Chapter 5: Awakening

Tori's slumber was interrupted by the voices of housekeepers and the authoritative tone of the officers as they entered her dimly lit hotel room.

"Police! Is anyone in here?" one of the officers announced, knocking on the door.

Tori stirred, her eyes flickering open, adjusting to the sudden rush of light. She found herself lying in a disheveled and soiled bed, surrounded by her own filth. Dhe hadn't stirred for the entire three days she was asleep.

"Ma'am, are you okay?" a concerned housekeeper inquired, her eyes filled with worry.

Tori groaned softly, struggling to comprehend her surroundings and the voices that surrounded her. "Huh? What's going on?"

"We got a call for a well check. Your family's worried about you. Can you sit up, ma'am?" another officer gently asked.

With a visible effort, Tori managed to pull herself into a sitting position. She blinked blearily, still not fully awake, as the officers continued to assess her condition.

"Ma'am, are you feeling okay? We were concerned when we didn't hear from you," the first officer expressed their worry.

"I'm... I'm okay," Tori replied, her voice hoarse and barely above a whisper. "I've been on a long road trip, and I guess I just needed some rest."

The housekeepers exchanged glances, observing the fatigue etched on Tori's face. They couldn't help but feel a sense of compassion for the young woman before them.

"We noticed the bed, ma'am. Are you sure you're all right?" the second housekeeper inquired, concern etched on her features.

Tori's cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Yeah, I'm... I'm just really tired. I'm sorry about the mess."

The officers shared a quick, silent exchange, their expressions a blend of concern and subtle relief. They were ready to offer assistance if necessary.

"We understand. Please take care of yourself, ma'am. If you need anything, don't hesitate to reach out," the gentle officer offered before they left the room.

Alone in her hotel room once more, Tori reached for her phone, the device that had triggered this well check.

Dad(text): Okay Kid! Just checking in We were getting a little worried.

Trina (text): Sis, it's been a few days. Is everything all right?

Mom (text): Tori, please let us know you're okay. We're starting to get really concerned.

Shelbs (text): Tori, you're scaring us. Please respond.

Cat (text): We love you, Tori. Just tell us you're safe.

Shelbs (text): Okay, seriously, this isn't funny anymore. Are you okay?

Trina (text): We're calling the police for a well check. This isn't like you.

Mom (text): Tori, please answer. We're worried sick.

Cat (text): We hope you're all right.

Shelbs (text): If you're mad at us, just tell us. We can't take this silence.

Mom (text): We've been waiting for your call. We're concerned, Tori. Please, let us know if you're safe.

Dad (text): We're sending the police over to check on you. This has gone on long enough.

Shelbs (text): This isn't funny, Tori. We're scared for you.

Mom (text): Tori, please, just let us know you're all right. We love you.

Police Officer (text): Ma'am, this is Officer Smith. We received a well-check request from your family. Can you confirm your safety and well-being?

As she scrolled through a multitude of messages from her family, the weight of her recent experiences began to settle in, reminding her that sometimes, the road to self-discovery could be overwhelming.

Tori let out a tired sigh and reached for her phone. She sent a reassuring text to Shelby first because she was her ride-or-die.

Tori: "Hey sis, just woke up from a long nap. I'm totally fine, just needed some rest. Don't worry, love you! ?"

Shelbs: "Phew! You really scared us there, Tori. Glad you're okay. Love you lots! ?"

Tori: "I know, I'm sorry, Shelbs. I'll fill you in on everything soon. Love you too!"

Shelbs: "Looking forward to hearing your stories. Take care, Tori. ?"

Tori: "Will do! Talk to you soon! ?"

Tori then switched over to Trina's Message. She knew her big sister was going to be a little more upset. She took her role as caretaker a lot more seriously.

Tori: "Sorry for making you all worry, Trina. I'm safe and sound, just needed a good sleep. Can't wait to catch up with you soon. Love you! ?"

Trint: "Tori, this isn't funny. You had us all worried sick. What's going on?"

Tori: "I'm really sorry, Trina. I didn't mean to worry you all. It's just been... a lot."

Trina: "A lot of what? You can't just disappear like that!"

Tori: "I know, and I'm not proud of it. I'll explain, I promise. I just needed some time alone."

Trina: "Time alone? For three days? Seriously, Tori, talk to us. We're your family."

Tori: "I will, Trina. Let's chat tomorrow, okay? Love you."

Trina: "Yeah, tomorrow. We need to know what's going on. Love you too."

With her sisters reassured Tori knew she had one more call to make. She dialed her parents' number, and both of them answered her mother's phone "Hey, Mom, Dad. I'm so sorry for not keeping you updated. I didn't mean to worry you."

"Tori, honey, are you okay?" Her mother asked desperately, aware of her daughter's sporadic flights of fancy. "We were scared something had happened to you."

"Yeah, we were really concerned." Her father asked, "Where have you been?"

"I'm fine, really. I just needed some time alone to think and clear my head." Tori stated, "I moved to California for a fresh start."

"Moved to California? Why didn't you tell us?" her mother stated panicked

"I didn't want to bother you. I wanted to do this on my own, but I'm here now, and I'll be keeping you all in the loop. I promise."

"Tori, you know, as a police officer, I have connections." Her dad stated. "If you ever need help or feel unsafe, you can count on us."

"I know, Dad. I'm sorry, and I love you both."

"We love you too, Tori. Just take care of yourself, okay?" Her mom chimed in.

"I will, Mom. Thanks for understanding."

Tori's voice held a mix of relief and gratitude as her parents reassured her. She was grateful to have a family who cared for her well-being, She was happy that she had been wrong about the fact that they cared. The truth was that she just didn't want them to stop her from doing this.

As for Cat, she chose not to say anything to her yet. She was still nursing her anger over the club incident.

After making those calls, Tori found her way to the shower, The hot water cascaded over Tori's body, its soothing embrace easing the tension that had built up during her arduous road trip. As steam swirled around her, she couldn't help but reflect on the past few days. The shower was her sanctuary, a place where she could gather her thoughts and cleanse her weary soul.

Meanwhile, the hotel staff arrived at her door, and with a sense of gratitude, Tori greeted them. She couldn't help but feel a pang of embarrassment at the state of her bed. The sheets were soaked with sweat and even a bit of pee due to her unending slumber.

Tori was apologetic as she explained the situation to the housekeeping staff, who seemed understanding and professional. She knew she had inconvenienced them, but her overwhelming exhaustion had left her in no condition to manage her room's cleanliness.

In the warm embrace of the shower and the reassuring presence of the hotel staff, Tori began to feel the weight of her exhaustion lift. She was ready to face the next phase of her journey in California, her enthusiasm rekindled by the support of those around her.

Tori stood in her refreshed hotel room, her damp hair neatly combed. She held her phone in her hand, ready to address her fans. The device buzzed with notifications, signaling the anticipation that had built up among her followers.

As she went live on Instagram, the comments section lit up with hearts and messages from fans who had been worried about her. She smiled warmly at the screen, appreciating the genuine concern her fans showed.

"Hey, everyone!" Tori began, her voice filled with enthusiasm. "I just wanted to hop on here and let you all know what's been going on."

She explained her recent road trip and the decision to move to California, emphasizing the excitement she felt about this new chapter in her life. Tori's eyes sparkled with anticipation as she spoke about the creative journey she was embarking on.

"I promise, I'll be back to making content as soon as I'm settled in," she assured her fans. "I've got so many ideas and can't wait to share them with all of you."

Her fans showered her with heart emojis and encouraging comments. Tori felt a renewed sense of purpose, and the connection with her audience gave her the motivation she needed to face the challenges and adventures that lay ahead.

As the Instagram Live session drew to a close, Tori's sense of exhaustion deepened. She slowly rose from her seat, her legs feeling unsteady, and for a brief moment, the world around her threatened to spin into darkness. She reached out to grasp a nearby chair to steady herself, her body feeling drained from the emotional rollercoaster she'd been on.

Amidst this weariness, a nagging thought broke through her mental fog – she hadn't eaten in days. It was as if her body, consumed by the turmoil of the past few days, had forgotten the basic need for sustenance. Tori couldn't help but scold herself for neglecting her own well-being.

"You've got to take care of yourself, Tori," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "This isn't how you should be treating your body."

She was well aware that her health, including those troubling manic episodes, worsened when she neglected self-care. With a shaky hand, she reached for her phone and dialed the number for room service.

"I can't let myself fall apart," she thought, her determination returning. "It's time to eat."

Despite her self-admonishments, Tori knew that nourishing her body was a crucial step towards regaining her strength and stability, especially in the midst of these trying times.

After placing the order for room service, Tori decided to treat herself to a substantial meal. The pangs of hunger that had been masked by her emotional turmoil now came to the forefront, and she indulged herself. Plate after plate of food arrived at her door, and she savored every bite.

However, as she sat amidst the remnants of her feast, a wave of guilt washed over her. She couldn't help but feel that she'd overindulged, seeking comfort in the food she'd consumed. It was a momentary lapse in her self-discipline, brought on by the emotional exhaustion she had been grappling with.

Tori realized that her anxieties and uncertainties had driven her to this impulsive act. Her intention to explore her new surroundings was now curtailed, at least until the evening when she hoped her bloated stomach would have settled.

"I can't keep doing this," Tori mumbled to herself, fully aware that indulging in excessive eating was a poor coping mechanism. She longed to regain control, not only over her eating habits but over her life as well.

With determination, she decided to spend the rest of the day resting and reflecting, with the hope that by evening, she would be ready to venture out and explore her new environment. It was a small step towards taking charge of her life once again.
