CHAPTER 2: GWERDYN'S STORY
Kendra sat back down, confused. "More important than Bracken and the Fairy Realm?"
Eurora glanced at her, holding several pieces of paper and scribbling furiously.
"Of course not. But- something that can help us get them."
After waiting for a few minutes, Kendra began to get impatient.
"How long is this going to take?" Eurora looked at her beseechingly.
"Please Kens, just a few more minutes. I promise it will be worth it."
Kendra smiled. "I'm willing to wait, but the suspense is killing me!"
Eurora laughed. "Okay, I have it now." Kendra glanced at the papers. "Okay Rora, who sent me the message?"
"Queen Gwerdyn," she hesitated, "I don't think your familiar with that name? She's also known as the Light Guardian"
Kendra gasped. "Of course I know her! Who wouldn't?"
"Well- apparently, you're family to her." Kendra raised her eyebrows.
"Wait, I'm related to the Light Guardian? You're kidding, right?"
Eurora grinned. "Nope, no jokes. Queen Gwerdyn is the High Queen of all of the monarchs you know: the Demon King, the Dragon King, the Underking, the Fairy Queen, and the Giant Queen."
Kendra gaped. "Seriously? That's so awesome!" Eurora held out a few papers.
"She basically sent you a history of her life. It would be easier and more accurate if you read them." Kendra glanced at the papers.
"Wow, that's a thick packet. Can you make me a cup of hot cocoa, Rory? You make the best." Laughing, she went down the stairs to the kitchen. And Kendra started reading
In the beginning of the reign of magic, there was a prince named Malderoat.
Malderoat was greatly loved by his kingdom and his family because the magical powers he possessed were very rare those days.
In fact, he was the only known person with magical powers. When he could get breaks from the court, he went and helped the poor with his magic.
As a result, the population of the poor was greatly decreased.
One day, as he was doing this, he saw a gorgeous girl helping up an old man and feeding him food that supposedly came out of 'thin air'.
Later in his life, Malderoat would wish he had never seen that girl. Ever.
The girl caught his eye, and he felt, accurately, that she was 'special' just like him.
Once she went to her house, he followed her, and mustering his courage, knocked on the door minutes later.
The beautiful girl opened the door, eyes widening in recognition. "Prince Malderoat," she acknowledged, curtsying, "to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?"
Malderoat met her eyes. "I know you have a special ability."
She gasped, whirling around. "W-Why- that's impossible! I set up... oh."
He nodded. "I have magic too."
They talked for hours, and during the end of their conversation, Malderoat invited her and her family to the Royal Palace to stay.
She accepted eagerly, not knowing what a fatal decision that would turn out to be.
That day forward, they became fast friends.
Day after day, the two went out on the streets to help people in need.
Gradually, Malderoat realized he liked the girl, who was named Gwerdyn…
"Here you go, dear," Eurora said, bringing up a steaming cup of hot cocoa. "With extra marshmallows and everything. Just the way you like it."
Kendra sipped the top, and smiled leaning back and enjoying it. "Mmm- delicious."
She continued reading:
…in a way more than friendship. In their fifth year of being friends, he asked her to marry him. She firmly refused, telling him that she had already been betrothed.
Furious, Malderoat ordered her family killed as an example to those who dared to defy him.
"Oh wow, this is so sad," Kendra said, tears stinging her eyes.
In her fear, Gwerdyn ran for her life. Her betrothed, Asterion took her in. Just like Malderoat and her, he also had magic, though it was not as powerful as Gwerdyn's.
To comfort her from her grief, he would cup diamonds and make them shine and sparkle, reflecting on the walls.
After a year had passed, they were married secretly and decided they needed to leave the kingdom. "We should leave, Gee," Asterion said, placing his hand over hers.
She nodded, eager to leave the land of her nightmares. "Yes, Asterion, we should leave. Tonight." And so they packed up and left.
Meanwhile, Malderoat had placed a fine bounty on their heads.
"Anyone who brings Gwerdyn," he thundered, "dead or alive will receive a position in my palance and be third-in-command after me! Now go!"
Bounty hunters immediately surrounded the kingdom, swarms of them searching frantically for Gwerdyn. The competition was out of hand.
Outside of Malderoat's kingdom, Gwerdyn and Asterion had begun their journey when they realized it would be best to build their kingdom magically, a dimensional space.
Slowly, over years, they started building their realm, which would be known as Dominia, or the Secret Garden to Gwerdyn. It was completely sealed out of view from humans and magical creatures alike.
In the unfinished realm, she gave birth to her five children: Sylvia, Lucien, Bella, Moonscale, and Beltashard. But then, tragedy struck.
A spy was in their midst.
