A/N The timelines of Buffy and Stargate don't match up precisely, so I'm putting Stargate's timeline as being after the NID was discovered stealing from Earth's off world allies, which was the episode Shades of Grey, which aired in February of 2000. Also, although the Goa'uld made use of ring transporters, they didn't invent them. The Ancients did. This was also noted in the Avalon episode. It's how SG 1 accessed the chamber under Glastonbury Tor.

There was one side effect of the destruction of the Mayor's protections that hadn't occured to the group, that those protections kept anyone outside of Sunnydale from noticing the weird things that happened in Sunnydale. That was about to begin changing.

Mayor Samantha Carter was enjoying a leisurely breakfast and reading her morning paper. She didn't often get to indulge herself like this, but she didn't have to report to the base for another hour so she was taking the time to enjoy a decent breakfast rather then a bagel on the run. That's when she spotted an unusual news report and decided maybe going in sooner was going to happen after all.

Meanwhile, back in Sunnydale, Alexander, Corda and Buffy's Junior year ended and Alexander and Corda loaded their long range scanner into Cordelia's car and left on a road trip, promising to stay in touch. They hoped to find evidence of the rifts their people had sealed. After all, they knew they had sealed them, they just didn't know how they'd sealed them. It had been more then a million years prior to their own births after all. By then it was just an interesting historical side note.

Major Carter arrived at Cheyenne Mountain and requested a meeting with General Hammond, who after hearing what she had to say, called SG 1 to the conference room.

"We may have a problem." He said. "How much of a problem, I'm unsure of. It may not be anything we can do anything about, but Major Carter brought a concern to my attention." He nodded at the Major, who began to brief the rest of her team.

"There was a report in the newspaper this morning about a possible chemical attack on the Mayor of a small city in California, Sunnydale. The description of the body is concerning. The report says it was a blackened, withered husk. Witnesses claim, he was alone in his office when he suddenly began screaming. It was described as a long, drawn out scream. Investigators are speculating that the attack was chemical in nature, but they just don't know, because they decided to take the precautions of instigating hazmat procedures, to avoid potential contamination. They approached in hazmat suits and placed the remains in a body bag and burned everything in an industrial furnace. It's also interesting to note that this Mayor may have been a devil worshiper. He apparently had alot of really nasty things in a hidden cabinet in his office. But the attack is the part I'm concerned with."

"Because he was alone when this attack supposedly took place and because it was by unknown means?" Dr. Daniel Jackson clarified.

"Yes. What if we missed some NID people in the recent arrest as well as some unknown technology? The officials took appropriate actions, they didn't want to risk further deaths, but that also means, there's no samples, nothing to be studied."

"Indeed, it is concerning." Teal'C said.

"It's also probably likely. The NID is like cockroaches." Colonel O'Neill noted. "We went over both the base they were using off world and the one here on Earth, but they could have had others and just aren't talking."

"For now, all we can do is keep an eye out for other possible signs that they have technology they shouldn't and are attempting to use it." General Hammond said.

"Why this man though?" Dr. Jackson asked. "Was it just random or an accident or was he targeted? What do we know about him?"

"Besides the fact that he was the Mayor, the news report lists only his name, Richard Wilkins the Third." Major Carter said.

"It's a legitimate question." General Hammond said. "Major, see what you can find out about this man."

"Yes, sir."

"Dismissed."

Unfortunately, she couldn't find out much.

"His online presence is nil, sir. He did absolutely nothing online. He may have been a technophobe. And Sunnydale doesn't have birth and death announcements online either. So I'm not sure of his age or even his education. Nor are past newspapers available online. There's just nothing online to find."

"Unfortunate. Thanks for checking, Major. We'll keep an eye out. Return to your duties."

"Yes, sir."

Major Carter may not have found anything of interest but Alexander and Corda did. Not far outside of Sunnydale either. Their long range scanner showed a massive open area nearly half a mile underground. Their more sophisticated Alteran scanner showed Alteran tech. They parked near the edge of the area and approached cautiously.

"My scanner is showing a ring transporter." Alexander said. "Our people built something here."

"I think we should investigate." Corda said. "There may be computers down there, with the information we need in them."

"I agree. The ring transporters should still be working." They approached the transporter and the rings rose up in a bright flash of light and then they were in the underground area. Lights began to come on automatically, responding to the genetic key within them. There before them, was an awe inspiring sight. An Alteran ship, moored in a docking bay. Their people had left a ship behind when they abandoned Terra a million years ago.
