.
She smiled.
"Come on in. It's almost time for dinner."
