Logan inquires, "What is the topic of your conversation?"

Kendall affirms, "It is indeed true."

Carlos adds, "Yes, they are correct."

James proceeds to explain, "Chelsea Lancaster, despite being an excellent cheerleader, struggles academically. As a result, she seeks out the most accomplished male students in our school and persuades them to tutor her in subjects she finds challenging. She gains their trust and friendship, only to end up dating them for a brief period of time before moving on to a new target, much like Taylor Swift."

Logan expresses disbelief, "What? That cannot be true. She has always been kind to me. I believe I would have noticed by now if she were some sort of secret manipulator."

James insists, "It is the truth."

Logan remains skeptical, stating, "I do not believe any of you. You need to provide more evidence. Furthermore, I simply do not view her in that manner."

"We're not being dishonest," James asserts.

"My mother is present. I won't speak ill of the first girl at this school who has ever shown kindness to me," Logan states before entering the vehicle.

During hockey practice, Logan encounters difficulties with a new technique he has been practicing and repeatedly falls hard on the ice. After enduring 30 minutes of this struggle, he becomes extremely sore and yearns to return home. Upon entering his room, he collapses onto his bed and wraps himself snugly in his heated blanket.

Wednesday is a day that fills him with apprehension, as it entails participating in dodgeball during gym class, a sport that he is absolutely terrified of. Filled with pure fear, he enters the locker room and proceeds to change into his gym clothes. Joining the others, he takes a seat on the bench, anxiously awaiting the commencement of the game.

"Logan, you're trembling like a leaf. Your arm is visibly vibrating. You must try to relax," Kendall advises.

"I can't. You know how much I despise dodgeball. I'm utterly dreadful at it. I'm like a walking target. It's as if there's a sign floating above me that reads 'Hit Me!'" Logan laments.

Kendall remarks, "It's merely a foolish game."

"To you, it's enjoyable. To me, it's a battle. I'm defeated. I'm completely defeated," Logan laments, his hands covering his face.

Once everyone is divided into their respective teams, the gym teacher blows the whistle, signaling the start of the game.

"You! I'm coming after you, nerd!" Eric shouts from across the gym.

Logan's eyes widen, and he screams as he runs away to avoid getting hit. He eventually stops to catch his breath, only to hear a girl screaming. He turns and sees Eric hurling multiple balls at Chelsea.

"Alright, that's enough! I'm done! Stop hitting me!" Chelsea exclaims.

Eric simply laughs and continues his assault on her.

"Hey Eric, she said stop!" Logan interjects, throwing a ball at him. "Learn some self-control!"

He then turns to Chelsea and asks, "Are you alright?" with genuine concern.

"Yeah, thanks. That was amazing," Chelsea replies.

"Hey! He broke the rules! He hit me really hard!" Eric complains.

"You were doing the same thing to Chelsea," Logan retorts.

Eric says, "I understand now. You're still upset about what happened in art class on Monday. She helped you out, and now it's your chance to be the hero for her. It's really sad how much of a loser you are."

Logan responds, "I'm the loser? You were the one finding joy in the suffering and distress of a female classmate, even after she pleaded for it to stop. What's truly pathetic is your immaturity."

In an attempt to attack Logan, Eric is halted by the gym coach, who instructs him to go straight to the detention room.

Class resumes. Unfortunately for Logan and Chelsea, the school library is closed for maintenance, so they are unable to have their tutoring session there during study hall. In light of this, Logan suggests having their session outside of the school at StarBucks. Although Logan doesn't go there for the coffee, he enjoys the hot chocolate provided for customers, especially since he doesn't tolerate cold weather very well. After school, Logan and Chelsea find a quiet booth away from the busy atmosphere of the building. Unbeknownst to them, Carlos, James, and Kendall have followed them to gather evidence that Chelsea is deceiving Logan.

"I'll be right back. I'm going to the bathroom," Logan says, excusing himself from the booth.

James, Kendall, and Carlos move to a closer booth in order to better observe and overhear Chelsea's phone conversation.

"He has no idea what I'm really making him do. This is way too easy. I know, right? He's so gullible. If I keep this up, I'll be considered the smartest kid in school. I have to go. He's coming back," Chelsea says, ending her phone call and quickly placing the phone down.

"Hey, were you on an important phone call? Did I interrupt something?" Logan asks upon returning to the booth.

"No, it's fine. You didn't do anything wrong," Chelsea reassures him.

"Okay," Logan responds, taking his seat once again.

Thursday afternoon at Kendall's residence.

"Logan, I am conveying to you precisely what we heard. Chelsea is manipulating you. Why won't you simply acknowledge that?" James asserts.

"Because it is not true. You guys effortlessly attract girls all the time. They engage in conversation with you and desire to be in your presence. However, whenever I even utter the word 'Hello,' they scatter away as swiftly as cockroaches fleeing from bug spray. I notice girls looking at me as if I am contaminated or something, and that truly affects my self-esteem," Logan explains.

"We are only informing you of this because we are trying to safeguard you," Kendall states.

"Please trust us, my friend," Carlos pleads.

"For all of your accusations to hold any truth, she must confess it. And here's a news flash: She does not lie. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go to the park to assist Chelsea with more tutoring. I want to demonstrate to her how nature can aid in relaxation and focus, because you three are causing me immense stress!" Logan expresses his frustration as he stands up and departs.

"Now what? He refuses to listen to us," James laments.

"We will simply prove to him that we are speaking the truth," Kendall proposes.

"How?" Carlos inquires.

"I have an idea. Listen attentively," Kendall says and proceeds to discuss the plan.

"It's always so beautiful here when it snows, don't you think?" Chelsea remarks.

"Not really. I don't enjoy the cold. It makes my face turn as red as a tomato, and it worries my mom a lot," Logan replies.

"You took a risk by coming here today. What's the problem?" Chelsea asks.

"You're my friend, and I feel like it's the right thing to do," Logan explains.

"That's really sweet, but you play hockey, and that's a cold sport," Chelsea points out.

"It wasn't my first choice of being an athlete, but it has its perks. I have fun with my friends, and moving on the ice keeps me warm," Logan says.

"That's good," Chelsea acknowledges.

"I find the nature trail very calming, with all the birds chirping and the creek by the woods. It's so peaceful, so that's where we'll study," Logan suggests.

"Great idea," Chelsea agrees.

After an hour, they finish studying.

Kendall, Carlos, and James notice Chelsea talking on the phone and overhear her conversation.

"It's going really well. My grades have improved so much, and he has no idea what I have planned. Yeah, it's going to be good," Chelsea says.

"Now is our chance to expose her!" James exclaims.

James starts running towards Chelsea.

"Wait, James! Stick to the plan. Come back here," Kendall calls out.

Carlos also takes off.

"Why are you following him, Carlos?! No! Come back here!" Kendall sighs and follows them.

Chelsea hangs up the phone and sees them approaching her. She becomes confused when she realizes they're frowning and not there to greet her happily.

"What are you up to?!" James asks angrily.

"Huh?" Chelsea replies, taken aback by his upset tone.

"You're hiding something, aren't you?!" Carlos continues the interrogation.

"What are you talking about?" Chelsea asks, even more confused because she usually sees Carlos always smiling.

"Just tell us the truth!" Kendall yells.

"The truth about what?" Chelsea says, flabbergasted that all three of them are mad at her.

"Hey, what's going on?" Logan asks, walking up to them.

"They approached me with a barrage of questions that I couldn't even begin to answer. It seems like they suspect that I have some sort of ill intentions towards you. I honestly have no idea what they're talking about," Chelsea explains.

Logan's protective instincts kick in as he demands, "What exactly are you guys doing to her?"

James jumps in, stating, "We overheard her having a suspicious phone conversation where she mentioned her improved grades and hinted at having plans for you."

Logan interjects, frustration evident in her voice, "Just so you know, that 'suspicious' phone call was from her own mother! She was simply calling to pick her up because our tutoring session was over, and I'm freezing out here! You can't just come here and accuse her, interrogate her without any reason! How did you even know we were here? Did you follow us? Were you spying on us? This is unbelievable! You guys have completely lost control! Carlos, I expected better from them, but you, I trusted you the most, and you let me down. All three of you have lost my trust and my friendship," he sighs.

Logan doesn't hold back as he continues to berate them, "You've not only lost Chelsea's trust, but mine as well. I can't believe you would treat her like this."

"B-b-but Logie we were just-" Carlos begins to say, but is abruptly interrupted.

"No, I don't want to hear it. Just stop!" Logan shouts.

A car honks its horn.

"That's my mom. See you tomorrow, Logan. Don't worry about my surprise for you, it's not ruined. I can still give it to you," Chelsea assures.

"That's great," Logan responds.

He lets out a frustrated sigh, feeling extremely irritated and stressed out. His dad arrives to pick him up and takes him home.

"Goodness, we really messed up this time," Carlos says sadly. "Maybe Chelsea has truly changed and the surprise for Logan is actually good and harmless."

"He's still our brother. He just needs a few days to cool off," Kendall suggests.

"Do you think he'll forgive us? He was really angry," James wonders.

"Come on, let's just go to my house," Kendall sighs.

They depart.

In the depths of Logan's domain, he ascends the winding stairs to his sanctuary. With a touch of ceremony, he seals himself within the walls of his room, shutting out the world beyond. Nestling upon his bed, he cradles a model of metal and circuitry, a creation of his own hands. Carefully crafted from a kit bestowed upon him by his wise grandfather to celebrate his triumphant escape from the clutches of elementary education. This miniature automaton serves as his refuge in times of turmoil, a calming balm for his troubled soul. As the hours melt away like a forgotten dream, he finally puts aside his mechanical companion and turns his attention to books far beyond the realm of his tender age. For within the pages of wisdom, he discovers new realms of language, expanding his mind with each word acquired.

His mother summons him downstairs for dinner, but he complies reluctantly. Despite his hunger, he feels too despondent to be anywhere other than his room. As he takes his place at the kitchen table, both of his parents become concerned about his demeanor.

"Are you alright, son?" Mr. Mitchell inquires.

"Not really, sir. I'm upset with my friends. Well, now they're former friends," Logan replies.

"Why? What happened?" Mr. Mitchell probes.

"I've been tutoring this cheerleader named Chelsea for biology class. She's popular and beautiful. James, Kendall, and Carlos told me that she's notorious at our school for targeting the smartest male students to tutor in subjects she struggles with, only to date them briefly and then break up with them. But I haven't seen any evidence of that behavior from her. So far, she's been very kind to me. She even saved me from a bully named Eric. She's not mean at all. This afternoon, James, Kendall, and Carlos crossed a line when they bombarded her with questions about her supposed 'evil plan' to harm me for some unknown reason. I've had enough of their baseless accusations. I need a break from them," Logan explains, still frustrated by their actions.

"Even Carlos, who is usually so sweet, was unkind to her?" Mrs. Mitchell asks.

"Yes, ma'am. That surprised me as well. He's usually so kind and cheerful," Logan says.

"It appears that your buddies had your best interests at heart," Mr. Mitchell remarks with a touch of intrigue.

"Even though that may be true, I can't help but feel resentful towards them. They obviously believe that I am not worthy of befriending a cheerleader or any other popular, stunning girl at our school. I am simply an outcast, destined to remain on the outskirts," Logan laments.

"You are an exceptional young person," Mr. Mitchell counters, injecting a sense of awe into his words.

"You will always be my endearing little LogieBear," Mrs. Mitchell chimes in, knowingly going against Logan's expressed desire to abandon the nickname.

Logan forces a polite smile, although he inwardly grimaces at the moniker that has been imposed on him time and time again.

"Mom, that nickname just isn't cool," Logan interjects, remaining respectful because he knows it brings his mother joy.

"I apologize, sweetheart. It holds such a special place in my heart," Mrs. Mitchell confesses, her voice tinged with nostalgia.

Logan expresses his gratitude to his mom despite feeling embarrassed about the situation. After finishing his meal, he heads back to his room. On Friday morning, he wakes up and makes his way to the bus stop alone. When James, Carlos, and Kendall spot him, they try to apologize for their previous behavior. However, Logan chooses not to engage with them and simply shivers in the cold until the bus arrives. Upon reaching school and going to their lockers, Eric angrily approaches Logan, ready to harm him.

Fortunately, Chelsea intervenes and puts a stop to it. "That's enough!" she exclaims. "Just because you're deeply insecure and feel the need to assert your superiority over others to feel important, it doesn't give you the right to act out like this! Seek help from the guidance counselor. You need serious assistance!" Chelsea continues to reprimand him.

Eric's anger was palpable as he shouted, "You're both going to face my wrath!" Chelsea, however, stood her ground and defiantly yelled back, "You don't scare me!"

The confrontation caught the attention of Principal Fitzpatrick, who emerged from his office to intervene. Firmly addressing Eric, he reprimanded him, "That's enough! You're in trouble, Eric. Report to my office

immediately."

Reluctantly, Eric obeyed, seething with anger.

Later that afternoon, Logan entered the chess club room and settled down at a table, engrossed in setting up the chessboard. Unaware of Chelsea's presence, he was taken aback when she quietly approached and took a seat across from him.

Breaking the silence, Chelsea greeted him with a simple "Hi Logan." Surprised, Logan responded, "Hi Chelsea. I didn't know you were part of the chess club. It's not common to see many girls as members."

Chelsea, unbothered by his comment, asked, "Does that bother you?"

Logan, eager to express his inclusive mindset, replied, "Greatly. I believe chess is for everyone."

Chelsea acknowledged his response with a simple "Good to know."

As Logan and Chelsea began their game, a sense of tranquility filled the room. However, their peaceful moment was abruptly shattered when Eric stormed into the room. Without warning, he approached Logan and Chelsea's table, violently flipping it over, causing the chess pieces to scatter across the floor.

Shocked and angered by Eric's actions, Chelsea exclaimed, "What the heck, Eric!"

Logan, trying to make sense of the situation, asked, "Why did you do that?"

Eric, consumed by his frustration, bellowed, "You two have caused me so much trouble this week! It's time to teach you a lesson you'll never forget!"

"Eric, blaming others for your problems won't solve anything. It's time to take responsibility for your actions." Logan says.

"I don't need your advice!" Eric retorts.

"I wasn't offering advice, just stating the truth." Logan says calmly.

"Why do you even bother hanging out with Chelsea?" Eric asks.

"Because I see potential in her, even if you don't see it in yourself." Logan replies.

"You're just trying to make yourself feel better by putting me down." Eric accuses.

"I don't need to put anyone down to feel good about myself. That's something you should try to learn." Logan says.

"You're such a know-it-all!" Eric says.

"I don't know everything, but I do know that blaming others won't solve your problems." Logan says firmly.

"You're not my parent, you can't tell me what to do!" Eric says.

"I may not be your parent, but I am trying to be your friend. And as your friend, I want to see you succeed." Logan says.

"With unwavering determination, I shall vanquish you!" Eric bellows, his voice echoing through the room.

Logan remains unfazed by Eric's menacing words, replying calmly, "My, my, your perseverance is truly remarkable."

Suddenly, the door bursts open, revealing the club's teacher and language arts maestro, Miss Barnes. She rushes in, alerted by the commotion caused by another member of the club.

"Cease this conflict immediately, Eric! It is time for you to retreat and return to the sanctuary of your home! Your parents are already on their way!" Miss Barnes admonishes. "Before you depart, however, do take a moment to rectify the havoc you wreaked upon Logan and Chelsea's meticulously set chessboard."

"Listen up, you repulsive, oversized wench! Your opinions don't hold any weight when the bells of academia cease to ring," Eric boldly retorts.

"You never lend her an ear when education reigns supreme," Logan interjects, pointing out the hypocrisy.

"Silence!" Eric bellows, only to be jolted by an authoritative voice reverberating through the classroom doorway - his father.

"What in the world do you think you're doing? Cease this reprehensible conduct immediately!" Eric's father admonishes sternly. "There is absolutely no justification for this behavior! Pick up that chessboard this instant, and extend sincere apologies to anyone you've inflicted trouble upon!"

The fury in his voice crackles as he continues, leaving no room for doubt.

The final unveiling of Eric's vulnerability has arrived, as he remains obedient to his father's every command without question. Instantly recognizing this revelation, Logan witnesses Eric placing all the burdens back onto Chelsea and himself.

"I wholeheartedly apologize for the chaos I've created," Eric utters before departing in the company of his father.

"Goodness, that was an incredibly riveting ordeal," Chelsea remarks, her voice still resonating with the intensity of the moment.

"Absolutely, without a doubt," Logan concurs, fully acknowledging the magnitude of the situation.
