"Nathan, don't worry".
"Who's worrying Chuck, not me".
"Nathan, God has it in control".
"I'm not doubting that it's just...what of she never remembers, I mean, she loved Carson with every fiber of her being. Now she doesn't even remember him".
"Nathan, that hasn't changed. The only difference is she doesn't remember. That love is still inside of her. It will come back".
"And what if it doesn't"?
"Then God has given her a second chance at life over the past four years".
"Heh, lucky girl".
Dr. Sean Thornton was sitting outside with Faith, waiting for her ride back home, laughing at a story Sean was telling her about his youth in his hometown of Castlemaine, Ireland. Nathan had never seen her so happy. Sean was in the middle of finishing his story when Nathan and Charles pulled up.
"So, because we were dead set on not getting in trouble we ate that pie we made".
"You ate it", Faith asked, disbelief filling her laughter.
"Oh, every bit of it, and that was more than enough punishment for our disobedience, and we never did it again, that I can assure you".
Nathan did nothing but stare as Faith She...Carter; it was so weird to think that she didn't know she was married. He could do nothing but stare as she waved at him .
"Hello Captain Grant", she said, happy as a lark.
"Hello Nurse Carter. I see that your fellow healers have seen fit to let you go home".
"Id go out in the field if they'd let me. But it doesn't look like I'll ever see any action", she said. She was gloomy at the thought of never seeing action, but it wasn't the deep sadness that Nathan had known since they got back.
"The Lord works mysteriously CailĂn", Sean said, "trust His will".
"Woah, did I miss something", Nathan said, looking at Charles who was just as equally perplexed, "who is Colleen"?
"My apologies Captain", Sean said, "It's just an old Irish word, it means girl or woman, depending on the context".
"uh huh", was all Nathan could say. He was absolutely thrown for a loop.
"Captain Grant, could I go over a few particulars with you"?
"Sure Doc", Nathan said, following Sean to a spot away from Faith.
"Captain Grant, Faith is aware that something traumatic happened to her, but she doesn't know why. I've made some progress with her, she knows what year she is in, but for her, it may as well be 2019. You and Mr. Kensington must be gentle with her mind, it's very fragile right now, whatever you do, you must NOT overload her with information. If she asks questions about what happened, be as gentle as you can. But even if dhe knows the information, that does not guarantee that she will remember her life over the past four years".
Nathan nodded, thanked Sean for his work, and walked back over to Faith
"You ready", he asked her.
"Absolutely, Captain".
"Alright. Anyplace you'd recommend her ride, Doc"?
"It doesn't matter, just make sure you take it slow. And Faith, I'll see you in one week for your follow up".
"Okay Sean, thanks again", she said, blushing at his handsome smile.
Faith felt incredibly awkward as she stepped into the cold house that was supposed to be her home. Everything felt so impersonal. She immediately turned about face and made her way back to Nathan's car and sat down in the passenger seat.
"Everything alright Faith", he asked, standing outside her door.
"I don't know who lives in that tomb, but it's not me", she said, fighting back tears.
"Faith, I don't know what you're feeling, but this house is where you live".
"Used to. I'm not going back. That house is so permiated with grief and sorrow that I can't spend one night in there. And if It's true I do have amnesia then I don't want to remember being that woman".
"I don't blame you. She was so miserable and lonely. I should have done more for her, for you, but I didn't. But now we both have a second chance Faith. You have an opportunity to make new memories, and this time I'm going to be here for you".
Faith finally let her tears flow.
"Please, don't make me go back in there".
"I won't. I've got a friend, she's a teacher. I'll see if she wouldn't mind putting you up for a night or two until we can get you another house".
Faith smiled and hugged her Captain.
"Thank you Nathan".
