Angara was at lunch, thinking about the rest of day. When she was done with lunch, she headed back to her office. Garrett was already inside with the next batch of documents. Angara sat down, and took the first one from Garrett. As she was looking over the document, she paused. She looked to Garrett, and got his attention.
"Garrett, you said that the Treasury Advisor wanted to see me about something regarding the treasury." Said Angara.
"Yes, but since your schedule is full, I was only able to get him some time with you tomorrow morning." Said Garrett.
"Well, I would like to see him, now." Said Angara.
"My Lady. There are other matters that need to be taken care of first." Said Garrett.
"I fear that I must repeat myself. I will see him now; I suggest that I not have to repeat myself for a third time." Said Angara.
"No, my lady. I will get him now." Said Garrett.
Garrett then left the office, and Angara picked up another piece of paper. Ten minutes later, Garrett returned with Rilo. Rilo bowed, and Angara picked up the document that pertained to the Treasury.
"Tell me about this report." Said Angara.
"I wanted to inform you that we have a surplus of funds from the taxes collected during the years that Lady Mia was ruling the North." Said Rilo.
"How would we have a surplus?" Angara asked.
"Well, Lady Mia had raised the taxes for the villages. She wanted to use some of the tax money for herself. I was able to protect most of the money. Since taxes will be gathered soon, I was wondering what will happen to most of the villages." Said Rilo.
"What do you mean?" Garrett asked.
"Some of the villages last year, were barely able to pay the taxes. This year will be harder; we didn't have a great harvest, and they probably were not able to sell much of the crops." Said Rilo.
Angara thought about it, and then came up with another question.
"Tell me, was there a reason that Lady Mia came up with for raising the taxes?" Angara asked.
"No, at lease not a good one." Said Rilo.
"Any reason that the taxes can't go back down to what they were?" Angara asked.
"None." Said Rilo.
"Garrett, can you think about any?" Angara asked.
"None that I can think of, my lady." Said Garrett.
"Very well, starting next year; the taxes will go back to what they were before Lady Mia raised them." Said Angara.
Rilo then asked about the surplus tax money. Garrett cut in, and said that it should be given back to the people of the North. It back in forth between the two for a few minutes, till Angara got their attention.
"I think I've got a better solution. Rilo how much in surplus do we have?" Angara asked.
"Enough to cover three years of taxes." Said Rilo.
"Then this is what we will do. Instead of giving it back; we will issue a document to each village. Saying that taxes are paid, and I will have a guard go with should the villagers have questions." Said Angara.
Rilo and Garrett thought about what Angara said, and neither one could think up a reason to say no to the idea. When Angara asked them about their thoughts; they said as much.
"Very well. Rilo, make up the documents. When they are ready, let me know." Said Angara.
"Yes, my lady." Said Rilo.
Rilo then bowed, and then took his leave. Angara then got back to the work that she started earlier. Garrett watched Angara as she was looking over a document, and wondered how they were so lucky to get such a kind Noble.
Hours later, someone started to knock on the door. Angara looked up, and said to come in. The door opened, and Tia came in.
"I wanted to let you know that lunch is ready, my lady." Said Tia.
"Time seemed to fly by. I will be there in a moment. I just have to look over this one document." Said Angara.
"If you want, you could go eat. The document can wait a moment longer." Said Garrett.
"Thank you, I think I will do just that." Said Angara.
