Chapter 1 - Aithne

Aithne: a beautiful Irish name for women, meaning "fire."

"Mmm..." A woman in purple pajamas with scarlet hair as vibrant as the burning red feathers of a Northern Cardinal in the winter began to toss and turn in her sleep. Without opening her eyes, the redhead reached out towards the right side of her queen-size bed and felt nothing as her hands landed on an empty spot. The woman then opened her eyes as she leaned on the bed, looking quite surprised as she realized that her husband was not in the bed with her. "Natsu...?" The woman called out to the darkness and when she didn't hear an answer, the redhead jumped out from the bed and quickly exited the room.

The redhead walked toward the upstairs balcony and looked down to see no one. She quickly walked into the kitchen and was upset when she didn't see anyone. "Where have you gone, Natsu?" As she walked back upstairs, she frowned but her eyes widened slightly as she saw a trickle of light inside the room down the hall from the master bedroom. The redhead raised an eyebrow but slowly walked toward the room and as she slowly opened the door, she saw her beloved salmon-haired husband in his blue and green pajama set sitting in a rocking chair, smiling softly as he held their daughter in his arms. The little girl slept soundly as she held her father's finger and began sucking it, a sight that tugged the redhead's heartstrings. "Natsu..."

The salmon-haired man looked up at the redhead smiling softly at him. "Oh, hey Erza," Natsu whispered. "I didn't notice you there, when did you get there?"

"I just woke up, looking for you when I felt the bed was empty," Erza whispered back as she tilted her head. "How long have you been with Aithne?"

Natsu looked up at the clock and began chuckling, making Erza raise an eyebrow. "I guess it's been four hours already."

"Four hours?!" Erza exclaimed in a hushed whisper. "What happened?!"

"Well, I woke up when I heard Aithne crying so I got up and checked up on her since it was a hungry cry. After I made her a bottle and fed her, I changed her just in case and I've been rocking her to sleep ever since." Natsu flinched slightly as he noticed his wife look away as she pouted. "W-What's wrong, Erza?"

"You could have woken me up, I'm your wife and Aithne's mother, I should be the one on the ready to rush to her side."

Natsu began chuckling as he rocked Aithne, the little girl sucking on her father's thumb as she slept. "But you're also a Guild Master as well as a Wizard Saint who's part of the Magic Council, you do enough for the both of us. If I have to wake up in the middle of the night to make sure our daughter is OK, then I'll do it. That's my job as Aithne's father and as your husband." Natsu flinched slightly as Erza fully frowned and turned away from him. "E-Erza?"

"... I'm just a selfish person..." She admitted as she then held her shoulders. "I don't see how you deal with me, Natsu..."

"Don't you dare start to belittle yourself," It was now Erza's turn to flinch as she turned toward Natsu when he sternly spoke. The man soon placed Aithne in her cradle and then turned toward his wife as he grabbed her hands with his own. "You're right, I'm home more often than you are so I clean, cook and take care of our daughter. I may be with her more but if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have her with me today. So, don't make yourself feel bad because I have to take care of her. I love Aithne and I love you, the beautiful woman I can call my wife and who Aithne calls her mother."

Erza began to blush as Natsu smiled at her but she turned her head away from him, making Natsu raise an eyebrow. "But it's been like this before our daughter was born. When we started to date, you had to pick more jobs to help pay for our house, I would have to make you spend time with me rather than spend time with your friends, you would always have to cook for me, and I didn't do much to help! I would just-!"

Erza was stopped from rambling as Natsu gently but swiftly cupped her cheeks and kissed her, softly but firmly enough for her to get the message. As Natsu pulled away to look at his stunned wife's face, he smiled and gently rubbed her cheek. "And I did all of that because I love you, I didn't make all those sacrifices because you owed me, I did them so you wouldn't need to worry about anything. I wanted you to have life easy because you haven't had that chance in some time, Erza. From the time you spent within the Tower Of Heaven to when we battled against countless foes like Zeref, Acnologia, and even Ignia, you haven't had the chance to just rest and enjoy life. I've wanted that for you ever since I first found out about your history. At first, I just wanted to beat you to prove to you that I could be your equal. I figured out a long time ago that you don't need a rival... What you needed was a listener, a lover, someone willing to give you the care that you willingly give to those you care for." Natsu smiled softly as he gently kissed Erza once more. "Erza, I love you. That means that I'm willing to sacrifice my time, my emotions, and even my own body to make sure that you and our child will live life without harm. I need to make sure that you live a happy life, just as I vowed to you when we went in front of everyone as we got married last year." Natsu smiled his usual bright smile at Erza.

Erza's eyes widened as tears began to well inside her eyes. When Natsu let go of her hands, Erza wiped her eyes as she couldn't help but let some tears fall. How could she find such a wonderful and loving man for a husband? Natsu had changed so much! No... It wasn't Natsu who had changed, the one who had changed was her. Erza had never once that she would not only have a child but for her child's father to care for her so deeply. It was moments like this that had made the redhead fall deeper in love with the salmon-haired man. After she wiped her eyes, she smiled brightly at Natsu. "Natsu... Just what did I ever do to deserve someone like you?"

"You're not only beautiful but you have such a warm, kind, and genuine character so you really didn't have to do anything, Erza." Natsu chuckled as he kissed his wife's cheek. "I just want you to know that you don't have to do anything to deserve my love, you've had my heart ever since you first tutor me." Natsu held Erza's hand as he led her toward their sleeping child. As they both watched the little girl smile and coo as she slept in her light blue pajamas, Erza lowered her hand to rub Aithne's cheek to which the baby smiled and leaned into her mother's hand then grabbed it. Erza smiled and ran her fingers through Aithne's crimson pink-tipped locks. Natsu kissed Erza's shoulder and hugged her from behind. "I know that our kid is gonna be awesome, she's got an amazing mother after all."

Erza turned around and wrapped her arms around Natsu's neck as she kissed him passionately. "You know, we should really give Aithne some siblings so you and her won't get alone when'er I'm gone."

Natsu chuckled as he closed his eyes but when he opened them, Natsu blushed at the enticing glint in his wife's eyes and the smirk she had. "Y-Yeah but don't you have a meeting or something today? I wouldn't want you to miss-." Before he could finish, Erza had energetically slammed her lips on his and as she pulled away, Erza had grabbed Natsu's hands and pulled him into their bedroom.

"Oh, I was going to tell you that I have today off so I was just going to spend it with you and Aithne, but before we tend to our daughter, I think that as your wife I should tend to your needs full. I need to show you fully how much I love you." Erza pushed the bedroom open and pushed Natsu onto the bed, to which the salmon-haired man looked at her with wide eyes and a heavy blush. Natsu knew that once his wife was like this, there would be no telling her no. Not like he wanted to because he truly did miss having his Scarlet Fairy around and he wanted more children just as she did.

Both Natsu and Erza Dragneel consummated their love for each other once another again as their beloved daughter, Aithne Dragneel, slept happily in her craddle. And soon enough, there would be more members of their happy family on their way, something they all wanted.
