Disclaimer: I don't own any characters from the Trolls franchise, I just own Melody.
A mystic melody.
It had been a full week since the new Princesses dramatic hatching.
Queen Poppy and king Branch had cherished their new daughter (named Melody) ever since she emerged from her egg. as per Troll custom, it was decided that they should introduce her to music after her first week as it was imperative she got exposed to regular, happy pop troll life as soon as possible.
After the baby was born, Branch and Poppy (but mostly Branch) both were so busy since their daughter hatched that they had overflowing schedules and, as a consequence, Poppy barely had any downtime to be with Melody on her own for more than an hour —barely having a proper chance to be a mother— so it was decided that Poppy would care for their daughter while performing the morning song with the other trolls while Branch got some sleep.
Besides, Poppy really wanted to properly introduce her week-old to the rest of her subjects/friends and knew that this would be the best time to do it; the only one who really got to see and spend time with the trolling was Branch and her own father, former king Peppy.
Branch approached his daughter's crib, grabbing on to the twig bars, and leaned in to peer into the tiny face of his new baby.
A gentle smile bloomed across his face while he scooped the small infant troll out from her crib and held her close, his eyes soft and stared at his daughter with a loving grin sculpted upon his face. He held the baby trolling and situated her into his arms while he crooned lovingly at his daughter as she just stared back up at him with wide-eye curiosity but she cooed right back at him.
Melody was barely learning to speak but seemed very infatuated with the idea of music and singing in general; just like most trolls. She would try and parrot the sounds but had trouble thanks to the fact that she couldn't talk quite yet.
The tiny troll had periwinkle blue skin, with the exception of a pink splotch around her left eye, with violet hair. She had large magenta eyes, a round purple nose and glittery chubby cheeks that doubled as freckles. She looked quite a bit like her mother in facial features but had a straight tuft of fuzz for hair that matched the style of her father's. Despite the traits of both her mother and father, Melody was turning out to look a bit more like her mother...at least as far as facial features and the structure of her face went.
The new princess of pop was the perfect blend of Branch and Poppy.
"Good morning, Princess..." Branch crooned softly.
His response was a bunch of adorable coos.
Branch felt his heart swell as he stared into the eyes of his very young daughter. Ever since the baby had been born, he couldn't help but fall in love with her and want nothing more than to protect her from all harm. She, along with Poppy, were his greatest treasures of all time and he refused to let anything bad happen to either of them.
"Ahh...! Aaaah!" The small infant troll turned around in her father's arms and started reaching out towards the window where all the rest of the pop trolls were beginning their morning song.
Branch looked down at Melody in momentary confusion until he proceeded to follow his child's gaze out the window and he noticed that Poppy had began to sing her morning song while the other trolls were following her lead and singing along with her.
He looked down at the tiny trolling and then out the window again.
Melody kept trying to reach her arms outside as though trying to grab at something.
Branch knew what his daughter wanted but felt a bit nervous.
He knew how loud everyone could be and he fretted about the damage it could do to Melody's poor little ears. What if Mel went deaf because of how loud everything was? What if she cried because it hurt? What if it was too early to introduce the baby to music? The king troll intended to guard his little girl with his life...and he was not looking forwards to having to eradicate any boy who comes looking at her. Heck, he was even making preparations to have a bunch of sharp pointy sticks and weapons just encase he would need to ward away guy trolls.
He shook his head.
Now was not the time.
Melody kept bouncing in her father's arms, much to his amusement.
Regardless, Branch tried to keep his daughter calm.
"Shh, shh, shh, shhhh...take it easy." He shushed the excitable infant.
Branch put his daughter down on a counter for a moment and proceeded to meander over to her wardrobe and dress her up in a little pink baby gown that was covered in glitter. The trolling was simply content with sucking her thumb the whole time as she was clothed with the finishing touch being a small clover tiara that barely fit around her head as her big tuft of violet hair bristled up when said clover tiara encircled it.
Nobody knew this but that clover tiara was the very same one that Poppy wore when she was a newborn...
Once baby Melody was dressed, Branch grabbed her and lifted her off the counter whilst he made a few faces to amuse the teeny yet happy little trolling.
The blue king troll of pop held his daughter in his arms as he carried her, balancing her on his hip, and he exited the nursery pod and immediately upon doing so, felt the harsh warmth of the sunlight beam down upon him and the baby. The sun was harsh and he almost had to shield his eyes from the intense rays so he settled for squinting them instead. He hadn't been out much since the baby had hatched so emerging from somewhere nice and safe felt like a foreign feeling to him.
Branch saw Poppy standing on top of an outcropping while leading the rest of the villagers into song.
Upon setting his set his sights on his wife, the king strode towards her.
Melody watched the multitude of dancing and singing trolls, giggling and cooing all the way.
It felt like an eternity had dragged on by as Branch approached Poppy with him holding and gently restraining an excitable infant trolling and he felt a tired smile spread across his face as he practically dragged himself towards the queen/his wife, expertly weaving in between the crowd of dancing and frolicking trolls that danced around.
They seemed oblivious that he was even there.
Eventually, though, he made it.
Poppy noticed her husband and daughter straight away and she smiled warmly down at her baby.
"Oh, hello there!" She beamed as she bent down and picked her daughter up and booped her tiny nose affectionately. "Is my big girl enjoying her very first time outside the nursery pod?"
Branch passed their little Melody over to Poppy and sent her a fatigued smile with eyes heavy with exhaustion. He knew that, since he was the king of the pop trolls and all, he should at least join in on the morning song but he wasn't going to lie; he was so exhausted and wiped out from babysitting that he wanted to keel over right then and there.
Melody squeed and giggled as she snuggled up to her mother.
Poppy was more than happy to wrap her arms around her beloved baby girl as she bounced her up and down in her arms, causing her baby to giggle and coo in response. Poppy had never felt so much love for anyone before, especially since she first laid eyes on her precious baby girl and first held her in her arms. She couldn't wait until her baby could finally sing so they could sing in duets together, heck, when she envisioned it —mother and daughter harmonising together— it made her heart soar higher than it ever had before!
"Are you sure you'll be okay with her, Poppy...?" Branch asked worriedly.
Poppy scoffed dismissively and rolled her eyes.
"Branch, she's my daughter too. I'm pre-tty sure—" she made sure to add an extra syllable when saying "pretty" to make an emphasis on her words, "—that I can be left alone with her for at least a few hours."
Branch sighed as he conceded with his wife, he trusted Poppy with their daughter (of course) but he couldn't help but let that same old paranoia cling to him and whisper doubts in his mind. They leeched off his fears but he tried his hardest to ignore them and just get some rest to recuperate and regain the sleep he lost the passed week.
He rubbed his eyes with exhaustion as he slunk off to his underground survival bunker get some well-deserved rest.
The queen of the pop trolls cradled her precious bundle.
"C'mon, sweetie! Let mama show you what music is all about!"
Poppy practically bounced over to Biggie and Mr Dinkles, Guy Diamond, Tiny Diamond, DJ Suki, Legsly, Smidge, Satin and Chenille and Fuzzbert whom all smiled gleefully at the queen and the newborn princess; Melody seemed overjoyed and to relish the attention she was receiving while the strange trolls all appeared to love her as they all gifted her with new toys and watched as Poppy sang softly and (surprisingly) quietly to her daughter.
She decided to explain (through song) that there are all sorts of trolls whether they be Funk trolls, Country trolls, Classical Trolls, Hip hop trolls, Pop trolls and that they were practically all part of the same family.
"We are, we are
Not your ordinary fami-mily—"
She was cut off by Guy Diamond.
"—But we can all agree that
We are, we are..."
Everyone sang this part.
"Close as close can be..."
The Snack Pack harmonised (quietly) with Poppy as they swayed in time with the song she sang, rocking their hips from side-to-side. They were very excited to be apart of their new little princesses life and to help her understand music; they loved Poppy, they loved Branch and now they were going to extend that love to baby Melody.
Biggie bent down and held Mr. Dinkles out towards her.
The little yellow worm "mewed" at the periwinkle blue baby pop troll, causing her to giggle softly.
As Poppy's closest friends they wanted to help and they each vowed to help raise Melody (just like everybody else in the village) and help her grow into the princess that would be as kind and as loving as her mother grandfather and her father before her.
Poppy was the main troll who sang as she smiled delightedly at the tiny troll hatchling being cradled in her arms. Her expression was full of love and adoration for the baby she was holding —she'd held plenty of baby trolls before...but this baby was hers and she vowed to treasure her and make sure she never left her side.
"So it don't matter what it looks like
We look perfect to me
We got every kind of love
I feel so lucky indeed...!"
Poppy smirked warmly at the Snack pack as they (and the rest of troll village) sang in perfect harmony.
"They can keep on talking
It don't matter to me cause
We are, we are family..."
Upon finishing the short version of the song, Poppy put her baby down on the ground in front of her and turned to address the rest of her subjects with an expression full of pride and love.
"Everyone!"
Upon hearing their queen address them, the pop trolls quietened down and listened to what she had to say.
Poppy let out a humbled sigh as she gripped at her own chest, where her heart was, and signalled to them all that what she was about to say was coming straight from the very depths of her heart. Her eyes were filled with genuine sincerity and her tone had smoothed from its regular happy-go-lucky tone and morphed into one of serious gentleness.
"I have loved every single moment of being your queen and I have no words to express how happy being with all of you makes me, how celebrating our home, hosting lots of parties, helping all of you with whatever problems you may have...now, with my family, I hope that you can all be yourselves and I promise that I will never let any of you down."
Poppy raised her fist high into the air and wore the most determined scowl anybody's ever seen on her face. Her brows were tightly knitted together and her purple eyes were ablaze as she yelled as loud as she could.
"NO TROLL LEFT BEHIIIIIIND!"
The other trolls joined in.
"NO TROLL LEFT BEHIIIIIND!"
Everyone in the entire pop village fell silent when Melody started to utter sounds that sounded...kind of like she was trying to sing.
In her stunned shock, Poppy withdrew her precious cow bell from within her hair and started to softly pound it with the beater that came with it and played along to the almost incoherent sounds of the newborn trolling.
The queen didn't know what possessed her to do such a thing but she didn't really care to dwell on it.
She beamed in shock as she tried to contemplate on what she had just heard from her little one. Her brain had stalled as she contemplated on this; her baby of a week old just sounded like she was trying to sing...not only that but the melodic sounds the baby pop troll were the most beautiful sounds she had ever heard in her entire life.
The queen's eyes swelled with tears and her heart grew five sizes as she felt this immense pride hit her hard like a smack to the face. She couldn't believe it. Melody had tried to sing! She couldn't remember the last time she felt so proud.
Actually, if she didn't witness it with her own eyes and ears she wouldn't have believed it.
She felt huge tears begin to stream down her cheeks as she quickly swooped up the little troll, cuddling her in her arms, and proceeded to pepper her pudgy little face with little butterfly kisses. She couldn't even help but utter each and every single sentence that popped into her mind as she planted kiss after kiss on her baby girl's face.
"Holy glitter biscuits! Oh my sweet baby girl! You did it! You sang! I am so proud! Mama loves you so much, sweetheart!"
Baby Melody giggled as she snuggled into her mother's arms.
Poppy smiled so wide that she was sure it would have smashed her face. She pulled Melody close to her face and rubbed her own nose with the tiny round nose of her newborn trolling, baby talking all the while as she listened to what she thought was the sweetest sound in the entire universe. Her heart was huge with pride and love and she couldn't help but feel so happy.
"Ooooh, just wait until your daddy hears about this!"
She froze as realisation hit her hard.
She had to tell Branch!
"BRANCH, CHECK OUT WHAT MELODY DID...!"
Then she ran off to find Branch, to let him know the fantastic news, and left everyone else in the village standing around awkwardly as they wondered what to do now. Regardless they couldn't help but all feel that things were most definitely going to change in the village with this new baby trolling around.
Life with Princess Melody was most definitely going to be interesting from now on...
A/N: Here's the final part of the prologue, everyone.
Now we get to the main part of the fic but what shall happen?
Btw, the song for this chapter was "We are family" by Keke Palmer from Ice age 4.
I hope you are enjoying the story so far.
