FACE CLAIMS
QUEEN ELLEN SCHREAVE- ANNA GUNN
GREGORY BRANDON- DACRE MONTGOMERY
Schreave Palace. Sacramento, Kingdom of Illèa. 1 month after Sybil Schreave's abdication.
Queen Ellen Schreave sat in her office, downing her 3rd shot of gin as she waited for him to arrive. It had been a whole month and the press was still ripping on her after her duke daughter had renounced her claim to the throne. She had been able to control the narrative until that bitch Claude-Marie Vance had sold her story to the press. Of course, she had exaggerated every detail to make the queen sound worse than she'd been. Ellen cursed herself for not having the bitch executed when she had confessed her true purpose to Sybil.
Ellen had tried to do charitable works, pass several fluff laws against child abuse and domestic violence, but it was too late; the people had lost all faith in her and 88% of Illèans were calling for her to follow her daughter's lead and abdicate.
It was sheer luck that Ellen had found an heir, so that the Schreave dynasty could continue. Her late sister had given birth to a son long ago: Gregory Brandon. He was a straight cis gender man and better yet, he had graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. He was the perfect candidate to become the crown prince of Illèa. Now, Queen Ellen just had to convince him to accept his new position.
Later that day.
Gregory Brandon slowly got out of the limo that had driven him into the palace courtyard. Despite being the Queen's nephew, he had never actually been to the royal palace in his life. His mom and his aunt had endured a falling out after she became Queen. According to his mom, Ellen had become a completely different person after she had won her selection and acted like she was above everyone else in the world; even her own family. Greg had never even met her until she sent her jerk of a prime minister to summon him to the capital.
When he was shown into her office, he saw the once beautiful and powerful queen looking haggard and ugly. Clearly, the pressures of the crown had taken their toll on the woman.
"Thank you for coming." She said as Greg bowed his head before sitting down.
"I only came because I give a damn about my country; it doesn't mean I care about you." He replied coldly. Ellen's eyes turned icy as she calmed herself.
"Well...your country needs you. With Sybil having abdicated the throne to run off with that singing whore from Paloma, who will succeed me as sovereign is an open question that must be closed sooner rather than later." The Queen of Illèa explained.
"And since I am your last surviving relative, you need me to be your heir." Greg finished as he took a deep breath.
"I am too old to get married and have another child. If you don't accept your claim to the throne; the dynasty will end and the monarchy will most likely be abolished." Queen Ellen growled.
"Has there been rumblings from the Queen's Congress?" Greg asked intently.
"The Illèan Conservative Party got bitch slapped in the last round of primaries. Right now, 17 of the seats are occupied by a liberal or a socialist. The conservatives are barely holding onto the majority." She admitted.
"And Miss Vance's expose is convincing politicians from all sides to call for your abdication. That's why you need me, to buy you time." He shot back as his aunt took another shot of gin.
"Gregory...please, Illèa needs you desperately, the dynasty needs you." Ellen pleaded as Greg felt the weight of the situation hanging over him. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if he was the reason that the monarchy ended. Greg knew that he didn't have a choice.
"I'll be the crown prince...not for you, but for Illèa." Greg replied as he knew that he had to fulfill his duty to his nation; no matter that personal costs.
