Hello!
So 10 years ago I wrote up huge extensive plans for this Fan Fiction involving all the KH and FF7 characters in a circus. I wrote about 12 chapters and gave up. When I was in University for my first year I tried to rewrite this. Got even less far at 7 chapters and gave up.
We are now 5 or so years on. I finished uni, got a masters, went through bucket loads of life lesson and mental health stuff. Got a job, lost a job, got another job and a flat of my own (renting mind you).
Anyway after those five years I finally decide its time to give up the ghost on my old laptop and get a new home computer. As I do I start uploading all my old shit on various drives and files when I come across the full documents laying out the like 100 part plan I had for this story along with various notes on the lore.
So I start to wonder if this old fic I used to get excited writing was still up: and low and behold I find my long since forgotten FF account with the one story still up.
I wanted to get back into writing for a long while, and I dont know what it is about this stupid story involving overly dramatic characters in a strange little circus world I made but, clearly it keeps drawing me back in. Before I knew it I found myself itching to write more about this world again. Give it another stab. So here I am, 10 years on from when I first came up with this bizarre concept, taking another stab at this FF that I cant even imagine is interesting to anyone anymore.
So this is I guess a teaser chapter for the opening one. Also a chance for me to re-learn how the site works and AO3 which I might also pop it on (I've heard it the new place to be for FF, how the world has changed). But hopefully it won't be another 10 years before you here from me.
Roxas was going to get him into trouble today. Ventus could tell from the moment he woke and crossed eyes with the mischievous ones of his brother. He swung down from the bunkbed and hung upside down looking at Ven with a smug smile he always pulled when his mind had constructed some new idea of chaos and adventure. He checked the digital clock on the stained floor of the room. 7.30.
"Roxas, why am I awake?" Ventus sat up on his hands, a thin blanket half covering his ratty pyjamas.
"We're going to the circus!" Roxas half yelled, eyes wide hands raised with a flare of drama that almost sent him off the bed. Served him right, idiot.
"What are you on about? Why would we be going to the Circus?" Ventus figured he knew which one Roxas meant. The Cirque Du Keyblade. A popular travelling circus that had been frequented Midgar for many years now. It had become quite the popular attraction whenever it turned up, and people would clammer for tickets. No one knew when it was coming and the amount of shows they did vary, sometimes only visiting for a couple days. Its unpredictability had come to increase the popularity of the Circus. It was always, therefore, the talk of Midgar when they did show up.
"Well we enjoyed it as kids, I thought it might be nice to go again even though we're technically adults now" He put the last part in air quotes. "Also things have been shit recently, it might be a nice distraction. We also get out of Clouds hair for a while." Roxas nodded downwards, pointing to where Cloud would inevitably be downstairs. Passed out on the sofa. Ventus thought about it a moment, scratching his head as he worked through what his brother meant to do. The chill of morning caused his skin to goosebump and part of him wanted to stay wrapped in his blanket.
"That would be nice Rox but - and I dread to ask - how exactly are we going to watch the Circus? What's the plan? And don't just say-"
"We'll just sneak in!"
"Of course." Ven shook his head as Roxas jumped off the top bunk and onto his bed. Shaking Ventus as he spoke.
"Come on, we both know dad never bothers putting proper guards around that thing. I'm sure there's a way into the woodlands outside of opening hours." Ven feared this would be the answer. Granted they're crafty and have been since they were kids scurrying around their father, and he always did like Roxas ideas for fun. Still the past year the stakes have been different than before.
"It's risky Roxas, we'll have to be there and gone before the actual performance anyway. It's closing night, that's when all those lot go." Vens tilted his head at 'those lot', booth twins knowing whom he meant. But when Roxas just looked back at him, smirk still in place, Ven knew there was no getting out of whatever his plan was.
"It's fine Ven, I thought of that. Maybe instead of going to watch the show, we sneak in this morning. We can watch he rehearsals instead. Might not be as good as the show, but, it would still be good. Give us something to do." Whilst somewhat better, Ventus still didn't like the idea all too much, but it was, as his brother said, something to do. Finding something to do was a big part of the twins day recently. Unlike their brother, they had not adapted as quickly to their new life in hiding. 18 was suppose to be a time of potential, of growing and independence. For the boys though it had become a time of missed opportunities and increasing isolation.
"Fine, why not." Ven sighed. "Gives us something to do." Roxas jumped off the bed and went to the pile of clean, he thinks, clothes on the floor. Grabbing some and heading to the bathroom across the hall. Roxas always got Ventus in trouble, but at least it was fun.
