"My, isn't he just the cutest thing?" cooed Umbra, who soon began nuzzling Bright on the cheek. "Why didn't you tell us sooner you had a son, sister?"

"Well, I would," Penumbra said, "but a certain someone was not given a choice when he agreed to a deal with the Alpha over a year ago."

"I am sorry, alright?" groaned Flashwing. "I know this was hard on us all, but in the end it turned out to be for the best."

"That, I can only say I agree," sighed Penumbra.

"Luna, why won't you join us?" asked Antumbra to her, who smiled and walked over to them. "You sure found yourself a promising son, Flashwing. Even if he is a human."

"Yes," said Flashwing. "Bright did get himself into a bit of trouble, though."

"Dad, you serious?" Bright groaned, rolling his eys. "Me know me did wrong."

"I know, son," his father chuckled. "However, I think it was good to address the trouble to your aunts."

"What did he get through?" wondered Umbra.

"He tried to stop a fight between the Alpha and Blackhorn, a troublemaker Monstrous Nightmare," explained Flashwing.

"Oh dear," gasped Umbra. "Did you get hurt?"

Bright shook his head. "No, auntie. Me not get hurt."

Umbra let out a relieved breath. "That's a relief. We wouldn't want our nephew to hurt himself for stopping a fight between the Alpha of the colony, would we?"

Bright grumbled.

"That reminds me," realized Flashwing. "Son, I believe that Aquawing would like to talk with you."

"Really?" Bright tilted his head, confused. "Why?"

"She will tell you," was all Flashwing told him before nudging him outside. "We will have our grown-up talk, in case you would like to know."

"Oh." Bright's shoulders slumped downward, then he frowned.

Flashwing smiled, nuzzling him. "Don't worry. You can return by the time the high noon arrives."

Bright nodded, hugging his paw for a moment, before leaving them.

"May we know why you sent him off?" asked Umbra.

"There has to be a reason for it, I take it?" added Antumbra.

"Yes, there is," started Flashwing. He was looking at Luna with a silent, knowing look on his expression. She seemed to realize what he wanted, and she left to join her brother. "Have you heard the story of the Raid on Fría Island?"

Umbra and Antumbra glanced at each other, then said simultaneously: "We do."

"I found him there," continued Flashwing. "I found him alone in a human nest. However, he wasn't truly alone."

"Dear, why are you…?" began Penumbra, only to be silenced by Flashwing's raised paw.

"They need to hear this," he whispered to her. Flashwing looked at the curious pair. "There was a female human inside the nest. At first, I thought she would attack me, but she was only trying to defend someone. But I wasn't sure who until I accidentally knocked the small nest Bright was in with my tail."

Umbra blinked. "Are you letting us in on why he is here?" she asked in realization.

"Yes," sighed Flashwing. "You need to know the reason. After I knocked the nest over, the female human attacked me. I acted in panic, killing her. I didn't know her, obviously, but somehow — for some reason — I was beginning to realize in small bits of pieces everyday to who it could have been."

"Bright's…" Umbra gasped.

"Mother…?" finished Penumbra, who seemed to have a shocked look in her eyes.

"Indeed," continued Flashwing. "I killed his human mother. It was only in self-defence, so don't worry. I never meant to harm her in the first place. I was only looking for food when I stumbled upon the nest." A short pause, he exhaled a breath. "Once I had killed Bright's mother, there was a loud noise outside the nest. A large male human, whom I assumed would have been his human father, attacked me in anger for the death of the mother. I reacted, of course, and killed him in response to his rage — and finally, I left the island with Bright in my paw, never looking back to the island."

He gasped for air. "And that, my dears, was how I found Bright."

Bright was walking on all four, with Luna by his side. He was frowning. Why Dad send me off to Aquawing? I will want to stay and enjoy company with aunties, he thought.

"Baby brother, is there something the matter?" asked Luna, looking at him with a worried expression. "You look sad."

"Me no sad, sister," he said. "Me thinking."

"Well, what are you thinking about?"

Bright rubbed his chin. "About Dad, and why he want me go to Aquawing."

"Ah, that," realized Luna. "Well, you know Daddy. He wants us to enjoy our time with the other dragons, even if most of it doesn't make sense as to why we need to, but we do it anyway."

"That the thing," said Bright. "Me not understand why we do it."

"It's because we need to spend our youth and enjoy it," she explained. "Once we grow up — and we eventually will — we might not remember most of our youth."

"But me not like not to forget this," mumbled Bright, lowering his head.

Luna blinked, seemingly realizing something she had spoken. "Oh, I'm sorry, baby brother. I didn't mean to let you down."

"Me know," sighed Bright. "Me understand you not doing it like that."

Luna smiled, patting him on the back.

Once they looked ahead, Bright could see that they had arrived at Aquawing's nest. It was a very beautiful nest with a couple of crystal lighting around the grassy nest. There were two hatchlings who were sleeping between Aquawing's tail, which was curled around them.

She finally noticed them. "Oh, hello, you two." She gave them an acknowledged nod. "Why are you here, little ones?"

"Daddy told us that we should go see you for a lesson," started Luna.

"Lesson?" Aquawing cocked her head. "There are no need for any more lessons for today. Did he really say that you needed to be here for that reason?"

"Yeah, he did," said Bright with a nod.

Aquawing sighed. "He probably didn't want you to hear something important," she mumbled, mostly to herself.

Bright and Luna tilted their heads.

"It's nothing you should worry about, children," assured Aquawing. "I shall go talk with him about it. In the meantime, would the two of you like to play with my hatchlings? They would like to play with someone, you see."

Both Bright and Luna nodded energetically, and she chuckled at the eagerness.

"Very well," she spoke. She leaned to her two hatchlings — the first was a blue and green male Deadly Nadder with some darker spots on his head, and the other hatchling was a pure dark blue female with four horns curving upward on her head — and she nudged them gently. "Wake up, you two. We have some guests."

The two hatchlings muttered something, Bright could not understand, and they opened their eyes and yawned.

"Mother, who are the guests?" asked the female hatchling.

"It's Bright and Luna, dear," said Aquawing. "Would you like to play with them?" She looked at Bright and Luna. "I'm certain they'd enjoy it."

"Sure," Bright nodded.

"We can do that," added Luna.

"Perfect," chirped Aquawing. "Then I will go and speak with your father. Have fun, children!" She walked away from the nest.

"Wow," said Umbra breathless. "That sounds…rough."

"Indeed," said Flashwing with a nod. "In any case, we are happy to have Bright with us. He changed a lot of us, even the Alpha."

"I've heard the Alpha used to be distrusting toward him, is that true?" asked Antumbra.

"That it is." Flashwing nodded. "He did not like the very idea I would have a human hatchling as my son."

"But the two of you are past that now, aren't you?" asked a voice.

Flashwing blinked, looking toward the entrance of the nest and noticed Aquawing. "Oh, Aquawing. I…did not see you there. How is Bright and Luna doing?"

"Your children are doing fine," said Aquawing. "However, it's not about that I have come. I would like to speak with you. Privately, if you will."

"Of course, Aquawing," he spoke. He walked out of the nest, walking side by side with Aquawing as they stoppped by a small crystal. "What is it you'd like to talk about?" he asked.

"It's about Bright," started Aquawing. "He —"

"Why, has he done something wrong?"

"If you would let me speak," pouted Aquawing at the interruption. "What I mean is that he hasn't done something wrong, but may I ask why you chose to let him go over to me for a lesson, when there are no more lessons to be taught today?"

Flashwing blinked. "I didn't know he would have the time off after the lesson with Bluetail," he spoke, honesty in his voice.

"Well, in case you would know, he is young and need more time off from the various lessons we are going to be teaching him," continued Aquawing. "From what I've heard, when hatchlings are taught, they also need to have a break in between the lectures." She looked deeply at him with her side glance. "Have you not learned anything like that with Luna?"

Flashwing put a claw on his chin. "Oh. Yes, I have. I…kind of forgot," he laughed nervously. "Sorry about forgetting that."

"It's fine," she said. "There is something parents need to remember whenever they teach their hatchlings and let them grow up. It's the natural way. Hatchlings will remember what you taught them, don't worry about that."

Flashwing nodded. "I understand. Are my children at your nest?"

"They are," Aquawing nodded. "You can get yours now. They need the rest after long hours."

"Then, let us do it," said Flashwing. He began walking with her toward her nest. Once they arrived there, they noticed Bright and Luna were playing with Aquawing's hatchlings, Bluepaw and Darkspike.

"Dad!" called Bright and ran up on all four to him.

"How's things been, son?" Flashwing chuckled.

"Things great! Bluepaw and Darkspike fun!"

"I'm happy to hear things went well," chuckled Aquawing. "Now, before you four can continue playing, I need to learn my hatchlings to fly."

"Sure," spoke Luna as she came up to them.

"Come along, you two," said Flashwing. "You're going to be taught some things by me tomorrow. For now, you must be tired after the lectures."

Bright nodded. "Me tired, Dad."

"Then, let us go home." Flashwing led his children away from Aquawing's nest and headed home.

End of Part One

Author's Notes: I thought this could be a good place to end the first part of this rewrite. I'd say it is definitely going at a much better pace than the original story. Let me know what you guys think, let me hear your thoughts about the story, what you like and dislike about it so far. I would like to know how I did up to this point.
