The Doctor looked at his watch. It was a prep hour, he looked out of the tower. Harry's flying lesson was currently taking place. He smiled content to watch Harry's progress. At least that was the plan. It was later that he learned that McGonagall actually was going to expel Harry.
That's not how it happened. The Doctor thought to himself. The timeline is messed up. How? He had to fix this. He ran to the transfiguration room where McGonagall was talking to Harry.
"Doctor! Haven't you heard of knocking?!" She asked sternly.
"Minerva before you go through with your plan I need to talk to you." The Doctor said. "It's very important I promise."
"Very well. Potter wait here. We will continue this later." She said.
She stood up and left the room with the Doctor.
"Minerva, don't expel him." The Doctor said.
"He broke so many rules in one fell swoop, just like his father." She said.
"You saw him out there. The ability to break rules wasn't the only thing he inherited from his father. He's the best flyer in your house, and possibly in the school. Instead put him on the Quidditch team. Think about it, with him as the seeker, Gryffindor will have a Quidditch Cup to it's name for the first time in years." He said.
McGonagall began considering the Doctor's argument. The Doctor knew she had a deep respect for the rules but deep down, she was craving a win for her house.
"Fine… I will give him another chance, and allow him to join Quidditch. However you have to set it up." She said.
"Wait, what?" The Doctor asked.
"It's your idea Doctor. Therefore it is your responsibility to make it happen." She said.
"Wait hold on, Like… you mean Coach them? I only have a very basic knowledge of Quidditch." The Doctor replied.
"Then I suggest that you get studying." The Head of House suggested.
The Doctor met her eyes without saying anything for a long while. "Right. Well… first things first. He needs a broom. The school brooms aren't amazing, second… I'll go tell wood. Harry come on." He said leaving the room and beckoning to Harry
Harry followed him out the transfiguration room. The Doctor still didn't know what had changed. What was the difference between the world with him and the world without him? Why had he had to push to make sure that Harry wasn't expelled? What was going on?
It had to have something to do with him. The only real difference between this world and the version he read about was him being here. The Doctor made his way to Quirrell's classroom.
The DADA teacher was currently lecturing his students about mummies and their various dangers. The Doctor knocked on the door making Quirrell jump.
"Professor I'm afraid that I must pull wood out of class for the a moment. You don't mind do you?" The Doctor asked.
"N-no… o-of course n-n-not." Professor Quirrell replied.
Wood stood from his desk and went over to the Doctor. The Fifth year student looked confused.
"Professor, is something wrong?" He asked.
"Oh quite the opposite Oliver." The Doctor said cherrily. He leaned in close to Oliver. "You see." He said more quietly.
"I've found that Mr. Potter here, would make an excellent flier. I'm sure you heard about that seven-year stretch where Gryffindor continuously won the Quidditch Cup. Well Harry's father was on that team." The Doctor explained leaning away from wood and glancing at Harry.
"And he's inherited his father's skill." The Doctor told him.
"Now you've back in you pop." He said. Wood nodded and went back to his class.
"Doctor, how do I play Quidditch?" Harry asked uncertainly.
"Don't worry Harry, you'll learn, it's in your blood, now your next class will be soon. I recommend you get there on time. I can only do so much to prevent you from getting into trouble." The Doctor said.
Harry nodded and rushed off to his next class. Evening came around and the Doctor sat at the staff table. Malfoy went to taunt Harry and the others. The Doctor stared at Harry with a smile on his face.
His distraction did not go unnoticed by Snape who sat next to him. "You seem very interested in Potter's activities." He noted in a neutral tone.
"I think he's completely brilliant." The Doctor said.
"He's no better that any of the students we have. He's undeserving of his fame." Snape hissed.
"Of course he's not any better. But, that doesn't mean he's undeserving. I'd say that his famous for the wrong reason. He's not amazing because he survived Voldemort." The Doctor said.
"He's amazing because he grew up without parents. He grew up abused, hated, and shunned. His only family rejected him left and right. And he survived." The Doctor smiled.
"He came out of it different than most people. Most people at that point would have hardened their hearts. Stayed away from everyone. But him? It just made him kind, empathetic, and caring." The Doctor praised. "Harry's not especially powerful. He doesn't need to be… his kind heart will lead him to greatness."
