Patrick explained his theory he told the angel and the hunter everything. At first nobody said a thing but then Dean broke the silence.
"Bullshit."
Patrick frowns at him."Excuse me?"
"Chuck is not a bad guy. Yeah He is an ass for writing them books but He stopped, He let us get on with our lives after that."
"That's the thing." Patrick replied. "He never stopped, He never stopped creating the stories right now we are living in one of His stories do you want to know what happens I will give you a spoiler you say yes, God brings your brother back and you and Sam are together again back on the road like good old times then something else will come along then another one and another one and another one you both will never be at peace! That is what He wants He wants the Winchesters the heroes fighting the evil day in and day out the normal life? It is all crap a fairy tale! And with yours..." Patrick bites his lip. "There will never be a happily ever after this story of your lives Chuck never wants it to end. I'm sorry to say this Dean but God is using you for entertainment purposes, He is controlling your life that is not right. That is why we can't do this we can't give him what He wants!"
"Cas are you hearing this?" Dean rolls his eyes. "Nice try Patrick but you are not getting away from this you are doing the spell."
"Dean! Argh Castiel."
"Cas?" Dean looks at the angel and waits for the an response. Patrick gave the angel a pleading look. Castiel slowly shakes his head.
"I'm sorry Patrick but I have to disagree. God loves the Winchesters, He loves all His creations He would never do such awful things. Also God gave everyone Free Will everyone here has a choice right now God is giving us a choice."
"That is what He wants you to believe." Patrick then scowls at Castiel's sceptical expression. "I don't know why I am telling you, you are an angel of course you will be up God's ass."
Castiel furrows his eyebrows.
"I have never been up God a..."
"Okay." Dean cuts them off. "Don't give me that imagery."
"Wait." Cas furrowed his eyebrows. "Chuck said that you don't want this to end because you don't want to be alone again?"
"That is a load of cacamas!" The witch glared at the witch.
Castiel frowns.
"God is never wrong."
Dean folds his arms and narrows his eyes.
"That true Pat? Is that how you feel?" Patrick goes to open his mouth but Dean raises his finger and points at him. "Don't try to lie to me I know when you are bluffing after years of card games with you I can see right through that poker face of yours now."
Patrick closes his mouth. He then blows out a sigh and runs a hand down his face.
"I am just looking out for my client. Like I said many times you are a good man."
"And this is also just business blah blah I heard this all before. Patrick, come on man just say it."
Patrick grabs his whiskey and takes a swig from it. He then puts the bottle down.
He clears his throat.
"Losing Lia was tough...very tough I...I swore to myself that I would never get attached to anyone else I thought it would be better to be alone it would be easier...That's a lie. In the early days of Lia's death. I um...would order two drinks from the bar one for me and one for her then I would realize she's...not here to have her favorite cocktail she's not here to sing the songs from the karaoke she's not here by my side she's..." He sighs. " I spent almost every night trying to drown out the noise, the voices in my head, the guilt at that time I did blame myself for her death I thought I pushed her too hard, forced into this life I could have been a better partner it went on and on and on. Eventually I did accept her death she made her choice I respect her choice everyone has their limit, she reached hers but for me I wasn't ready to go just yet and I didn't want to experience those emotions again so I made a pact to myself no more partners, no more friends it will just be me and my cards. "
"Then you and your brother came along. I thought okay end of the world situation here I can't refuse this because like I said back then I am not letting God's sister destroy this world I want to live so I agreed to help for the sake of me and humanity but as the years went on it became more than business to me I enjoyed our sessions, I enjoyed your company after being alone for so long it was nice to finally have someone to talk to. Remember your birthday?" Patrick grinned. "We had a blast. Then I met the angel, the King of Hell and his Mother very strange bunch...No offence Castiel but I have to admit you guys know how to have a laugh even when you don't mean to." Patrick looked at the angel with an amused expression as he said it. "Rowena has hit on me tons of times but hey I don't mind she's harmless and its a bit of fun I do love to whine her up. She's cute when she is mad. Don't tell her I said that though. Anyway..."
He sighs.
"God has a point when this is all over where do I fit in all this? I am just here for storyline purposes what will happen afterwards? Will I be suddenly killed off or just forgotten about? God is right once you are a free man you wouldn't need me anymore and everything will go back to the way it was. I will...I guess I will carry on like normal doing what I always done making money, maintaining my youth and getting pissed and forgetting all this ever happened." Patrick takes another swig and shakes his head. "I should have stuck to my pact I got myself too emotionally involved in this, I crossed the line on our professional boundaries and I apologize..."
"Patrick." Dean gives the witch a small smile. "I consider you as a friend."
Patrick's eyes widen with surprise.
"You are one of us now." Dean nods. "You are part of the strange bunch as you just called it."
Patrick huffs a laugh. Dean raises an eyebrow with surprise as a tear slides down the witch's cheek.
"Are you...are you crying?"
Cas leans forward and studies the witch's face. He then nods.
"Yes he is."
Cas grabs a couple of napkins and gives them to the witch. Patrick thanks him and wipes his tears.
"I'm sorry I'm usually not like this it's just after reading...reliving Lia's death it has brought back memories you know? He had no right...NO RIGHT to write about her death it was a private moment between me and her, He God shared that to the world made our lives a fucking soap opera. That's not on you don't do anything without someone's consent I always ensure I have consent from my clients before we do the game just because he is the Big Man that doesn't mean He can do whatever the Hell he bloody likes. Dean." He clasps his hands on the table. "I am telling you this as not as a business partner but as a...as a friend. You have gained my respect Winchester, how you have been able to carry the Mark for all them years is incredible, you sacrificed everything to keep the world safe I admire you for that. That is also why I need you to think this through you deserve an ending, a good ending to your life but God...Chuck is not the answer if He brings Sam back you will both be stuck in that same vicious cycle its not healthy for you or for Sam or for anyone here its time to take matters into your hands, it is to change the story."
The frown returned to Dean's face.
"I don't have any other choice Patrick. I can't keep living like this I...I just want out."
"But what about Sam?" Patrick raises his eyebrow. "Does he want to be brought back? Has God asked him?"
"Sam will want to come back."
"No you assume he wants to come back you are making the choice for him Sam deserves to make his own choice his opinion matters in this as well. Castiel you can see Sam in Heaven correct?"
"Yes I can."
"Then go and see him you will see for yourself if he wants to come back or not. Dean maybe you should arrange another meeting with Chuck and discuss all options with him including a possible deal if Sam doesn't want to come back lets see if the offer to remove the Mark will be available. After all Castiel you said God gave us Free Will." Patrick smiles. "Well...
..."Lets put that theory to the test."
Castiel entered in Heaven. He walks through the corridors and greets the angels along the way. He finds Hannah by the throne talking to the other angels. Hannah then turns round. She smiles brightly at her brother.
"Castiel." She greeted him warmly.
"Hannah."
He nods and smiles back at her.
"How is it on Earth?" She asks.
"Good, all good."
"What brings you here?"
"Sam." Castiel replied. "I want to see how he is."
Hannah nods.
"Right this way."
Cas followed his sister through various hallways. Suddenly the angels found themselves surrounded by booze and a jukebox blaring out music.
"And that ladies and gentleman is how you do it! "
The angels turn round. Ash stood by the dartboard and gestures to the various darts pinned to the board.
"We'll see about that? "
Jo stands up and removes the darts from the board. She takes several steps back and aims at the board. She then throws the darts one after the other.
She got bullseye on every single one.
"No!" Ash shakes his head. His hair flying in front of his face. "You cheated."
Jo smirks as she removes the darts from the board.
"You can't just accept the fact that you got your ass beaten by a girl."
Ash opens his mouth but no words came out.
"Nice one honey." Ellen smirked as she wrote the scores on the board. "Sam you up for it?"
"Na I'm good."
Castiel eyes follow the sound of the voice. He finds Sam sat at the bar with a pint in his hand. Next to him was his partner Eileen Leahy.
"You are scared of Jo?" Eileen teased him.
Sam shakes his head.
"No! "
Eileen grins.
"Sure."
" Okay anyone got a song they wanna play? " Ellen asked.
"Hey Jude." John smiled to his wife. "Its a family favorite." He gives his son a knowing smile. "Mary sang it to Dean every night and Dean continued to the tradition with Sammy. I loved watching it, I never got bored of it."
The room fell silent at the mention of his name. Sam looks down at his pint. Mary gives her son a worried look.
"Sam?"
"Yeah." Sam looks up and smiles. "Lets play it...For Dean."
"You sure?" Ellen asked with the same concern. Sam nods to her. "Alright then Hey Jude it is."
John stands up and gives his wife a loving grin. He then sticks out his hand.
"May I?"
Mary laughs and shakes her head.
"Sure why not. You have been warned I'm not the best when it comes to dancing if I step on your feet I'm sorry."
John chuckles.
"We can both be terrible dancers together."
Mary takes the offered hand and stands up. The couple walk to the center of the room.
"Oh God this is gonna be embarrassing." Sam sighed.
Then the music started to play. John takes Mary's hand and wraps his other arm around her waist and pulls her in. Mary lies on his chest and let's her husband take the lead. Everyone cheered and clapped as the couple danced around the bar.
"They are not bad." Eileen grinned.
"Yeah." Sam agreed with her. "You're right."
I wish Dean can see this.
Sam leans back in his seat and the frown returns to his face.
"You alright son?"
Sam turns around in his seat.
"I'm fine Bobby." He replied.
Bobby sips his bottle and gives the younger Winchester a 'Yeah right ' look. Sam sighs. He couldn't lie to Bobby the older hunter wasn't stupid he knew something was going on.
"You wanna talk about it?" Bobby asks.
"What's there to talk about." Sam sighs. "Nothing is gonna change."
"Sam." Bobby said softly. "You don't know that."
"There's no cure Bobby. " Sam's voice cracked slightly. "Dean is never gonna be able to see this." He gestures to everyone. "He is never gonna have peace that..that is not fair it is not fucking not fair!"
Sam pinched the bridge of his nose. He already felt the tears filing up in his eyes.
Damm it!
Sam angrily wipes away the tears.
"Sorry."
"Don't be sorry." Bobby leans forward and clasps the younger Winchester's shoulder. "You have nothing to be sorry for you understand?"
Sam looks at him. Bobby clears his throat.
"You and Dean have been through Heaven and Hell and you have both come out in one piece and this...this is no different and you know why? Cuz you boys always find a way, there is always a way. "
"Bobby I know you are trying to make me feel better."
"I'm speaking facts." Bobby said his voice certain. "It may take time but one day there will be a way you just gotta have faith. Promise me you will do that?"
Sam smiles sadly. He appreciated Bobby's optimism but it has been so long now will there really be a way to set Dean free?
"Sam?" Bobby raises an eyebrow.
"I promise."
Bobby didn't look convinced. Deciding to not the press Sam any further Bobby drops the subject and waves for another round of drinks.
Jo comes with a tray of drinks in her hands. She puts the tray down on the counter.
"So Sam..." She folds her arms. "You and Dean have died many times right? Well say there was an offer? A way for you to come back would you go?"
Cas straightened up at that question. Sam furrowed his eyebrows.
"Umm..."
"Also lets say Bobby is right Dean is suddenly cured and he now has the ability to grow old and has his one way ticket to Heaven if you had the chance to relive your life with him would you do it? "
Sam looks at his partner who was busy chatting to Mary. Mary laughs at something Eileen has said while John sipped his drink with amusement sparkling in his eyes. Sam then looks across the room at Ellen scowling at Ash telling him to clean up the floor and saying "Alive or dead you still gotta clean no excuse! " Ash shakes his head and mutters "Don't angels have their own cleaners?" As he grabs a broom and begins sweeping up.
Sam smiles to himself. Jo leans down and gives the former hunter a curious look.
"Well?"
Sam turns back to face her.
"Honestly...that's a hard one. Living my life again..." He runs a hand through his hair. "I get my brother back but I lose loads of lives in the process everyone I know will be dead Eileen, I will outlive my son I wouldn't be able to be a Granddad to my Grandchildren it wouldn't be right if I came back I would have to start over I guess it will be me and Dean back on the road like the good old days but after everything...I don't want that life anymore not because of Dean it is because of the pain and the suffering there will always be another monster round the corner there will always be another apocalyptic event we will never catch a break because of who we are it is the way our life is and that will never change. I will always be grateful that I got to have a family of my own I don't regret any of that and to be honest that was probably my only shot of having a normal life and a normal death I would rather keep it that way. You know what I really want? If Dean did find a way without triggering the apocalypse if Dean was finally free I would want him to be here by my side experiencing this the peace, the harmony if anyone deserves this it's Dean." Sam pats the seat next to him and smiles. "I will be waiting right here for you Dean. "
I will always be waiting for you.
Jo rests her hand on Sam's shoulder. She gives him a comforting smile then turns and walks away.
Bobby raises the bottle to Sam as a salute before taking a sip. Sam picks his own drink up and sips it.
Castiel and Hannah watched the whole conversation while remaining invisible.
"It is very fascinating." Hannah beamed. "Human interaction I am glad we merged all the souls together in one place it is much better than seeing them relive old memories. I sometimes come here just to watch then the atmosphere it is very...positive and that has benefited Heaven greatly it doesn't feel so dull and sad around here now." When her brother didn't respond Hannah frowns and turns towards him. "Castiel?"
"I must go." He nods to his sister. "Thank you Hannah."
The smile quickly returned to her face.
"You are very welcome."
Shortly after Castiel leaves and starts to make his way back to Earth.
Dean lowers his head as Castiel told him everything. The angel eventually stops and sighs heavily.
"We should respect his wishes Dean."
Dean gazes at the sky. He pictured everything Cas told him, the singing, the dancing, the laughter and there was no drama, no hurt, no pain just peace and happiness. Dean's heart ached he knew he couldn't take his little brother away from that. The last time Dean pulled Sam away from Death's Door when he tricked Sam into saying yes to Gadreel all Dean caused was pain and he disrespected Sam's wishes Sam wanted to go and Dean took that choice away from him. Sam stayed for Dean because Dean was selfish back then Dean couldn't bear the thought of living without his brother but now Dean was going to let his little brother's opinion matter and if Sam wanted to stay in Heaven he will stay in Heaven.
"Yes Cas." Dean agreed. "And we will. Sammy deserves to be at peace. "
"What shall we do?" The angel asks.
Dean again looks up at the sky.
"We need to talk to Chuck."
That conversation in the bar was originally going to be Sam and John then I thought Bobby would be a better option as Bobby has been more of a Dad than John has ever been and plus Bobby has been through it all with the boys I just felt he would have more of understanding compared to John.
Oh and cacamas means crap in Irish. Patrick let out some Irish words when I wrote Who is a Wee Cutie Pie! I just imagine him at times going back to the Irish language. Oh and who would have thought Patrick angst would be fun to write? I enjoy writing him I loved writing him in Cutie Pie as well. :D
Next chapter coming soon. :)
